My family had an amazing dinner last night while sitting on Lake Winnipesaukee! Service was delightful!

Worst service we've ever had at a restaurant. We were seated by a window right away, which was very nice. Off to a great start! Menu had a few nice options so we were happy. It went downhill from there. It was not busy but we waited about 10 minutes for our first contact with our waitress. We ordered the calamari for an appetizer. It took longer than expected to come to the table. People who were seated after us were already getting their food. When the calamari arrived, my husband and I said at the same time, "that looks sad. " it was a tiny portion of very chewy calamari on a large plate so it looked even more ridiculous. The sauce was ice cold so if the calamari was warm to start with (it wasn't) it was now very cold from the sauce. We waited another 30 minutes for the waitress to come back to our table. We were about to just get up and leave when she finally showed up with our entrees. $19.99 for the world's smallest clam roll (that was now cold). we asked for ketchup for our fries. One would have thought she would just bring ketchup to a table that was having fries but, nope. Another 5 minutes to get our ketchup and also had to ask for refills on our drinks (she never asked us if we would like more even though our glasses were empty. Also, no free refills on fountain drinks!) The service was terrible and the food was mediocre and overpriced. That was the first and last time we will ever be going to Garwoods! read more

The oysters Rockefeller is amazing, I've had it every time I've gone for the past 4 years. The wait wasn't too long and the entrees were very good and had a variety of options. Definitely would recommend. read more

Went for dinner on vacation and waited 15 minutes before we were approached by any staff and we had to call them over. The waitress was not friendly at all and the hostess was just as unfriendly! The food was overpriced for what you get! We will never return to this restaurant. read more

Went in on a Friday afternoon. The place was dead. I ordered calamari. Greasy, soggy, awful. How hard is it to bread and fry calamari? Didn't bother getting anything else. Crappy app said it all. read more

I've been going here for years And have always had a problem with the service, but the food brought me back...no more...after calling for over half an hour and having it just be busy, I finally trekked all the way to Garwoods to order take out. After hearing my story and going to speak with the manager (when I arrived a little over half an hour before it even listed as closing), the hostess came back and could not have possibly been more unsympathetic. She proceeded to tell me the kitchen was closed and then gave me a useful remark about how people are making reservations. After serving people for years and having it be a holiday week, you would think the restaurant would be most sympathetic to its regulars as well as willing to take a takeout order by TWO people with 30 whole minutes until it was even set to close. Genuinely will never be back here and will tell everyone I know not to go anywhere near this place because no food is worth rude service people not even mediocre Garwoods. read more

Okay, I admit I got a little bitter when they changed the Spinnaker Pasta recipe - it was my favorite! Garwoods is a great little restaurant with a great location on the lake. Everything I've had there, from the soups and salads, to entrees and raw bar, to dessert (seasonal desserts, mmmm) have been good. I hear they've renovated so the bar isn't upstairs anymore, I'm wondering if this means it's more handicapped friendly? I can't wait to visit again next summer when I'm in town! read more

Server (Rachel) was good but overloaded. Burger was horrible. Ordered medium rare. Got over cooked little piece of meat overwhelmed by roll. Very expensive for what you get. read more

We stopped in here for an early dinner on a Sunday. The outdoor deck was booked so we had indoor seating. Unfortunately, we didn't realize until we were seated that we would be nowhere near the lake view. That, in my opinion, would have made the higher prices and small portions A little more palatable. We sat at one of the tables farthest from the windows and it just felt like being at any other restaurant. Between my husband and I we spent $100 for our meals. My husband got the fisherman's platter and I got the surf and turf. They don't let you know up front that soft drinks cost for each refill. Our waitress just kept asking if we wanted more and our drink tab ended up being much higher than expected. The food tasted good but the portions were somewhat small. Again, assuming that the beautiful views justify the higher prices.. we just did not have the view so it was not worth the price we paid, in our opinion. read more

I stayed in town for the week with my family and ended up at this restaurant 3 of my 7 nights here! There's an option for everyone on the menu whether or not you like seafood, and the price for on the water dining is hard to beat. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. We have been patrons of Garwoods for years. This past Memorial Day we found that Garwoods had let its quality decline: the presentation of the food was undesirable (just thrown on the plate with no attention to detail, the salmon was dry and overlooked and did not taste fresh and all of our entrees were uninspired creations that I could better prepare at home. Everything was over-priced given the poor- quality of the food. The only reason that a place like Garwoods stays in business is because of the ambiance and view of the Lake. Also, they have a captive summer audience. I doubt we will ever eat at Garwoods again and we will discourage others from doing so until we hear there has been an improvement in quality. In any other market Garwoods would be on the road to closing its doors because of competition. read more

We have been dining at Garwoods for many years and this was our least pleasurable experience. We arrived at 11:37a (they open at 11:30a). There was already a line, as the hostesses only seat one party at a time. The should have a manager at the hostess station so they can both be seating at the same time. We sat out on the deck and it was lovely as usual. The food would have been better but my steak tips were ordered medium rare and they came out medium well at best! I mentioned it to the waitress and she said she was sorry. I did not finish them and not once did the manager come over to apologize nor take them off the bill. I also don't understand, in this day and age, when everyone else gives free refills that Garwoods charges for refills. I think the waitress felt bad as she seemed to avoid our table. It's too bad that we had such a bad experience. read more

Being in this area in the middle of summer can be hard to make reservations at the last minute. We had a reservation for 12, which then changed to 20 at the last minute and they had no problem with it. Then we had 6 more show up and they were able to join us. IMO some of the food was great, some average and some not so good. But the real great experience here was the employees. They worked extremely hard all night for our large group and really took care of is very well, all while being pleasant and courteous. At the end the bill did not have an automatic tip added to it... I love this because I feel a tip has to be fair for the service and food received. If they add the tip automatically, that is all I will leave. But if they don't, then I always tip much higher if our experience was great, as it was here. There are other places in this area that have great food, but you leave feeling like a 2nd class citizen. Arrived to an empty restaurant for lunch and a half empty deck, with 8 people in our party and it completely threw the hostess who met us at the door into a tizzy. We asked for a table outside and she escorted us to a back table on the deck with one broken umbrella. As we stood in the blazing sun, we asked to be moved and would happily split up our party into two tables of four so that we could have the two lovely, empty tables closer to the waterfront. That threw her into more of a tizzy and she dragged 8 of us around the porch in front of other diners for several more minutes before reluctantly agreeing to letting us sit in the two tables we had asked for 10 minutes prior. This after I complained that we are paying customers, and what was the the big deal?? I will say, however, that the waiter more than made up for her rudeness, so kudos to him! The food was good, but for the price, it needed to be! The hostess never bothered to give us the menu for the daily specials, so who knows what we may have missed. Regardless, I won't be back and neither will the other two families that were with us. read more

My family and I were in Wolfeboro looking for a place to grab lunch on a busy Thursday afternoon. The only catch was that we had our 70lb. German Shepherd with us, too. We'd heard good things about Garwood's, so I stopped in to see if they had any dog-friendly seating on their patio out back. They welcomed us with open arms, and had a table that could accommodate our family of four and our dog, too. Right on the water, the location was great and we were happy to have somewhere to eat that offered something besides the typical fried food fare. We started with the calamari, which was ok, and the oysters rockefeller, which I thought were phenomenal. I had a kale salad with chicken for lunch, which was quite tasty. Other menu items at the table were fish and chips, which was ok, and a cheese quesadilla with chicken, which looked really good. Our server was very nice, and even brought over a bowl of water for our dog mid-meal. Overall, I'd recommend it for the atmosphere and the friendly service. The food was better than average, although not stellar, but they had a unique selection of items to choose from--something for everyone. read more

This restaurant continues to go downhill. Spent $9 for a caesar salad. Tasted liked bagged lettuce. It was on a large flat plate. Single layer of warm chopped lettuce. Gross. The chicken quesadillas were $16 for 4 slices of mostly cheese with a few small pieces of chopped chicken. The only thing good with this restaurant is the location. So disappointing... where to start? posted menu was lunch but it did not say that anywhere so food on menu was considerably more expensive. Waitress looked down her nose at us whole time - forgot my husband's lettuce/ tomatoes and offered no apology, just huffed off. My dish was pitifully small, son's veggies underwhelming, kids meal greasy. Atmosphere stinks if you are not in one of the FEW inside waterfront tables. Our family of 5 was shoved on three two-person ramshackle tables, no candle, harsh lighting. The only thing good here was tables outside... and it was raining. Food WAY overpriced. A friendly waitress would have gone a long way to make the difference! read more

The good thing - it has a great view. It also has good clams. The bad thing - they could do a lot better on the rest of the food - my husband had the fish and chips....the French fries SUCK. The fish was a bit dry for the price. The cole slaw was just OK. I don't understand why these types of restaurants don't understand that the "sides" are supposed to compliment the meal NOT detract from it!!! We ate at a famous lobster (seafood) place in Rye, Maine that had GREAT rolls and cole slaw - what a great concept. Why can't every restaurant figure that out - serve great sides to enhance the main course!!! For the price, I would rather go back to Rye Maine. read more

Sour ketchup and WAAAAAAY overpriced...Very let down after sacrificing $100 for a less than acceptable lunch with my husband...He wanted to treat me to a nice lunch before leaving for work(military)for a month..Waitress informed me I should have told her the ketchup was rancid before I had..Really......Your lucky I was nice.... read more

The view is the best part of the entire experience. This place does have GREAT views, but that's pretty much where it ends. If you do find yourself there make sure you get the cheese steak. Food and drink in general are over priced and just OK. The salads (meal size) are very small. I promise you'll leave hungry if you get a salad. I'd suggest you venture up the road to El Centanario for the best food in town. read more

Had lunch this weekend on the deck. A nice spot on the water with views of the Miss Winnie coming and going. Menu was a bit limited for lunch, and quite pricey. Asian chicken salad was a whole lot of cabbage salad that filled the large dinner plate and a small piece of chicken. Same with the Caesar Salad. A burger was, as I recall, $12. Service was only fair. Waitstaff must weave through the crowded deck tables, climb a narrow set of stairs clogged with people trying to go up or down, to get to the indoor restaurant, and weave through a busy dining room to bring you anything you need. We weren't given silverware so off she went and a while later she returned with it and plunked two rolled napkins on the table. She seemed unhappy about waiting tables--I suppose I would be, too, if I had to go through all of that to serve people sitting outdoors. Ditto when she asked if we wanted more water. Across the deck, up the stairs she went. Why not put a station on the deck with water, flatware, etc?? I am sure there are more interesting and reasonable places to have a casual lunch in Wolfeboro and perhaps the wait staff would be more enthusiastic. read more

The only highlight of this lunch was sitting on the deck on the water. I have a wheat and dairy allergy and wasn't expecting them to jump thru hoops, just follow some pretty simple directions. Plain burger, GF bun, no cheese, with bacon, and condiments. Told the waitress about the allergies, she wrote it on the ticket. Got my burger, it was on a buttered Udi's bun. Waitress was MIA for almost 20 minutes, I finally got up to go find her. She said she'd have a new one made. Came back in less than 5 min, far too fast for a new burger to have been made. Bacon was exactly as I had rearranged it on top of the burger. Questioned the server on this and she promised that it was a new burger and bacon (it was obviously not). Took a bite and it was lukewarm. If it had been freshly made that fast it should have burned my mouth. Had my typical dairy reaction after eating it. Very disappointed with my experience and their cavalier handling of my food allergy. Husband's food was also mediocre and we both commented how for the price we could have had a much better experience and meal at Wolfe's Tavern. read more
