I came here with friends who were craving the taste of a beloved chicken wing franchise from japan. We had just had korean fried chicken the day before and to be honest, I was kinda over chicken wings. I'm not a big bone person and I get so tired of the mess. But this place had some damn good wings. I really liked it. My friends said "its not the same as Japan..." But hey, is anything the same as where you first discovered it? Nah. Good thing this was my first taste of these style chicken wings. They looked so wimpy compared to other american style wing places, but on first taste I was impressed. It wasn't too saucy and it was crispy salty sweet. We also got a bento set and a few other skewers. The service was attentive and we sat in the back area where you take off your shoes. A little hard and uncomfortable for me and my boyfriend because we are not very flexible, but it was kinda cool and fun to try. The waitress joked with my boyfriend "Don't worry dinner is almost done!" hahaha. Grew up eating at this restaurant--I always have to eat at Furaibo when I come home to visit. They also have a Furaibo in LA (on Sawtelle) but it's not as good as the one in Gardena for some reason (trust me). Recommendations: - Fried Baby Halibut (they usually run out so order it fast!) - Yellowtail Collarbone (yea, it's pricy but its SO tender and tasty) - Teba Saki in sweet (they are known for their chicken wings; I like it sweet but spicy is also popular) - Agedashi Tofu - Tori Pirikara (spicy & sweet chicken) - Octopus in wasabi sauce (so refreshing because of the wasabi) Other comments: - Bento box is pretty big and worth it. It includes pork katsu, which is really crispy. Service Decent, I never had any problems with them. However, there was one instance when they messed up my bill so make sure you go through it (the receipt doesn't list the item names so you have to remember the prices). The tebasaki chicken here is unlike anything out there. When people hear me talk about these delicious specially seasoned mouth-watering fried chicken, they tend to find it hard to believe that the chicken can really be that good. But it is indeed THAT good. I recommend the wings versus other parts of the chicken as there is more surface area for the special seasoning to coat. And since the meat on the wings is closer to the bone than meat on the thigh, breast etc, the wing meat is more tender and flavorful as well. Their steak lunch special for around $10- is also superb. It's served with a delicious ponzu sauce and a little cube of butter that melts as the steak sizzles. It's better to go to Furaibo for lunch since they charge more for the same items in the lunch combos at night (you need to order them a la carte unless you get the combos). However, if you do find yourself at night, there's the deep fried baby halibut served with ponzu sauce that is soooo tasty. The only thing that I wish they would change is to offer green tea or some other tea to help cleanse your palate of the fried foods. Furaibo is alright in my book! We are frequenters of other popular Japanese restaurants, and my husband and I have heard about it from some friends, so we were looking forward to eating there when we were invited to have dinner there. They have some really great dishes to choose from. It's a lot like some of the other popular Japanese restaurants, where you choose from a variety of meats that they cook on the grill. We have our favorites that we normally get, so we got those and we tried a couple of other dishes that were recommended to us by some friends who love to go there. The chicken wings were really delicious. They were a bit greasy (which is bad for people on a diet like me), but they were full of flavor. I probably could've eaten a whole plate full of them. That was about it though. Everything else was pretty ordinary. We got some other chicken dishes, like chicken on skewers, chicken with onion on skewers, chicken with mushrooms. At some of the other places that we go to, you can really tell a difference in flavor if you order chicken with onion versus chicken with mushroom, but everything tasted the same. Don't get me wrong. It was delicious, but it would be nice to be able to tell the difference on whether or not your'e eating the chicken with onion or the chicken with mushroom. Sure, you can tell by looks, but taste should be up there in ranking too. The service was really good. They got our food out pretty fast, and they were very hospitable - always making sure to ask us if we needed anything more. A coworker tells me, he knows of a place to get good chicken wings. Okay, I'll bite, let's go. He takes me to FuRaibo in Gardena. We get there at 11:25a, and the window sign shows closed. No way, it can't be closed today. We open the door, and someone yells out, 'we not open yet'. We wait around, and when they turn the sign, we're the first to sit. So, my co worker keeps telling me to try the double order of wings, I took his work and ordered the number 6 lunch special, the Double Teba. I ordered the regular spicy with double dressing. There are four spicy levels, which are Sweet, Mild, Regular and Extra Spicy. He also warned me that it will take about 10-20 minutes to fry them. The lunch specials, Eleven items, all come with miso soup, cabbage salad and rice. The wings are as satisfying as eating buffalo wings anywhere. The house dressing tasted like Mayo with 1000 island dressing mixed, but it did taste good. I had a clear view of the refrigerator and kept eyeing the beers, but I had to go back to work, so that was disappointing. This place was packed by 12 noon, but the orders came out quickly enough that the turn over of patrons was fast. Not sure what it is. When cooked right, the crispiness and heat and sweetness all mesh brilliantly. That combined with a nice cold nama beer? Happiness, especially if it's after work on a Friday. There are also a lot of other dishes that seem to stand up on their own if you aren't feeling like wings. I have been to their Sawtelle location numerous times (usually drunk, which alwayssshh makes for an objective, detailed review). This one is pretty good but not as spacious (square footage) and not as cozy (seating plan, booths, etc). The food is solid and yummy. We ordered the teba-saki (chicken wings) dinner box, agedashi tofu, spinach ohitashi and broiled mackerel. Everything was very good. Over all pretty effing good. If you're a fan of salt and pepper chicken wings, minus the fatty juicy meat, then this style is a must for you. I came here with my friend very excited about the chicken wings because we both like chicken wings a lot. The menu has a huge variety of food to choose from. Most of them were snacks like beef sashimi, chicken wings, takoyaki, and yakitori. But you can also turn your order into a meal w/ rice. We ordered beef sashimi, chicken wings, chicken yakitori, steamed spinach, and homemade fries. The fries were really good, but kind of oily. The beef sashimi was a bit frozen. The chicken wings and yakitori were just ok. I actually didn't like the chicken wings that much. I didn't really like the steamed spinach either. The service was a bit terrible. The waiter was about to put a plate of yakitori on our table, and he didn't warn my friend in time, so my friend moved his arm and knocked the plate onto the floor. The waiter sighed and left without saying anything or cleaning up the yakitori on the floor. My friend and I were wondering what happened. So were the people sitting next to us actually. After a few minutes, the waiter did not look like he was going to clean it up or give us another plate, so I waved him over and asked him if he was going to clean up the mess since the table next to us was about to leave and someone could trip over it. He said yes and that he'd bring out another plate. Well, he didn't clean it up until another 15 minutes later, and he just picked up the yakitori and plate off the floor. He didn't even wipe the sauce off. The only thing I'd come back here for is the homemade fries. But I think I'll just take them to go instead of having to sit and receive that kind of service. read more

I used to come here very often and loved this place. However, after today's visit, I might have to think twice before I come. First, we had to stand at the front entrance for over five minutes and not being attended to. The place was not busy, and there were empty tables available. I am not sure the reason. Secondly, we had to wait another 10 minutes to get our orders taken. I think the service quality degrades so much that it is actually affecting the business. Try "boiling point " next time. Where do i start... First their chicken wings are amazing. you can order thigh or breast too. they deep fry it and put a sweet sauce on it, it is spiced up to your liking. (extra spicy is really good. they put white pepper on it). Dinner time you can order ala carte. make sure to get the wings, their tonkatsu is really good. spinich with bacon is good, nasubi with some pork and sauce is really good. we order fried tofu and kaki fry. make sure to order a big bowl of rice. the rice is very good and you will eat every last piece. Other than the chicken wings, my absolutel favorite dish they serve is the soft shell crab. I've tried soft shell crab other places, and without a doubt this is the BEST place i've been to serve that spectacular dish! There's nothing on their menu that you can order and be disapointed. Honest! The staff is wonderfully friendly, i have a soon to be 2yr old and they're so friendly with him, wait... friendly isn't the word. He's practically adopted by the waitresses. I like Furaibo, regardless of what my co-workers think, I actually like the place. If it were just about the food, I think I'd give Furaibo three stars-- the chicken is good, a little dry, not particularly spicy (even when you opt for the spiciest version), and the lunch prices are reasonable. That said, I have to give Furaibo four stars because of the joy that not going there gives me. My co-workers love Furaibo too much, it's a definite character flaw on their part. I too am a flawed person and I take great pleasure from exercising my veto power and denying them Furaibo from time to time. I make a point of suggesting Fubairo as a possible lunch destination regularly, only so I can later nix it and watch the smiles come crashing down. The food you will find at this restaurant is equivalent to most other Izakaya houses (a type of Japanese drinking establishment which also serves food to accompany the drinks. The food is usually more substantial than that offered in other types of drinking establishments in Japan such as bars or snack bars) such as Kappo Honda, Honda Ya and Haru Ulala. We ordered a slew of dishes and about 20 bottles of beer and 12 bottles of Sake. The price came out to be $30 p/person. Very reasonable for a group of 15 considering the amount of food we consumed and the amount we drank. Instead of going through each dish, since most are comparable to the other establishments (good but nothing unique), I will talk about one dish in particular. The Fish Cake Tempura with Cheese. Now first of all, anything fried tastes better when drinking. It's like fried food and alcohol go hand in hand but to add cheese to it brings it to a whole new dimension. The batter was light, flaky and crisp. The fishcake which almost tasted like imitation crab was very good. BUT in between the fish cake was this gooey substance that resembled cheese. Double teba, extra spicy... my favorite order. For those who have never been, double teba consists of a dozen chicken wings, seasoned to perfection and deep fried. They are crispy, sweet, salty and spicy, all at the same time! Gotta love that combination. Their other dishes are good as well. I've tried their japanese eggplant, fried baby shrimp, french fries and whole fried fish with ponzu sauce. All were excellent! One major draw back is the service, which can be slow. If you get them on an off night, you can wait a while for your food and refills on drinks. I think Furaibo has some bomb food, but the prices are way too steep for me to want to go here all the time. The last time I was here it ending up being a $60+ tab for lunch between two people without any soft beverages or alcohol. Furaibo is known for two dishes from what I remember: Teba-saki (chicken wings) and Karei (deep-fried whole baby halibut served with ponzu) With those two being the center pieces to any meal at Furaibo, I tend to build around them with other dishes. This case, we ordered buttered asparagus, Enoki and scallop, hanpen cheese as side dishes. Teba-Saki: First off, almost everyone I know orders this item extra spicy, which is not at all spicy. I am a huge spice lover, but extra spicy on this item hardly does a thing. The chicken wings are normally a decent size, but this time around we received wings that once belonged to a skylark. Seriously, the wings were about 2/3rds the size of my pinkie. Very disappointing. The flavors were there, but I could polish off 3 of those at a time at the same time. This was the first time I've received such small pieces of wings. Karei: Is one of their signature dishes like the Teba-Saki. A deep fried baby halibut cut up and served in its own bones as a bowl, yes this is a win. The pieces are slightly smaller than the size of the chicken nuggets at macdonalds, but made from delicious halibut meat. They are crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside. Served with a side of ponzu sauce, the Karei is a must at Furaibo. Enoki and Scallop: sounds like the title of a children's book that feature two companions. The Enoki mushrooms and Scallops match very well as a dish, but the scallops used are way too small and the Enoki mushrooms are the dominant flavors in the dish. I enjoyed having the two chop stick pick up servings of this, however, for the price I'd omit this from my order for future visits here. Hanpen cheese: The Hanpen Cheese was an unorthodox fried dish. Hanpen cheese is a deep fried fishcake wrapped with seaweed and stuffed with a slice of american cheese which melts to coat the inside of the fishcake with a bubbly cheese coating. The flaky and crispiness surrounding the outside is perfect for dipping in a little wasabi infused soy sauce before biting into. This is good if you're looking for an appetizer that won't fill you, but will satiate your mouth's curiosity for flavor. Overall, Furaibo is an alright place to dine at. Get used to the small portions, because if you're expecting to get full at this place, you'll be spending a pretty penny before you feel satisfied. read more

i love this place and places like it. It combines 3 of my favorite things: Japanese people, good (and CHEAP) pub grub and the dark! Chicken wings are really as good as everyone says. Can i identify all the parts? not really, but I know theres yakitori wings, liver, a kebab style mince chicken yakitori, 2 others that are (i think) pancreas, spleen and/or kidney and other white meat sticks. Least favorite was the liver. It was irony, mineral-y and grainy. The white meat was average and well, kinda dry. I loved the squeaky chicken organs (dont knock it til you try it) THOSE were cooked well, not overdressed and they were just good. Its obligatory that you wash everything down with beer, i mean, it IS a pub. I was here last night and 2 japanese and 1 white businessmen were there and were TOTALLY shitfaced and were going off on people they hated at work...it was hilarious! It was literally dinner and a show. SO why not 5 stars? Although the waitress here is always cool, the waiter we had used to be cool but now he is shockingly indifferent to the world. Like the spirit was sucked right out of him. This isnt an offense, but dude kept rushing us and treating us like we had to eat and get out asap. That sucked. Ridiculously good chicken wings. When I first went there with a co-worker for lunch, I noticed a lot of plates overflowing with chicken wing bones. I thought this strange and even gross. I now know better, having discovered the joys of Teba. Be warned: if you're hankering for giant chicken wings breaded beyond recognition or swimming in Buffalo sauce, this place will disappoint you. Mightily. But, if you like simple-yet-divine chicken wings done to crisp, sweetish, peppery perfection, you're in for a tasty, lip-smacking treat. I love going to this place for lunch, when I can bliss out on a double Teba order for all of $7. It gets more expensive at night, but then, their menu becomes more extensive as well. A friend who lived in Japan for a few years said FuRaiBo's tapas-style dishes taste like good Japanese street food. FuRaiBo is a great place to take a group of friends so you can sample from each other's plates...and then order more of the same, plus another round of Sapporo. For biggish groups (7 -12 people), I highly recommend reserving the tatami room -- but know that they will only hold it for you until 7 pm. My unabashed adoration for FuRaiBo's Double Teba lunch special remains unchanged, despite this weakness being alternately mocked and exploited by co-workers who consider reconstructed, deep-friend chicken flesh a delicacy. read more

Taking charge, she orders her favorites. Here's the breakdown: 1) tofu salad - Tuna, tofu, iceberg lettuce, and J salad dressing. Tasty and good for you. 2) hanpen cheese - Like a McDonald's fish filet, but it's a fish cake instead with cheese inside. Tasty and not so good for you. 3) soft shell crab - Standard issue appetizer. Good, but a go-to appetizer that's hard to mess up. 4) steak - Maybe sirloin? Grilled and served with a ponzu daikon sauce. Awesome. 5) grilled eggplant in a ground pork sauce. I love FuRaiBo!!! I've been going to FuRaiBo for lunch for more than 10 years now and counting... The food is great and the price is just right. When you come here, you have to order a double teba (2 orders of wings). The wings are crispy, juicy, and very yummy. You can also get legs and thighs, but don't get a Jane (breasts). It's very dried and hard to swallow. A lunch combo costs about $8 and comes with crispy fried seasoned chicken wings, legs, thighs, or breasts, plus miso soup and salad. The place is usually crowded from Tues - Fri during lunch around 11:45 - 1:30pm. And please pay the tip generously for Akio, one of the waitresses. She's very nice. read more

They were alright, but definitely not what I would consider as "must have". One of my friends ordered charbroiled chicken, which was tender in the inside but slightly burnt on the outside.
