The food is exquisite and the specialty cocktails delightful, with a bit of humor in the naming. This is my fourth time back and I must say each meal has been unique and fabulous. I've had the flounder, the duck and dumplings, a risotto dish, and tonight oh my! the gnocchi. Each dish has an array of interesting components, a work of art. I am a lifelong resident of Charleston and not a tourist. Went for lunch the day after Christmas. Very slim choices on the menu. Shocked we were charged for refill of coffee - two people, two cups of coffee, $20. Food just ok, nothing to write home about. Pasta dish serving more like an appetizer. VERY disappointed. Love the high tea and the ambience though. Won't go back for any meal. If you want a delightful lunch, head down to the Palmetto Cafe at Charleston Place. As gorgeous the hotel itself is, that is as bad is the service at the restaurant. While I understand the country is dealing with understaffing, our group of 5 had the following issues: -while being listed as one of the top brunch locations in Charleston, breakfast was not available, only lunch -one persons lunch (salad) came out 20 minutes before everyone else's meals. -Of the other meals, my Eggs Bennett were ice cold, and while the steak was cooked as asked, it also was cold. -chicken breast sandwich was greasy as anything and the white meat it stated was dark meat -during our long wait, we had to flag down waiter to get more champagne for mimosas. If food is delayed, you need to keep drinks rolling. I had really high expectations for a great high-end brunch and the service was seriously disappointed on food and service. 0 stars read more

A HUGELY disappointing experience in admittedly beautiful surroundings. We were in Charleston on a bachelorette-and-birthday trip, and the service at this restaurant ruined our one night out. Our bride/birthday girl was visibly upset and no meaningful actions were taken by the restaurant to improve the evening they ruined. We were a group of eight with 8:00pm reservations on a Saturday night. The restaurant was busy but far from full, and we were seated immediately when we arrived at 7:50. That was the highlight of our time at Gabrielle's. 9:45 comes, and we've still not been served dinner. We've also only been offered one refill of drinks, no refills of water at all, and one basket of bread. All inquiries about our meals are answered with "soon" or "a bit longer." At that point, one of us (me) goes to find a manager, and is left waiting at the host stand for ten minutes. Just about 10:00, the food and manager finally appear. One dish is burnt to the point of being inedible and all other meals are lukewarm at best. I ended up having to pull the manager to the side, to stop her from talking to the whole group and further delaying everyone's dinner. She apologized and offered to "make it better" with a second drink for the bride and a dessert for her birthday. Which would have been great, except the dessert NEVER came. We weren't even offered to order dessert. We were presented the bill, with no discounts, no comped meals or drinks, and not even an apology from the server. And we didn't see anyone again. The bride was very excited about our second destination for the evening, another part of the plan she didn't get to enjoy thanks to their poor service: our mediocre dinner had taken so much time that the next place had closed before we were able to get in. Went here for brunch. Hotel was decorated beautifully for the holidays. Got the eggs "bennett". It was pretty good. Meat was seasoned well, my eggs were a little undercooked. Overall not bad at all! Our server Natalie was really great and friendly. Food also came super fast. read more

I had banana pancakes with bacon and coffee. This is truly an upscale eatery with the five star service to go with it. The pancakes were very good tasting and not badly priced for breakfast here but what's not priced on the menu but you can still get it a la cart is bacon and highly priced or rather overpriced I think with that being said it's a real nice place to eat breakfast read more

We went here with 16 people for a bachelorette. They sat us quickly which was nice but the drinks were so bad, and we had this blonde server who was SO rude. They accidentally charged us 2x for the drinks. The blonde service is awful. She lowkey was mean and abrasive. However every other person was sooooo kind. It's sad how one employee can ruin the whole experience. I think her name is Chelsea??? After spending $1000 here on drinks with my friends, for someone to carelessly say rude things is so sad. I would give all other employees 5 stars, but Chelsea (or whoever the blonde girl is) should not work in a customer facing role. Boo. read more

We looked forward to getting back to Gabrielle restaurant in the beautiful Hotel Bennett. We were greeted, promptly seated at a table and our server Mathieu took our drink orders and presented us with a menu. He was very helpful in describing the dishes and we made our choice. We opted to share and started with a plate of Mussels in a fresh tomato, shallot and garlic infused broth with a grilled baguette. They were very fresh and flavorful and we quickly finished them dipping the bread in the excellent broth! Our next course was a grilled pork chop with a peach reduction sauce and local vegetables. Very tender and delicious! Dessert was Opera Cake for my husband and a Lemon meringue tart for me. Both desserts were good although I would give the Opera Cake 5 stars! We ended with two double espressos---a perfect finish! The dining room here is very elegant and with simple furnishings. The service was exemplary with attention to cleanliness, removing and supplying flatwear and plates for each dish. As a server Mathieu was very knowledgeable, efficient and personable! read more

Gabrielle is one of my favorite restaurants in Charleston. Everything that I have tried on the menu so far has been delicious and unique. They have been very consistent in quality every time I have visited. I like the atmosphere and feel of the inside as it is very Charleston and also feels comfortable and nice at the same time. It was a special occasion for us, our 25th wedding anniversary. We made them aware of it. Our server was stiff and not personable. We started with the shrimp cocktail and roasted oysters and they were good. My eggs Bennett were supposed to be poached but were served soft boiled. The bernaise sauce was heavy handed/sloppy covering the entire plate and not well seasoned. My petite filets were not tender or well seasoned. My husband left hungry because his short rib was improperly represented as being lean and could be eaten with a spoon, when in fact it was so fatty and gelatinous he couldn't eat much of it. His side of diced potatoes were burnt. Nothing of our Anniversary was recognized by the end of the meal. I don't mind spending a lot on 5 star food for a special occasion such as ours, but this left us feeling disappointed and ripped off. read more

My parents, my wife, and I ate at Gabrielle for the second time tonight, and the service was impeccable! We were greeted, promptly seated, and given gracious attention throughout the meal without the feeling of being intruded upon. After some hiccups during our visit at Thanksgiving, the manager invited us to return. She could not have been more gracious and accommodating. Our server for tonight's dinner was kind, knowledgeable, and on the ball. The entire meal from ordering drinks to the delivery of our courses was seamless and perfectly timed. Soon after ordering we were brought a delectable amuse bouche of potato leak soup with curried oil and salmon. We were checked on several times by members of the staff, and even the servers assistants were charming and attentive. The star of the meal was dessert. Our server brought the cart of options and gave excellent descriptions. The truffle, my choice, was exceptional. It had a firm shell and velvety chocolate interior. My wife's lemon meringue tart was truly exceptional. From the pastry shell to the tart lemon curd, my wife said it was the best she had ever had. In a town with so many restaurants, it was nice to feel valued as a customer by a restaurant which is clearly striving to make a name for itself. read more

I predict Gabrielle will become a spot frequented for the special occasion birthday, anniversary, bachelorette dinner or an important work event or because, well - indulgence. Located in the newly opened Hotel Bennett, the hotel is a sight to see. The two doormen almost fought to get to our Uber to help us out of the car and eagerly asked if we needed any help. Almost as an afterthought, we asked where the restaurant was. As one said, "Sure, it's....", the other interrupted with how we "must visit the rooftop" and all the things it had to offer and when he finally took a breath, I asked the other if the restaurant was there and he said no, it wasn't and he'd take us. This unbridled enthusiasm was the hallmark of the evening but sometimes provides superior service, as intended, and sometimes is a doorman up-selling you when you just want directions or one of the waiters staff taking your plate away, even though you said you weren't finished. But the food - OMG the food. Full disclosure - I love the food in New Orleans. Chef Michael's tenure at Galatoires is a marketing point and justifiably so. The balance of flavors, the sauces, the precision, the love, the decadence. Two of us were taking a third for her birthday dinner. We were seated off to the side in their room with padded walls (they must have researched my reservation) we decided to order as a group and share everything. What a great decision. We had the escargot - the sauce for that is so intoxicating that our friend who doesn't like snails wished he had tried them. The oysters casino, and the caviar were spectacular. We ordered the lamb journey (on the menu it reads like it would feed a legion, but is appropriately portioned). The quality of the mean and that each part of the lamb is cooked as if it were a sacrifice to a deity of 10,000 years ago is the best way to describe my joy in this dish. The Red Snapper Barigoule (I just had to google barigoule) was a piece of perfectly cooked snapper on a bed of artichoke hearts, fennel, onions in a sweet basil broth. After the fish was gone, I could have eaten the entire dish as a bowl of soup but was restrained by embarrassment. The fresh bread was so good and three different types of baguette at that. Do not miss dessert. Just don't. Our server Ron was fantastic, especially since he and just been emasculated the week before by the local newspaper food critic. While the service is still getting its sea legs as they've just opened, (we had to ask for out wine list back at least twice, as if they only had that one and had to shuffle it from table to table- hint- if you offer to leave it with us- we'll order more wine)everyone was authentic, friendly, welcoming and really striving to make everybody happy. Chef Michael came out at the end of our meal and chatted for a bit. I confess to having a weakness for chefs who do that. He was friendly, down to earth, so open to hear about our experience and just oozed his love for his craft, the food and his restaurant. Who doesn't want to eat with a guy like that. read more

Three couples hoped for a memorable Valentines day dinner at Gabrielle and it was... but for the wrong reasons! On arrival for our 7:00pm reservation, we were informed that there was no valet parking available, and closest lot was five blocks away. The Valentines day menu was limited fixed price (expensive) however it turns out that they had already run out of the first item (soup). From this point the inattentive service deteriorated further to the point that we had not been served our salad by 9:00pm and the manager refused to meet with us. We got up and left the restaurant. Charleston has many excellent restaurant choices, as far as we are concerned, this is not among them. read more

We stopped in for a cocktail as we do from time to time. We sat in the bar and ordered two drinks. Our waitresses shift was over and we decided to close out and start with a new waitress. Which she was pleased with. We waited over 20 minutes with empty glasses. The three waitress stood at the side of the bar gabbing and looking over at us. They served every table except ours. We were the only same sex couple and they refused to wait on us. I finally flagged one down. She looked at the other two and acted as if she didn't want us. Finally one of the three got the terrible task of coming over. I explained what happened and she immediately got rude and defensive. She cut me off and rudely asked me what I wanted. I asked for a manager and she glared at me and left mid sentence. The manager was lovely and offered us free drinks but the waitress in question glared and made faces at us behind here manager. We decided that a free drink was not worth being treated so poorly. We always felt that this establishment was a safe space, but the staff are clearly not interested in same sex couples. I recommend avoiding at all costs. What would have been nice is if the waitress had said I am so sorry. There must have been a miss communication and then taken care of us. She did not. She had no interest in being kind. This was not five star service. If this is the staff they keep it will not be one of Charleston's best for long. read more
