This was my first time trying a ma la tang spot and honestly it was an A++++ experience. I love that there were so many choices of protein, veggies, and broth. You pick up a bowl and tongs to make your bowl to your heart's content, weight ($14.99 a pound), and choose your broth. They cook and call your number when it's done. There is also a topping and sauce station for extra flavor. I had the curry broth and put lots of veggies and mushrooms and meat (beef and lamb mostly) and it was delicious. It is not too heavy (broth is not too oily or rich) and it's easy to make healthy choices here. I paid about $32 for 2 that filled us up to the brim. The lady working at the register is so incredibly friendly and sweet. The interior is clean and casual. Located in U District.

This is my first time trying Malatang, and I'm very impressed with the process! When you first enter the restaurant, there will be a stack of large, clear bowls and tongs available, and a long, sliding fridge with over 40 options of raw meat, vegetables, carbs, etc. The ingredients look fresh, are clearly labeled, and refilled promptly when low. You can take as much/ as little ingredients you want, and bring to the register to pay. The price is by pound, and depending on soup base, which is pretty reasonable. After having my food weighed, I chose a mild, spicy beef bone soup for my base, and my ingredients were taken to be cooked. My total was around $17, including tip. My food was ready within 10 minutes, and I loved the generous portion size and especially love how flavorful the broth tasted. Usually, I'm not a big fan of soup/hot pot, but this was such an efficient and fun experience! I can definitely see myself coming back to try more ingredient combinations and broths. Unfortunately, I didn't notice the sauce bar till I finished my food, and I heard that ice cream may be included when showing your receipt. I'll keep an eye for these options out next time I come!

Came with a big group of 8 (my bad I was leading a tour group lol), of course there wouldn't be enough seating for us, but we made it work! Coming in we lined up for bowls and ingredients, very simple procedure. I liked the options, but I definitely think the ingredient selections could be bigger for a malatang restaurant. Normal pricing, good options of broths, but the sauce bar was pretty small. My bowl was delicious though, and they give you free ice cream at the end by turning in your receipt. Would love to come back again.

Wanted malatang but our regular YGF was closed so we decided to try FY I was pleased with the wide selection of ingredients and everything was fresh and clean. Seating was also spacious and roomy. It was busy but we didn't have a problem finding a seat. Sauce bar had everything we needed to make our sauce. Broth was rich and I got medium spice which wasn't as spicy as I wished it would be. I would go spicier next time. I know meat at malatang places aren't the highest quality but I couldn't eat it here. it was too tough and tasted too irony. overall pretty good malatang but I wouldn't pick it over ygf

I love malatang. The spicy beef bone soup base had a very good flavor and a decent, maybe minimal, choice of items. I was surprised there was no spice level option! Almost every malatang I've been to has spice options. My favorite item they had was tendon!! I don't see that everywhere usually. The cashier and workers were very friendly and sweet, and the restaurant was clean with great natural lighting. The sauce bar was the basics but peanut sauce was a bit funky tasting. My bowl tasted great and we took home leftovers.

GOOD! The restaurant is tight and small with seating, especially during dinner, but it adds to the cozy, hole-in-the-wall feel. I love that they offer different broth options--chicken, beef, and tom yum. I usually get beef at other places, and I'd say the broth here is a bit lighter than most, which I actually enjoyed. Plus, there's free ice cream at the end by the serving window. I would highly recommend it if you're in the area.

Great selection of foods to put in a malatang hot pot! It gives the ygf malatang place down the street a run for its money! You even get ice cream after a nice bowl of hot pot! You just toss a variety of ingredients into a bowl and had it to the person behind the counter. The You pay and wait for your number to be called out. Ambiance is nice and cozy. I actually used to eat here when it was called six pack foods which was tasty and delicious. The interior is the same so maybe they rebranded

FY is one of the new malatang places in UDist but in my opinion it doesn't hold up compared to YGF Malatang. The broth wasn't as savory as I would have liked, instead it felt too heavy (like in an oil-y way). I wasn't a fan of the ingredients; they only had two fridges of items and it was hard for the queue to move through that area. I also felt like the wait was long and the tables were too close to each other. Would much rather go to a different malatang place!

Great topping, broth, and sauce selection and I enjoyed the free ice cream. The broth was slightly too oily for my liking but still delicious. The price is a bit higher than other Malatang places I've tried, but I had plenty of leftovers so it worked out!

I went! This place is pretty yummy. I do wish they had fresh noodles though, they only had instant noodles. The broths were super yummy, I got the tomato, and my friends got the tom yum and curry broths, which were also super tasty! The complimentary sauce bar and ice cream was good too!

Yum yum yum! I haven't had hot pot often nor have I had it served like this. Was so fun to grab my bowl and self-serve myself w all the fun delicious items. Make sure to get less than you think bc it ends up being a LOT of food if you go in hungry and your eyes are bigger than your stomach. Went here with my family and we all enjoyed it. Make sure to choose the right broth for you! We rated the Tom yum as the best, but I got the tomato and I enjoyed it. The spicy pepper one is SPICY so keep that in mind. It's so great that everyone can pick and choose what they want! Yum!

I really liked this spot more than I thought I would. Ingredients seem clean and organized in the self serve bar. They also have dishes for sauces so I can mix my own dipping sauce. The seating area is also nice and bright. Food came out quickly and the staff was very quickly to clean up tables. Will be back again

Good place to get Malatang around UW. Very convenient and tasty like any other spot. Sauce bar was okay. I'd come back!

Their food is just that good and the unpretentious vibe is actually quite comforting and reminds me of my childhood eating in similar stellar family-owned restaurants in LA's Chinatown. I don't think you can go wrong with any dish. I highly recommend their Pan-Fried Rice Roll with XO Sauce, Braised Beef Brisket w/ Vegetable in Stone Pot, Curry Beef Brisket Lo Mein, and their Salted Pork & Chinese Sausage Rice. My go-to drinks are their awesome Mango Smoothie with Coconut Milk and Sago and their refreshing Iced Coffee. They make such satisfying comfort food! The restaurant was lively with a moderate noise level. A simple family restaurant that puts out authentic Chinese food. My companions both ordered the Black Mushroom with Chicken Rice in a stone clay pot. Their regular meal at the restaurant. I selected the Braised Beef Brisket with vegetables in a clay pot. The two rice dishes require 20 minutes to prepare hence my Braised brisket arrived first and bubbling hot. The flavors were rich and deeply satisfying. So good that my companions plan to order the Braised brisket next time. The Chicken Stone pot clay rice bowls arrived soon afterward. My friends enjoyed their dishes. Fresh tasting and delicious crispy rice. One ordered a Milk Tea and enjoyed it. Highly recommended for an authentic meal when you are in Seattle's International district!

It was our first time having it with the peanut sauce versus the xo sauce and it was definitely different. The coconut sago drink was definitely refreshing but also a lot. Service is quick and straightforward. We ordered the pineapple bun with butter, mixed steak plate with black pepper sauce, and spare rib and chinese sausage clay pot. The pineapple bun was large, hot, and crispy with the sugary crust, although I wish the slab of butter was a bit bigger because it gets a little dry after you run out of butter. My boyfriend really enjoyed his mixed steak plate - it came with a pork steak and beef steak, steamed rice, and steamed veggies. The meat was fine but the real winner was the savory sauce! The clay pots take 20-30 minutes to cook which they tell you ahead of time, so be aware my boyfriend was about done with his food when the clay pot came out. This was a delicious classic dish reminiscent of the clay pots back in Hong Kong! I poured in a ton of sauce and it really gets absorbed into the hot rice and meat. The steamed bok choy was a nice refreshing touch. Our favorite bite was the crunchy rice at the bottom of the pot mixed with the delicious sauce. There's so many menu items that caught our eye and we'd love to come back and try it all! Hearty, delicious no-frills meals.
