Price was actually less than many fine seafood establishments I've been to. This all should be no surprise. You don't make it 107 years by doing it wrong and overpricing. Top notch. 5 star experience at Gaido's today, and a special shout out to our waitress Shalinda, who was fantastic. Our part of 5 adults and 2 young children visited at 1:00 for lunch. We were early for our reservation, but seated quickly anyway. Our service was excellent - couldn't have been better. The food was fantastic. We collectively ordered oysters on the half shell, sautéed crab claws and the avocado crab as appetizers. Entrees included the pecan crusted fish with hollandaise and crab, red snapper michel with crabmeat buerre blanc, the grilled seafood combination, and crab stuffed shrimp. This place does not deserve a 3.5! It should be rated a 5. The food is absolutely wonderful and delicious. We got the snapper, bone in ribeye, bisque, and oysters. Every dish was impeccable just as the service was. We got three desserts and the berry sauce that comes with some of them is to die for. We haven't been here since 1987, but it was a favorite back then. Today we were delighted to find the service and quality remains absolutely delightful. Our waiter, Marshall, was friendly, helpful, informative but not in an annoying, fake way, as some places are. We started with the Calamari which was amazingly light, sweet and fresh. A wedge salad was more than enough for 2 and the homemade dressing was perfect. I enjoyed hot, fresh and sinfully rich crab stuffed shrimp. The portion was so large I gave almost half of it to my husband. He enjoyed Red Snapped that he said was "absolutely perfect". We were sadly too stuffed to enjoy dessert, and coffee was as much as I could manage. The food and the service were absolutely perfect, we were allowed to dine leisurely by our attentive waiter (Marshall) but never neglected or wanting for refills or condiments. Super delightful to find this place has retained their polish. We won't wait another 30 years to return!!! read more

We went to Gaido's last night and they were on point! The service was great- seated immediately. The manager came over to chat with us and make sure we were good. The drinks arrived right away and I'm partial to the Ciroc berry martini. The salad with the chunky blue cheese vinaigrette is always divine as were the shrimp pegues. Of course, the seafood is always fresh and in season. We loved the oysters Bienville! The ambiance was calm with slow jazz Christmas music and low lighting. We had a wonderful dinner!! We just had the best dining experience! Our server, Celine, was friendly from the start and so personable we were immediately comfortable. She not only explained the menu but told us the history of Gaido's when we expressed interest in the decorations. She provided excellent recommendations, which we listened to, and it was one of the best meals we'd ever eaten. We shared with each other to have a taste of everything and it was all delicious. Generations of my family has been coming here for years. Gaido's never disappoints. We've had a number of items in the past. Crab claws in any form are always amazing. But this last trip we had the crab topped cheesecake. Cheesecake!? I did the same. But after reading what was in it I was intrigued. Ricotta, crab, almond butter(?), shortbread crust. The sauce reminded me of a mole. It was incredible and I will crave it for the rest of my life. read more

I have not been to this restaurant since I was a young girl. At least 20 years! Me and my family come to Galveston at least every 6 months.... normally hit the same spots but so glad we broke the cycle and went back to Gaido's. Now mind you we we're dining with a 2 year old that was beyond tired and a bit challenging as well as a senior with a strong opinion about his gumbo. Gabriel was excellent! Immediately addressed my concerns of getting the baby a drink and bread quickly to keep him busy. Was able to give my grandfather a small taste of the gumbo first before he ordered a full bowl. The dirty martinis were perfectly prepared to my request. I ordered the sautéed crab claws and blue pointe oysters for an appetizer. For our mains, we had soft shelled crabs and a seafood trio..... needless to say, everyone was pleased with the meal and service! We will be back and asking for Gabriel.... he made our last meal in Galveston a memorable one. If I had to give any constructive feedback it would be to management about the smell in the lobby and small cocktail area before you enter the main dining room. It was NOT a FOOD odor. We have loved Gaido's for 23 years but had an extraordinarily great experience yesterday! We noticed traffic backed up for mikes leaving Galveston as we entered the causeway & became concerned about leaving the island. We expressed that to the awesome Julie as she seated us. She talked to everyone on staff and returned to our table w/ instructions on how to get home without sitting in 4 hour traffic. She also brought us complimentary shrimp cocktail, oh my heavens, & was ever so gracious. We had a fabulous dinner that was not on the menu but a special request & everything from the artisan bread, house made honey pecan dressing & spectacular sides to a special dessert was perfection! They presented me w/ a huge dessert play with "Happy Birthday" written in raspberry sauce. Truly a fine dining experience!! read more

After 40 years of dining there, I walked in at 11:40 on this Sunday with my wife and was told there was no seating available all day except for the 5 seats which were taken at the bar (and 2 of them were 'reserved'). Very smug attitude, there were many servers in the dining room and we'll under 1/2 of the tables were occupied. Now enjoying the friendly atmosphere and delicious foot at Landry's. read more

I came here for my 19th birthday and another time after that and both were great experiences. The waitstaff is great and the restaurant is historically classy. It's definitely the gem of Galveston. I remember this was the first place I had oysters on the half shell and absolutely loved it. To this day I still compare all raw oysters to this place. I was always told by my grandfather that gaido's was a very good seafood restaurant and it might have been back in the day but things have must have changed over the years because when I took my son there the other day we were both very disappointed in the size and quality of the food. Very small portions and overpriced for what we got compared to some other high end seafood restaurants. The waiter was very friendly and professional and the restaurant overall was nice and clean but there are better choices to go if you're looking for good seafood that won't break the bank. read more
