Nice restaurant, good tasting food, nice variety menu. Salsa tasted fresh and was served cold. It's chunky, just a hint of heat, nice tasting cilantro and garlic in the salsa. The steak taco was good tasting. The steak was cut up in larger pieces and did not have gristle or fat. The meat was dry and a little spicy with the Asada seasoning they put on it but overall it was good with salsa on top. They put a lot of sauce on top so if you don't like it really wet, I suggest you order the sauce on the side like I did. The chile relleno was delicious! The pepper was very large and tender but not mushy. It was loaded with cheese! When I cut into it the cheese just flowed out melted mozzarella cheese! The sauce on top is a red sauce didn't have a lot of flavor but it tasted OK. The red sauce is mild. I poured their salsa on top which was delicious. sitting outside was very nice and clean. Visited Gabby's on a weeknight & here's the lowdown... SERVICE - Gabby & her staff were friendly. My only complaint, as far as their service, was that they had 1 server for the night. Now, I know we're still in COVID times so maybe they didn't expect to be so busy but the night we were there, they were. So, the wait to order took quite sometime & so did getting our check. Our waitress was polite & we felt a bit bad for her but there was no getting out of there quickly that night. FOOD - Food tasted great! However, my biggest complaint was how they charged us for every basket of chips & cups of salsa but the server failed to mention this!!! It was *NOT* a pleasant surprise when the bill came. We felt ripped off. Was it expensive? No. Could we afford it? Yes...but we would've appreciated being told upfront that they charge for these items because 99% of other Mexican restaurants DO NOT! read more

I called and talked to a wait person who took the time to let me know what was available. I saw a sign about fish tacos,but they were breaded. Stumbled upon this place in Murphys on my way back from Arnold . This place is situated in a cute little town I had just discovered with Wineries for wine tasting on the same block. The restaurant offers indoor dining and there is an outdoor patio for outdoor dining with shade. The staff were friendly and provided helpful suggestions while we were deciding on how much food to order. Given it was a hot day and we weren't so hungry, but wanted to try their food, we went with sharing the molcajete and had some michaladas which were all very satisfying and perfect amount of food. Stayed in a little cottage on Jones st and this restaurant was steps away. Saw the decent Yelp reviews and decided to give it a try. It's advertised as a Mexican restaurant but they have an eclectic menu. Being Mexican and having access to authentic Mexican food I was not looking to eat Mexican food on this trip. However, saw and read about the alternative options. I ended up having the lobster ravioli, which exceeded my expectations. I was skeptical give again, that I am in a "Mexican" restaurant. It was good, great sauce and the bread and butter were good too. The only negative was the jalapeño margarita that was advertised as a special item. Worst margarita I've ever had. This restaurant offers a full menu of Mexican dishes as well as a separate menu of Italian dishes. I wasn't sure how authentic the Mexican dishes were, having seen pasta on the menu, but while we looked over the menu they brought out another tables food and I saw and smelled it and instantly wanted to try it. They have really good Micheladas here, which is a tomato based beer cocktail with tajin, cucumbers, and shrimp on the rim (if you aren't acquainted, think a Mexican version of Bloody Mary, and see my photos). I had mine with Modelo. For food we ordered the Molcajete. I had never tried this dish before, but everything in it appealed to me. It's basically a large bowl of spicy Rojo (red tomato based) sauce with beans, topped with grilled carne asada and chicken, cactus paddles, and grilled green onions and jalapeños, arranged to hang over the bowl into the sauce, and topped with cheese. It is served with tortillas. Highly recommend. The food was great, and our waitress took great care of us! I hope to visit again read more

We were in Murphy's for the Irish Days Celebration weekend. Be warned that this event completely overwhelms this beautiful mountain town and most businesses in it. I guess we were a little taken back since this is a reoccurring event that you can prepare for. We had a reservation for 6:30 PM. The restaurant was very busy and looked like a tornado had rolled through it. When we checked in the waitress said they had been overwhelmed through the day and even with our reservation we would have a 30-40 minute wait to be served. She added that they had went through their prepped foods and were cooking to order which would also add to the delay. It was very obvious that the restaurant had been overwhelmed by just looking at the place. Unfortunately we had made a reservation here and it would most likely be near impossible to walk in anywhere else due to the event weekend. So we stuck it out. The two younger female servers were very polite and did their best under the circumstances despite being very tired. Everything came as a hodgepodge for our party of six. We started receiving Waters and drinks at the table around 7:15 - 7:20 PM. Very few chips and very little salsa. They definitely were stretching their chips and salsa, which were both very cold. Our meals arrived part and parcel around 8:05 - 8:10 PM. I had the soup of the day and a Cesar Salad with grilled shrimp. My soup was served nice and hot and was very tasty. I wish I was given a soup spoon rather than a teaspoon to eat it with. My salad was served chilled and my grilled shrimp were nice and hot. It was a good portion and the Caesar dressing had excellent flavor. Unfortunately nobody else in my dinner party enjoyed their meals, describing the Mexican food as average at best. One person in my party had spaghetti and meatballs which he felt was okay. He shared a meatball with another person at the table who could not eat it because of the taste. Overall our experience, service, and food was not good. We were very surprised that the food was average at best. Except for my soup and salad of course. My wife and I still tipped our waitresses 20% because we felt sorry for them and they maintained smiles despite customers pulling them in every direction. I do think things would be better if you tried Gabby's on a non-event weekend. read more

My entire family went to Gabby's and let me say everyone in our group of 8 loved it! My husband is Mexican and I'm Italian. When we saw Gabby's we had to try it. Maybe it was the evening we were there (it wasn't super crowded though), or our server, but we had terribly slow service. 30 minutes for the drinks to show up, missed orders, mixed up orders. We were a party of 7 but we didn't order any substitutes or anything out of the ordinary, so I'm disappointed with the service. However, the food was fantastic. By far the best Mexican food I have ever had! The fish tacos were AMAZING. The rice was perfect and fluffy and the beans were so good and creamy. We enjoyed a nice michelada as well. Worth coming here for the food after hiking the Arnold Rim Trail! read more

The waitress at one of our tastings recommended this place for a quick lunch and I'm so glad that we checked it out! We were going to eat Italian for dinner so went with the Mexican options for our lunch. I split a veggie burrito with my sister and it ended up being the perfect amount of food. Our waitress was lovely, though a bit frazzled due to being the only waitstaff and serving multiple large parties at once. Everything I tried from other's plates was also delicious and when I return to Murphys in the future, I'll definitely make sure to stop in again to try more of their offerings. read more

Had the immense pleasure of lunching at this wonderful Mexican restaurant in Murphys, Ca this past Sunday, February 28. Our first visit to Murphys, a quaint town in the gold/copper country near the western foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains. We were seated inside (proper covid situation) and immediately taken care of by Carston, a high-school age young man who was friendly, clean-cut, well spoken, attentive, and loaded with a low-key but vey appealing personality. He returned to our table several times to check up on us and deliver things like extra napkins and drinks. Our server was Jimena, also friendly, engaging, well spoken, and helpful and attentive. She appeared to be late teens maybe early 20s -- hard to tell with the mask on (smile). Turns out she is the daughter of the owners, and also off the charts on the personality scale. I have been eating in Mexican places all my LONG life, and the food here was outstanding...starting with the killer salsa and seemingly homemade chips -- just perfect. Never had better, and there is a difference in even salsa and chips from place to place. Ordered ceviche (shrimp) which was made fresh, loaded with lime juice (yeah!), and as good as any I've ever had -- a bit different from some I've had, but just delicious and perfect. My super (loaded) pork burrito with green sauce was scrumptious, and large enough that half of it went home with me. My woman companion (my sweetie pie, actually!) had some special ground beef nachos and also said she'd never had better. A terrific place you should not miss -- great food, great people, and reasonable prices for a major tourist location (Murphys is that). read more

This is meant as constructive feedback. Nice people and rooting for them. And you can definitely satisfy your hunger here at a good value. But. So much be desired. The Mex Italian thing throws you off from the start. The chef and staff are clearly held back by an unfocused menu. We ordered fajitas hoping to get the sizzle effect. Instead, first came rice and topings well before the fajitas. The lettuce was a tad wilted. If you focus your menu you can specialize and have stricter freshness standards for fewer ingredients. But we're hungry and we had to look at our toppings for at least 5 minutes before the fajitas. Then, phew the fajitas came. Hot but no sizzle, steam coming off. This is the major miss. We had to watch our fajitas sit for another 5 minutes before getting the tortillas, no exaggeration. Felt like 20 in that situation. Frustrating. I watched the steam slow off our fajitas to barely anything. Then our nice warm tortillas finally came. Would have been cool to have an option to buy more too. We weren't in any one waiters care. Different people cycling through. Ceasar salad doesn't have a creamy dressing so that catches you off guard. Waiter should warn you. Didn't taste like a Ceasar. Took forever to pay. Drink refills were not our original diet coke. It's just a chaotic concept. You need to pick Mex or Italian. You serve mash potatoes with Ravioli? That's not Italian. Have to be careful with names. If you're doing a fusion or mix, let customers know. Can't use established labels and then bait switch when your concept is different. Staff were very friendly but just overwhelmed even though the restaurant wasn't packed. It's still worth going here for the value, friendly staff, and awesome patio setting. But just be ready for an adventure. read more

Friday night dinner for 6 and they were short staffed. Our amazing waitress was absolutely wonderful though and took care of us and every other table in the place with 2 young busboys to assist. Food was excellent, cocktails were served with minimal delay and of course unending supply of chips and salsa were kept on the table. I had supreme burrito in red sauce and wish I had room for the whole thing - didn't want to stop eating it. Hubby had tamale and it was perfect. Not sure what the others had as my eyes were focused on my huge meal. Will be back again VERY SOON !! read more
