I moved into our house about 5 years ago. It came with a garage door that couldn't be opened all the way. When I manually reset up the upper limit of the door, the rail snapped and almost broke the entire thing. Can't say enough of the great responsiveness and attention to detail. Dave came out same day to take a look at my Dad's ancient garage door. While he didn't have the right springs with him, he tried a stop gap measure with what he had. It wasn't strong enough so he replaced the original springs until he could order the right parts. My garage door was not able to close and the motor light was blinking. I looked up Garage Door Basics from Yelp and decided to give them a call because of all the good reviews the company is receiving on Yelp. Dave picked up the call and kind enough to help me troubleshoot the issue on the phone and asked me to try realigning the sensors as most of the time that is the problem. He even sent me a video so I can follow through to check it myself first. Unfortunately I was still not able to get it to work after following the Instructions. Then he came over in less than an hour later and helped fix the issue quickly. And sure enough that was due to the sensors not being aligned. He even helped check the condition of my garage door and taught me some basic knowledge how to troubleshoot garage door and remotes as well. And best of all, he didn't charge me for this visit! However he noticed my garage door was slammed to ground when it was detached and the motor was slow. Dave is the best. Our garage door main spring broke and made the heavy wooden door completely unmovable, trapping my car within. My garage door motor died, with my door basically stuck halfway open. When I called John he gave me a detailed quote for replacing the motor, and had a guy out there quickly. At the last minute, we decided to hold off on the motor because maybe we'll just remodel the whole thing. I mean literally last minute, like right before John's guy got there. I called John to explain, and offered to pay him for a basic service call. He was totally understanding, and had his guy do their normal service. His guy, Elmer, was totally professional and nice through the whole thing. John was really nice about it, not even a hint of (very justified!) annoyance. If we do end up keeping this a garage, we'll definitely have John and his crew install a new door and motor. He had to reinforced that supports the frames by putting struts across, replaced the spring for added weight, and new motor. They are very reliable and easy to deal with. I totally agree with other reviews that Dave is both professional and knowledgeable. I called and explained my garage situation with him that my door wouldn't open because of a broken torsion spring. He came the same day and for an assessment and told me that spring should have lasted longer than 3 years. The garage spring that was used was not the correct spring and that a larger spring would need to be used. It took a couple of days to special order the spring and Dave replaced the broken spring.
