I was told that they would look at the broken springs and then provide an estimate before moving forward. Normal stuff for any repair anywhere! 22 minutes after they arrived, they were finished. And for 22 minutes it was $495. Yep, nearly five HUNDRED dollars for a spring. Nope, I wasn't happy. I was NOT told how much it would be - seriously, at these rates one could retire at 45! - but the smug choice I was given was: "Well, we can just remove the new springs if you don't want to pay." My mother needed to be driven somewhere, so you already know I paid!! Grrrrrrrrr. When my ancient garage door died, Dave responded quickly and fixed it so that it is better now than it was before it broke! My house is old. Like over 100 years old. And my detached garage is probably close to that age, with an old fashioned, flat, heavy, wooden door. Recently, I've been doing a lot of renovation work to the house, so the garage has been getting a lot more use than normal. No surprise, then, that the hinge on one side gave up the ghost. Since Yelp has been helpful with other projects, I hopped on and filled out a request for quotes. Dave was the ONLY one of FIVE companies who didn't give me an immediate "No, we don't do those." More than that, though, he responded quickly, and even though he was hella busy, he made time to trek out to my house and look things over. Not only did he know exactly *how* to fix things, but he pointed out that the springs were also in need of replacement, and he was able to place the order for the additional parts and get them in less time than I could have on my own. When the parts came in, he replaced all the hardware and got everything balanced so that the door works better now than it has in years and years! The best experience. I have had terrible luck with our garage door. It failed around 6 months ago, it was after hours and I called a company as we need immediate service. They charged an arm and a leg and at the time I felt like I was being swindled because of the after hours emergency. Well the same failure happened again last night. Today my bf was going to work when the garage door stopped working. It was half up and half down. I tried closing it, and looked around to locate the exact issue. The cable on the right side snapped. It seems like the wire had possibility come off the roll, got caught, snapped and derailed the garage door AND even shifted some of the track. It was a cluster-fuck. Hahaha.
