Had the immense pleasure of lunching at this wonderful Mexican restaurant in Murphys, Ca this past Sunday, February 28. Our first visit to Murphys, a quaint town in the gold/copper country near the western foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains. We were seated inside (proper covid situation) and immediately taken care of by Carston, a high-school age young man who was friendly, clean-cut, well spoken, attentive, and loaded with a low-key but vey appealing personality. He returned to our table several times to check up on us and deliver things like extra napkins and drinks. Our server was Jimena, also friendly, engaging, well spoken, and helpful and attentive. She appeared to be late teens maybe early 20s -- hard to tell with the mask on (smile). Turns out she is the daughter of the owners, and also off the charts on the personality scale. I have been eating in Mexican places all my LONG life, and the food here was outstanding...starting with the killer salsa and seemingly homemade chips -- just perfect. Never had better, and there is a difference in even salsa and chips from place to place. Ordered ceviche (shrimp) which was made fresh, loaded with lime juice (yeah!), and as good as any I've ever had -- a bit different from some I've had, but just delicious and perfect. My super (loaded) pork burrito with green sauce was scrumptious, and large enough that half of it went home with me. My woman companion (my sweetie pie, actually!) had some special ground beef nachos and also said she'd never had better. A terrific place you should not miss -- great food, great people, and reasonable prices for a major tourist location (Murphys is that). read more

Friday night dinner for 6 and they were short staffed. Our amazing waitress was absolutely wonderful though and took care of us and every other table in the place with 2 young busboys to assist. Food was excellent, cocktails were served with minimal delay and of course unending supply of chips and salsa were kept on the table. I had supreme burrito in red sauce and wish I had room for the whole thing - didn't want to stop eating it. Hubby had tamale and it was perfect. Not sure what the others had as my eyes were focused on my huge meal. Will be back again VERY SOON !! read more

Good food. Kind of a long wait to get the food but it was still good. I'd recommend getting the super burrito instead of the regular burrito as the regular burrito is still big and pretty dry without the sour cream and guacamole that you'd get in the super burrito. The Molcajeta was super cool and unique and the whole fam loved it. read more

Awesome place! Great food and prices were very reasonable for the Huge portions served. Lite, upbeat atmosphere, witnessed lots of take out orders while we were dining in. Very creamy refried beans, rice was a little dry but everything else was delicious! The only thing I would change is the desserts. If your going to be authentic please to all the way. Offer Handmade Sopapia's with honey or whipped butter and jam or fresh Carmel Flan, Churros stuffed with cinnamon and sugar and the rolled in powered sugar and a dipping sauce. This is one of those "best kept secret" eating joints. It's a ma and pop family run restaurant featuring Mexican/Italian Cuisine. Gaby and husband Tomas hail from the central Mexican city of Pachuca in the state of Hidalgo. You will notice that the dishes are flavored somewhat different if you are used to the TexMex boarder flavors. Try it you will like it. Sat outside which had a nice seating area, very friendly and prompt staff. The reason for one star was the food was terrible. My husband and I both had enchiladas (I had chicken, he had pork). I cannot stress this enough. It was awful. The enchilada red sauce tasted like red sauce out of chef boy-r-dee spaghetti-O's , the meat like it came from canned dog food. They were also small. We both left feeling uncomfortable and physically miserable. Wish we could give it a better review. Disappointing. read more

I'm not one to write many reviews but I feel this one is worth it. We (wife and 2 kids and I) stoped here on our way home from the mountain for dinner. We got chips and salsa just after we sat down, typical of a Mexican restaurant but the chips were homemade which made them even better! We ordered the taco salad with carnitas, steak fajitas, burrito and side of rice and beans. Everyone absolutely loved the meals. Great location and a even better family run restaurant. If your looking for some home style Mexican food this is the stop to make. Relax and enjoy the slower pace of Murphy's before getting back in the car. The Mexican food is amazing here. No joke! We had the specials and the Molcajete was something we've never had before. The refined smokey sauce was amazing! This place was delicious! Homemade corn chips were really good and their salsa had amazing flavor. My parents ordered the fajitas and said the meat was super tender. My son had fish and chips and I had a taco salad with carnitas. Both were very good. Staff was friendly and super helpful. However, I noticed the one kitchen staff I saw was not wearing a mask! I'd feel a bit better if she had one on. I'd eat here again, but I would check to make sure all had masks on. read more

Here for Irish days for lunch party of 6. Recently refused seating at another restaurant that was filling their iPad with names but leaving tables empty in some cases for over an hour. Walked to Gabby's talked to the very harried young lady behind the counter about lunch for 6. They were slammed but took my info and 10 minutes later we were seated. Long story short Gabby's adapted to the tsunami of customers and an hour later we were fed and the waitress got a 35% tip. Good food. Great service. We came in on a Saturday at 2 pm and they did not tell us half the menus wasn't available until we tried to order. All the Italian food was not available including the Caprese and antipasto salad because the cook did not know how to make it. Seriously? There is no cooking a Caprese salad, it is easy to make. We got water that tasted sour. We asked if we could substitute the beans and rice for anything else including guacamole or even just sour cream and they told us they could not do it and it would be an extra charge. That, I am sorry is stupid. People eating low carb diets don't want beans and rice. A suitable substitute should be available. read more

What an amazing find! We were in Murphy's for our anniversary and stumbled upon Gabby's for dinner. We sat on their cute outdoor patio, perfect as the sun was setting. The service was AMAZING and the food was DELICIOUS! You wouldn't think to order a steak at a Mexican restaurant but my Aunt and Uncle did and it was pure perfection! My husband and I split the fajitas and the flavor was great. After dinner they brought us a dessert and wrote Happy Anniversary on the plate... so sweet! This is a family owned restaurant - we were lucky enough to meet the owners (my uncle insisted on talking to the chef haha). We love supporting mom and pop places and Gabby's makes it easy! Cute decor but the food is overpriced. Not authentic, my taco salad had canned refried beans. Not authentic, really, I mean how hard is homemade beans? Portions too small, I left hungry. The chips and salsa was good. Service was good. Carnitas were tasty but not enough food. Seviche was oddly tomato-ey, never had it that way before. So pass on going here. Wow!!! I was so so pleased and blown away with my experience!! The service was exceptional and the food was stellar! I'm big on customer service and both the waitress and waiter were top notch! Went to Gabby's on Sunday night only two other tables in the restaurant we waited over 20 minutes to take our order then a half hour later the waitress came back and said did I take your order yes and she ran in the back room apparently she forgot to give our order to the cook. half hour later we received our food it was terrible it was bland The chicken in my enchiladas was diced I'm over 60 years old and I've never had diced chicken in a enchilada it was tough like dog kibble and tasteless shame on the cook for serving such a horrible meal. Gabby's is a delight. The service is great, the dining room is nice, and the food is to die for. My personal favorite is the shrimp in creme sauce, camarones en crema. When I use my wife's tortillas to mop up the last of the creme sauce, it's a good sign. Not only do they have a complete Mexican menu, but an Italian menu. I wish I could get by more often just to see if the Italian is as good as the Mexican. Maybe we'll drive up there tonight, it's worth the 10 miles. read more

While visiting Murphy's we saw a sign that said chicken mole enchiladas. I love mole and was not disappointed. It was super delicious. My friend got the chicken crema and she loved it. Chips and salsa were noteworthy too. Our server was efficient and friendly. read more

A cute little place, and I want to love it, and will give it another go in the future, but tonight they missed the mark. The staff was friendly, but somewhat inefficient. There were 3 of us, and the other 2 each ordered the same item, with the only difference being one was with onions, the other without. When brought out, one was made with the incorrect tortilla requested. My order was also wrong (in a way that was clearly a kitchen error). Mistakes happen, I understand that, and I don't mean to be overly harsh, but when 2 of 3 orders is prepared incorrectly, something isn't working. My friends both loved their dishes (and mine as well, when they tried it after I declined to eat but a few bites). Mine was well prepared, just not what I'd ordered or enjoy. Food came out frozen. They took it back and microwaved it for us! There was lipstick on water-glass. They changed it for me, after I drank half a cup. They apologized for the mistakes and were prompt in giving us extra salsa, chips, hot sauce.. but I didn't know they would charge for EVERYTHING (even salsa). Ate at Gabby's for the first time and it was excellent! Sad to see we were the only ones there on a Monday night but enjoyed eating on the patio without a crowd. I ordered the Pollo con Creme and the sauce with the onions was delicious!!!! Portion sizes were great! My son ordered the chicken fingers with fries, nothing fancy but he ate almost all of it. At Gabby's cuisine you can find delicious, authentic Mexican food! It is a hidden gem that my boyfriend and I found and we are so happy we did. Brian's favorite, a mole dish, was savory and complex, with just the right amount of sweetness. Chips were crunchy and salsa was fresh. I also loveeed the Mexican flan and michelada sea! I order the ceviche menu said chopped shrimp, cilantro, cucumber, tomatoes and lime juice. The shrimps were whole and the sauce they were in was too sweet.
