Then be wowed. The downstairs (Gaslamp) has a beautiful bar with high end curated cocktails. Top notch service. There are about 4 tables in Gaslamp, cozy, yet separated by dark wood dividers. We appreciated the attentiveness of our servers. All of the drinks and dishes were explained very well. Appetizers: the bone marrow escargo was amazing, served with filing bread, the scallops- delicious. Served with a caviar bump! Oysters - fabulous, with a lovely cucumber dunk as well as cocktail sauce. Main- don't miss the French Laundry tomahawk ribeye- this rivals top New York steakhouses. We loved the Dover sole as well- different, savory, umami. We were too full for desserts. Upstairs is more seating with a view of downstairs. The coworkers and I have been wanting to try this place for a while, and our schedules finally aligned to visit!! Friendly suggestion to make sure you make reservations ahead of time!! This place is cute and cozy, seating maybe less than 25-ish people inside at a time. We had a party of 7 and it was a bit of a tight fit, but we made it work. The ambiance is quite dark with several (obviously) gas lamps lighting each table. Ngl, I had a hard time seeing through your the evening and had to use my phone flashlight at times to look at the menu and just exactly what I was eating lol Coworkers ordered some drinks and the presentation of each was very unique! For apps, we ordered the oysters on half shell, bone marrow, and scallops (plus added on caviar). I wasn't feeling any of the starters but the bone marrow was as huge as my forearm(!!) and came with escargot. Coworkers enjoyed it but wish there was actually more marrow and toast to munch on. Other coworkers loved the scallops and said they were cooked just right and the caviar on top really added the extra salty oomph that complimented the scallops. They also really liked the oysters, but because it was super dark, we didn't see that one of the oysters actually had a good sized bug on them until after I got home and looked at my pictures!! It was too late to say anything since I was already home, but just be warned, maybe double check your food before eating... For our entrees, literally everyone on our table got the same thing-- the ribeye steak and lobster tail combo! The ribeye was marbled nicely and I also ordered the hamakua mushroom sauce (typically served with the filet mignon) on the side, which I thought complimented the steak pretty well. The lobster was good, but charred a little too much imo, which overpowered the natural sweetness of the lobster, but ehh it is what it is. FYI, it is Ala carte, so we got a bunch of different sides to share: fries, mashed potatoes, Brussel sprouts, and asparagus. Get the truffle fries!! It's shoestring-like fries tossed in truffle oil and topped with lots of Parmesan cheese. Also had the misoyaki Brussel sprouts, which I felt was unique, but also not really my favorite. The mashed potatoes were alright, but I ended up needing to add more salt because it felt bland.. For dessert, we opted to share the creme brûlée and cheesecake. Cheesecake was nice (not too sweet), but I think I'd go with the cream brûlée if I ever go back again. What makes this place fun is it's a dinner and a show! There's a saxophone player who plays up on the lanai above the dining room and during his set, also walked down to interact with the customers. In the middle of dinner, we were also surprised to find a fire dancer performing on the bar while the saxophone player played! All in all, gaslamp is a pretty swanky place that's perfect for a GNO, date night, or place where you want to impress someone. I went here with a friend for dinner on a Tuesday evening. We had a reservation for either 9 or 930. It's located inside a pub/sports bar and you walk all the way to the left when you enter and give them the secret password. The interior is very small - probably only 4-5 tables. There was live jazz music when we arrived. We ordered a few drinks, garlic Parmesan fries, the French laundry (tomahawk) and miso Brussel sprouts. The fries were very crispy and had a lot of Parmesan shavings - it was the perfect start to our meal as it takes a little while for the tomahawk to come out. They brought out the tomahawk and fired some butter over it which then flavored the mashed potatoes. They also torched the garlic and rosemary. The steak was a very delicious medium rare and the side complimented it perfectly. We were both pretty full after our meal. Overall a fun and delicious experience. The vibe here is immaculate. The live musician is super talented - he switches up instruments and really creates a unique atmosphere. Huge props to him!! When he's not playing though, they switch to generic pop music that doesn't really match the classy feel of the place. Kind of a buzzkill. Food-wise, it's really solid. Everything we tried was delicious, though I was a little let down by the Beef Wellington. It looked amazing but tasted a bit bland, which was surprising given all the hype. We also tried their Ribeye and Lobster which was amazing! Service was excellent--friendly, attentive, and on point. But here's where things went south: the bill. We noticed that the prices listed on our check didn't match the prices on the menu. When we asked about it, the server said it's because they add a credit card fee per item, plus a 3% fee on the total bill. That just doesn't make any sense, and honestly, it felt SHADY. It really ruined the overall experience for us. I don't mind paying for a great meal, but don't nickel and dime people in sneaky ways. That's the main reason I'm giving 2 stars. Great ambiance and incredible service. We walked in at 4:45 pm right after they opened with no reservation and were seated quickly. I had the Steak Diane and it was cooked perfectly with a rich, savory sauce. My wife had the veal and it was tender and delicious. The Spotted Cat cocktail was smoky, balanced, and memorable. My family & I were staying in the North Shore and we were looking for something a little more on the "fancy" side, that also had oysters on the menu. Gaslamp is inside a pub, with speakeasy vibes. Once you're in Gaslamp there are very few tables. Maybe 6 tables and the bar seating. To drink I ordered the espresso martini. I really enjoyed the Smokey-ness of the cocktail. We of course ordered a dozen oysters which did not disappoint! I had the surf and turf for my main. The lobster was perfectly cooked and not fishey. The steak was great as well, I will say it was a little undercooked for my liking but only slightly. Overall we loved Gaslamp! Don't let the strip mall location fool you--Gaslamp is a true hidden gem. We chose it for a girls' night out to celebrate a friend's 60th birthday, and it delivered on every level. My girlfriends & I have been dreaming of this place since the first time we came here for their birthdays in January so it was only right to come back for mine! Ivan was our server again and he was just as amazing as last time! He made sure to keep checking up on us and never let our glasses get half empty. The Gaslamp certainly leans heavily on ambiance & excellent service. Although the entrance is pretty modest even for speakeasy standards, once you enter, you are transported. Even during the middle of the week, there was a wonderful live jazz musician playing the sax and flute. The service was similarly top notch with multiple servers/bartenders cycling through to check on us throughout our meal. The drink menu was splendid with options including a Star Wars Ewok drink which was both delicious and effective (thanks amaro!). The food menu was somewhat less impressive, although the signature Tomahawk steak dish prepared at table side made for a wonderful show. As a non-beef eater, I went with the lobster bucatini as the lobster risotto is off their most recent menu. It was creamy, and the roe provided the perfect amount of salty umami flavor. The oysters were good, though slightly disappointing since there were only four for the price. The beef carpaccio was decent but had too many toppings, which overpowered the raw meat. Entertainment was a highlight. A performer did fire dancing (including putting fire in her mouth), and there was a talented live musician who played saxophone and several other instruments. The live music elevated the experience. The tiramisu at the end was excellent, not overly sweet, which I appreciated since I'm usually not a dessert person. We have been to Gaslamp in Kailua many times over the years and spent far too much $$ (its very expensive), including later in the evening for cocktails, so last night's - being Friday night - experience was especially disappointing. We arrived around 9:00 p.m. on a Friday night. and asked if we could have a drink. The place was not full and the bar was open - yet we were left waiting nearly 20 minutes while staff checked with the manager. When he finally came down from the Loft, we were simply told, "We don't seat after 9:30," and he walked away. The posted hours online say Monday through Thursday 4:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m. and Friday through Sunday 4:30 p.m.-10:45 p.m. If there is an earlier cutoff for late-evening guests, that should be communicated clearly and respectfully. Update your advertised times if the times are incorrect. The issue was not just being told no. It was the dismissive and disrespectful way it was handled. As longtime patrons, we expected and deserved much better. Don't advertise yourself as a speakeasy if you are apparently the exact opposite of what that implies. A speakeasy is traditionally a discreet, hidden bar, and in modern use it implies an intimate, inviting cocktail experience. It seems like guests are being screened selectively, which is not a good look for any business, especially one trading on atmosphere and hospitality. We won't be back and we will make sure we share with others so they don't have to experience the unnecessary brush off. Hopefully, someone will open another speakeasy in Kailua. read more

It is so nice to discovery a nice, fancy restaurant in Kailua. We always like to splurge for our anniversary, but this time we could stay in the area. I initially made the reservation for earlier but we had issues with a sitter and had to change it to later. I was worried we would need to forego our anniversary dinner this year but they were very accommodating! It's INSIDE Kailua Town Pub and Grill which I didn't realize. Better instructions on the email would have been helpful. It was weird to walk through people causally at the bar in our nice outfits. They didn't seem to be enforcing the dress code, that appeared to be strict on their website. We made an effort to dress up but other people were in there with jeans and slippers. The email beforehand was very clear about the password, and the speak easy process was really fun! I got the filet minion with foie gras and of course we got dessert. The service was excellent and the food came out really fast! We did not order the tomahawk, but the table next to us did. They made a big show of bringing it out and cutting it up-the girl doing it seemed very sweet but did not know what she was doing and I was cringing because her hair was not tied back and getting in the food. The people who ordered it seemed to enjoy it but if it were us, I think I would have asked her to tie her hair back. The drinks were pricey but fun and unique. The vibe was chill and romantic. When I found out there would be live music, I was worried it would be too loud in such a small area but it was just the right decibel and didn't overpower the place. This is a little late of a review, but my wife brought me here to celebrate my birthday last month. She made a reservation which seemed to be a flawless process. Given the code word for our reservation and being led to a room in the backside of the bar was pretty neat. The space is small. Just enough space for people who hold reservations. We were greeted promptly and our drink orders taken. Don't have any complaints about the drink recommendations. For starters we got some oysters and the bone marrow which was probably the best thing we got that night. We also got the seafood tower which had a good mix of seafood. One of my biggest complaints is that they used previously frozen fish and not fresh fish for the poke and it lacked flavor. Maybe a little more salt and sesame oil would've done the trick. We also got a steak I can't remember which one it was but the meat was cooked well and the sides were great and complimented the flavors of the dish. My biggest complaint is how they charge things on the bill. They have some kind of tax on each item that you order if using a credit card. Luckily my wife seen an earlier review from another patron and brought cash to pay the bill. When my wife let the server know that we would be paying cash he didn't seem too enthusiastic that that's the way we wanted to pay. I've been working 15+ years in the hospitality industry and just feel like tonight was very disappointing. We were out for a special evening and chose to dine at gas lamp for the intimate atmosphere and ambiance. However, our entire hour and a half experience was filled with bright lights, hand held LED light bar and constant camera flashes in our eyes from a table across from us. I asked our server about it and told him it was bothersome, he said they were influencers for advertisement, they didn't seem to care much about the concern. Sadly, we spent over $350 on an intimate experience we didn't get. I really wanted to bring this to someone's attention because if this was for marketing or advertising it really should have been done before opening or after closing so it didn't interfere with anyone's experience. I hope you understand our frustration this evening. This was sent as an email and our future reservation for a friends birthday was cancelled because of it, however, No reply to the email. Word of mouth is big on island. They also made us awkwardly wait at the pub bar even though we were on time for our reservation. There was no "speak easy" vibe from the beginning. Unique, in an odd way. Very Expensive beyond your wildest imagination (bill will be $200 to $400 easily) even though it's not a classy establishment, more as a Speakeasy. They require reservations, entry code phrase (they didn't even ask this time) and dress up standards. It's a very dark small back space with about 6 small tables, tucked in the far corner inside Kailua town Pub & Grill. The gaslight ambiance requires a flashlight phone to read your menu. SURPRISE! Not all prices are listed or just "market price". The wagyu steak is up to $200 last check, but it is a marvelous presentation vertically hanging while butter is flamed dripping over your Wagyu steak onto mashed potatoes below. The food is excellent to good, depending on your choices. It's definitely a special occasion type of restaurant. We tried the grilled seafood appetizer $52, which was delicious. It was also difficult to de-shell most items. Usually, fine restaurants loosen the lobster and place back onto shell, cut the shrimp shell, etc. making dining a smooth experience. This was a battle even getting the lobster out of the cut shell. Tough little bugger! I gave up on the large full shrimp, so hubby ate those. All in all, it's messy to say the least. Our last server did bring wet hand napkins to maintain cleanliness. We never did see the first waiter again, no loss there. He was too busy drinking at the bar with friends? Do that on your off time buddy. Next up was the delicious snow crab & Beef Wellington combo, although the snow crab was a chore. The snow crab butter sauce was outstanding. Whoever cuts the crab into unmanageable small shell pieces doesn't eat crab often. They cut some pieces so short and close to the joint which made it nearly impossible to break open. Definitely need more length leverage to extract the crab meat. The Beef Wellington was so tender and juicy with taste to match. Definitely recommend this combo. Add in the truffle fries and asparagus with bearnaise sauce. Fries were crisp and flavorful. Would get this again. The asparagus was overdone, limp, with the sauce placed on the far top end of this very long dish making it difficult to reach on this cramped table. Usually, it should be drizzled over the asparagus. I don't remember tasting the sauce at all. The service was pretty sad from entry to waiter. It was our anniversary and they never mentioned it once. The waiter who took the order was definitely not up to par in presenting the menu. Very blasé and uninterested. Was hoping for the flare we paid dearly for and most described as excellent. Not sure why it was what it was . The third delivery and pickup waiter was excellent . He should have been in the waiter position instead since he fit the bill. I would use names but not a single server or hostess introduced themselves at any point. Another big no no. We were tucked in a booth under the saxophone balcony, so couldn't enjoy the live performance. I really missed that. Overall, it's worth trying once on a special occasion for the experience. As we were looking at the menu, my family noticed a few bugs flying around our table. My partner and I have been coming to Gaslamp regularly over the past year. We've celebrated both of our birthdays, Valentine's Day, and our anniversary here. Clark, Nico, Mike, along with the rest of the staff and performers are all spectacular in what they do! We have tried almost everything on the menu and trust us, it's worth it. We always start off with the Black Truffle Risotto, and our favorite entrées are the Wagyu Sampler, and the Tomahawk Steak. The cocktail menu is diverse with both tropical and spirit-forward profiles - something for everyone! The setting is intimate, with majority of the lighting coming from the mini gas lamps around the restaurant. Be sure to book well in advance to request either a table or counter seating (we were graciously accommodated, each time). Cheers to Gaslamp for being our special spot. I had an opportunity to visit the Gaslamp speakeasy due to a last minute reservation that came up and I'm thrilled to have had this experience. The cocktails here are probably the best ones I've had so far on my visit to Oahu. I loved the vast variety of options and in particular, the "Dealer's Choice" offering, where you're able to describe your perfect cocktail to the bartender and they whip you up a custom cocktail that's not on the menu. The drinks menu itself is fantastic, so don't feel pressured to choose "Dealer's Choice" if you want to keep it simple, but I highly recommend this fun experience. Many of the drinks have a very flashy presentation when they're brought to your table: some are lit on fire while others have elements that are lit on fire to impart additional smokey flavors into the cocktail. My party didn't order any of the mains since we had other dinner plans but everything we tried off the appetizer menu was shockingly good! We had scallops, oysters, a small charcuterie board, and grilled octopus. The grilled octopus was cooked to perfection and better than octopus I've had at Michelin starred restaurants. The scallops where large, plump, and not overcooked. Though they come in a set of three, if you have more in your party, they can easily add a few more pieces for around $8 each. One of the best dining experience I've ever had in my life. Really cool speak east. Awesome ambience. Live music. It was really spectacular. The menu is ever changing- but tonight we had some wine- really nice wine list. I had a cocktail-also a great cocktail menu. The waiter explained the drink menu. For starters - we had burrata and nectarine- lots of flavor. The burrata was rich and creamy and the nectarine was a nice compliment. Lobster crostini was good but the accompanying salad was really epic. It went well together. Small charcuterie board- it was good but compared to the rest of the meal... nothing too exciting. For our entree we had the French Laundry- it's not cheap- but seriously delicious- especially the table side butter melting. Wow .... We also had the lobster bucatini - it was phenomenal- one of the best pasta dishes ever. It was rich and creamy with nice chunks of lobster. And dessert - creme brûlée, Lilokai cheesecake, tiramisu. When we pulled up for the Mister's birthday reservations, he pointed and said, "We're going THERE?" Lol yep! He was confused and a little disappointed and mostly concerned that I'd lost my mind bringing our family - including our very Minor 9 year old - to a BAR. We were early and had to wait about 15 mins - in the Bar. And not a single person batted an eye that there was a kid there But, it ended up being such a great time for all of us. It's just 5 tables and 4 barstools secretly tucked behind a sound proof Telephone Booth bi-fold door - reservations highly highly recommended It's a moody vibe lit by GASLAMPs with live Jazz music, never ending water glass fill-ups, great appetizers, well thought out cocktails, and Amazing entrees. It's definitely not kid friendly - atmosphere and price wise - but my Little basically behaves like a young adult and the servers treated him as such, even jokingly asking if he'd like a glass of whiskey! 12/10 recommend for a couple, probably not for a family as it's Not a cheap date lol Last thing: guests, please adhere to the dress code, the website states business casual. A guy in a t-shirt was seated just as we were leaving. We love the concept but the implementation needs overhaul. From the beginning, I'll go through the night. The area you go to wait to go upstairs is very crowded and you feel like you're intruding on the bar patrons. The decorations as you climb the stairs are super fun and the lighting is dark and lovely. The service was slow and our drinks took over 30 minutes which I thought they'd take a while as I appreciate hand crafted cocktails but they came staggered. Like 3 would come in 30 minutes then 2 more 10 minutes later then finally the last two 10 minutes later. So almost an hour to get our first drink. Can't cheers altogether with not everyone having drinks. Then, the food took a long time but that was ok but again the staggering of food arrivals was off and when the food runner or servers brought the plates they auctioned them off because they didn't use place numbers I think so a dish would come and it's like,"a who ordered the steak? Who ordered the chop salad? Etc" just felt like mid level service for upper level prices. Again, love the concept but servers, bartenders, food runners etc all need to be a bit more prepped, educated on higher level of service and kitchen timing. The scallops were amazing as was the spiny lobster but the usda prime ribeye was not tasting prime at all. Gristly and dry even though it was cooked medium rare as asked. read more

This is a cute, small speakeasy located at the back of a pub. The food was quick to arrive and tasted great, while the drinks were strong. The live music added to the pleasant atmosphere, and the staff were attentive. Our first visit was memorable! We plan to return for our anniversary because this place is different from any restaurant we've tried before. Keep in mind, this venue is more expensive, making it suitable for special occasions. read more

Gaslamp speakeasy in Kailua is the perfect spot for an upscale dinner in a small, intimate setting with live jazz. The food is delicious, the drinks are amazing, and the staff is both knowledgeable and accommodating--without a hint of pretentiousness. If a past president and celebrities choose this place for private events, it's easy to see why. This will definitely be our go-to for upscale dining in Hawaii. read more

Speakeasy bars are becoming a thing in Hawaii now and it is our mission to try them all! It's located in the very back of a local bar so you might feel out of place with your fancy attire but just power through the crowd and head straight to the telephone booth. They'll ask for the password (they text you prior) and to show your IDs. Try not to show up too early because the place is really small so it's rare for the table to be ready. It's very dark and intimate but because of the space, I felt like I could hear everyone's conversations. We ordered a lot which became a bit unfortunate because the table we had was barely enough to fit all of our food (we had to put our drinks behind us which made us forget about them time to time) We ordered the Garlic Truffle Fries, Brussel Sprouts, Lobster Risotto, and the Porterhouse and out of everything, we really like their fries and risotto! The risotto was a lot lighter than expected (from what I was told, it should be light) and also had veggies that I didn't expect which made it better! It was disappointing that the Porterhouse didn't wow us, considering their steaks are what they're known for. And for their price point, I personally didn't think it was worth it (over $400 for 4 people) but at least the service was really nice! They also have an in-house saxophonist which gave a nice vibe. I normally don't like live music because it's hard to have a conversation but I had no problem here. I'd say go at least once for the experience but I think I'm good after my one time read more
