We were in the area over the weekend, and we decided to take my girlfriend's parents here for a little lunch. Turns out we left with much more! We ordered a few things such as as the duck prosciutto sandwich, raw oysters, clam chowder, and the absolute star of the show, a side of the spicy habanero garlic butter! The bread for the duck prosciutto sandwich was amazing. I just wish they put more meat and/or fixing because the sandwich was on the smaller side given the price tag. Tasty for sure, especially dipping the sandwich into the garlic butter. Oysters were super fresh, and wouldn't hesitate to order again. They have a bunch of jams and hot sauces that you can buy to take home, along with pre-packaged habanero garlic butter (which we ended up buying and have been putting on everything we've been eating). Definitely recommend picking up this butter for at-home cooking because it adds a nice layer of spice to any meal without being overly spicy. For the jams, there's so many options and the staff was kind enough to do a jam sampling with us and after tasting we ended up with a jar of their padron pepper jelly. Put it on my sandwich at home, instantly elevated it to another level. Staff from start to finish was a 10/10. Very kind, super attentive, and made us feel very welcomed. Yes, like you, I was concerned about trying to eat fresh oysters, and lobster rolls this far from the ocean. This place cured those fears and I would have no problem. Recommending this place to anybody who likes oysters and lobster rolls. We had identified the restaurant prior to arrival in the town and we were lucky enough to have it be only a two minute walk from our Airbnb. We wanted for nothing, as the service was very good. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, made suggestions, and willing to go the extra mile for us as we kept re-ordering additional food. They had many different specific oysters to choose from and they grilled them or served them raw, depending on what you preferred. As it turns out between the four of us eating, we had it both ways and they both were special. It was a beautiful evening and so our group of four decided to eat on the table right on the street. Visiting Calavares Park for Memorial day weekend so happened to roll through Murphy Ca. Saw this place with a very interesting menu so wanted to try. Honestly really wanted to try oyster but the other stuff was calling to us. Had lobster roll. Your standard roll. Decent price came with chips. Nothing crazy here, a good size roll with plenty of meat. I had a Bayonne - which is a duck prosciutto grilled sandwich. I thought this was really good. It have a little bit of carmalize onion or something that balance the salty meat well. Though it was gone pretty quickly. The spot is also a CBD store if you're into that kinda stuff. Our family of six really enjoyed our afternoon at Murphys Grade. Oysters were so fresh and yummy. I like the sauces that came with the oysters, especially the jalepeno one which has a nice kick! The kids enjoyed the smoked halibut and bread while the grownups enjoyed some drinks and seafood. I really liked the lobster roll too, plenty of lobster meat in the roll. They had some interesting CBD drinks on the menu. I convinced my parents to try some. I can't try it since my company does random drug testing and I don't want t risk my job. Service was great. They kept checking in on us to see if we needed anything else. We were only there for an afternoon snack and so didn't order that much. The ambiance is nice and chill. Bathroom was clean. Oh my goodness--these lobster rolls are incredible! I meant to snap a photo before digging in, but they were so delicious I forgot until I was halfway through (see photo!). Truly indistinguishable from the ones you get in Maine--and that's no accident. The owners are from New England and they absolutely nailed that authentic flavor and texture (The bun is grilled to a delectable crispy perfection on the outside!). Gah! Murphy Grade After a morning exploring the local caverns, we stopped by Murphy Grade for lunch, and it hit the spot! The place was busy, but we were excited to try some of their popular dishes. We live in Copperopolis, about 40 minutes from this resturant. Searching for a lobster roll we drove down to Napa and tried a highly rated resturant. What a joke it was. Our friends AND the owner of Murphys Grade jumped on our Facebook post to comment on our search to find a good Lobster roll. So the next day we headed over and gave it a try. Holy shit, lol, what a difference. Murphys Grade was leaps and bounds better than the Napa restaurant we went to. I can't believe we are so lucky to have a local restaurant that delivers such wonderful food. A fkn + Ok, so we got 2 lobster rolls, one Garlic butter and one regular butter. Both Note worthy! Do not hesitate if you like Lobster, they are very full, excellent rolls. Alsothe chips that come with it are a perfect addition. We also had hummus with bread, it's very good, and well portioned. I got a dozen roasted oysters, and they were also good. Customer service was excellent. I think the owner, and 2 or 3 different servers checked on us numerous times. But their timing was really well placed, not like sometimes when you have a server just hovering over you. They did excellent. Was a great experience and the way food service should be. ASTONISHING ***MICHELIN-STAR*** CLAM CHOWDER...AND MORE! My wife happened to look at me right at the moment I took my first spoonful of the clam chowder. She seemed alarmed, and asked if I was OK?! I was frozen in *shock* and disbelief at how magically *perfect* it was! I immediately put my spoon down and walked over to talk to the very nice chef-owner, who works in a small kitchen behind the bar, making every single thing to order on her own, as can plainly be seen by all the customers in the restaurant. I told her that I had always loved clam chowder, and I had had *lots* of excellent versions while visiting my daughter, who worked at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston for three years. But THIS clam chowder was something else entirely---a Michelin-star creation of subtle flavours that still allowed the clams to shine through and remain the star attraction! I asked if it had tarragon, and she smiled slyly and then nodded! We have been blessed to own a cabin in Big Trees for 16 years, but somehow we didn't hear about Murphys Grade opening up, so this was our first visit. Only half-joking, I told the chef that I now realized I had wasted the last four years of my life! We also had the grilled oysters, which were plump, wonderfully fresh and utterly delicious! Finally, we also shared the porchetta sandwich, which, like the clam chowder, was simply the best we had ever had! As others have said, ALL of the staff were wonderfully friendly (in a genuine way!) and extremely helpful. We didn't try any CBD items, however, we did get some beer from the self serve beer bar (accessed with a "key") and enjoyed some oysters on the half shell - wow those were some fresh and tasty oysters, what a surprise in a mountain town! The waitstaff and owner were just fantastic as well, happy to help and happy to be there. They close kind of early, maybe that's why the employees are happy - work their hours and then the rest of the evening is theirs! Would definitely return here every time we pass through Murphys. Oysters! Oysters! Oysters! Of all the places, this was the last place I thought I would find delicious oysters made a number of different ways, and each way, just as tasty as the last. We decided to grab a few drinks and sit outside and enjoy the barbecued oysters. This was definitely a perfect way to enjoy being outside. The oysters come in a variety of cooked or raw options, and can be purchased in various quantities. You seriously can't go wrong with any of the options, and I would say go for it and have all of them lol. The lavender lemonade kombucha was a favorite. I opted for a nice ice, cold glass of water, since it was warm out, and the oysters and I did not mind. Prices are a tad steep, and while we enjoyed sitting outside, the chairs are not comfortable whatsoever. So if you're planning on dining outside, or just grabbing a beverage, don't plan on staying long, because the discomfort of the seats will kick in fairly soon. Wow! While visiting my friends in Angel's camp, they brought my girlfriends and I to Murphy's Grade on the main drag in Murphy's . Well, let me tell you, I had the most delicious oysters ever! I really love the Pacific Northwest oysters, and Katinka had them in several varieties. I usually love Kumamoto. I had those, but I also tried one I've never had, the Shigoku oysters. They absolutely blew me away so fresh, so cold and with lots of brine. They were served with traditional mignonette as well as a ginger variety. So absolutely delicious that I forgot to take a photo! The service was impeccable too. Katinka and the servers were very hospitable and warm. The wine and beer selections were superb and greatly complimented the oysters. The clam chowder is certainly notable as well as gluten-free to boot! You'd never know it! We didn't have the charcuterie as we had already finished eating but it was gorgeous. We were told that every accoutrement was made in-house. I'll have to order that next time. The environment was super unique and very cool. There was a gorgeous serpentine-shaped bar where we could easily converse together and observe the food prep. There are also higher top bar tables for dining and drinking as well. Murphy's grade is also a shop for fine medicinal CBD products. Katinka also has some beautiful crystals there and like those, this place is a "gem" and a must visit while in Murphy's! The oysters are very good they have raw, barbecued, and even raw ones with a vodka chaser those are my favorite. The service is always spot on.
