I really liked this place. 4 stars as the service was a bit slow (yet super kind!) but overall the food was amazing and i liked the ambience as well. We easily made a reservation for a group of 5 the day before coming. The place is way bigger than i thought, with several upstairs floors. They were having a holiday party upstairs so definitely a place to consider if you're looking for a spot for a big group! We started with appetizers - popcorn shrimp, edamame, and beef gyoza, and a bottle of wine. I loved the gyoza. We each then got two rolls - one special and one normal. My daughter took me here for birthday lunch with my granddaughter and everything was lovely. Her lunch she shared with her daughter was the generous sushi tempura bento box lunch special. I had the grilled hamachi collar (hamachi kama.) My instructions of how I wanted it cooked were followed perfectedly. The large and tasty avocado salad came with the carrot-ginger dressing I love. Hands down, a life changing experience for me. Now I'm not the type whose all about the hype, but this place surely exceeded all my expectations. Granted, the place is way overpriced - I seized the opportunity to visit the place during restaurant week. We decided on the 5 course meal that they were offering, and I was so pleased with everything. Started our meal off with a couple salads, we got a seaweed salad and a salmon salad. Both complimented each other very well, super fresh and flavorful. Then, the soups. Personally for me, I thoroughly enjoy piping hot soups and mine was perfect. I'm not a huge fan of mushrooms so believe me when I say that to my surprise, I absolutely loved the mushroom soup. It's a great balance of light and bursting with flavor, I'm not sure what they put in it, but it is definitely addicting. Their seafood soup comes with scallop, shrimp, and mussels. I've never seen a start soup so exquisite, definitely impressed. Onto our next course, we settled with the Ika Ika appetizer and the Dynamite mussels. Both great choices - and SPICYYYY (if you like that kinda thing). Now onto my favorite part of the meal, I ordered the Wild Mushroom Sea Bass (again I don't like mushroom, but I do like Sea Bass) and it was by far the best Sea bass I have ever had in my whole life. I've had a lot from all over, I'm very used to the fish being on the dryer side and less flavorful. This one was so MOIST and you can tell the fish was wonderfully marinated. It wasn't smothered in sauce, but you can tell it was cooked thoroughly with the sauce and that's what I really loved. Vegetables came out perfect texture, perfectly cooked. Even came with a small potato in katsu form, I've never seen such a thing but wow I could eat a hundred of them because it was so delicious, I've got to search the recipe somehow. Dessert - we got the green tea ice cream and red bean ice cream and it was divine. Typically, I'm a bit more skeptical on restaurant ice creams because it's usually iced up with icicles or you can taste that it's been in the freezer for too long. This ice cream was so creamy and was as if it came straight from the ice cream parlor, it was magical. Again, this place exceeded all my expectations and I was certainly sad when it came to the end of my meal. Will definitely come back to visit soon! read more

Fuji Mountain is almost everything you'd want in a sushi spot. I guess it's been years since my last visit but I swore they had been BYOB?? In any event, my friend and I ended up there based on Yelp reviews and our first pick restaurant being over crowded. Sadly, we couldn't utilize our bottle of red, but we were greeted and seated promptly. I ended up with a glass of Shiraz. A little pricy at $9, but I suppose it was a decent pour. Ordering was easy since we knew we wanted the sushi entree for two. It didn't include the specifics of what we'd get; we just requested no eel and they obliged. It may have been difficult if you are picky, but it was easy for us. We also both got to pick from miso soup or salad with our meals. It wasn't crowded so all food came out promptly. I only wish our sever told us what was on the plate. Being that we eat everything, it was fine- it could've been nice to know though. Everything was fresh and delicious, so that's all that mattered to me in the end. We were enjoying a leisurely meal so I opted for desserts. I had to get something with banana so I got the banana tempura and vanilla ice cream. My friend got the cheese ice cream. It sounds odd, but it was just extra rich and creamy. Both desserts paired nicely together. The service was prompt and attentive. The seating area was spacious with a nice mix of booths and tables; we didn't feel on top of other guests. Went to Fugitive for my birthday and I had a great experience. Because it was a Thursday night, the place was pretty empty so the waitress let us play our own music over the speakers. Some of us ordered sushi and others ordered other items from the menu. I've gotten sushi here before so I knew what to expect. One of the better places to get sushi in the city. Their rolls are reasonably priced and the fancier rolls are around $15.00. They are really fresh and tasted great. The service was awesome too. The waitress was attentive to our table. The group ordered saki bombs and she was helpful when choosing saki to use for them. I would always recommend this place for sushi in the city. Every time I've been here, I haven't been disappointed. Same rating as 3 years ago.. but wanted to clarify that 2am are hours of the past lol! Due to Covid-19, Fuji mountain closes earlier around 9:30-10pm. However, I can reassure you that Fuji Mountain has kept my sushi cravings satisfied during quarantine. Their rolls are delicious, and still very fresh. A nice little sushi restaurant with two floors and pretty good food. Admittedly, as a native of Vancouver (one of the highest density of sushi restaurants outside of Japan), the food didn't blow my socks off, but it was certainly good enough to satiate a sushi craving or to get your tempura fix. I ordered agedashi tofu, chicken teriyaki, and the katsu don for two people to share. The chicken was a little bit dry for the chicken teriyaki, but the portion was pretty big. I think that they used breast meat and it left me wishing that they used chicken thigh instead, which I usually find to be a little bit juicier of a cut of meat. The katsu don and agedashi tofu were pretty good though, and I would consider ordering it again. The prices in general I found were a little bit high for what you got - generally speaking more than $15 for most menu item entrees. Overall it was a fine experience and I would consider returning if I was craving some Japanese food in the city! I have been to this place quite a few times. Always late night because they stay open until 2am most nights. Great little spot with multiple floors and they offer Karaoke upstairs. The few times that I have been the service and the food has been great. Typical order is an appetizer and and entree. This visit was none less the same except we were wondering if there may have been a new person in the kitchen. The food was still good, we could just tell a change. We had the calamari for an app. It was cooked a little too long. I like the breading with a crisp but the actual calamari was cooked too long. The salads were way over dressed. I had enough dressing on my plate for two salads. The entrees were very good however. The salmon was very tender and the portion of the entree was large. The crispy garlic shrimp entree was also very good and plentiful. The sauces were great. The only thing was they only give you two small pieces of broccoli, I wish there would have been a few more pieces of the vegetables. All in all I am giving them 4 stars because my previous experiences her were all great, this time wasn't horrible just noticed some slight differences. I would come back again. read more

Since my last review, I've come back a few times for hand rolls and today I got the tempura udon again for lunch. It seems like the quality has gone down slightly. The hand rolls are tasty but nothing special. I find the temperature they keep the fish at to be a little too low but that's just personal preference. My udon noodles were definitely overcooked and the toppings less plentiful than before. I've had so many great experiences here, leading me to be optimistic that this is a fluke. I hope I have something good to say after my next visit. read more

My friends and I met up for a little holiday dinner. Two of us split the Chicken Yaki and the Chicken Katsu and still left a bit hungry, but we also eat a lot! There's not much to each dish: the chicken yaki is basically a noodle stir fry while the chicken katsu comes with 2 cutlets, some side pickled vegetables, some rice, and a choice of miso soup or salad. The flavors were all great, though I can't say it's the best I've ever had. For entree we ordered - White tiger and Firecracker speciality rolls. We found them alright. For desserts had choice of ice-creams - Red bean, Vanilla and Green tea (I think). Went with Vanilla ice-cream. It was nice but have had better ones. The place got filled up pretty quickly and it was very busy such that my server didn't remember I asked for extra napkins and the ice-cream took longer than any other dish we ordered. Also I had leftover sushi to go which I was surprised when I opened to eat as it had no chopsticks nor soy sauce. Never experienced that before. Was a little disappointed! I ordered delivery of two specialty rolls and some assorted sushi. The two rolls were packed together without any grass dividers -not typical - and were total slop. The color of the fish was grayish-the spicy tuna was the texture of canned tuna. In denial, I decided to just try to put a piece in my mouth but couldn't commit. Sick. The assorted pieces were warm and not firm. Also - weirdly there were two types of wasabi in the package. Review is solely for karaoke. Their rooms are HUGE, great for an entire soccer team if you wanted. Our group of was brought to the top floor. The room fit our group of 15 with space to spare and came with a coat rack as well as our own bathroom -- super convenient, especially for my friend who needed to dip out and cry discreetly for 10mins. We ordered a lot of beer and overall had a great time. I don't know how fun it would be to eat downstairs though while all this is happening because you can hear the creaking of the ceiling from drunk karaokee singers jumping up and down. read more

I've been to four other sushi places in the Philly area and none of them compare to Fuji Mountain. The actual space of the restaurant is spacious compared to the other cramped places I've been to. The staff were friendly and I liked how there was always someone walking around ensuring our water cups were filled. The menu has a variety of sushi options like specialty rolls, sashimi, hand rolls, etc. I came here with my boyfriend for dinner on a Saturday night. The rolls we ordered were Cheek Dance, Inferno, Katsu, and Florida. We also ordered mussels as our appetizer. Our order was served very fast considering how busy it was. The fish was fresh and everything tasted great. Normally, when I order mussels from a sushi place they are small and covered in some mayo based sauce. The ones from Fuji Mountain were a lot more creative and better tasting. The mussels were meatier since they used an Australian mussel and they were topped with some sort of crab I believe. Disappointed =( This was one of my favorite sushi places for my boyfriend & I so we came here last night for dinner. We had the TASTY roll from the special's menu and the INFERNO roll. It wasn't that the fish was bad but the rice was way too thick. Too much rice! If you fix that then we're good! The fish were tasty though; essentially the Tasty roll. I liked the torched fish on top but I'm sure the torching has to be bad for you. The boyfriend had the CHICKEN KATSU which came out with 2 big pieces of chicken that were nicely fried. I normally don't like chicken katsu but this one was good. The women's bathroom floor was sticky.. Besides that and too much rice on the rolls, I like this place. Awesome sushi! I was impressed with the sushi plate arrangements. I liked how they actually took time to arrange your sushi into a nice pattern on your plate and make it look fancy no matter what you got. I also liked how the specialty rolls here are actually worth your money and are twice the size of a regular roll with twice the fish and beautiful presentation as well. A lot of other sushi places scam you by covering a regular roll with a bunch of mayonnaise or cheap toppings and charge you extra by calling it a specialty roll. My only minor complaint about their sushi is that for the cucumber in my Alaska roll, they did not julienne the cucumbers to thin spaghetti-like slices. Instead, the cucumber was just one whole piece. It ruined the texture of the roll. Cucumber skin is tought when you have to chew through a whole piece. Service was okay during lunch, nothing spatacular. My table of 4 regrettably did not get our teapot refilled in our 1 hour lunch so the waitress did not seem very attentive. Ok, so I've only been here once but liked it (for the most part)! I thought the seaweed salad was a bit petite. I was also a tad upset it was not a BYOB. The sushi "boat" was fun. (It was more of a tray than a ship.) The fish was fresh, especially the sashimi. The special rolls were ok. My favorite was the one wrapped in avocado. As someone who loves sushi, this is one of the better places I have tried. Their menu is ENORMOUS so you will be able to find any kind of sushi you're craving. Great food, great service, great atmosphere. We came here on a Friday at 7:30pm and there were no other customers... and when we left there still weren't any.. which seemed odd. The sushi was great. I had the mango shrimp from the specialty rolls, and the portion was a lot larger than I had expected. I would probably skip on the cocktails here, the water melon soju martini tasted like a jolly rancher. The service was great, our waiter was very knowledgeable and approachable, and the atmosphere was light with nice decors. Maybe Memorial Day weekend everyone has left town, but I'll be back to this spot! read more

Karoake Room: My daughter rented room for her bday. Good deal for the room..room wasn't big and tables and chairs were up against the wall, which for this group, worked out better. My issue is the RUDE, cocky bartender. The pretty lady bartender was sweet and we enjoyed her. The younger guy was nice too.. the older guy with an attitude from the get go was very lucky I was asked to just let it go.. These young professional adults were out to have a good time and were PAYING just as anyone. This guy was LOOKING for trouble and A FEW times tried to accuse them of disrespecting his country. What???? Japanese comes up on the screen A LOT... however, NO ONE at all would be as disrespectful as he was.. yes, they made up their own words as they are ALLOWED too.. yes, they stomped and at times jumped.. who would know they couldn't.. HE could handle his tough guy act with a better delivery. He seemed to have an insecurity and was always throwing cocky looks at these kids. I says KIDS because I was there with my friend and we are 53! They are kids to me and GOOD kids.. I was very prepared to call him out on his rudeness! Having gone to university in Philadelphia, we would go to Fuji Mountain all the time to drink their cheap (yet delicious!) house sake upstairs.
