Came in for a fun night with the wife and kids and had a blast - it was my first hibachi experience, but I absolutely loved it. Had a bit of a wait to sit (about 30 minutes), but once seated service was quick and very attentive (got refills without asking, was kind and curteous). I had the Filet hibachi dinner which was nice and tender and about perfectly cooked - pretty incredible for cooking 4 at the same time (for my group and the other group we sat with) to different levels of doneness. My 10 year old said the fried rice was the "best rice she's ever had" - and it was pretty tasty I agree. The show the chef put on was great - it's pretty loud with the clanging and antics from the various chefs, so I'd suggest only going if you're in for an interactive and loud night. I'm extremely disappointed with my recent experience at your restaurant. I paid $42 for a combination hibachi meal that included shrimp and scallops, yet my plate only came with 6 shrimp and 5 scallops. To make matters worse, people at our table who didn't even order scallops were receiving them on their plates, meaning I was essentially paying for food that was being given to other customers. On top of that, the cook also messed up my fiancé's order. Thankfully we were together and able to switch plates around ourselves to correct the mistake, but we should not have had to fix the order issues on our own after spending that kind of money. The food wasn't bad. I didn't quite feel like 4 stars was what I wanted to give this place, but I felt like 3 was too low. Egg Drop soup was typical, but good. Egg rolls were miniature. Guess that's why on the menu they sell in a pair of 2. Upgraded our meals from white rice to fried rice. Fried rice was great with the little piece of egg that I love, just wish they could've added tiny pieces of carrots or peas in there- but I get it, there's Veggie Fried rice on the menu for a reason. Sesame chicken and Cashew Chicken portions were huge! Mom was happy with her cashew chicken. However, this sesame chicken wasn't quite for me. Love coming here for hibachi. You get so much food plus they make it in front of you. Leftovers heat up well too. You should definitely call and make a reservation (or even if it's 2 people. Call to see if there's a time that you can be fit in). They will always try to maximize the amount of people at a table, so you will likely be with others. The quality of the food is amazing and it's so fun to see them prepare it. The tip gets split with both your server and the person cooking, so if you want extra to go to the person preparing the food, you'll need cash for the additional amount. Though it was entertaining as this was my first time dining there. I thought the food was not good and the noise was so loud that you couldn't talk at the table. At first it was fun watching the chef/server entertained you with a hibachi grill at your table. It was fun to watch him. However, the food was oversaturated with soy sauce, and my filet mignon was was tough and overcooked. After you finished cooking. The room was still just way too loud with banging and slapping, etc.. Like anyone , we strolled our way to the bar to enjoy some drinks, as we waited. Our bartender was this girl and she wasn't the most welcoming , but I mean I understand, a group of 6-10 sitting down to grab some drinks, can put stress on someone, who is a single bartender. She asked us instantly what we wanted and me and my boyfriend ordered first, which was this bowl of drink for two. It was great and it had a flame too, which was very fascinating. The rest of our party got their drinks and we enjoyed them as we mingled amongst ourselves. Once our table was ready, we paid for our bill and made our way to our table. The rest of the night we got great service from this young white gentleman and when our chef was ready to make our food, we all welcomed him and were very excited to see him cook in front of us. We had a great time with him! He interacted with us, and gave a couple of us so much Sake. He made a lot of jokes with us! He was great and our waiter too. He was attentive and interacted with us great. We got separate bills and we MADE sure we all paid what was owed! Me and my bf who came together, paid our $88 bill with $100 cash. Told the waiter to keep the change and before the chef could leave, we obviously tipped him as well, since he was such a great chef! We had a few more laughs and then me and my boyfriend left and headed home. Everything was great until this morning. We woke up to these lies and misinformation getting posted by the bartender! Not the waiter or the chef or the manager, but the bartender that only took our drinks. She posted misinformation about our party and even went to extremes to post one of our friend's personal information online. For safety purposes, I crossed out his full name and his phone number which she decided to add at the end of her post. We contacted the establishment and expressed frustration that she did this and that we would be contacting a lawyer about this because not only is this doxxing, but she posted our friends information online, who he has proof and receipts that he paid for his meal and she solely targeted him by posting his information. This was very nasty of her to do, and then by calling us names and defaming us, is very frustrating. Her post has been deleted since then, but the damage has been done and no apology from the establishment or her has been issued yet. read more

I came here recently with a group of friends for hibachi and we had a blast! There was 11 of us total so we made a reservation a couple weeks in advance. I was actually shocked at how busy this place was on a Wednesday evening. It was seriously packed! I'm glad we made the reservation. They do not seat you until your entire party is there. The waitress started with our drink order and once she came back we decided on our orders. 10 of us did the hibachi and one person ordered sushi off the menu. For the hibachi, you basically just pick what proteins you want and everything else is standard across the board. They serve a salad and soup to start and then the hibachi chef comes out to start cooking. He was super entertaining and did the usual hibachi tricks like squirting sake and flinging zucchini into everyone's mouth! The onion volcano was obviously one of the highlights. I got steak and shrimp and this was super delicious. Everything tasted really good from the lo mein to the veggies. Everyone seemed pretty happy with their meal! Mine was $31 before tip (they also automatically add gratuity for larger groups) and I believe around $38 after gratuity. I felt like it was a good price because you are getting a good meal + entertainment. I also got 2 meals out of mine as I took a box of my leftovers! read more

One of my favorite places to go to when growing up. Fuji Yama... It has such an amazing Asian fusion menu, you want to come back every time to try something new! The service is great, the portions are good, eating in or out take out works great too! However it is highly recommended to come in. (Sorry for lack of pictures but when I usually go inside I'm always enjoying spending quality time with my loved ones there I forget to take pictures). They do offer hibachi, with the grill where a chef cooks in front of you and they're so skilled and amazing! Great place to go to for celebrations, dates, or just-because's. And if you do not want to do the hibachi option, they have great comfy seating inside on another part of the restaurant! They also have some gluten free options and vegetarian ones too! Fujiyama has been in East Beltline for a very long time and growing up I remember going for the Hibachi or if we want to go with family it's always nice. During the holidays it can be pretty packed, so don't expect quick service. Nowadays we mostly just do takeout and their fried rice is always so good! They do have GF options now and they do a great job of packing all of the takeout so it arrives safely to your destination. The Hunan Beef said it came with carrots, corn, and broccoli when it actually included way more than that, which is great, but they should tell people! Our food was ready pretty close to their estimated time, which is all you can really ask for. We enjoyed both dishes we ordered and the crab Rangoon as well. Fuji Yama is an upscale sushi and Japanese cuisine restaurant with a wonderful variety of menu items. The interior is well decorated, and staff make sushi rolls for everyone to view. We've been coming here since it opened. Stick to their specialties - habachi and sushi. I wasn't too impressed with the Thai dishes. The service is always good and its a nice place to go with friends or family. We go for lunch (before COVID) and we get dine in and carry out for dinner. Coldest draft beer in the area. I haven't reviewed Fuji Yama since 2013, when apparently I was not super impressed. At that time I lived in the Chicago area and only dined at Fuji Yama when I was back in town visiting. Since then I have moved back to Grand Rapids. Maybe it's because I go more often and have gained more of an appreciation, or maybe it's because they've actually improved, but either way I really love Fuji Yama now. My husband and I often get sushi cravings. Sometimes when we're out running errands, sometimes a planned date night, or sometimes we just want a take-out order to eat at home. Fuji Yama has become our favorite default place to go when we get that craving. When we dine in I prefer to sit on the bar side of the building. It's a little quieter, and it feels like there is a dedicated server just for this area. That may not be the case, but the servers have always been very attentive when we've sat on this side. Sitting in the dining side is also fine, but it is a little noisier since the hibachi area is only separate by a thin wall, and the tables are a little closer together. However, you can watch the sushi chefs on this side, which is always fun. I Love the sushi here. Our default is that my husband gets the spicy maki combo with the salad, because it's such a good deal, and I get a spicy California roll with a miso soup. However, we have also tried a bunch of the specialty rolls, which have all been very good as well. Their quality is great, and the sushi is rolled nice and tightly (does not fall apart!). We also really like their dumplings. I prefer a spicier dipping sauce, but the flavor is good and not too vinegary, so I don't mind. I absolutely love their miso soup, and it's one of my most common cravings, especially in the winter. My only criticism is that I don't recall ever seeing low sodium soy sauce. Maybe they have it if you ask, which I have not, but I much prefer low sodium. The hibachi side is also a lot of fun! My sister had her rehearsal dinner here and they took such good care of everyone! We all had a blast, and the food was delicious. Now that I mention it I really need to try it again!! Bottom line: if you like sushi, go here. I went to Hibachi and the chef's name was Eddie. The noodles were good, but the fried rice was under-seasoned. It tasted like just normal rice. The steak was burnt on one side and uncooked on the other. It was also under-seasoned and had no butter. The steak had no flavor besides the charred taste from the burnt side. Honestly, I brought my brother here for his birthday and walked away overall disappointed and underwhelmed. I thought this was a terrible experience for his first Hibachi, not because the food wasn't good but because the customer service was disgusting! All together it was me, my brother, and our sister. Our sister recently had gastric bypass and is unable to eat the amount of food they serve so she asked to order off the menu rather than Hibachi but we came for the Hibachi experience for my brother. This, they accommodated but not without first causing her to feel like she was putting them out. I wanted to order sushi rolls and appetizers as well as hibachi and my brother wanted hibachi as well. However, since my sister wasn't ordering from Hibachi, and the group who was not WITH us but was sat with us asked to share a dish between 2 small children, my brother and I could not share a dish. Okay, that's fine. We ordered 2 hibachi dishes and chose not to order any sushi or appetizers because that's WAY too much food!! I probably would have spent more money if I was allowed to order how I wanted and had they not made any of us feel like crap. I DEFINITELY would have tipped more and this review would look much different. In addition to their poor customer service to my family, I am also going to comment on their poor customer service of the family who sat with us, because if that family's order can affect my order than their experience can affect my review. As I mentioned above, we were not allowed to split a dish because this family was ALLOWED to. Well, then the hibachi chef proceeded to NOT serve a single morsel to one of the CHILDREN. This poor kid was there for the experience as well but it broke my heart each time he looked at his mom and said "mommy why don't I get any food?" She soothed him each time and gave her child food off her dish because the hibachi chef didn't even put enough on the other child's dish for the two children to share. I felt bad FOR them. They were such a great family, they didn't even complain. They just split up the food on their own, ate, and left. The hibachi chef? Mediocre. The food? Sub par. I don't think I'll be returning. Okay... now I need to be fair... rather than going straight to 1 star I will stick with using my scale. To start service ZERO stars! Food freshness and quality gains 3 stars each, ambiance (in this case entertainment related to hibachi is included) 3 stars, cleanliness 5 stars this gives 2.8 stars overall. Points to consider... allow customers to order from both the regular menu and hibachi if that is what they choose. Don't be a jerk, smile and accommodate your customer's needs. Ensure your chefs are engaging and fun rather than just loud. Ours did a lot of banging and engaged with us very little. There was nothing stand-outish about his performance at all and the fact that he never served or engaged with the children... okay dropping that ambiance to 1 star because this just gets my goat! We ordered takeout from Fuji Yama, and ordered two appetizers, salmon skin salad and crispy calamari. For entrées we ordered sesame chicken, VIP duck, and vegetable lo mein. The total was $57 for all of the above, which was enough for 2 meals for 2 people with all the left overs. The calamari and the salmon skin salad were good. The VIP duck came with a side of sauce and vegetables, which we thought was too salty, but the fried duck itself was delicious. Recommend getting the duck dish with the sauce on the side. The vegetable lo mein is just generic, and the sesame chicken was a bit dry. However there was a lot of food given, for a pretty good price. We went to eat Lunch/Dinner here at 3:00 PM on a Saturday with a good friend who eats here often and recommended the restaurant. We sat in the section that did not have the hibachi tables because we were planning on eating sushi instead of the Hibachi grill. We started our meal with their house salad. The salad dressing was flavorful, and they were very generous with the amount of dressing. I eat at many hibachi restaurants, and I thought this was the best salad served in this style that I have had. After the salad, we ordered the mixed tempura plate. The tempura was light and crispy. The dipping sauce was flavorful and enhanced the flavor of the tempura but was not overpowering. The plate had peppers, sweet potatoes, broccoli, zucchini, acorn squash, onions, and beautiful long shrimp. It was then time for the sushi to arrive. We ordered the Shogun Roll (a specialty roll not on the menu), the volcano roll, the monster roll, and a spider roll. I thought the sushi we ordered had great flavor and was well constructed and tightly wrapped. Nothing fell apart as we tried to eat it. My favorites would be the Shogun Roll and the Monster Roll. This was the first time I had eel on my sushi, which was very good. The service was very good, and they always kept our drinks filled. They were attentive when we were ready for the next portion of our meal and never rushed us as we ate. We left a little bit before 5:00 PM, and they were very busy. I came in last night for my boyfriend's birthday. He wanted hibachi so they seated us at a hibachi table in a large empty side room. We put in our drink order, then he ordered the chicken hibachi and I ordered the pad see ew... apparently they won't bring out a chef for just one, so they awkwardly had us get up from the table and go back to the host stand to ask for a different table. We reordered our drink, the volcano punch bowl for two, and it was pretty cool. The fire stays lit for quite a while and it's fun to share. It tasted heavily of orange juice but we figured it might for just $12. My pad see ew was definitely not what I was expecting. While it usually has thick noodles and broccoli drenched in a delicious brown sauce..... this one had very thin noodles, no taste at all, and was loaded with carrots, baby corn, water chestnuts, mushrooms, etc. Definitely wouldn't recommend it. My boyfriend enjoyed his flavorful chicken hibachi, as well as the soup, salad, fried rice, and red sauce that came with it. The portion was large enough that he had leftovers which is rare for him haha. The service was mediocre at best and a 1 for 2 on the dishes... if I gave them another shot it would be to try their sushi. read more

Spring rolls were soggy and mushy inside. beef lo mein had pieces of fat that were impossible to chew, noodles were overcooked. I cannot speak about the other waitresses but overall the ones I came in contact with were very nonchalant and not helpful.
