Garbo's is such an amazing spot to dine at on a hot summer day! We checked this place out maybe like 2-3 years ago and loved it then, still love it now. The outdoor seating is SO AUSTIN the picnic tables, the play area for the kids, the tarp that offers shade from the hot sun, and of course, the string lights. We sat indoors this time around and also ordered an appetizer which we usually don't do. The staff are so warm, you get to taste their beer if you'd like which my husband did even though he ended up with a blueberry soda and I opted for the Lemon Meade, basically a spiked lemonade. Appetizer: Mozzarella & Lobster Bites 10/10 Tiny Ball Bites that are so addicting and perfect to ease the hunger before the entree. Great portion for 2 people! Entree: Connecticut Lobster Roll with a House Salad My go-to, my favorite! The lobster is so fresh and buttery and the roll itself is nice and warm as you would want it to be. I usually go with the fries, but glad that I did the side house salad instead. It was a good portion and a nice option to balance the fried bites, the bread, and butter! Delicious!! We finally came to eat here and I wish we had just gone sooner. The fish and chips here are delicious, my husband would say it's the best he's ever had. The portion size is huge! The cheeseburger is also really good. I love the fries here we ate everything on our plate. It didn't stand a chance. The inside is so cute and there is a great waiting area. The dining area is smaller on the inside but it's very nicely done. We've gone to Connors creamery often but it was nice to be able to enjoy dinner and also get dessert from there. Food: The fish and chips is fantastic with super moist and tender fish that is lightly breaded with a crisp batter alongside crisp tender French fries. Tuesdays have a discount on the fish and chips for almost half off! Warning - the full sized version is huge and be ready for leftovers. I haven't had a chance to try the lobster rolls yet, but this place is known for their lobster! Drinks: The grog is delicious and brightly fruity with a good fassionola syrup throughout that's not the typical artificial junk. I've also heard good things about the long islands that are not just pure well liquors designed to make you sick. Service: Super attentive and fast. I think my food came out within 10 minutes on a Tuesday afternoon. HH: 3-6 pm Tuesday-Friday that includes small bites and half off drafts, draft cocktails, and bottles of wine! I've been to Maine in the summers for vacation the last few years so I was excited to take my travel partner to Garbo's for lobster. It was horrible and rubbery. When I called manager told me a month ago that we could see the live lobsters during the summer months. Today the hostess said I could too when I called. Then when I got there the waitress said no and got very weird. We were excited when the lobsters arrived but when we cracked open the rock-hard shell, the meat was rubbery and the cross section of what is supposed to be a good claw looked very off. see pic of the box of lobster and fries I took home to my animals (see pic of take home box). My friend thinks these have been previously frozen or not handled correctly. My friend sent her whole lobster back bc she didn't want to give it to her animals. It is a Sunday and we found out there shipments are on Thursdays and Mondays. We got charged $40 for a lobster I fed to my chickens. The waitress and manager were not helpful about it either. I never leave less than 20% tip but had to leave just 10% after the aweful lobster and service. So sad, Garbo's! read more

Awesome spot for lunch today, but I am sad to report I am ABSOLUTELY in the dog house for coming here without my wife. We drove by yesterday and saw the name and it stuck with us (genius marketing perhaps). It looks unsuspecting from the outside but the inside was so cool and the food was delicious! The Caesar salad was amazing and the croutons were some of the best I've ever had. I tried the Connecticut (warm) lobster roll and it was perfect. You could taste the seafood without it being overly buttered or drowned out by other ingredients. They really let the seafood shine and it was perfectly balanced. Pricey, but good! Austin doesn't have a ton of seafood places and my wife really wanted to go here, so here we were. Love the decor and ambiance - warm and bright, kid friendly outside and staff is kind. We got a lot of different things to try. Calamari is very good, well fried and fresh, not chewy in the least. The mini lobster roll special is a great way to try lobster if you don't want a lot of it, but still a bit pricey. If you want classic, go Maine, but since my wife is adverse to celery, we got the Connecticut, which was warm and buttery. Lobster bisque is creamy and has some chunks of lobster in there too (but very pricey for a cup). Fish and chip is also huge and a steal on Tuesdays for half price. The fish is flaky, moist, crisp batter fry. Tartar sauce is great to dunk things into and the fries are good, though could be crisper. All in all, great place, albeit pricey. My review for Garbo's is bittersweet, coming to this restaurant made me realize that i am not a fan of shellfish nor New England cuisine whatsoever. Starting off the environment was amazing , the outdoor seating is the best place on a nice day. Secondly, our waiter (who was also a bartender) recommended us the most popular items the restaurant had to offer. Since me and my wife hadn't been out to eat by ourselves in a while we decided to indulge in fried calamari , her a spicy crab roll , and a lobster roll for myself. The spicy crab roll is indeed super fresh as well as the lobster roll. The bread on the lobster roll was high quality and the crab roll was no different. Just the quality of the rolls themselves let us know that this was going to be a high end meal. BUT and it's an emphasized BUT, if you CANNOT HANDLE FRESH shellfish or shellfish alone i do not recommend this place. Although the rolls were decent i would have rated the lobster a 6.5/10 due to lack of flavor and the crab 7.6/10. The calamari was the best thing we had there at 8.6/10 with their specialty sauce! Lastywe decided to order oysters.... I myself hadn't had oysters up until this point. At the time i would rate them a 7/10 due to me being a texture person but about an hour later i was DYING . I don't know if it was an allergy or just me not eating fresh seafood in a while but i will say i prob will not consume any raw fish for at least 15 years... and I'll leave it at that. All in all our experience here is give a solid 8/10 minus the sickness i experienced WHICH could have been from my body not being able to handle raw shellfish. First time being there and from the start until the end the service was nothing short from excellent. The woman in the front greeted us with a genuine smile and was very attentive to our needs. Our server was very knowledgeable, gave us prompt service, and checked on us without overwhelming us and also making sure he stayed on top of his services. I came here for the Fish n Chips Special on Tuesdays. It's $12.99 - which I think is where the right price point should be, so if you want to try their Fish n Chips I would suggest Tuesdays. The normal menu price is $22 (wha???). Yeah 22 bucks. I think 3 months ago (May-ish) it was $20, so prices went up. Must be that covid-thing again. It's clean in here, the greeters were nice, it was relatively busy here on Tuesday. I just went for the bar, put in the order and my Fish n Chips came out timely which is a plus. The dish itself looks really good. Lots of Yelp reviews said the fries were superb. I'd say the fries were good - not awesome - but still pretty good. The fish? Meh. A downer. It was meaty but slightly dry and very bland tasting. Plenty of salt on the outside coating, but the fish lacked seasoning and depth and was very plain. It was like I was eating something w/o any of my taste buds working. I was disappointed, but I would have been more disappointed had it been $22. The tarter sauce is made in-house, it's got a slight vinegar taste to it, I really liked it. Just an FYI - - I went on a Fish & Chips Gemba in Dallas this past July and hit up 2 well-reviewed places which were located in pretty high end areas (Downtown and a North Dallas shopping area). Their Fish n Chips prices averaged $15-17 plus the quality of their product was a notch better. None of them were in the $22 range. Now I would pay 22 bucks for Fish & Chips, but your product has to be premium quality and phenomenal, and that would also keep me coming back consistently as a repeat customer. Unfortunately that's not the case here, and $13 is just about right. But I'm still glad I came here and tried it. Also - you can sub-in Brussel sprouts for additional $3. I did not know that ahead of time, it's not written on the menu, but I saw quite a few customers doing that. I mentioned this to the bartender, but since I already got my dish she just offered to charge me the full $8 for Brussel sprouts as an appetizer. No thank you. Why would I pay $5 more for something that's a $3 upcharge substitute? I was displeased with that conversation, I just felt there was more interest in pushing for more sales and a bigger bill than pleasing the customer. How's the Oysters? Well my friend went there on Wednesday, they do the $2 oyster special. She got a dozen and said they were very small and underwhelming. She left and bolted for Long John Silvers (wha??) to fill the rest of her belly (2 extremes - yeah). I'm just glad she took a hit for the team. Service there for me at the bar was spotty and inconsistent. My bartender disappeared for a while, so I had to grab the other bartender, he was responsive and more attentive. I keep them at a 3-star instead of a 2-star rating ("could have been better") because they did offer up the $12.99 special which I think is the right price point, plus it was clean and the bartender dude filled in the service gaps. Another bonus here - they have that soft serve ice cream trailer out on their porch and it's pretty solid. We got to Garbo's around 1:30ish on a Saturday & it was not busy at all. Weather was nice to sit on the patio & they are dog friendly which we love! We got Oysters (pretty pricey for one $4.00) and my husband loved them. Super fresh! My lobster roll was good, buttery & warm. I was upset with the size a bit. We've been to Boston (Maine Lobster) and the prices are similar but their portion size was more reasonable. I don't except food to be heavy or a lot, but I did think it was small for the price tag. Brussel sprouts were very good, loved the fried onion crisp on the top! Our waiter recommended the banana pudding dessert & it was VERY good! Perfect to end meal... We tried this on a Friday night and it was a pretty light crowd. Several friends had recommended it. The service was great and very attentive. The food on the other hand was pretty mediocre. My wife had the fried shrimp which were right out of the institutional box, small, and overcooked. I had the fish and chips which was once again, right out of the freezer box, and soggy with the breading completely off the bottom. It was served over a bed of equally soggy French fries. One very important thing to note is on Tuesdays, they have a special for the fish & chips. I believe it's about $12 bucks vs $20. So that said, my fish was good, but not worth $20! It was very bland, also lacking season. However, when I did try it with their homemade sauce it tasted much better. Finally made my way to this place and I was blown away by the amazing experience. I was nervous trying to go to dinner with 4 people on a Friday night about 6pm when they do not do reservations unless you have 6 people or more, but we were given a solid 30 minute expected wait time and basically right on the dot we got our table. We were able to order drinks while we waited and hung out at the bar. They had a great range of draft options on tap. We closed our tab with our wonderful and attentive bartender. We were seated outside on the patio with fans and nicely spaced tables. There were lots of families but the noise level was low to average even close to the kids play area. Our outside server was wonderful as well and went the extra effort to make a few jokes and be personable. We had a half dozen of both types of East Coast oysters which were extraordinary and so fresh. We also ordered the fish and chips, which was huge! $20 and definitely can be shared between 2 people! It could have used more fish inside, but overall was tasty and filling. The Lobster Mac and Cheese was the can't miss item that we ordered though. Wow that was great. Our food came out pretty quickly for how busy it was, but we had the perfect amount of time between our courses. The house made tarter sauce is so yummy. The design and ambience make you feel like you're visiting a costal city. Everything is clean cut, but slightly "weathered" looking to give it that ocean feel. The manager also said she was sorry about intrusion of personal space. I want to emphasize that the incident I experienced was not just an intrusion of personal space, but harassment. The waiter Brunce S repeatedly touched me without my consent, and that behavior was completely inappropriate. It is not just about personal space--it's about my body and my right to feel safe and respected in any environment. No one should be subjected to unwanted physical contact, and this behavior crosses the line into harassment. The place is cute, it feels like you're on the Coast. Super fun. They also have a big patio. You get to pick if you want Connecticut or Maine style Roll, and $14 seems fair to me. The only thing I would say, is that they could make the AC a little warmer - it was pretty cold in there. Valentines Day offered a special menu for some of the rolls. - The oysters were delish according to hubby (I don't eat them) - We got the lobster bisque ($9) and wow, huge pieces of lobster in there, so worth it. I loved it. It was a big bowl though, and I probably could have gone smaller and enjoy my roll even more. - The rolls has caviar on them for VD and omg, MORE please!! So good. This was our first time at this trendy upbeat restaurant located just off Mopac and Parmer. It is fairly spacious with a large outdoor seating area that is mostly, but not entirely covered. The first thing that arrives is an old milk bottle filled with water. We started off with a couple of drinks and the calamari. The wife ordered the red snapper ceviche, and it was wonderfully fresh and delightful. The fish and chips came with a very large plank of cod although not that many fries. The malt vinegar was a nice touch We actually ordered an extra side of fries to make up for the loss. One positive thing we noticed is that salt is not the primary ingredient here. They have a decent craft beer menu, but they do not have frozen margaritas. The only shortcomings that I saw was the order of calamari is smaller than what you might expect and the mixed drinks are about 6 ounces in size, or less and $12. First time visit with my family this weekend and was very disappointed. The patio is nice and our waitress was great but the food was a massive letdown. The food is considerably pricy, their famous lobster roll nearing 30 dollars for a pretty standard portion. With the prices set at what they are I guess we were expecting some pretty solid seafood but the lobster meat we got in my roll and my wife's Mac and cheese was on the overcooked side. There wasn't a ton of cheese in the Mac and cheese and the kettle chips I had with my roll didn't seem different or better than a bag of cape cod chips from the store. We spent over 70$ for our small order and were not pleased with the quality at all. Unfortunately we probably won't be returning. On the plus side Cameron's Creamy attached is very good for a traditional soft serve ice cream. read more

We can only go so long without our lobstah and chowdah fix so we went recently to Garbo's where we know that both will be excellent. Once again, the place is so clean and inviting that it gleams. The staff is nice and polite and, of course, why we go there is still consistently good. I was in the restaurant busuness for thirty years in Massachusetts so I might be a little more picky than some people. One thing that I would expect in a place like this is a floor manager to oversee everything to ensure customer satisfaction. If there was one on duty, they weren't visible last Friday afternoon. We might have ordered a second glass of wine and it might have been nice to clear our first course dishes. One thing that I have learned is that restaurants can't run themselves. Over a period of time, small issues become large issues and large issues can destroy the best concept. Employees do their best with some sort of supervision. read more

Maine: which has mayo, celery, seasonings served cold on a roll or the Connecticut roll which is lobster poached in butter and served in a roll. I loved the CT roll and the boys seemed to like the Maine roll better. The fries served with the rolls were crisp and delicious. We got one of the rolls without a bun - no real gluten free items listed on the menu and my husband really wanted the lobster. Was served on a lettuce leaf and seemed to be the same amount of meat. I know some reviews are complaining about the size of the rolls. I thought they were good. I wouldn't say they were stuffed, but they weren't lacking and paying $22 seemed reasonable to me. Amazing place for dining with young kids. We came in there around 5:30pm and didn't have to wait long. We had 2 infants and the staff was very nice to accommodate us. The vibe was very refreshing and marine-ish. Food was good, my husband ordered the lobster roll and I ordered chips and fish. I never visited their original location even though it was in my neighborhood. I'm not the biggest lobster fan, so keep that in mind when reading my review. First visit, my friend tried both lobster rolls, lobster bisque, and wine. She LOVED them both. I tried her lobster bisque & it was really good. I ordered the adult grilled cheese and a margarita. I liked it. I have to admit, the patio is what brings me here, not the cuisine. I was a huge fan of the previous tenant and I miss having more vegetarian options. The thing that keeps this from getting 5 stars is that there are no drink specials. I really wish there was a happy hour. This patio is so great, but I would be here much more often if there was a happy hour. Second visit, my friend ordered her favorite roll this time. I tried the lobster Mac & cheese. I was not a fan. I ended up giving my lobster to my friend. If I try this again, I would make sure I order some butter to dip the lobster. But again - I'm not the biggest lobster fan, so I'm not a good judge of it. My friend thought it was divine. Third visit - super bummed they removed the adult grilled cheese from the menu. That just makes me want to cry. Even the restrooms were clean and stocked with the necessary essentials. Although the food was delicious, it didn't really stand out to me. But I guess it is what you are comparing it to. We ended up here for an impromptu dinner with friends a couple weeks ago, and rereading what we wrote last time...pretty much nothing has changed. The outdoor space for kids is still awesome and the back room still has subarctic temperatures. Do something with the thermostat, folks! We stuck to beers this time, and the selection is still a good one. The side salad that came with the crab sandwich was positively sopped in dressing, but we loved the sandwich itself, especially the kick of spice (good amount of crab, too). The lobster grilled cheese was only OK, exactly as it sounds like and the fries are still way too stubby. Give the people proper-length fries! Our kiddo was happy with her fish-n-cips, and again, the parchment paper in the to-go box is always appreciated. We love the Connor's Creamery ice cream, but there needs to be a better system of getting it to the table ASAP because they were all half melted by the time they arrived. Service was pleasant and quick. We're landing on three stars rounded down from 3.5 only because we saw the same own-goal errors of last time, and feel like this is an establishment that can and should do better. We were excited to try the lobster roll here. Server recommended the warm buttery Connecticut over the chilled Maine. We ordered drinks and an appetizer, the lobster and mozzarella bites while waiting. Pina colada wasn't frozen but served over lots of ice. It was good but more drink and less ice please for $14. Our appetizer never came and we were served out entrée. We reminded server about our appetizer. Lobster roll wasn't bad but it says "poached in butter and seasoning " it seemed very dry. Should have asked for some butter. Salad was good with the champagne vinaigrette. You get a choice of fries, salad, jalapeño coleslaw or kettle chips. My bf sd his lobster was overcooked. Lobster bites were just ok for $19. Mainly cheese and hardly any lobster. Our lobster roll plates were $32 each. Bf not impressed and said he's not coming back. Food wasn't horrible but for our bill of $121, we expected better. read more

Husband and kiddo like lobster rolls, and in Austin husband feels Garbos is ok for lobster rolls, he lived 2-3 years in Boston, so wherever he eats lobster rolls other than Boston and Maine, it's always just ok to him But our kiddo loves it:) Kiddo prefers Connecticut style, husband Maine.
