Sadly, the Columbus, OH suburbian areas seem to have slim pickings when it comes to sushi. This was one of the better rated sushi restaurants in the area, so we gave it a try. It was mediocre at best. I've definitely had worse, but I wouldn't have wanted to come back.. service was great and quick though! The fish just wasn't very fresh. We got the sashimi regular platter, rainbow roll, naruto roll, and some sort of specialty roll. Like I said, all were pretty mediocre. The seaweed salad was a smaller portion too. The mackerel sashimi was overly fishy- maybe that's just how mackerel usually tastes, but we did not like it at all. We also had gotten the tartar layer appetizer, which was nicely presented but not amazing in taste. It was spicy but we could've enjoyed the meal without it. Overall, a mediocre sushi experience. I do trust that it's probably one of the better spots in this area though if you're really craving some sushi! They seemed to have some great specials too. read more

I do like sushi and bento boxes, but for some reason I always assumed Fugu wouldn't be anything worth checking out, as it's in the suburbs; why go run-of-the-mill, when I could drive 10-15 minutes farther and get good sushi closer to downtown. Housed in a strip plaza, it's nothing much on the outside, but the inside is well designed. Nothing fancy-fancy, but nice accent decor and plenty of seating (both booths and tables), as well as bar seating; a nice set up. Our waitress was great - polite, a good sense of humor, answered are questions and helped us narrow down the choices. I got their Shrimp Shumai and Alaska Roll. The steamed shumai were good. The dipping sauce seemed to have an almost fruity-ish flavor? Great accompaniment. The Alaskan Roll was quite small/skinny, but had a decent flavor. Would I get it again? Probably not, I'd go for something that had more components in the roll. I did try a piece of their Mango Roll as it was great. Fresh mango wrapped around the shrimp-centered protein; I'd definitely go for that in the future. read more

Fugu is the go to spot for sushi and Japanese fare in the area. The Gyoza is always a hit and their miso and salad are sure to please. The sushi options are great and the portions are generous. My favorite are the tempura vegetable rolls, they're always consistent and fresh. The service is friendly and patient. the entire restaurant is clean and brightly lit. For a place that deals largely in raw fish, you'd never know. Everyone is courteous and welcoming. read more

We visited on this past Saturday for lunch. The Avocado Boat with tuna was good and flavorful. I had Chicken Pad Thai which was very spicy but was amazingly good. They put the peanuts on the plate in a small bunch so I opted not to add them to the dish. The side salad was good and had a good amount of dressing on it. My boyfriend had a roll. First time trying FuGu. Didn't wait too long to be seated on a sunday for lunch. Overall ambiance was We ordered the Alligator roll, yellowtail sushi, eel sushi and salmon sushi. We also got the Ika Karage (deep fried squid) and the kani salad (Imitation crab salad). The Kani salad wasn't horrible but a little salty. Fugu is such a great sushi spot! There aren't very many good sushi places in Columbus in my opinion, so finding Fugu was a treat! The appetizers were almost as good as the sushi! I got the chicken karage and tofu tempura, they were both super hot and fresh. I highly recommend the chicken karage. As for the sushi, I ordered the Rainbow Roll and Godzilla. I felt like the Godzilla roll had too much rice. The rainbow roll was great and the portion size is pretty good for what you're paying for. It's generally average pricing for sushi. If your looking for a little low key spot to sneak into this could be for you. I usually sneak in late its never really over crowed. There sushi is pretty good. I love ther signature fugu sushi rolls. I enjoy there soups as well. My guest are usallly always pleased with there sushi. The staff is on top and you never really have a wait. Not sure if they were having a bad night but we've been coming here for years and have had great meals but last night prompted me to write a review so hopefully the owner sees this. We ordered the Spicy King crab roll and General Tso Chicken and were disappointed in the entire meal and service. First the chicken was so overcooked it was like jerky and the roll on several bites seem to have maybe some outer shell bits that shouldn't be there if that makes sense. Then the server brought the salad out with the meal when it should have been brought out sooner. Server also never took anything off the table that was finished, ie., empty salad bowl, empty beer bottle. I could eat 50 Ginza rolls & it's super cheap. I haven't had any sushi I haven't liked from here. Some other favorites : harumaki & ebi Sumai. Please try the harumaki! It's basically a Japanese egg roll but the wrap is light and crisp and the filling is soooo juicy!!!! Don't think about sharing an order. Too good. My mother and I discovered Fugu about a year ago and have been coming back ever since! We were so tired of the chain restaurants in Pickerington and decided to give it a try. We were elated that we found a cozy restaurant that was close to home. Their sushi has never made me ill, is very reasonably priced and is always been delicious! A few of my favorite sushi rolls include the Philly, California and Ocean Rolls! As I started to visit more frequently, I discovered their mildly spicy Kani Salad and comforting House Soup! I also recommend trying a cup of tea with your meal to make for a relaxed dining experience. The only drawbacks are that the dining areas are not that big so it tends to fill up very fast; especially close to dinner time. This can cause the staff to be rushing around at a quick pace and it can be difficult to catch their attention for more water, silverware or the check. Overall, a great little place to satisfy your sushi cravings! This is now my mother and I's go-to place to treat ourselves! read more
