We had the charcoaled ribeye and the ribeye tacos. They were both excellent. The charcoaled ribeye was mid-rare as requested. We also had the Arancini, which was excellent. The sauce was very good which is surprising for a restaurant. Mari was our server and she was very friendly and knowledgeable and sweet. Overpriced and BAD. $40 for a tiny buttered lobster roll w rubbery lobster in a minimal amount and also stuffed into a mini hot dog roll that was also full of LETTUCE (I never see this as a garnish or recipe) to compensate for the abysmal amount of meat. Clam Chowder was gummy and no fresh taste.Came out looking with a skim on top which made me think it was old dished up and put under a heat lamp and I could hardly taste Clams - just cream and veg, that weren't;t even good. Cost a fortune for bad food. SKIP IT!!!!! The lobster was a tiny amount, sweet but definitely overcooked. In fact everything tasted reheated. Picture this... it's 3:15 on a Saturday afternoon and this place has no one inside OR outside the restaurant. It's 4th of July, so that's a red flag in and of itself. Mind you, NONE of the tables were being used at the time. As we had spent about 5 minutes at the table and were finishing our donut, this atrocious and rude individual rolled out and decided to demand us to leave. It wasn't an awareness of, "looks like you are finishing your donut, if you wouldn't mind leaving asap, that would be appreciated". Nope. It was, "these are our tables and you need to leave". We were finishing our donut... no one around... sitting at a filthy outside table, of which we had no clue (we are tourists) belonged to his restaurant. Testa's gets a solid 4! We came here on Mother's Day and the place was quite empty. We got the blueberry margarita and I could have had about 10 of those. Yum!! Super flavorful and a generous pour. I got the rib eye tacos and my husband got the haddock ones. We both liked the haddock better. The rib eye was chewy and kind of a weird choice for a taco. The view is nice. This place has a really good breakfast and quick service. My husband and I have enjoyed this spot every time we try it; it's in a great location right downtown and a few steps from the park. This is a great little spot for a quick bite before you get on the trolley or do whale watching. I've had lobster benedict and lobster oscar here, and both are delicious. After a week of fantastic seafood in Bar Harbor, we found the break that we were looking for at Testa's. While their seafood offering was formidable, some Italian staples were what my family wanted. The ambiance of the outdoor seating was fantastic and a perfect night to be outside. Our server, Guillermo, was amazingly attentive and made some great recommendation. The chicken parm and Alfredo were fantastic. A nice potion, al dente noodle, and a very generous chicken breast that was very tender. The manager was also present and attentive, made some other recommendations around the area in Momo's Cheesecakes, and gifted us a few samples from Graffiti Donuts, as we were on our way out of town. DO NOT patronize this place. The worst experience in my 20 years of restaurant experience (including bartending and corporate training) and as avid diner of all types of cuisines and at all kinds venues. 3 of us stopped in for oysters on HH and were promptly seated. We wanted to sit at the bar but, there weren't 3 seats next to each other so, we ended up at a table right next to bar. The server greeted us and was very pleasant. He took the drink order and hadn't brought anything out when bar seats opened and we asked him to move. The bartender was extremely rude and said "no-we don't allow you to move tables". We even offered to pay out with server and she copped an attitude and again said no. Since she had a bad attitude anyway, we decided to just stay at the table. We ordered oysters and a few other apps. The drinks came out, 2 mixed cocktails and a glass of Meomi Pinot noir. Immediately, the wine drinker said the wine smelled a little vinegary. Upon tasting she said it was absolutely old and had us taste it as well. It was awful. Everyone at the table is an avid wine drinkers and know the difference between a bad wine and spoiled wine. We called the server over, explained the wine had turned and asked to change it for another option. He turned to the bartender who was overhearing the conversation and she snapped "I just opened the bottle when I poured that glass". You just don't know what you ordered and don't like it". We explained we are very familiar with Meomi and it's actually one we regularly drink. The server was uncomfortable and said "we aren't allowed to take things off the bill so you have to pay for it even if you don't drink it". WHAT? Craziest thing I've ever heard. We asked him to go get the manager. After a few minutes, the manager came out and said "we can't take it off the bill just because you don't like it". We explained the wine was bad. The manager said "that's not what the bartender said". So basically the bartender had lied about why we were sending it back. The manager asked to see the bottle she supposedly just opened. She pulls it up and it's almost empty! When we pointed out she lied about just opening it, she realized she was busted and said "maybe it was yesterday". She clearly had no idea when it was open. The manager then told us she isn't allowed to take items off the bill without the owner approving. Fine-go tell the owner to come out. She went to the back and then came out again and said "the owner doesn't drink wine so they don't know if it's bad or not". Ummm-maybe take a wine class when you own a restaurant?!? The distributors offer them for free for gods sake. The manager was apologetic and told us they can't take things off the bill no matter what because the owner says "people are scammers and just try to get things for free all them time". We hadn't even drank it so not sure what we were trying to get for free. Long story, they don't care about the quality of what they are serving or the guest experience. The manager did personally remove it as she agreed we weren't trying to "scam" anything. I hope she didn't have to pay out of pocket. We paid for the remaining balance of food (which had come out while this was going on and sat there getting cold) and drinks and left without finishing anything. It wasn't worth allowing their poor attitudes ruin what had otherwise been a great day. We went back down the street to Barnacles. The oysters and service are outstanding and worth every penny. Went into Testa's to a very very very small population. Immediately the large dude gave me the nastiest look. When I sat down there were dirty menus and dirty plates. It took me about 10 minutes to get a waiter and even longer for water. Keep in mind I'm like the only one here. He brings me my food and it had MOLD on it also might I add, someone's hair was in it. We were camping in the area and saw a review for Testa's on RV Life. We made a reservation for after a big hike in Acadia National Park (you don't need reservations but they will take them!). We were seated outside right next to heaters... score! We were promptly greeted by our Server and she was attentive throughout the night. My husband ordered the Taste of Maine (it was about $45 I think) - it had a HUGE lobster, clam chowder, mussels, claims, corn and potatoes. He couldn't finish it all. The service by Sam was a phenomenal. We were a party of eight and we sat upstairs and had ample room to both eat and people watch. Sam and his team gave us plenty of water and drinks to stay hydrated . His recommendation on the chowder fries was amazing. I wanted clam chowder soup and didn't know that I would get satisfied by eating thick cut steak fries with a blend of chowder soup, chives and bacon on them. They were a hit. As for my main, I had an excellent grilled haddock ala eskovitch. This was one of the best tasting fish dishes and accompanied veggie vinegar sauce I've ever had. Spicy and refreshingly tasty. We went to Testa's a little weary as the yelp reviews weren't fabulous. However, I'm so glad we still went! Everybody I was with (which was 6 people) loved their meals!! I would absolutely go back. To start we got calamari and it was so fun having the mix of vegetables within. The sweet Thai chili and ranch was a perfect balance of spice and flavor. Definitely order as a starter. I got the lobster tacos, and boy were they yummy. I couldn't get over the blueberry and pineapple salsa. The tacos had a hefty amount of sauce as well, just the way I like it! David got the halibut and had me try it. It was amazing and so fresh! Definitely recommend upgrading to the fries as well. They were so airy and delicious.
