I normally don't give reviews because I'm lazy. But I had to get off my duff to thank Dave at Garage Door Basics. My old as the hills garage door broke a spring and came off the rails. I was in a world of hurt as the garage door is the inly way in and my car was in there. I should not have tried to lift the door but with great effort I was able to open it and get my car out. I called Dave and he was here the next day. He replaced the spring, cables and rollers in a little over an hour. I can open the door with one finger now. My very heavy garage door was making unnatural and loud sounds when opening and closing. The door is so heavy that it scared me to think of a person or car in its way if something happened and the door fell. After a particularly labored and loud opening yesterday I noticed some struts separating from the wooden door. I searched Yelp and found a local, family-owned company with excellent reviews. I called on Wednesday, reached Dave, and was immediately scheduled for Thursday afternoon. Dave came, fixed what was loose, and did a general service of my garage door. He pointed out that whoever installed the springs did not install the correct size for the weight of my door. But instead of recommending I buy expensive new springs, he tightened these and told me they would be fine until they aren't. He said all springs break, and when these ultimately do, at that point he would replace them. When he was finished, he asked me open the garage door and I have NEVER in 16 years, experienced such a smooth, quiet silky opening. I am a customer for life. What an amazing company! I used someone else a few months ago, and they totally ripped me off. When the door stopped working again, I called that other company and they never called me back. I called Dave at Garage Door Basics and he came within a few hours. He was so fast, so polite, and so honest... he explained that the other company installed the cheaper/smaller springs, which is why my cables didn't work properly now. He could have recommended to change it all out, but he didn't. He explained that the small springs would eventually break, and he could replace them at that time. I was told by another garage door company a year ago that my garage door was too heavy and was straining the motor and spring. I wouldn't let them replace the door. Then, the problem worsened and I called Garage Door Basics. Dave got back to me the same day and came over the following day to take a look. I had told him I probably needed a new door. However, he told me my door wasn't too heavy, it was perfectly fine. My system just needed to be "tuned up" and cobwebs cleared off of the sensors. The whole job took under a half hour. My garage door would not close. On inspection, I noticed a panel was bowed because there was a crack on the inside at the top of the panel. Oh no, what to do?
