Not only did he talk me through it, but he also sent me a YouTube video on how to fix the sensor issue for my garage. The type of customer service I received is what we need more of in this world. When something happens to the garage door, it's so scary that I freak out. I mean, you use it every day, often several times. And you need to get your car out of the garage! So when the garage door wouldn't close completely, I freaked out. I called Dave at Garage Door Basics, and he got back to me right away. He basically texted me a "how-to" on how to fix the problem. Be careful & get multiple quotes if you don't want to pay DOUBLE MARKET PRICE! I reached out to Garage Door Basics because they were local (lots of great reviews), & my garage door was inoperable (with both cars stuck in garage). After Dave replaced both springs (a 20 minute job) he gave me price of $725.00. Startled by such a high price, I questioned his bill. Dave then stated, "didn't you get my quote?" After I said "No", he checked his iphone & said, "Oops, I sent it to the wrong person, & that he'd give me a solid (10% discount.)" I gave him my credit card & we parted ways. Still feeling dismayed, I called 3 other garage door repair companies, who gave me significantly less expensive quotes: $300, $300, & $350. I then called Dave & expressed my dissatisfaction with his massive bill, as his price was more than double my other quotes. He proposed to remove his work, & give me a full refund, as he could not "afford to do business at my lower quoted prices." I accepted & he removed the 2 springs the following day, & said he had processed a full refund for me (via credit card). After 8 days, & not seeing refund on my credit card app, (along with notifying Dave multiple times of no refund appearing), I have filed a dispute with my card company. Basically, I should have taken the time up front to get multiple quotes (or at least a quote from Garage Door Basics) before commencing work. I sent an email on a Sunday asking for a call back on Monday. Dave responded by email on Sunday giving me his cell phone number and asking me to call Monday morning. I reached him on another job and he asked me to text my address and said he would come by that afternoon, which he did. He assessed my worn out Genie door opener as needing to be replaced, which I expected might be the case since it was at least 20 years old. Dave recommended a Chamberlain unit that is super quiet with battery back up. It has a five year warranty on parts and a lifetime warranty on the motor and belt. It appears to be high quality and is Wi-Fi compatible. He showed up and installed it the next day. The total cost was $1085 including installation and adjustment of the existing spring.
