I've eaten at places with $200 plates of steak and Michelin star locations when I was in the mainland, and have often been disappointed. Being in the food industry for many years I believe good food doesn't have to cost that much, and I'd leave most fancy places hungry cause they give you small portions (I'm 6'6. A big dude who loves to eat). While this place is on the pricier end for my taste, I do think it's completely worth it. We ended up here for our anniversary and I think this spot is great for special occasions. It's an intimate atmosphere with live jazz music, the bartender Clark was very knowledgeable about drink recipes, the food was delicious, and the service was amazing. This place was an experience. Not just getting served expensive food. We probably spent $400 that night for 2 people, but thats what you would spend at a nice steak house anyways. Definitely recommend checking this place out if you haven't already.

Ooohhh WOW! I think this is my favorite fancy birthday dinner so far. I am a huge fan of Mastro's on the mainland: elegant atmosphere, attentive service, live music, Flintstone-size steaks, and their sinful butter cake. Gaslamp brings that to the Windward side. French Laundry did not disappoint - it was a feast for the eyes and stomach. Watching our swinging tomahawk arrive, the beef fat drip into the mashed potatoes, to the plating, made for one very happy birthday girl. And when it came time for desserts, the last mentioned item was BUTTER CAKE. Happy birthday indeed.

Rounding up from a 4.5 because overall the food and the service and the ambiance were all incredible. We had a reservation for a fairly large party (this is a TINY space!) booked well in advance, and the staff were so helpful at communicating the policies and planning the evening to accommodate our group. Everyone LOVED the experience. The presentations were all great, the food was incredible. As one member of our party said "I love how much fire this place uses!" Torched roasted garlic, smoked old fashioned, even a fire dancer! The only thing we ordered that felt subpar was the creme brulee... it was fairly loose and lacking the signature "tappable" layer on top. The tiramisu, on the other hand, was praised as one of the best they've had. It is pricey, but it is also easy to split quite a few of the entrees as they are quite a large quantity of food and definitely worth it for the atmosphere and experience overall. Highly recommend going with friends and sharing a handful of sides, apps, etc, to be able to try more!

I feel somewhat defeated & i think 3 stars is being generous. Came for our anniversary. Live jazz music was cool! Also had a fire dancer woman perform on the bar. Ordered 2 drinks, took 28 minutes. Appetizers took 12 minutes. Entrees took 1 HOUR. Felt like our server was kinda avoiding us, lack of communication, and we got our entrees and drinks after others near us even though we ordered first. For reference, a table next to us got their entrees 30 minutes before us, even though we ordered before AND we ordered everything all at once. If she just communicated more, we'd be more understanding but she would check in on other people double the amount she would check on us. Loved the truffle fries, mac n cheese was pretty good 80% cheese though but some people like that. Beef Wellington was okay, not worth it if you enjoy a good steak alone. Crab was a tiny portion. $150 without tip and we were there for almost 2 hours. Not by choice haha. Keep in mind my husband and i have 5+ years in the food industry also as servers so we were trying to give grace.

The better half of the world food tour duo trekked over to Kailua and met me at Gaslamp, on Hoolai St. The parking lot was full so we both found parking on the street. Hah, when I got back to my car, I found another car illegally parked behind me. So, parking appears to be an issue in this area. There is no signage outside that tells you it's Gaslamp, the signage says Kailua Town Pub and Grill. You have to go past the left side of the bar to a door, give a wait staff the secret passcode (which I failed to remember) and be taken through a door behind you, up a steep staircase to a small space overlooking the bar downstairs. There are about six tables and it's a very dark space. Natalie was our server and we started with a Botanist gin & tonic ($18) and a glass of J Lassalle Champagne ($25). I didn't have any details about the wine, but it was not complex and was lacking bubbles. We ordered the Kagoshima Wagyu Carpaccio($32) and the Escargot Bone Marrow ($42) to start. The carpaccio was a visual treat with capers, thin slices of radish, dill, pecorino and caviar. It tasted as good as it looked. The bone marrow was even better ... two large bones topped with garlic buttered escargot, decorated with blistered tomatoes, and an arugula salad with two pieces of grilled sourdough. So unctuous, so decadent, so divine! We split two entrees ... The Wagyu Sampler (market price, it was $179), and the Black Truffle Risotto ($54). We added extra truffle ($12) and a side of Miso Brussels Sprouts ($16). The sampler came with two pieces of A5 "Snow Beef", a piece of American "Wagyu" Filet Mignon, and pieces of ribeye an NY striploin, 12oz in all, and two sauces. The risotto contained sea asparagus, mascarpone and mozzarella cheeses, Hamakua mushrooms, and tomatoes. I consider the extra black truffle mandatory ... It's not special without it. We ended our meal by sharing a Tiramisu ($12) and I had an espresso ($5). The tiramisu was very good, made in the classic style with pieces of fruit on top. There was live music ... a saxophonist played soft jazz starting at 6:30pm. It was our kind of music. Service was fine ... we asked Natalie to slow down the delivery of food, and she ensured it was so. The food was great and we enjoyed our first visit to Gaslamp. One note: they apply a service charge if you use a credit card ... It seems to be the new norm. Highly recommended (4.5), even if you must search for parking.

The decor is classic speakeasy--leather, dark wood, wall shelves filled with books and an incredible back bar that glows. It's quite small and intimate, making it perfect for dates or a serious conversation. The acoustics are handled well; you can hear the jazz/blues background music, but you don't have to shout to be heard. I especially loved the food and drinks. We ordered: King Arthur, Ribeye, Baked Crab & Artichoke Dip, Truffle Fries & Panko Crusted Mac n Cheese. *** King Arthur is a 2 course meal featuring Beef Wellington and Buttered Snow Crab Claws both are delicious 10/10!! I really couldn't stop smiling after my first bite. Beef was cooked so perfect and it almost melts in your mouth! **** I am looking forward to dining here again and again.

This was such a fun night out with the girls! If you've never visited a speakeasy for dinner, definitely give this spot a try. The staff were all kind and knowledgeable of the menu. To start, we had the baked crab and artichoke dip (this was perfect for the three of us!) and then I had the black truffle risotto and added on the lobster tail. I loved the risotto as it was creamy and not al dente. The lobster tail was a great addition to the meal and made it feel celebratory. I'd highly recommend coming here!

If you're looking for something unique with fine dining energy, get dressed up and head to Gaslamp -- the nightlife vibe hits just right. Upscale, lively, and definitely an experience. And yes... caviar bumps are a must. Fancy, fun, and unforgettable.

I was so impressed with this restaurant that I couldn't wait to post a review. This was my first speakeasy and I didn't know what to expect. I made a reservation online and was texted the password to enter the restaurant once my reservation was confirmed. The outside looks like a casual sports bar. But once we entered, we saw the "telephone booth" on the left that led to the restaurant. The hostess checked us in by asking us for the password and verifying our ID. Once we were inside, the mood changed from a casual pub to an intimate five star restaurant. First of all, let's talk ambiance. We loved the intimate setting with a live musician playing music in the balcony area of the venue. It's pretty small so expect to be in close contact with the table next to you. However, we found it to be super romantic and relaxing. Now for the service. Let me just say that our server was amazing. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and checked on us throughout the night to ensure satisfaction. We did not feel rushed at all. She made great drink and food recommendations that left us feeling satisfied and inspired. I don't remember the names of the drinks but everything tasted delicious. The food was also top notch. I would highly recommend the caviar, lobster black truffle risotto, and the wagyu sampler. No leftovers whatsoever! We enjoyed every bite of our food. Overall, would highly recommend this place. Be sure to make a reservation online as this place is pretty popular! Great for a romantic date night!

The food is amazing, first time there last night Feb 20 2026. We had escargot bone marrow, crab & spinach artichoke dip, the yacht seafood tower, Wagyu carpaccio, lobster stuffed mushrooms, the French laundry tomahawk, Mac n cheese, asparagus, caviar bump, mushrooms and onions. Everything tasted great cooked to perfection. The service was on point, Jamie did an awesome job. Love the ambiance low light music that set the vibe right. Definitely coming back for sure.

Beef Wellington
Karly H.

Blown away! My boyfriend took me here for my birthday this past weekend and we don't eat red meat often, but this is by far the best steak I've had in my entire life. The beef wellington was also phenomenal. The french laundry was an A4 Wagyu Tomohawk! (definitely special occasion type of pricing, so just be aware). Service was very attentive, I felt bad for the servers because we were in the corner and it was obviously very hard for them to squeeze through people to get our food and drinks in this small speakeasy. There was a live saxophone player when we first got there, and of course... the infamous fire dancer. Honestly, such a great experience with so many things happening in such a small and intimate space. It is VERY dark though so if you struggle with reading in the dark I would probably recommend using your phone light and bringing your reading glasses for the menu! We only ended up getting one drink each but the bartender is obviously a great mixologist.

I got a shot of this at the end of my meal. Perhaps on the house, perhaps given to every guest. Very nice, very potent.

I'm the type of person who needs a nice meal from time to time. To me, nice means authentic kindness within service and food that's excellent as a standard. A dim room. Maybe some cool drinks. You know the vibe. Went solo and sat at the bar. Bone marrow appetizer - pretty darn good. Best parts were the mushrooms and escargot on top. Wild how you get literally just enough bread. PLENTY of actual bone marrow, which is really rich. Very indulgent. 4/5 Steak & Lobster - requested medium, got medium well. Really cool presentation, though my sweet server was supposed to be charring my garlic and ended up setting the rosemary on fire - lol. Brought the steak out again, it was perfect. Lobster was INCREDIBLE. Super sweet and tender. Would have appreciated a fresh serving, but I understand food costs. 4/5 Forgot the name of my drink, but it got lit on fire as well. Very cool. It came in a metal skull, lol. Not much to it taste wise. 3.5/5 Service was interesting - mostly really sweet folks. Would come again with friends. All in,

Greyzen A.

Ask the Community - Gaslamp

How much is swinging tom hawk?

Depends but I’ve seen it anywhere from $169-200

What is the grade for the wagyu tomahawk steak ? Thank you in advance.

What time and how long is the Live Jazz? Thank you for your help and time!

Jerome played the whole time we were there, and we were there from 8-10. We tipped him and bought him a drink.

We are visiting and didn't bring any dressy clothes at all. Can we go in casual clothes?

They will provide jackets for men. Men any collared shirt will work. Outside of Jeans and T shirts they'll work with you

Wondering what restaurant on the LV strip is comparable to Gaslamp? If anyone knows the answer, I would love to hear it.

I've been to speakeasy's on the mainland where you MUST order a min of two drinks per. Does Gaslamp have the same rules? My husband is in cancer treatment and is not allowed alcohol. The food looks amazing though!

No, they don't have that rule. I'm allergic to alcohol myself, so I wouldn't have been able to meet that requirement.… Read more

Are kids allowed?

It's not good for kids because it is very dark and it's a bar. There are just a few tables and a few seat at the bar

What time is the last call for food?

I'm sorry I don't know the answer to your question. They open everyday from 4 pm to 1 am. Here's there number you can call to find out (808) 829-0226

Can we make reservations just for cocktails?

They have a $30 food minimum for each person in the party.

What is there price on Tomahawk Steak?

Are you talking about the "French Laundry" Waygu Tomahawk? It's $167

What exactly is the dress code?

From Gaslamp's text reminder: "Gentlemen are required to have closed toe shoes and a collared shirt. Ladies dress to impress, no bathing suits or gym suits. "

Are reservations required?

Yes they are! I recommend going early

Do you have to be 21 to enter?

No. You pass through the pub for entry but any age can be in the restaurant. My daughter is 12 and loved it. (Still, it is small and upscale & pricey so you may not want to.)

My husband and I decided to look at small venues and saw Maleana Gardens. Usually they do small weddings up to 20 people. I was a little hesitant at first because on their IG it looked a little too good to be true and I didn't hear much about it. After speaking with Cheri, the owner, she invited us to go down to their property and take a look for ourselves before booking. We totally winged it and went. The property is full of luscious tropical plants, amazing photo ops, and overall absolutely beautiful! It felt like we were on another island. Going through the process of planning (yes even for an intimate ceremony) can be stressful. Through out the process, Cheri was easy to get a hold of and so helpful during this crazy time.
