This is a great place to go for a quick lunch! I ordered a bbq pork & egg bahn mi sandwich to go, and the order was ready quickly, it was cheap ($8.50!), and delicious. Best Banh mi around. Hands down. Used to come here weekly as a freshman and sophomore then COVID happened and they had some weird, inconsistent hours but I'm so excited to share it's more consistent now. I hadn't had the option to add a fried egg to my Banh mi until college, I honestly think Saigon Deli started this but who knows, all the Vietnamese sandwich places up north never had this option. Anyways, these Banh mis are a whole meal in themselves but they're an appetizer on the menu and absurdly cheap. It's crazy that these things hover around the $5 range and can fill you up. I always opt for the pork Banh mi with an egg. The bread is amazingly crunchy and buttered and then you get pickled carrots, cucumber, and cilantro. They used to include jalapenos but I'm not sure if they do anymore. I do request that they don't include it personally just in case. I mean even if one doesn't fill you up, order two and you're most definitely going to be full for just over $10. Then you look at the prices at everything else and you realize Saigon Deli is so affordable, especially for us college students, and you fall in love even more. All the larger items hover just slightly above $10 and the portions are the same as you'd get anywhere else for over $15. I've tried the pho before and it's solid, comparable to other places. Recently tried the beef bun as well and while I didn't care for it too much, it was still tasty. I think the Banh mis have won me over so everything pales in comparison because there's so many positives (value, taste, egg). For those unfamiliar, Vietnamese bun is rice vermicelli noodles not like bread bun. The vermicelli was typical but mixed with some of the sauce from the beef, it was tasty. You also get three small cuts of an egg roll to give you a taste of what their egg roll appetizer is and also add a nice little crunch to the bun. 100% recommend the Banh mi, get multiple if you have doubts. Saigon Deli is a hole in the wall restaurant, located in University District near UW. It is a hidden gem with good prices and good food. I used to frequent this place more often when I lived in the area, but after moving away it's been a while since I stopped in. However, after stopping in today I was reminded of how much I liked their food and how sweet the staff is. I got a bun bo hue, with vietnamese coffee. The bun bo hue is a bit different from what I am normally used to back in LA. I remember the lady mentioning it's inspired by the part of Vietnam she came from. The broth is deep, flavorful and just the right amount of spice. It came with sliced beef, cha lua (vietnamese meatloaf typically wrapped in banana leaf), bean sprouts and onion. The soup was nicely flavored with lemongrass. When ordering the food, it only took about 7-8 minutes to come out, so this place is perfect to grab a quick bite in between classes! They have a good amount of indoor seating, but from past experience, they can get pretty busy. They also do takeout through online ordering and by phone. Today, my total for both the bun bo hue and coffee came out to $20.34 with tax, which is pretty good considering the inflation of ave food recently. I have also tried their #18 - bun (rice noodles) with shrimp, charbroiled pork & eggrolls. It comes with lettuce, bean sprouts, pickle carrot, crushed peanut & the bun fish sauce. You can also add spicy and lemongrass (which I would recommend)! This is another one of my favorite dishes from this restaurant. This place really doesn't look like much from the outside, but step in and you'll taste one of the best banh mi's you can get in the area. I always get the grilled pork banh mi which I believe is around ($7.50). It used to be cheaper (and the original price is still on the menu) but once you get rung up it's a bit more than that due to a recent price change. Regardless, it's super tasty and fresh every time and their bread is always the perfect amount of crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I did have to knock a star though because the meat is sometimes a hit or miss where it's sometimes way too salty, and they don't fill the sandwich much at times. I've tried some of their other dishes previously but the banh mi is what really gets me to come back.
