Every time my wife and I visit my mother we make sure to have a drink and some chowder at Garwoods!

Great Location-on the Lake-with a dining patio!! Very cozy also on a rainy evening recently! Excellent food- Had the special veal pot roast and a wonderful spinach salad with dried blueberries! Tables by the windows were best- also the restaurant has a beautiful wood bar- also with a view of the Lake ! Dinner started at 5pm but the restaurant seated us prior to 5 which was nice- in fact a competitor lost our business due to the fact we could not sit prior to 5pm. .Would recommend to friends or family while traveling thru the Lakes region in New Hampshire ! read more

I don't know who paid Vera to write that review. Yikes. That review is as crippling as a club to the knee of a figure skater, that is, totally not because I'm about to redeem this restaurant. Well. A little. The good: Mom's boyfriend ordered the fried clams, I didn't warn him about the very recent post about them, because that's not my job. I wanted to see if the review was true. SO FALSE ITS NOT EVEN FUNNY. His plate had a good number of clams, too many to count, almost as many as you'd get on a large plate from a place that specialized in fried seafood, and they were quite tasty. Not the best clams ever but certainly good. The fries, while a bit crispy and perhaps a little overdone by some standards, we're also good. I had them with my burger. The deserts we're also well made and they had a large variety. My wife said her pasta was tasty and despite the strange combinations of ingredients (shrimp, chorizo and dill) they worked very well together. It didn't look particularly appetizing, but I don't like shrimp very much anyways, especially with pasta. Bad bad bad experience once with that. I forget what my mother had, but im sure it was fine or I would have heard about it. If you're going to get soup, go with the clam chowder. It looked better than my bisque. I didn't taste it but they said it was good and the bisque was thinner than I like, and while not bad, was underwhelming. Nice view from the deck. The bad: Two words: The bill. This place is ridiculously expensive for what you get... 7 dollars for 6 ounces of mediocre bisque??? 14 dollars for a hamburger, without any added toppings???? (they also forgot my mayo, and the waitress asked me if I wanted it, it wasn't even a special request). This place is very overpriced. I don't care how good the view is. If I'm paying 14-20 dollars for a hamburger, it better have some truffle oil and a view of scarlett johanssons tush. Lucky for me I didn't foot the bill, it was our second anniversary, and the Woodshed is closed on Mondays so we settled for Garwoods as it was close by. My mom didn't mind picking up the tab, but I kinda felt bad. As I said above. The food was fine, even good, but it wasn't worth whatever my mom ended up paying. Also, even though the waitress forgot my mayonnaise, she was pleasant, and it was probably the kitchens fault. -2 stars for crazy high prices. read more

Enjoyed a great dinner special last weekend... Stuffed acorn squash! It was so tasty, I'm going to try and replicate it at home! We were visiting Wolfeboro and stoped in for dinner. We were all pleased with our choices and ate the entire portions! .This restaurant is located right on the Lake so the views during the day are wonderful. Decent restauran-y restaurant in Wolfboro. We ate in the bar (not on the deck it was 120 in the shade that day). The bar has a nice atmosphere and good view of the lake. Service was good, and the food good for what it is. read more

Great food with an amazing view of Lake Winnipesaukee ! The spinicar pasta is my favorite dish.

Nice location on the lake, outdoor seating dockside available. Fresh open interior. Service is fine. The food, however is just OK. I had the haddock in parchment (paper). The fish was fresh, the herbs were meager, and in general my food was tasteless. The green beans and carrots were frozen... and green beans are in season right now. No excuse for frozen veggies in the summer. Plain white rice molded in a 1/2 cup measure (tacky presentation). Not even basic salt & pepper seasoning on anything. Like most food in NH; bland, plain and tasteless. My husband had fish & chips (also haddock). The fish was fresh. The fries were frozen, not fresh cut. My MIL had the fried clams, they looked good. If you like plain bland food, you'll be happy at Garwoods. read more

I still like Garwoods but the prices have climbed to a point that I was tempted to drop a star from the rating. But sitting on the patio watching the lake is worth the price of admission. read more

My favorite place in Wolfeborough. Great service, food and setting. Clam chowder was the best I've ever had (yes, I'm serious). Our experience could not have been better. Oh and our server Sam was absolutely amazing. Easy on the eyes, sharp as a tack, and sets a new bar for responsiveness. Great hire! read more

Lake front view was amazing. Food was very fresh and tasty. Lobster roll (no mayonnaise, basically just a lump of fresh lobster on bread) and lobster bisque was especially good. Would definitely recommend coming here. read more

Almost a 5-star place - really good food and service. A bit expensive, but fair value

My wife and I went for lunch. When we arrive no one was waiting, but all the tables were full. We were told a 20-30 minute wait was forthcoming. My wife suggested we move on, but I mentioned to her we would be seated quickly due to being the first on the wait list. We were seated in 5 minutes. The view and atmosphere were both good to great, but those were the best reasons to go. We got a view, but the restaurant offers few tables a view. The waitperson was also very good. We ordered the calamari to start. The portion was a bit smaller than often is the case, but sufficient. The rings and tentacles were of small calamari, which we thought was favorable, but it was greasier than typical and, as is often the case, it was also overcooked. I had hoped for better. My wife had the portabella sandwich, a suggestion of the waitperson. It was good overall and the best thing we ordered, but the mushroom was not as tender as we are used in such sandwiches - we each swapped a portion of our plates so we could both try each others'. I ordered the fish tacos. They were not special at all. The fish was fried. Although nicely crisp the batter, was greasier than typical and thicker than I would prefer. No special condiments, etc. Very average overall and not up to snuff for this restaurant. Next time we're in town we will go elsewhere. The town of Wolfeboro offers some much better options. read more

Food was excellent. Even the kids meals were great quality. Atmosphere was beautiful and relaxing. Staff was very attentive and kind. They helped my 90 year old grandmother to our seats and even turned up the light above our table when they realized she was struggling to read the menu in the dimmed lighting and then turned it back down for our meal. we've lived in Wolfeboro for 7 years, tried Garwoods three times, each time we were treated rudely by two different managers :( I can't imagine we're the only couple to have these experiences, not sure how a business can stay open doing that. read more

Great bartender, great food. Lousy hostess and manager. After promising to seat our table for 8 in 30 minutes and even telling us which table will be ours, they gave it away to a table of 17. That table for 17 ate and left and we were still waiting to place our order for lunch after they crammed the 8 of us into a round table meant for 6. We had to return our boat by 4pm at the other end of the lake so sadly we had to leave without lunch. We were cranky and hungry and spent 2 hours waiting to get fed. After playing dumb instead of apologizing to us, I demanded that the manager provide us a free round of drinks. Got it so at least we got some satisfaction, but really could have used an apology for such an awful afternoon. read more

They've just added a couple of vegan options. I had the pasta dish which was excellent but since I'm a light eater wasn't able to try the soup but will definitely go back. The place looks great, the waitstaff were wonderful... Kudos to Garwoods for vegan options! I'm hoping they'll also add a vegan dessert in the future... read more

Probably the worst dining experience I have had in Wolfeboro NH. The portions are so small that it is embarrassing as the quiche was the size of piece of bread. Be prepared to pay for every glass of soda water and then get charged for a liquor tax. The explanation was every drink whether liquor or soda gets charged a liquor tax. Maybe that is why they are never crowded when I walk by. Please do not eat at this rip off place so you do not feel you were taken advantage of like I was. read more

It was a very disappointing experience for such a beautiful place. We got a table right away, which was so great. But we waited over an hour for drinks and food. When we got the bill the prices for the "specials" were outrageous! 29.99 for a lobster roll that came on the smallest hot dog bun I've ever seen and a seafood platter with two shrimp and three scallops. I have to say the management was great, because they agreed our portions were incorrect. But we will not be back there unfortunately. read more

Wolfeboro is one of the only places I have been where the locals do not catch a break when it comes to the price of drinks. Having to pay nearly $4.00 for a bottle of domestic beer is outlandish when the cost is about $1,00 to the tavern. Although I realize that they have a short season and little time to make their money, it seems unfair. All the taverns charge about the same, so there is little choice. The bartender was friendly and accommodating and I will probably return. I know that I am not considered a local, but am a yearly visitor, (35 years) and have family property near here. read more

Excellent service from Courtney our waitress (who was super sweet with the 3 year old in our party). Food was very good (the dressing on the butternut squash ravioli salad and the sauce on the crispy half chicken were both very tasty). Beautiful view of Wolfeboro Bay from their patio. Garwoods is the greatest restaurant! My husband and I are always pleased with their menu, : great soups, yummy hummus, wonderful salads, fresh seafood and steaks and burgers, great cocktails and nice comfortable bar area! The atmosphere is warm and friendly with a great staff,the views are spectacular ! We have been eating at Garwoods for 2 years, we were there for a wonderful lunch today and dinner last night and are thinking about heading there for dinner again! We are never disappointed and can't wait to head there when we are in town. !!! read more

Found this wonderful restaurant. My husband wanted clam chowder and I wanted a lobster roll. Both were excellent. There was so much lobster on my roll I had to eat it with a fork before I could close it and eat it as a roll. Service was excellent. I highly recommend. read more
