Came here a month or so ago and had their Boscaiola Pizza. It was a delicious very thin crust and tasty "light bite" mushroom pizza. It was also $42. + tax and tip = $54. just for one "lite bite" pizza! My friend who took me thought it was good, but overpriced and wouldn't consider returning. I understand and had to agree, but it haunted me how delicious it was.... So, a few weeks later I had to go back for another mushroom pizza. It was impossible to get reservations, but they suggest coming and putting your name in and they'll try and get you in. So did that...after over an hour of waiting and still being third party in line on the waitlist, we were too hungry to continue to wait any longer. The hostess suggested coming earlier, closer to 5pm when they open. Kept thinking about that thin little mushroom pizza...was it that good? Or was I just really hungry that evening? So, tried again. I live nearby, left my house at about 5pm drove there and parked.... We were told there were 8 couples ahead of us on the list!! They suggested we go to the bar upstairs. I told them I came for mushroom pizza. They said, "We have the same pizzas upstairs at the bar." Feeling elated we went up to the bar. Up at the bar it was half empty so no trouble getting seated. They gave us three menus to look at. None of them included pizza! I asked and was told they have 3 pizzas available there at the bar: margherita, lemon and pepperoni. I told them That I came for their mushroom pizza. They said they were sorry, but it's not available at the bar. Feeling disappointed we ordered the margerhita pizza. It came fast. The crust tasted like a salty flexible chewy saltine cracker. The sauce tasted of fresh tomatoes, but quite salty. I particularly like that they don't use a boring bland tasting stretchy mozzarella on their pizza, but the salty flavor of the cheese was just too much salt on top of the salty crust and sauce! Feeling defeated and disappointed we headed out, now about 7pm. Downstairs at the front desk I thought they should know so that they didn't mislead others... "They don't have mushroom pizza up at the bar." Their reply was, "No, they only have 4 pizzas available at the bar, but it's the same pizza." At this point I was feeling too defeated to argue 3 or 4, who cares. But then to pour more salt on my wounds they said, "I'm sorry you were disappointed, but we have a table available and could seat you in the dining room now." Excuse me, but we just finished eating at the bar.... A week later I stopped by Funke to give it one more chance. Again they were full in the dining room and so we were sent upstairs to the bar, but assuring us that this time they had mushroom pizza available there. And, they did! But again the chewy salty saltine crust, salty topping and salty cheese... just too salty! Definitely not the pizza I have been dreaming about! read more

Took my best friend here to celebrate her birthday and we've both been to Motherwolf so we were excited. To start, the decor is just GORGEOUS, I loved watching them make the pasta and the bar downstairs is a total vibe. We were seated upstairs and ordered- Sfincione Palermitano- This was good! savory, buttery, and crispy Amalfitana pizza- I was curious about the meyer lemon and it was nice to try, but I wouldn't get this again Busiate pasta- our favorite, the sauce was delicious We wrapped up with the torta- a must if you love chocolate Service was great, our som was also wonderful, we checked out the rooftop bar after which is a sight in itself. Overall I liked it, but I prefer the food at Motherwolf as Funke didn't "wow" me as much as MF and can be pricy. I would 100% return to the rooftop bar though! read more

After trying to score a table pretty much since they first opened, I finally snagged a spot on Friday night. Overall, we had an awesome experience even if the food didn't meet my wildly high expectations (and we definitely liked the food at Mother Wolf more). Our server was Carmine and he was an absolute delight! Honestly, he pretty much made the night. Service can make or break even the best meal and he was exceptional - friendly, engaged, informative and super funny! We got the focaccia that everyone raves about and it was definitely one of our favorites of the night. I've been dying to try the artichoke hearts but they weren't on the menu (just like when we had gone to Mother Wolf before- bad timing!). But after I mentioned my disappointment, Carmine said the kitchen could whip them up for me and even add some caviar on top. Caviar is always a good idea (truer words have never been spoken), but the artichoke hearts themselves were just ok. There were a bunch of specials and we took advantage of those. Next we had the special crab cake and it was fantastic! It was our favorite dish of the night and one of the best crab cakes we've ever had (and my husband is very very particular about crab cakes!). It was hardly any filler, the outside was crispy, the sauce was delicious and the vibrant greens on top rounded out the dish beautifully. Next up was the lemon pizza. My husband had been skeptical about ordering pizza but we both loved it and thought it was delicious. It had everything you could ask of a pizza! It tasted great the next night too. Then came the pastas. We got the pesto one that everyone on Yelp seems to love and we were both super underwhelmed. It wasn't bad, but it tasted like every other pesto pasta anywhere. We left most of it and our kid had it for dinner the next night. Our second pasta was the special mushroom with truffle pasta. It was very yummy (and of course with the truffle you know it's going to cost bank), but cost aside I still think I would have preferred it without the truffle. Last up was the tangerine dessert. I liked it a lot more than my husband did. We walked around afterwards and checked out all the levels. We had been sat on the first floor and we agreed that it was our favorite. The scene is very much a "scene", which is what you would expect in this part of town. And complaining about price I think is silly. It's a hugely popular chef with a restaurant in Beverly Hills. Of course it's going to be expensive and over priced but that's part of the package. If you accept that going in then it won't sting as much lol. Date night with hubby was a success. The food was delicious. The service was great. -1 star because MY GOOOOOOOOD ITS SO LOUD. I could not hear a word my husband was saying and could barely understand the waiter. Squash blossoms: tasty but nothing to write home about. Not super memorable. Crispy and stuffed well but a hair underseasoned. La Panzanella: I'm going to dream about this salad. Fresh, refreshing, gooey burrata, an absolute dream. Almost ordered a second! Orichette: I'm a sucker for 'nduja. This was delicious. Pesce Spada: Swordfish steak was cooked to perfection. Sauce was delicious. Not much to not love here. Sorbetti: the peach was peak summer freshness. I could bathe in this. Complementary peanut butter cookies: these were a one bite delight that I could have a whole box of! Funke was incredible just like Felix and Motherwolf. What made this experience extra amazing was the fact that I got caught for 30 MINUTES behind one of those police waves where they stop everyone on the freeway. I was trapped at a standstill for 30 minutes so I called and was like "I'm trapped on the 405!!!" and they moved my reservation from 5:30 to 6:15 no problem. That and the meringata dessert is hands down one of the best desserts I've had in my life. Top 3 for sure in my life. And Chef was there running the show which was fun to see. I feel a bit conflicted writing this review, because after my first visit here, I was hoping that this would become one of my favorite restaurants in Beverly Hills, but the inconsistency in service is a huge letdown. Food/5 Service/ can range from 1-5 Ambiance/5 I've been here a handful of times, and I've tested it out all dining floors. I appreciate that each level has completely different vibes. The 1st floor is light and airy there are hundreds of glass blown lights sprinkling from the ceiling, artwork mounted on the wall and hip-hop is blasting through the speakers. The 2nd floor is dark and more intimate, the bar is more casual with the full menu. The roof serves light bites and has a full-service bar, it has the vibe of a grown-up version of E.P. & L.P. In Weho. On my last visit, after checking in with the hostess, she informed us we had our table until 8:30. After we were seated upstairs (10 mins before 7), our food came really quickly this time, I would say the first 2 courses came within 5 minutes of each other. Before we were even able to work half way through them, we were told that the dishes we were working on had to be consolidated into 1 plate so that our pizza would fit the table. I immediately asked a staff member if the pasta can come later, because we literally had no room on the table, and I did not want another course being smashed together. As we finished our last dishes, I asked the server about dessert and he replied with, "let me ask my manager if it's OK if you get moved upstairs to the roof to have them." I immediately looked at my clock and saw that it was 8:05- and I told him that the hostess, so we can sit at the table until 8:30. If I had mistaken our time slot at all, he could've very well said that- but he didn't seem to have a rebuttal. I saw my party and I felt very uncomfortable sitting there and eating afterwards so I told him we would actually love to continue the rest of our night upstairs if that was more convenient. He then came back and said that the manager said that wasn't a possibility (so why was it suggested?), and that if we wanted to, we can still have dessert with him. I politely just asked for our check and skipped dessert. I've never felt more uncomfortable and or unwelcomed at any establishment. I've continuously raved to my friends about how much I loved this restaurant, came with a handful of them, and I felt really embarrassed that my friend's 1st experience was like this. We quickly rushed upstairs and enjoyed the rest of our night unbothered on the rooftop. Less than 2 weeks ago, I sat downstairs, and each course took about 20-30 minutes to come out, at some point, I had to ask the runner if we were getting another course, and he responded with, the Italians like to course things out. That reservation was at 7:45 and we left at 10:45 PM. Now, I didn't need that many hours, but I feel like it should be somewhere in between under 3 hours, and not getting kicked out of your reservation after an hour of sitting down. The food is excellent, but just know that when it comes to service, it's a bit like playing Russian roulette. I'm not sure if because they've only been opened for 5 months and they're ironing out the operations? I hope that's the case. read more

The pastas were decent, sizes were small to be expected, but honestly what knocked this down from 4 stars to 2, besides the strangely slow service despite the fact that the restaurant was quite empty while we were there, was the shock of our bill. The most expensive pasta on the menu was $50, and the most expensive thing on the menu was a steak for maybe $80-90. So when our server mentioned an off the menu pasta, truffle gnocchi in white butter and filled with cheese, we ordered it, thinking it would be around $50. Instead, it was double the most expensive thing on the menu: $160. Yes, we should've asked beforehand, but I thought it would be in the range of reasonable: maybe $50-100 considering the prices of everything else on the menu. I told our server I thought it was deceptive that she didn't list the price up front. She said she doesn't because customers might be offended that she's telling them the price (it's really not that difficult to mention the price when explaining the dish); she also had a whole spiel prepared about where they source their truffles and from whom (they have a "special truffle guy from Italy" apparently). It's not her fault--it's the establishment's, for clearly training their staff to deceive and upsell customers. Overall this was very disappointing to see that Funke and his businesses prioritize profit over transparency. read more

Wow from the moment you arrive at the restaurant. It's is a Beautiful restaurant and convenient for shopping. Service: Impeccable. However I'll have to admit that having someone know the sommelier was a plus. Everyone was very attentive form the time you arrive to the time you leave. Food: Wow just wow - I prefer this place to Mother Wild hands down, although I truly enjoy Felix. Eva Funke pulled all the stops for this place and the wine list is something to rave about and the cocktails looked great, but I can't speak to that. This is probably the best pasta place in Los Angeles, but the steak and fish were also cooked to perfection and do not miss out on the dessert. WOW. I'm gonna be honest, I'm not a big fan of mother wolf and thinks it's extremely overrated, so I went into this with lower expectations. But MAN was I impressed! The ambiance in there is awesome, each floor is its own unique vibe. First floor is open and social, the second is more intimate and dimly lit, and then there's the rooftop. Truly no complaints on the layout or aesthetic of the restaurant. Service was exceptional. Our waitress was extremely helpful and put together a menu that gave us a variety of everything, which allowed me to sample a lot from the menu. The food was phenomenal. WAY better than Mother Wolf. Im curious if this was because Chef Funke was there at this location looking over everything, or if that is just how this place always will be. Im assuming it's the former. You should try this place asap, because I fear it will see the same fate as Mother Wolf and go downhill as time passes. read more

It took a lot of effort to get a reservation. This restaurant is so over rated. First of all it's very simple and not what I expected. It was not a happening scene, older crowd nothing like Mother wolf. Even though the food was good but not worth the price. We had a preset menu and had to pay for 20% gratuity in advance and I think that is why we didn't get the service we should have. Even though our server was super friendly but service was awful. The dishes were left on the table by food runners with no serving spoons. The food was just as delicious as expected. I was lucky to grab a reservation by checking 1 week before right when they opened. We came on a Thursday night right at our reservation time and waited about 15 mins to get seated. We sat in the mezzanine area upstairs, the tables are very close together and it is loud and bustling but that is part of the experience! Our server was amazing and gave very detailed recommendations. We had questions about the wine list so the sommelier gave us a suggestion and we were not disappointed. The pizza with lemon was so refreshing and a must try. The pastas were good, we tried the special that day but it wasn't as tasty as the others. This restaurant is just insane. We started with the squash blossoms, eggplant arancini, and focaccia (pro tip, try to save most of the focaccia to dip in various leftover sauces throughout the night). Those apps were practically a religious experience. Then, Chef Cole whipped up an insane pizza (one of their more popular ones I'm told, has squash blossoms and a pesto sauce on top). Every aspect of that pizza was top quality and delicious. We moved on to an assortment of pastas, I don't recall their names at this point but unsurprisingly they also blew us away. For dessert, go for the Panna Cotta, you won't regret it. Amazing food aside, the service is just something else at Funke. The waiters are just so fun/entertaining, and since it was my brother's 30th birthday they sent out dessert on the house. This place just knows how to make a night special and I'm so glad it's where we decided to spend my brother's special night. Oh, and it doesn't hurt when you have the endorsement of LA's celebrities... just a casual Monday night at Funke and not only was the restaurant packed but Mila Kunis/Ashton Kutcher were eating right by us, and later on in the night Gal Gadot stopped by to grab a bite too. read more

Wow! Truly, hard to put this experience into words. Bruce Lee was the most attentive server I have EVER had in Los Angeles and or on the west coast period. Homemade pastas cooked perfectly, all starters we had were ones to write home about. The focaccia starter on the fancy lazy Susan was simple yet decadent... don't skip this step. Made mention to our server that we wanted to take a peek upstairs at the rooftop bar and he closed us out and personally escorted us upstairs and got us a table in a snap of a finger. The manager needs to go. I had legitimate issues with the meal, but instead of trying to help, she tried putting on this fake nice person demeanor while basically telling me to fuck off. At any normal restaurant I would never bring up issues to the wait staff, but at a restaurant like this, a badly prepared small plate of pasta that I just can't let it go. It's obvious the GM didn't care at all about my issue, but just wanted to give me lip service hoping I'd shut up and just eat it. Her arguments to my issue made no sense, it was like talking to someone that has a doctorate in killing you with kindness. On top of that, Funke weirdly makes patrons pay for the staff's salary, explicitly mentioning that this surcharge should be in addition to the tip. I get it during covid, but this restaurant opened a month ago . Was my $45 plate of pasta not enough revenue to take care of your employees? Anyway, I love Mother Wolf and Felix but this is where I believe the restauranteur's new namesake spot is officially where he spread himself too thin. Good luck getting a reservation to this extremely hot new venue! But you should go try it at least once and see for yourself. The roof top deck is gorgeous and has open seating on a first come first serve basis, drinks are awesome and there is a separate menu up there... it's small plates so don't expect a full meal. I predict this is going to be overly full this summer... and just wait until the influencers find out how cute it is up there... hot girl summer is going to be #funkeroof or something like that. Main restaurant is gorgeous. As in, they did a great job, gorgeous. There is literally no trace of the former Pussy and Pooch location at all, this is completely transformed into a very cool vibe. The ladies room- whomever designed it deserves an award! It's gorgeous! In love with the Nikes on the wait staff but I feel bad they have to keep them sparkly white on their own- that isn't easy in food service. Bar- amazing! Lisette, the bartender at the very front bar is the one to know. She makes a mean cocktail and is worth coming in just for her. Not kidding, I will come back just for her drinks. Service at all of Funke's restaurants is top notch. I give him that. Five star service all around. They have the A team here- curated from all of LA's best restaurants, and boy are they wonderful! Notably, the hostess who looks like Kate Middleton is so sweet- and really good at her job! Sal, who is a food runner, he's above and beyond... talk about someone who should be a star! That guy has customer service in his bones, and he literally could not have been nicer... if anyone wants to know who the best person working at the entire restaurant is- it's Sal- in my opinion. Just watch what he does, that guy works his ass off and knows everything about everything, is kind to the customers and knows the dishes inside and out... he is a gem. Now for the food... Funke either loves his food really salty or we just have very sensitive palates but literally EVERYTHING we ordered was really salty. Like, so salty we couldn't enjoy the food itself because the salt took away from the food. But the squash blossoms were good (they should be salty) and the bread was also good if you wipe off the salt. Three of us found everything else was over the top salty. Underneath the salt, I can see how the food is good. Not amazing, dream about the dishes good, but good. Chef himself was there that night so I had hoped for a far superior experience than my time at Mother Wolfe (which I also didn't love) and sadly, aside from the awesome service, very chic atmosphere, amazing drinks and celebrity sightings, I still wasn't impressed. They kindly sent out a little sweet - cookies and chocolates. We didn't hear what they were (espresso truffle and cinnamon pine nut cookie) and I have a pine nut allergy so after eating the cookie, I realized it was pine nuts and fun times for me... I got to leave our dinner with a swollen tongue and got to enjoy the next two days dealing with that aftermath. I still took pictures of the chef and restaurant before I left (gotta rally for you yelpers)! If this is the best Funke has to offer, I am sad to say, this is another LA hot spot that will be like brand new sneakers, once they're worn in, there's nothing special about them anymore. read more

Finally!!! After a yr of trying to get a dinner reservation, I was able to get one to celebrate a friend's b day. It's a nice restaurant but they can do a much better job especially on the roof top area! Service is really good. The pasta dishes are delicious. However, it is too noisy! If you go with a large group, you won't be able to hear each other! I would definitely go back but with a much smaller group and try to go early so it won't be too crowded and noisy! read more

I have to say that Funke is now one of my most favorite restaurants in LA now. But to be fair, I still haven't had Motherwolf and Felix which are definitely on my list of places to try. It's just getting a reservation at any of Chef Funke's joints is a feat in itself. First of all the restaurant is gorgeous. Not extremely huge but there is a top floor and rooftop bar which I haven't had a chance to peek at yet. Everything is modern with clean lines and roomy with the tall ceilings. It's neat having the pasta chefs in the fishbowl room to see their amazing works of art and all their snazzy tools that I would love to have in my home kitchen. The service is top tier and not snobby at all considering the area. Devon the sommelier was so fun to talk to and she set up a pretty great wine list with a variety of bottles, high and low to choose from. But of course, the scene stealers at Funke are the dishes. We seriously wanted to order the whole menu but had to show some restraint. We loved all the pastas. OMG. Sooooo good. We skipped on the pizza because well, pasta is Chef Funke's specialty. I mean he wrote a book on it which I now own and hope to learn from. Loved the crudo and salads too. The Sfincione was delightful but to me it was very similar to a loaf of focaccia. I feel to make the most of your meal you should skip the bread and try everything else. But for that first meal definitely order it to try it at least once. Funke is definitely one of those restaurants you dream of going back to. I just hope they loosen up their slots a little more because not everyone wants to eat at 5 or 9:45 pm. The service was excellent and the food was to perfection. We had reservations and they seated us upstairs in a booth near the back corner. I am 77 years old & with the lighting in that corner I was unable to read the menu, so our captain server told me to use the flashlight on my cell phone. Had the room been just a little brighter there would not have been a problem. Also when we were seated, the music was so loud I could not hear what the staff was saying & had to ask them to repeat several times. By our second course the music was turned down. We have been dying to check out Evan Funke's new joint in Beverly Hills. Needless to say it's hard to get a reservation. We decided to show up right at 5 pm when they first open to see if we could sit at the bar. There was already a small line and things weren't looking great. When we got to the host and asked about bar seating, he said they were all taken for the night. He then said softly that he does have a table open and asked if we would prefer that instead. Ahem, hellssss yessss! That was such a kind offer and we were truly psyched. He confirmed with his manager and we were taken to the mezzanine and got seated at a booth. Now, onto the food. It's family style and meant to be shared. We ordered the puff pastry and shaved fennel salad to start. The puff pastry is so flakey and the cheese filling with onions are to die for. We followed that with Diavola pizza, Agnolotti and Prime Rib Eye Cap. Pizza and the steak are great, but the handmade agnolotti with roast gravy is heavenly! Everything was seasoned and cooked well. To end this epic meal, we had to order my favorite panna cotta for dessert. His version came with shaved ice on top, which was refreshing after a warm day out. By 6:30 pm as we were getting ready to leave, the restaurant was happening and pretty much all the tables were filled. Everyone was super friendly and attentive. Amazing experience at Funke. The restaurant was full on a Friday night but we were promptly seated at a spacious booth. Very nice ambiance and not too noisy. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and answered all our food questions thoroughly. Our food selections were very tasty and none of them disappointed. Everything was perfect, the food, drinks, service, room setting. Will definitely return. Upon leaving we checked out the rooftop. Was packed with drinkers and diners having a merry time. read more

After dining at Mother Wolf several times I was able to make the aquantance of the Manger and he was able to arrange a reservation for us and two friends at Funke, what a beautiful place, as have watched reviews on this place and I though I would make my own opinion, but sadly a lot of the same things that are on that menu are on this menu, we where hoping for something different not to say it's not good but different would have been better, one thing that is a little upsetting is the 4% wellness charge that when I asked our server they mentioned they don't know where that 4%, goes? After dinner we decided to head upstairs to the rooftop bar & lounge which our server said was no wait and to head straight up there, as we made our way up and sat down the hostess told us we had to put our names down and wait to be seated not to mention there where several tables wide open which was a little dissapointing, I am a firm believer in forming your own opinion so I would say go and evaluate this establishment for yourself. read more

Funke - Walkway to rooftop bar & lounge - Italian Near Me - Beverly Hills, California

A great addition to the Funke group. Beautiful space, and similar great food that you'd expect from his other restaurants. Comes with a level of pretension, but can't tell if that's from the staff or from the clientele, but who cares when it's that good? They said the pizza dough is different from his other restaurants, but I couldn't tell a huge difference. The Panzanella is always spectacular, his and Nancy Silverton's are literally the best I've ever had and I order it anywhere I see it on a menu. Pasta is always on point. His desserts have never been my favorite, though, so the Torta Di Cioccolato was about what I expected, which wasn't amazing. The highlight was the Napoli cocktail. So freaking flavorful, well-balanced. Literally a perfect martini-style drink, loved it. There are 3 areas, the downstairs, middle dining, and rooftop. They all seemed great to me, so can't really go wrong. The rooftop is a different, limited menu though. I still prefer Mother Wolf honestly, then Felix would come next, but it's nice to have a Funke restaurant in BH. And that rooftop bar will kill during the summer, so excited for that. read more

My feelings about my experience here are decidedly mixed. I dined here with a friend on a Tuesday night and we had a 8:30 PM reservation. We showed up a bit early, so we were told by the hostess to head upstairs for a drink and to come back down around our reservation time because our table wasn't ready yet. This wasn't a problem and we were happy to wait at the bar while our table was prepared. The rooftop bar was crowded, but this was in line with other reviews that mention how packed the restaurant can be, even on weeknights. When I got to the bar, the bartender just stared at me, so safe to say it felt a bit awkward saying "uhhh can I place an order". He then asked, "well are you 21?" I said yes and but said that he was welcome to check. When he saw that I was of age, he tried to turn it in to a "you look young" joke. I understand that people would like those of us who appear younger than our stated age to take this as a compliment, but I have yet to encounter another 30 year old woman who enjoys being taken for a delinquent teenager. My advice to the bartenders would be either ask to see ID or don't, but refrain from commenting on a person's appearance. When we went back downstairs to check in with the hostess, we were told that the party occupying our table had paid, but they were slow to rise. It took more than half an hour after our reservation time for us to be seated. They did offer us a complementary glass of champagne for our wait and checked in with us regularly. The staff is professional, and I appreciated that, but the long wait certainly dampened the experience. We were seated at the table directly in front of the kitchen, which we were told was the "best seat in the house." We did get to see Evan Funke working that night, so that was a pleasant surprise. Our server arrived quickly to tell us about the menu, offer to translate, provide recommendations, and inform us of the items that were unavailable. He did well to give us space when we needed it, and arrived promptly when we were ready to order. We ordered the dressed lettuce, short rib meatballs, Orecchiette, and the Busiate pasta. All were pleasant, and tasted exactly how I would expect those dishes to taste. The hand made pastas were beautiful and cooked to perfect texture. I have to say, I expected to be "wowed" in flavor and/or presentation, and I was not. Sometimes "as expected" is just fine from a restaurant, but it's always delightful to leave a new place surprised by the chef's interpretation of a menu and excited for what you will discover on the next visit. I left feeling like the whole experience was "fine". The space is beautiful and I could certainly see myself returning in the future, but probably after a visit to Mozza or Chi Spacca first. read more
