I accidentally stumbled upon this place while craving Japanese food, and I'm so glad I did! Surprisingly, this restaurant has been open for two years and is practically next to my house, yet I had no idea there was such a wonderful ramen and Japanese grill skewers spot nearby. The owner is a passionate, friendly, and energetic Taiwanese lady who immediately made us feel welcome. Even though we had just met, our conversation flowed so naturally that it felt like we had known each other for years. Her warmth and enthusiasm really added to the entire dining experience. Most importantly, the food was amazing. We tried the ramen, the yakitori platter, and the special Taiwanese pork bun, and every dish was delicious and full of flavor. You can tell that a lot of care and attention goes into the food. The restaurant itself is also very neat, clean, and comfortable. Great food, wonderful hospitality, and a welcoming atmosphere, what more could you ask for? I'm so happy I discovered this hidden gem, and I'll definitely be coming back. Highly recommended!

I'm mixed about this place. Parts of me wants to love it but other parts of me finds things here and there odd. Interior has a Japanese restaurant style going on, though something felt a little off. The waitress was nice and attentive but also felt a little pushy or assertive. Mixed because I like getting recommendations but I also don't want to feel pressured into getting the recommendations. The ramen was kinda sweet? I don't think I've had any ramen before where I would consider sweet one of the flavor profiles. Generally I would use brothy, rich, umami, creamy, salty, oily, or smooth to describe ramen soup, never sweet. Outside of that, it's just average ish level ramen, no complaints but nothing to go crazy about Soba had a decent broth, something familiar and in the realm of what I'd expect. Noodles were a bit rough and grainy but I think that's just the type of soba noodles. I don't know enough about soba to accurately critique it but it wasn't bad. The karaage or fried chicken and the recommended chicken skewer were alright. Price wise, things are in the average realm of what you would direct from a ramen joint. This place also closes later than a lot of other ramen places. They also offer mints when giving you the check which is a nice small touch that I don't see many restaurants going anymore. If the ramen broth as more standard, I think I would be open to being a repeating customer since most places close early but I think with the other options near me, I would not make this a top pick unless it was late

We were craving for ramen and found this place that also serves yakitori. Food and service were both good. Large parking lot shared with other shops in the plaza. Friendly and inviting space.

Just discovered a hidden gem izakaya in Arcadia! Their ramen and Japanese yakitori are both excellent. Except for Sundays (when they close at 10 PM), they're open until midnight, making it a great new late-night dining spot for Arcadia locals. At first, I thought this was mainly a ramen restaurant based on the name, but I was pleasantly surprised by their yakitori. The $25.30 assorted skewer platter is a great deal, featuring 8 skewers including chicken wings, pork belly, sausages, and more. I especially loved their house-made sauce--it has a unique flavor that I haven't tasted anywhere else. We also ordered grilled eel, crab mushroom, and grilled squid, and every dish left us wanting more. A special shoutout to the soft-shell crab bao. It's such an unexpected combination, but it worked incredibly well and tasted even better than I imagined. As for the ramen, the noodles had a great texture and the portions were generous. The restaurant has a cozy Japanese-style atmosphere that reminds me of a traditional late-night Japanese diner. Whether you're stopping by for lunch, grabbing dinner after work, or enjoying a few drinks with friends, it's a wonderful place to visit. Highly recommended if you're looking for authentic Japanese comfort food in Arcadia!

It's really unfortunate, but I regret coming here. Was really excited about their yakitori as there seems to be some raving reviews. However, I got their platter and it came out warm/cold. It was obviously they grilled it previously and then just heat it up a little before serving. I expect my food to taste fresh, or at-least come out hot. I should have noticed when the platter came out some quickly. It did have a nice taste overall otherwise, and still ate it. I am regretful though. Otherwise, their main ramen tasted very good. The chasu meat was very good and the Ramen came out hot. The oyster that was off the menu was amazing. Place is really cute and very Japanese. Honestly, I won't be coming back. I can't help, but feel like I was fed leftover skewers. The host was so nice, but unfortunately something was wrong with the cook. I should have not eaten the platter and hope I don't get sick. Update: I am pretty sure this gave me stomach issues, but instead of the skewers, maybe the oyster.

    Gyoza - good

I don't know if my experience is the standard experience, because the night I went was late and there was a gigantic party of people who were super drunk, and the chefs I believe were a part of it, as I saw two guys go back into the kitchen briefly once we ordered. I mean, there were like numerous empty pitchers, giant bottles of sake, and even bottles of beer on top of that. These people deserve to have fun, but it was noisy as heck that night, and I'm not sure the chefs were on their usual game, so I can only review what we experienced. They are a small join in Arcadia in a strip mall with tons of parking. Service was sober and friendly enough. The food, unfortunately, was not very good. The pan fried gyoza were the best part of the meal. Really decent. The chicken yakitori was dark meat chicken, which I hate. It was super rubbery and chewy. I really don't understand why anyone in their right mind prefers dark meat to white meat chicken, unless you love the feeling of chewing on a wad of rubber bands. The regular tonkatsu ramen was bland and oily. Not good. The volcano ramen, despite being a dark red, was surprisingly not spicy at all. Still, it was better than the tonkatsu. The big problem was whoever chopped up the cubes of chashu must've surely been drunk, because almost all of it was just cubes of fat with no meat on it. A sad experience, as I'd like to find more decent ramen places close to home, but they keep disappointing. So far it's either Sato in Old Town Pasadena or Slurpin' Ramen in either Koreatown or City of Industry. I won't be back. Can't recommend. However, to be fair, they are open late when most places are closed AND quite a few people came in to pick up take out. I'm not sure if that's because of the late hours and this is all they could find, like us, or if the quality is better when the workers aren't drunk off their gourds (allegedly; I think).

    Pork with Enoki Mushrooms

Location is in the corner of a plaza. I came for lunch at 1ish and it was empty. Two other parties came later. I came here specifically for the yakitori cause that's what I've been craving but they had ramen (including a lobster ramen that looked interesting) and Japanese curry (which our family is still looking for a comparable replacement for curry house). All skewer plates came with two skewers which i didn't know so I was pleasantly surprised at which makes the cost relatively par for skewers. They were $6-7 a plate. It still added up so I wish the had a skewer combo that you could chose cause the only skewer combo plate had skewers I didn't want. They also were out of beef, except the $30 waygu, so that was disappointing. Here are the skewers I got ranked in order of deliciousness: - Chicken cartilage. My go to skewer item. I know most people like my husband dislikes this and it's more of a leftover item that's been marketed as more than it should be but I love it. - Pork with Enoki Mushrooms. Slice of pork belly wrapped around enoki mushrooms. I think it would have been better if it was beef but it still had the same effect and was good. - Chicken. Standard chicken. Not overcooked but there was a couple of pieces where I wondered if it was under and just prayed I don't get sick. - Squid Legs. I love squid legs and these were good. Smoky but just didn't taste as fresh and clean as I hoped for. - Japanese Sausage. These came out late. I had to remind them but when I did it came out fast. I felt a little cheated cause it was cut in half and they skewered. A better presentation would just be to get smaller sausages so it doesn't looked like I was cheated half a portion. It was also super salty. Definitely needed a dipping sauce to counter that or something. It had a nice bite to it though but it was the only thing I really regretted ordering. All the skewers had the same sauce. Kinda salty but not too salty. They all also came with a slice of lime which was definitely needed to lift the dish. The decor looks clean and modern. It was clean but didn't feel like the ac was blasting despite it being a heat wave. It didn't feel uncomfortable but I wish it was a little cooler. Service was friendly and fast. I had to wave them down for a water refill the first time but she came back the second time on her own. There's only one bathroom. It was clean but I I always take note when it's only one bathroom for an entire restaurant. Long story short, I'd come again to try the ramen and curry and get some more chicken cartilage skewers.

We've always passed this place and wanted to try it. My son ordered the tonkatsu ramen(didn't take a pic) and I got the volcano ramen. Food review for the volcano ramen in the picture. I asked my son how his ramen was and he compared it to another ramen place across the street. He said the broth was not as rich. Service was great. Very attentive and as soon as you came in, we got seated. Granted it was 545pm, place didn't have the dinner rush. Place was wide open and decor was right on for the restaurant.

Was excited to try this place because of the yelp reviews, but we were just overall disappointed today. We went today around 12:30pm on a Saturday and was seated quickly. There was only one server bussing all the tables, taking orders, and bringing out the food. I dont know if they were short staffed today or if this is their usual service. We tried to be understanding as possible, but we could also tell other tables were also getting annoyed with what was happening too. It took forever to flag her down to collect our marked order that is on a piece of paper. Then 15 minutes go by, only the ramen comes out. Then, another 15 minutes go by and my friend is done eating their ramen and then I get my unagi bowl. However, it is missing the miso soup that it is supposed to come with. I ask the server about it and she says it will come out soon. Another 15 minutes go by, still no miso soup and the curry dish comes out. We didn't get any napkins or spoons or even water refils because trying to flag her down to come back was nearly impossible. We just tried to eat our food as soon as possible because we were just so over it. Once we asked for the bill, she asked if I still wanted my miso soup even though clearly we were all done eating. She finally brought it out with the bill and you can tell the miso soup has just been sitting there. I didn't even have a spoon to sip it with and didn't finish it. Overall, we are not coming back. Food was meh and the service was just so disappointing.

    2. Volcano Ramen / 火焰山拉面

Came here for dinner with friends and family after checking out christmas lights in the neighborhood of duarte and pasadena. It was my first time here with our family. I had the volcano Ramen. The volcano Ramen had a nice spice to it not too spicy. It was quite good. The Chu shoe was cut up into smaller pieces than your typical whole slice chasu. quite nice allowed to balance the noodles with the meat. Soup had a nice balance. It tasted and paired well with the noodles and chasu. We also ordered their pork bun which i enjoyed think Chinese pork wrap. Very good in my opinion. Would definitely come back when in the area and would try their other ramen the next time. Highly recommend checking it out at least once to see if you like what they offer. Service was good the waitress was attentive and checked in on us to make sure things were tasting well and to our liking. Very pleased with service.

Great service, really attentive and fast to get you anything you need. The food was amazing, definitely coming back

This yakitori spot has a warm, intimate atmosphere and feels very well put together. The charcoal-grilled skewers were cooked with care -- clean flavors, nicely balanced seasoning, and great texture. You can really taste the quality and attention to detail. It's a comfortable place to enjoy good food and drinks at your own pace. I'd definitely come back.

There are limited booth seating (about 4 booths), one larger table, and roughly a dozen counter seats. We were a party of 4 with another group of 3 expected at the counter, so we were told next availability would be 7pm. But the owner (also the sushi/master chef) stepped in and offered to squeeze in an extra chair for us at the bar. We happily said yes, and that pretty much set the tone for the night. The ambiance is a cute, homey Japanese-style spot. It's calm and quiet enough to actually have a conversation, which I really appreciated. The owner was also cracking jokes throughout the night and kept everyone entertained, which made the experience feel even more personal. Food highlights: * Eihire (seared stingray fin) - 9/10. Great drinking snack, just wish there was more. * Grilled Angus beef tongue - 9/10. Tender with a really good jalapeño sauce. * Hokkaido uni tray with roasted nori - 10/10. Favorite dish of the night, easily. * Chicken liver, gizzard, and hearts in sweet soy - 10/10. Super rich and flavorful. * Whole grilled seabass - 9.5/10. Perfectly cooked, but could've used more ponzu. * Sous vide + grilled duck breast - 8/10. Solid, especially with salt and hot mustard. The mashed potatoes and roasted veggies on the side were . * Deep fried eel with ponzu - 7/10. Decent, but didn't stand out compared to the other dishes. * Sashimi (amberjack, hamachi, toro, sweet shrimp) - overall great. The sweet shrimp and fried head were 10/10, but the hamachi didn't quite match the rest. Also wish they gave more ginger upfront. * Roasted 5 kinds of vegetables - 7/10. Tasty but a bit pricey for the portion. * Sea snail - the only dish we wouldn't reorder. Not bad, just not our preferred style. Service was excellent. Our server gave great recommendations, kept our water filled, and checked in often without being overbearing. This is a 5-star spot largely because of the owner. Super down to earth, funny, and clearly passionate about both the food and the experience. Parking is free in a shared lot with other businesses. It's a decent size, so should be manageable. Definitely recommend making a reservation (they only take phone reservations)... but even if you don't, there's a good chance they'll still find a way to take care of you. I'd definitely come back to try more dishes.

There is a physical Drink menu (sake, beer, etc.) and the food menu can be viewed by scanning a QR code with your phone. The waitress made suggestions about which dishes she personally liked & we ordered whatever she suggested, along with some of the things we thought looked good. *7/10 Toro w/ seaweed *8/10 Moriwase (chef's selection of sashimi) 2 each of 5 different sashimi. There was one cut I did not particularly care for. *7/10 chicken wings *10/10 Beef tongue-- Tender, but firm. Delicious, a must try! *10/10 Ankimo-- creamy and paired well with the ponzu and fresh seaweed *10/10 Fried Seabass-- they served the entire fish, which is rare. *10/10 Sous-vide Duck breast-- must try! *10/10 Nikomi stew--simple, but delicious! *10/10 Matcha Oolong Panna Cotta-- subtly sweet with a smooth texture. It was so good, that we ordered two! The only reason that I only gave it a four out of five stars is because the service was slow. All of our dishes, came out in time, but no drink refills were given and the server never came back to collect our check for payment. So we had to walk it up to them ourselves. For a small space, with three servers, it shouldn't be hard to attend to all the customers. The menu can be pricey, but food is delicious! Along with exceptional service, eating here is worth it.

I had a great time at Moxie - I came for a quick bite. I ordered all 3 sashimi options and my…read morefavorite was the salmon. The sashimi was a little thicker than I expected. My favorite item was the spicy tuna on crispy toast - I wish I had ordered another one! The rainbow roll was delicious. I would've liked to try their other rolls instead of the skewers I ordered. I loved the cotton candy machine - I've never seen anything like it before. The service was great - they were really kind and helpful. The inside was nice and cool, I sat in the restaurant side since I didn't do karaoke. I liked the large tvs in that room. They also have darts and cute little games.

Came for happy hour on a weekday to give it a try ~ heard that this place gives you the price per…read morehead as food credit to order off a HUGE menu (including yakitori and sushi). The overall rooms are clean with updated song banks in many languages. Service is just like any typical karaoke service (minimal but just enough). Overall food quality is good BUT sushi is only available on selected days so be sure to check before you go. Was originally going to give 3.5 star but there's no half star option. -1 star due to weekday happy hour only 6-8 so very short happy hour time yet the store does not open 10 min in advance but instead opens right at 6 so after checking in (they make you provide your phone number to send you a very long text to read before you're assigned a room) you'll be at your room around 6:10 (could be even later if there's more parties present at same time). -0.5 because since happy hour is only 2 hours (technically speaking), you have to place ALL your order before 7. Any orders placed after 7 are considered additional purchases and cannot be deducted by the food credit. So you have to spend another 10 min to decide your food options so for large parties, I don't recommend weekday happy hour, not worth your time for 1.5 hours. Their weekend happy hour is longer but busier so might find a chance to give that a try.
