I found The Night We Met on OpenTable while looking for a restaurant to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. I was immediately impressed by the ambiance and intrigued by the menu, so we booked a reservation for 7 p.m. on a Saturday night. Huge plus: there's a parking garage adjacent to the restaurant. Bring your ticket inside and they'll validate it! The entrance immediately sets the mood. There's outdoor patio seating, and we were greeted by live jazz music, which was a great touch. It was a lively Saturday night, so we waited a few minutes at the bar before our table was ready. The seating is pretty close together a little too close for comfort but it didn't take away from the overall experience. The staff was welcoming, and our waiter was really nice and attentive. We decided to share the Hong Kong Rice, Beef Skewers, and Dumplings, and everything was 10/10. The flavors were incredible, and each dish felt thoughtfully prepared. Overall, The Night We Met was a great choice for a birthday dinner. Between the atmosphere, live music, service, and exceptional menu, I'll definitely be returning to try more dishes.

Really nice and romantic date night spot. Came for an early bday dinner, just fyi they don't do free dessert for birthdays :(( Some the tables are really close together making it difficult to get by when trying to get up to the bathroom too. I totally recommend the branzino! I'm not a huge cooked/fried fish type of person but I was genuinely impressed. The fish was crispy with a lovely spicy, salty sauce and mushrooms. I'm still dreaming about it to this day. The Thai salmon sashimi has a really good kick to it! I love spicy foods so much so I was very happy. If you're sensitive to spicy foods, I would skip this. The soft shell crab curry was good, but I would def try another dish next time.

Great vibes, good food, great company. Food 4/5 Salmon Tartare $20 - Standard, nothing too special to it. Fiji Shrimp Ceviche $22 - Love the flavor profile. The spice and the coconut milk are chef's kiss. Seared Scallop $21 - Honestly, a little disappointing. The sauce is good but it didn't have that wow factor for me. Sichuan Dumplings $16 - Delicious! Loved the sauce. Soft Shell Crab Curry $27 - Would have rather ordered this twice instead of the scallops because this dish was amazing. Yellow curry is one of my favorite due to the flavor punch. Yakisoba was questionable but actually tasted amazing in this dish. Crying Tiger $38 - Ribeye that we regret ordering. It was very dry and sooooo salty. Least favorite dish of the night. Service 5/5 Our server was nice. He brought out utensils for us to cut my cake so we weren't charged a cake cutting fee, a new thing I learned restaurants are doing these days. Ambiance 4/5 Loved the decor and that we got a corner booth for my birthday. Really cozy and charming. I really wish they didn't dim the lights further, it made it really hard to see the vibrant colors of our dishes.

Sometimes the best restaurant finds are the completely unplanned ones. We stumbled into The Night We Met after an event nearby and ended up having a fantastic dinner. The place was packed with live music playing. Despite only taking reservations, they were kind enough to seat us at the bar. Honestly worked out perfectly because the bartender took great care of us from the moment we sat down. What we ordered: Tokyo Caesar (8.5/10): Every piece of romaine was perfectly coated in that yuzu Caesar dressing. Simple and delicious. Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice (8/10): Came with four pieces and made for a solid starter. Garlic Noodles w/ Chicken (9/10): Garlicky, savory, and cooked perfectly. The juicy chicken paired really well with the noodles. Crying Tiger (10/10): The star of the night. Perfectly cooked marinated steak with a sauce so good I was tempted to ask for extra and drink it. The interior is absolutely gorgeous with thoughtful details everywhere you look. Whether you're planning a date night or dinner with friends, this spot delivers on both food and atmosphere. Can't wait to return!

My friend Jaz and I decided we're making girls' night a monthly thing, and she picked The Night We Met because she knows how much I love Asian-inspired food. We went around 8:30 PM and somehow I got lucky enough to find street parking, which felt like a win in that area. I had honestly never been here before. I've been to other spots nearby, but somehow never made it into this one. The restaurant was packed, which is always a good sign, and the atmosphere was beautiful. The decor, lighting, and overall vibe made it feel like such a fun place for a night out. We were seated pretty close to other tables, which wasn't my favorite part of the experience, but it wasn't enough to take away from the night. Our server was incredibly kind and attentive, walked us through the drink menu, and made us feel welcome from the start. We ordered the fried rice, garlic noodles with chicken, and dumplings, and every single dish was so good. I love restaurants that serve smaller plates because it makes sharing easy, and getting to try a little bit of everything with a friend is my favorite way to eat. Overall, I had a great experience. The food was delicious, the service was great, the atmosphere was beautiful, and the prices were very reasonable. We left full, happy, and spent under $100. I'll definitely be back for another girls' night.

I've been meaning to try this place and finally had the opportunity to do so. The interior is very nicely decorated with beautiful lanterns in the ceiling, but the restaurant itself is definitely smaller than what the pictures make it look like. You're also seated superrrr close to everyone, making it hard to have private conversations or even get up. For the food, if you come here, definitely get the Thai Salmon Sashimi. The sauce is amazing and you get a slight thai chilli kick! I would also recommend the soft shell crab curry! The flavor with the noodles was amazing and I liked the coconut milk hints. The crab was also very yummy, but I do wish there was more crab flavor throughout the dish. I also got the Hong Kong fried rice and the garlic green beans, but I would skip on these next time. The fried rice was good but nothing special and not worth the price, especially when you can get for cheaper somewhere else. The garlic green beans were a little bland and there was not much garlic flavor.

My boyfriend and I LOVED this place !!! We went for my birthday so the lychee sorbet was free and it was AMAZING! Also the Thai tea tiramisu.. it's like eating the drink! Every dish we got was fresh and delicious - garlic noodles with chicken, garlic green beans, beef skewers (caramelized and tender!) and also the roti was flaky with a spicy curry. Service was really fast and attentive, even with the water too. I was impressed. Inside is GORGEOUS, lanterns and a dark romantic date spot! Also super affordable too. Will be back again!

Came here with a few friends for brunch! We were originally going to met her at the bar but there was no line here so they recommended we get brunch here instead since they have similar menus. The food was delicious and the servers were so nice! We loved the berry soufflé pancakes the best! The restaurant was also very well designed. The ceilings were super cool, the lighting was moody, and overall perfect for a dinner. Definitely want to come back and try their dinner menu!

At first impression you're welcomed into a dimly lit, intimate dining room under the light of a ceiling full of paper lanterns. Makes for such a beautiful date night spot! Staff is prompt, friendly and made sure our larger group was taken care of! The food was excellent. We had a great variety on our table and everyone had nothing but rave reviews of their meals. The Sichuan dumplings were delicious and I could not stop picking at the tempura green beans, especially with the dipping sauce. The special ketchup that came with the regular fries was so unique and delicious too. Highly recommend the Lychee cocktail and the desert was devoured instantly. A stand out was the Thai tea tiramisu, if you enjoy that flavor you'll love it- such a perfect take on tiramisu!

Cute Sexy Spot for a girls night!!! I love the ceiling & just all the interior decor. The food is super delicious, you can't go wrong with it. It's honestly not even too pricey. We ordered a fair amount of food & it turned out to be $35 per person for my group of 4!!! We shared everything we got & loved each item.

My boyfriend and I came here to celebrate our anniversary. We actually had our first date at Met Him at a Bar so we wanted to celebrate 4 years at this new location. I was so excited to try it! Wow, this restaurant is so stunning inside. So thoughtfully and meticulously decorated. It's beautiful! Dim lighting, lanterns adorning the ceiling. Such a nice ambiance and perfect for a romantic night out. They have really fun cocktails with unique flavors. I got the Green is In which has gin and is colored from the spirulina. I was in love with this cocktail and got it twice bc it was so good! We ordered lots of food. The Thai salmon sashimi to start. This was incredible, unique compared to other standard salmon sashimi dishes and it has a bit of a kick. The Fiji shrimp ceviche was delicious with its creamy coconut milk sauce. Next, we got the roti with Panang curry. The roti has a fun presentation, I've never seen it folded in this way. Roti is always good and this one was too, it was comfortingly delicious. For our mains, we got the soft shell crab curry and the braised beef curry. Both were delicious in their own unique ways, we enjoyed every bite of both. We were worried it might be too much curry but it wasn't and we overall loved our meal. For dessert, we got mango sticky rice which was beautifully presented, all the details were so stunning, and it tasted delicious. When telling our waiter about our anniversary they brought over glasses of champagne which was so nice. She really helped make our night feel special. We were hoping to say hi to the owner and share our story but we weren't able to this time. We look forward to coming back and enjoying more dishes!

The Night We Met is sat on an unassuming little corner on La Brea next to a brewery. Upon entering by we were greeted by the lively front desk staff. The restaurant is small inside but big on energy. There's a live jazz band in the corner which really gave the space a fun vibe. While we waited for our table we sat at the bar and ordered a couple drinks. The bartenders were super friendly helpful when It came to choosing cocktails. We got a great little banquet booth that gave us a great view of the room. We came with another couple which I highly recommend doing because you can order so much of the menu. We went all out! We started with the Cesar which you can definitely skip. I love anchovies in my Cesar but this was beyond fishy. For our appetizers we started with the spicy tuna crispy rice, scallop crudo, and hamachi crudo. The scallop crudo is also a skip. Next we got the roti patang curry, chicken satay, soft shell crab curry, & kimchi fried rice. Everything was really good! For our third round we got the regular fried rice, crying tiger, tempura green beans, asparagus, garlic & chicken with noodles. Everything was a hit. We all left completely satisfied and can't wait to go back and dive into more of the menu!

loved having my birthday dinner here with my sis. it felt all at once special yet unfussy, an establishment that took their food seriously without the pomp and circumstance that comes with LA dining. a good place for a date night or drinks with the girls but the clientele around us was varied and relaxed. parking is surprisingly easy - there's a lot one street over but we found street parking asap for a friday night. the food was delicious and well paced - a favorite of ours being the salmon sashimi (such an unforgettable punchy sauce that i tried to replicate at home), the drinks were great and landed on our table right away, and the live music added to the vibe. can't wait to go again!

Ask the Community - The Night We Met

Do they play house music or edm?

Uh. Don't really know the difference nor have I really payed much attention to the music. It's pretty low in volume. The natural restaurant noises and chatter fill the space. I've only heard jazz from the live bands.

Do you need a reservation to sit at the bar?

No need the reservation at the bar :)

When does the Jazz band perform?

I was there on a saturday night from 845-10pm.

11/19/2025: Is it still special event/invite-only? Or is it open to the public? Do we need reservations? Thank you!

We have officially opened our doors to the public for our soft open so come on in! Reservations will start on December 6th onwards :)

I was instantly so glad we chose this spot to celebrate our anniversary because it was the perfect setting for a romantic date night. Now, let's talk about the food! Everything we ordered was delicious, with the exception of the Korean aguachiles, which we probably could've skipped. We also tried the bluefin bibimbap, oysters, and the oh-so-tender short rib that practically melted in our mouths. But the most unforgettable dish was also the simplest: the Korean fried chicken. It wasn't necessarily something out of the ordinary, but it sure tasted like it. The perfect crisp, flavor, and seasoning had us eating every last piece right down to the bone. Our server also made the experience even better. She gave us some of the best recommendations and were incredibly attentive and friendly throughout the entire meal. This spot opened about a year ago, and has a cool speakeasy style entrance at the Highland Park Bowl bowling alley. It is a small space, and I would highly recommend making a reservation on Resy. You have 90 minutes to drink and dine. I parked behind the bowling alley where there is a medium sized pay parking lot. Park in a space, remember your space number painted on the ground, and go to the pay station at the end of the lot. I found the parking machine to be extremely finicky as did other people. After ten minutes of failure, I ended up moving my car to another space, and then it worked. This has nothing to do with the Lucky Tiki, but FYI if you park there. We walked around to the front of the bowling alley, and checked in. Seating options include at the bar, tiki hut booths, and high top tables. The décor inside is a tiki lovers paradise. The room has a high ceiling with many tiki lamps, floats, puffer fish, tiki huts, thatch, ropes, barrels, netting, carvings, a hanging canoe, and a large tiki right in the middle of the space. In addition to the great décor, when you order certain drinks, special effects are triggered. There was also great tiki music playing all evening. We sat at the bar since we always enjoy talking to the bartenders. We actually ran into Skipper Christian in the parking lot on the way in, and he ended up being our main bartender, with Nick and Jo also working behind the bar. We put in a food order right away. The chicken potstickers ($12) came with five tasty bites, and the garlic teriyaki dipping sauce was good. We also had the giant pretzel ($16) which comes with mustard, beer cheese, and ranch sauces. This was excellent, and the perfect filling snack before a bunch of drinks. My first drink was the Siren's Song (Flor de Cana Eco rum, lemon juice, cassis, Oloroso sherry, apricot foam topper, $19). This drink is served in a great mermaid with skull mug and triggers special sound effects and bubbles fill the air. Those bubbles on top of the drink had a great light citrusy apricot flavor, probably the best flavored bubbles I've ever had. The drink itself was very good and balanced with some complexity. She wasn't sure what to order at first, and Christian asked her what flavors she liked. He ended up making a spin on a Tradewinds with some mango and pineapple to go along with the apricot and coconut. It was nicely balanced and not too sweet, even with all that fruit in there. My second drink was the Sun of Suns (Tierra de Acre mezcal, coconut cream, Giffard mango liqueur, pineapple juice, lime juice, $17). This was coconut and pineapple forward with some good smokiness in the background. Her second drink was the Whatever Floats Your Boat (Ford's gin, lemon juice, velvet falernum, orgeat, passion fruit syrup, guava soda, topped with hazelnut passion fruit foam, $19). It is served in a cool boat mug, and triggers thunder sound effects and lighted mechanical Polynesian tiki characters paddling a canoe over the bar. This was another good balanced drink. It was a little gin forward and the passion fruit popped out, maybe from being both in the drink and the foam top. That creamy hazelnut passion fruit form on top is delicious. I'd happily have a glass of that on its own. We were still a little hungry so we ordered the Hawaiian pizza (marinara, diced pepperoni, red onion, pineapple chunks, hot capicola ham, $16). It was another good tasting, perfectly sized snack, and the crust was light and airy. We were already fifteen minutes over our time limit, but we got the green light to stay longer to order a third drink to share. We ordered the Tiki Diablo (Flor de Cana Eco rum, Worthy Park 109 rum, Alma Tepecha chile liqueur, orange juice, lime juice, mango syrup, guava soda, $24). This drink serves two people, is served in a cool volcano bowl with glowing red lava around it, and comes with a fire show. Unfortunately, right after it was served, the host came over and said we were over our time and had to leave shortly. Christian made up for it by giving us two tall pours to go enjoy in the bowling alley bar area which was fine. We were happy we got some extra time inside. The drink was also very good, balanced with a little complexity. We had a great time. There is so much great décor to look at. The drinks and food were very good, and some of the the drink presentations and special effects were the icing on the cake. All of the bartenders were very friendly and a lot of fun. We purchased up a few zombie glasses to take home as a souvenir. I'd definitely recommend visiting the Lucky Tiki in Highland Park!

We decided to get a drink to celebrate Father's Day, only to strike out at the first two bars we tried--I guess a lot of places are closed at 9:30 on a Sunday. This is how we ended up at Thunderbolt, a buzzy bar in Echo Park, just far enough away that we'd never made our way over. I loved it immediately. Thunderbolt has the friendly, comfortable atmosphere of a neighborhood bar and the hip aesthetic and high-level cocktails of a millennial boozer destination. (Not that young people can't or shouldn't hang out here, but it seems especially geared toward people like us, who drank at Walker Inn a decade ago.) We ended up sitting next to a guy who regularly drives up from Palos Verdes. I guess the place gets pretty busy, but it was ideal on a Sunday night. Happening but not crowded, with just enough space at the bar for us to grab two seats together. The bartender was great, super helpful and welcoming. He also made excellent drinks. Thunderbolt is one of those bars with an encyclopedic illustrated book for a menu. Not a long menu, just a detailed one, with a lot of information available about each drink. We got a Liquid Picnic and a Barcelonnette--just one round to close out the weekend. Both were delicious. The Liquid Picnic was a smooth, savory gin martini made with London dry gin, tomato, citron, vermouth, rosemary, and black pepper. I learned from the book that it used clarified tomato water. (There was also further reading about the clarification process.) The Barcelonnette was a mezcal sour with Suze, passionfruit, and lime, the foam made without egg white through some geeky mixologist process. Thunderbolt is not our neighborhood bar, but we plan to go back when we can to check out the rest of the menu. It's a wonderful place, well worth a jaunt on the freeway.
