Just the ube malasada alone is worth 5/5, it's amazing: sweet but not too heavy, texture has a thin layer of crispness with a spongey and soft center. I could eat it every day! I also bought a strawberry cake that was a HIT at a birthday dinner. So much whip cream but very light. Tasted very nostalgic of desserts in asia. For only $35 for a 6 inch, it's a great deal considering cakes run for $50 elsewhere. The location is ok, definitely should drive since it's a little off a major road but there is lots of street parking. Will happily continue stopping by! read more

FINALLY tried Fuji Bakery after driving by and saying "I need to stop there some time" maybe 100 times. Their cases seemed pretty well stocked, and they were replenishing as people bought items, at about 11:30 on a Saturday. I didn't see any unique croissants out though, so maybe those were sold-out for the day. Tried 3 filled donuts: Liliokoi is custard base (passionfruit). I really liked it, not too sweet and a nice tropical taste. The crispy donut had a plain custard base, but quite good and the sugary donut exterior had some crisply cornflakes which added to the fun. Both felt "heavy" which showed were quite full of the custards, which is great! The last donut I tried was the Azuki, which I knew would be bean paste sweetened, but it didn't specify whether it was in a custard. It was not, it was just the paste. They had Ube as well, which I see by pic IS mixed into a custard, so that was a bit confusing to me that the Azuki/Adzuki was not mixed into a creamy custard. I wasn't expecting they had savory offerings and was too stunned to make a decision on the spot, but next time I'm going for it with full intent, and maybe placing an order in advance online before heading in to be sure I get the things I want. Parking lot is very small, but I went a block down and parked in Taco Time's lot which is very large...not recommending in terms of towing being a possibility, but it seemed like our visit would be maybe 15 mins in and out, and hey, donuts were on the line, so I took the risk. read more

Finally! Every time we were in the neighborhood this Fuji bakery was closed. But we drove by yesterday and saw that was opened. So we took a u turn to see what they offered. We ended up with trying their pecan mini pie, Russian tea walnut cookies and wow these were yum. So very delicate and tasty. We also purchased one of their large custard filled cream puffs. This will be today's dessert. My husband loves and ate the pecan pie last night ... he said it was okay...nothing real noteworthy about it. These three items cost $17.00 & change. There is a small parking lot right next to the bakery where customers can park while shopping in the bakery. Wow, Fuji's matcha cruffin rocked my world. The kind of delicious that makes you close your eyes and forget what's around you for a few moments while you savor the flavor. My partner enjoyed the dairy free beef curry pan-- I stole a bite and can confirm it was delish too. The chicken sando was decent and also dairy free. Good olive stick bread as well. The hojicha latte was a little too sweet for my taste (maybe due to the oat milk sub). I'd definitely return more, like the milk stick that my friend raved about. read more

It's difficult to dislike this place, since, from one angle, there really isn't any *specific* item that they're famous for; but from the other angle, they have a vast selection of sweet versus savory items, this establishment always feels like they have something for everyone. 1) VARIETY/SELECTION: 10/10. The one hugely amazing thing about Fuji bakery is that the selection is vast, and seemingly endless. From savoury to sweet pastries and other baked goods, this place offers an extremely wide variety of pastries, macarons, baked goods, and even cakes! Generally speaking though, Fuji's availability of said selection does begin to dwindle towards the tail end of a day, so if you want the most expansive selection, you should probably go around the lunch hour, or earlier, so you can get all of the things you're looking for! 2) FRESHNESS: 9.5/10. One of the photos I posted was of (in my opinion) the legendary Crisp roll ($3.25) - my favourite pastry here - it tastes like a cocktail (coconut) bun from back home - got this twice so far, and I'm willing to bet this is the non-drug equivalent of an addictive pastry, as I've literally dreamt about eating this roll on numerous occasions. My recommendations for this place: - Savory: curry roll, salmon brioche - Sweet: custard roll, crisp roll, Azami donut Definitely worth the "starter set" if you get these five to start (bring someone or a group! These are incredibly filling!) 3) VALUE FOR MONEY: 8/10. The only pitfall of this place is that due to their popularity and generally high quality, you're not going to get the same kind of pricing that you'd expect from an Asian bakery back in the homeland (Toronto, namely). Going back to the Crisp Roll example ($3.25), I would usually expect this to be around $2-$2.50, max; the "extra" cost is likely the "luxury tax" we pay for living in a HCOL (High Cost-Of-Living) city like Seattle. With that being said, the prices are still relatively fair, despite being much higher than this bakery's contemporaries. 4) SERVICE: 9/10. Decent service - the people working here are friendly and give generally helpful suggestions, but I will note that they don't tend to pick up on your preferences based on what else you order, even if you're a regular customer. I usually chalk it up to the front office folks not being responsible for the baking, but the "help wanted" sign in the doorway should be more than enough to tell you that this place definitely could improve in that category. 5) CONSISTENCY / FIRST IMPRESSION: 9.5/10. I've been here only twice, but both times were consistently good. It's hard to argue about anything negative, except for the lack of selection on my first visit, which was remedied by me showing up at 930am instead of 2pm. Verdict? Have been to a couple different locations but the neko macaroon is ONLY available at the Elliot location daily. I absolutely love the pear crossaint and get it everytime. The puff pastry they use is super flakey and buttery - yum! And neko macaroon honestly scared me, as it is the largest macaroon I've ever seen! It really is as big as your hand! Ok the way to do this is to ORDER ONLINE! We went in person on a Saturday and half the things we wanted were sold out. So after getting only 2 things, we went home and scheduled a pickup order. Since the store had closed already, a pickup order meant next day order which was perfect we got everything we wanted and it was still super fresh. Chocolate croissant = amazing and classic, wasn't solid out Banana Nutella croissant = my favorite, super tasty but it is typically solid out so I got to try it when we ordered online Lilikoi (Passion Fruit) Malasada = my second favorite, it was amazing! It sold out right after we got one on Saturday Blackberry Bar = pretty good, was sold out on Saturday so it must be popular Custard bread = the only meh thing we got. Wouldn't get this again. The parking situation at this location is terrible!! Nothing they can do about it but just a heads up. If you can park on the street or get there some other way, do that but I would not recommend the parking lot. read more

I've gotten pastries here several times so it's by time I review this place! I love the wide selection of pastries and baked goods. Everything I've tried so far were really good (crunchy malasada, ube malasada, lilikoi malasada, egg salad sandwich, and other pastries I can't remember the names of). What's convenient during COVID is that you can order online, and they'll deliver your order to you in the parking lot. Cons: I walked into the bakery once, and for the first minute or two, none of the two employees I saw acknowledged me. They also package your food/purchase with too much packaging. read more

My boys were craving Hawaiian malasadas, and Fuji Bakery came up in my Yelp search. I can tell you those were one of the best I ever had. Not only was the outer shell super crunchy, but also the dough was airy and filling has just the right amount of sweetness. Now there's just no going back. :)) Fuji Bakery is a small building, though its vivid pink facade might grab your attention as you go down Interbay. It's neat and serviceable, and there's plenty delicious pastries to choose from. I've tried cinnamon sticks or some variant before, but last time I went I got the curry pan (which can carry a 5* rating on its own), ube malasada (good dough, meh filling), canele (not my favorite), pear brioche (superb) and strawberry shortcake (light & yummy). There wasn't any seating inside so I just picked up an assortment of different malasadas and beef curry ball to try. Wonderful local chain. I love the shokopan style bread and their availability in grocery stores that drives up the overall quality of baked goods that are offered in the grocery chains here. In terms of the pastries on-site - they're great. The best in the city? Pretty high standards on that end, but these are definitely impressive nonetheless. The cream puff is good, the layered tiramisu style cake I found more satisfying. The thick-cut breads, however, hold up fantastically for light buttering and grilling on a pan- better than some other artisanal shokupans I've encountered. read more

It is all about balance. As a group we ordered several items. Everything was wonderful as it had just been freshly made that day. The s'mores croissant that I had was extremely puffy and flaky on the outside. I love that. The s'mores content however, I had hoped for a stronger chocolate and marshmallow combination. I purchased some pre-boxed macaroons. They were of the spring and or Easter theme. I got them for my three little nephews. They absolutely loved them and gobbled them right up. My mother had a pastry with an apple filling. She said that was really good. I figured it must have been since she didn't want to share. When we first arrived at the bakery there was no line. I thought maybe they were out of baked goods for the day. I was wrong. As we were wrapping up our order, all of a sudden I turned around to find a huge line of people behind me. Just a fair warning for those who come here to enjoy their treat, there is no bathroom. Parking is available both on the street and in the small tiny adjacent lot just to the side of the building. As of early April, you were still required to wear a mask inside when you order. Again, it is all about balance. All of the flavors and everything that we ordered was well balanced. Nothing was overpowering. Nothing had an extremely strong taste. This is definitely worth a try. read more

I have passed Fuji Bakery countless times on my way to something in the odd neighborhood called Interurban. Before moving to Seattle, Interbay appeared to be an industrial, commercial wasteland, providing very little for the residents of Seattle. Yet, once moved into Seattle, I discovered Interbay has almost everything anyone would want for an urban lifestyle. Shops, Bars, restaurants, recreational activities, parks, water, etc. are all within the confines of Interbay. Sure, it's ugly, not salubrious at all, and with poor access to Queen Anne and other neighborhoods. Yet, like those people who have an ugly attractiveness about them, Interbay is kind of cool. Fuji Bakery has that same ugly attraction. The garish red sign beckons with a magnetic seediness, very un Japanese. Fuji calls itself a Japanese bakery. It's different for sure, but the delicacy of Japan is certainly missing from many of their baked goods. We tried an assortment of stuff. The curry meat rolls were odd, but very hearty. Touted Crunchy Cream tasted like a greasy donut, not my favorite. There was no light touch to the bacon bread sticks, crunchy but heavier than a Sumo wrestler. The cakes were good though. If you're bored with the typical bakery and the typical bakery fare, Fuji is an excellent alternative. But be prepared, Fuji is the Jean-Paul Belmondo/Pete Davidson of Seattle bakeries. Fuji is to Interubay as NYC is to Seinfeld. read more

Am I obsessed if I say that I've tried a bit of nearly everything on their menu? Here are some of the highlights - - Malasada with crunch and custard. Get this - you can't go wrong! Pretty much all of their malasadas are amazing! - Cream cheese danish - this is quite different from more danishes I've had, but it's just as enjoyable - Milk bread - perfect to bring home to make your lunch the next day Only negative about this spot is the parking situation during peak hours (read: mornings on the weekend). There's often a line of people and their lot is super small and kind of hard to navigate, especially as Elliot Ave is so busy. Most people park on the street which is fine. Also wish that they had some real seating. There are a few tables outside, but I wouldn't plan on sitting there since the street is so noisy! read more

I had the matcha and ube malasada's and the mini donuts. The service there was really bad. The girl that helped us was rude and impatient. Her tone of voice and demeanor turned us off. Just look at the photos and you'll see why I love this place! Delicious, beautiful pastries at good prices. Everything we ate was marvelous. If I didn't have a wheat and dairy sensitivity, I'd eat here every week and just exercise like mad to work it off. My favorite is the Sugar Dusted Brioche. Wow. Like eating a beautiful donut that's baked, not fried. Also the popeye pastry with spinach and cheese is evil genius. So good.
