The bartenders are extremely rude. It also smells in the restaurant like piss and bleach, disgusting. I have been there several times and I have always said outside on the patio maybe that's why I didn't notice the disgusting smell of the restaurant. I had my wedding rehearsal dinner here and was far from blown away. Upon our arrival, 3 minutes after the scheduled start time, our food was already sitting out in the elements for god knows how long beforehand. At some point it began raining, and when I asked the bartender for some towels to wipe down our tables, I was met with snarky remarks, he flung the towel off off his belt loop in my direction, and disappeared. He was sure to remove our "private party" barrier, which was nothing more than a rope, the moment our event was scheduled to end. Came to experience the Booze Cruise brunch and was not disappointed! Stacie was our "cruise director" and made the whole experience fun and fabulous! Sat out on the patio for ten minutes or so. Several staff walked by, and there were a lot of staff walking around but no one offered us any assistance and every time we would try to get someone's attention, they would become incapable of seeing/ hearing us. We finally left. Sad, because the patio is beautiful, and seemed like such a nice place to have a drink and appetizer. Better luck inside, perhaps? read more

We had a social event at Gaspar's last night with over 100 business owners from around the area. They provided us with appetizers and just kept them coming for the full three hours. All the food was fresh, well presented and very good...and they gave us a nice variety to choose from. The staff was excellent and the drinks were generous. I've never been to Ybor before...but based on my experience at Gaspar's Grotto...I'll be returning soon! read more

We went to Gaspar's last summer and loved it, so we decided to go back again last week when we visited Tampa. We were lucky enough to get Nicole as our server BOTH times. She does an excellent job. Right on top of everything without hovering. The Cuban sandwich is crunchy, delicious and to die for. $2 shot and a beer all day every day is a great bargain and a lot of fun. Love everything about this place, staff, food, music if you have a group that wants a fun place to be then this is it. I came down by myself the other day and didn't have much time between errands so the addition of the hot dog cart was great. Quick lunch to go and its a Nathans dog. Gotta love that!!! San Man who prepared my dog was friendly and helpful. Sure can help tell you where everything in Ybor is located. I'm always impressed with Gaspars grotto, they seem to always improve. I was excited to try this place but I was underwhelmed! The restroom was a mess with trash cans over flowing. Our waitress seemed sweet but never came back to check on us or refill drinks. What's going on? We've been coming here EVERY Sunday for over 2 years to partake of some fabulous fish tacos and even better music from the Doug South Band. We are on vacation and 7 of us waited for the rudest hostess EVER to seat us. Not a smile. Not a hello. NOTHING. She was annoyed and in a horrible mood. We all just looked at each other surprised. Went in and she told us we had too many and had to split up at two separate tables. I said forget it and we left. They need a better person as the first face you see. Rudest person ever. read more

Employees that go out of their way to make sure your experience is perfect is what makes a great restaurant. Amanda is always exceeding expectations and makes dining / drinking here an easy choice. She is quick witted but even quicker behind the bar when it comes to whipping up a Moscow Mule or one of the best Bloodys in town. Not only does Amanda go out of her way for us but she does so with anyone that I've seen her interact with. Writing this review makes me want to get a drink served by Amanda right meow. We had a great visit. We frequented this spot back sometime ago, got caught up with life and came back for some good drink specials and their kick as wings. Tori was our server that welcomed us back, remembering our names despite being gone for so long. Big smile, great service and great memory... unlike me, forgot Tori's name but not her face. Another good thing about Gaspars is that they are one of the first restaurants in Tampa to ditch the plastic straws and started using the paper straw. I REALLY appreciate the effort that they have put towards protection our Mother Nature. Plastic is bad for the ecosystem for the fact that this is so much plastic polluting our waters, killing our fish, choking water foul (birds), and interfering with coral reef life and not to mention the toxic fumes it creates in the incinerators. The iconic Notorious Ybor City Pirate Bar has a wonderful new addition. The Galley @ Gaspar's Grotto is a golden buried treasure. How many times have I heard friends say, "I didn't know they had food."? Well I'll tell you. Quite a few. Friends, they have magnificent food and nothing on the menu is over $20, most of it far below that. Chef Craig Smith has put his own spin on his friend and mentor's, the notorious and (in)famous Jeannie Pierola, recipes. The new Galley menu is replete with Cuban, Caribbean, and New Orleans flavors. Smith doesn't stop there though; he lends a lifetime of world travels to a unique cuisinography that truly tantalizes the palate. One of my personal favorites is his Fish & Chips. A healthy fillet of fresh Halibut is battered and fried to perfection by the expatriated Brit. My experience with fish & chips is legendary. I've sampled this dish from Aberdeen to Anchorage, taking the Eastern route. Smith's is the best yet. His crème de la crème has to be the Snapper Mojito. Fresh from Florida's Gulf waters and served in a mint, mango and crab sauce infused with Coconut flavored Rum (Pirates love their Rum) this dish will have you running back for more. The patio at Gaspar's Grotto has evolved too. Now it's delightfully covered with three huge, European styled, umbrellas and handsomely landscaped with a variety of tropical plants. The ample outside bar and stage are both scenes of great performances. Live music is a staple on any given evening and for a pleasant Sunday Brunch. Brunch merits a review of its' own. It is outstanding. Service has improved markedly and now is comparable with any fine dining establishment. The server's "Pirate Costumes" are pleasantly appealing. Given it's evolution from a bar to a full service bar & restaurant The Galley at Gaspar's Grotto serves the expertly mixed drinks you'd expect. From a hammer time $2 shot & beer, to the best premium Margarita (Mixed with Partida Tequila and Partida Pure Agave) I've ever had. And best of all, I can bring my dog with me. Gaspar's Grotto is pet friendly all the time. The first Saturday of every month, it's a great time with Pets On The Patio. An off leash event that will absolutely bring a smile to your face. Arrrrr sh*ty barrrr!!!! Food was terrible and service was not very good. A drink cost more than an entree. Their website says they dress like pirates, not true. They wear t-shirts. Overall would not recommend. The lone good point was their special of a small beer and shot of well whiskey for $2 bucks. read more

Discovered this Cuban sandwich on one of my many trips to Ybor city with my bf. The first coupe of times the sandwich was spectacular along with the plantain chips that were excellent too, however the past few times haven't had such a great meal, one time the chips were old and seemed to be from the bottom of the barrel, then on another occasion they were out of plantain chips and charged me extra for French fries that I didn't want and the sandwich was dry. So I decided to give it another try yet again and this time I called ahead for a pick up and asked the girl on the phone to ask the cook/chef to make sure I got fresh plantain chips and to make it with love since we've had a few mishaps and instead I got bag plantain chips and asked for extra pickles and didn't get it.... read more

I have only been here previously at night for drinks - which is always a great time. Today I went for lunch and I must say the food was awesome. I got the pork belly burger, and it was honestly the best burger I have had in Tampa! If your a burger person it's a must try - it comes with giant pieces of pork belly on top which is delicious and also the aioli is amazing.
