I just went there and ordered a veggie plate with falafel's when I got home I was shocked. They gave me five microscopic falafel balls on top of a bed of dried up lettuce with no seasoning and a some hummus. They charged me $18.77 for what I don't know. Overpriced for what you get and it wasn't that good, small portions, my chicken looked shriveled up. This is Fremont and there are much better kebabs in the area. Put this place at the bottom. I have been supporting this place of business for over 10 years now, tonight was the worst experience I've had in terms of the end product. The customer service here is always polite and professional- no gripes there, this time however, my complaint is about the food. I called and ordered ahead asking it to be ready by 8:45 PM I get there at 8:44 PM and they forgot to make the order, "no problem, I'm sorry" the owner says, it'll be ready in five minutes. We know her well and I don't complain. I got my philly sandwich at 9:02 PM and the product I was given was completely abysmal, this sandwich cost me $16 and I am still hungry. I do not recall their sandwich being this tiny, mind you this was just for the sandwich alone and this was there LARGE. I asked for it to be made extra extra spicy, that wasn't the case. I even asked for an extra side of spicy sauce, and guess what, I didn't get that either. You either need to rethink these prices or you need to make your sandwiches bigger and more filling. Your combo plates can feed 2 they're so large, but this philly could never. read more

Came to this place after 3 years. Got the chicken wrap. This place has gone down the drain. I am currently having diarrhea as I write this review. The food was really bad, no spices, bland nasty chicken. The annoying lady is not there more who upsells you. The place looks run down now, very sad to see this place like this. Came here on a afternoon with the music playing so loud that it will almost deafen you. They try to upsell you for everything. Now they have different sizes for the food you order and a 3 dollar difference for every size. Small, Regular and Large. Ordered a "Large" chicken plate and a "Large" Sandwich and seasoned fries. The owner lady was constantly yelling at the 2 employees and jumping from cashier to kitchen to everything possible that she can do. Maybe trust your employees to do a good job and stay out their way. But throughout the time there I heard her constantly yelling and micromanaging those 2 guys around. This is how you dumb people down. No surprise that the food came out terrible. The pita bread and hummus were cold as if taken out from the fridge and put on the plate, not even room temperature. The hummus was sour, dont know if it had lot of lime or was just sour. The chicken and rice was so less in quantity. The fries were uncooked. Even the sandwich was so tiny with such less chicken. Even a McDonalds sandwich is bigger in size and this was 13 something dollars. I have been to Gaters many times but writing this review as this place is not the same anymore and the quality has gone severely down. An Underrated, hole in the wall local restaurant! I love establishments like this because it feels like you're family here. Tried this place for the first time because of good reviews unfortunately I did not get the food I was expecting based on the reviews and photos I saw in Yelp. Service=1 star: the two guys are friendly but lacking customer service skills. Very long wait for 1 order of a kabob plate (only 1 customer is being served in front of me but it took them at least 30 mins to complete my order). Food=1 star: the star is for the hummus side in my order. The veggies side is bland. The most disappointing of all is the meat in the combo kabob plate ~ it all all burnt! I did not open the box until I got back in the office, I was so disappointed to see the burnt meat ~ chicken, beef/lamb (not sure), and the ground meat. I ended up tossing most of the food in the box. Not worth paying $15.99 for it. I am definitely not going back to this place. This place has been around, but definitely not the same owners the whole time. I remember it being good the initial years (10+ years ago ). Then it slipped a bit (5 years ago), looking a bit sketchier with the service personnel always trying to haggle a deal, much like at a used car lot. Forward to present and it seems to have balanced out, with service people that are straight forward, okay food at decent prices. They definitely have a following as there are always young peeps either in line to order or sitting in their very cramped quarters. Been in a couple of times as of late to refresh my memory and here are some finds. Combo Kabob Plate ($13ish/3.5*) I chose their chicken kabob and the kofte kabob. Decent amount of food, no complaints there, plenty of meat, a bit of rice (probably basmati) and some chopped raw veggies that constitute as a salad. The chicken kabob was weird. It wasn't chunked in uniform pieces but rather weird strips. So it was kind of dry. It was also bright red/orange just like tandoori chicken. Tasted ok, but with the slew of afghan/Mediterranean places out here, there are tons that are better. The kofte was pretty good however. 2 patties of beef/lamb seasoned and griddled to dark brown. Real close if not identical to Afghan Chapli Kabobs. Super garlic-y though. A bit much for me, but a garlic lover would swoon for this. Another visit tried their "Steak" Wrap ($13ish w/soda//3*) And this is where I find many Mediterranean places to be a bit sketchy. It was straight from the "gyro" loaf, but just sliced a bit thicker, so it did have more of a "steak-y" texture. BUT it wasn't steak. There's also a "Gyro" part of the menu, which I deliberately didn't choose. The steak wrap was in another section, which I assumed was going to be different. To their credit, the meat was juicy as heck, even though it was technically "meatloaf". But this meatloaf unfortunately was very, very salty. Which is why I normally steer away from it. And I'm not a health nut that counts my milligrams of sodium. I halved my wrap and could only eat half. It was that salty. I did love the fact that they used legit lavash bread. So I dunno, may try something else. But with so many other options in the area, pretty much having the same food, just done better, it may be hard. read more

I really wouldn't want to sit and eat here but i love it for pick up. The staff is nice but you can tell they work hard, it's all business and no time for pleasantries. I usually call ahead for pick up. I find the quality consistent. The only thing I found inconsistent is the size of the French fries. Sometimes it's a lot and sometimes it's a little, it can also be overly salty. Speaking of the french fries they can be a little limp sometimes. Overall the qualities of the Gyros and the bread is pretty good. Keeping in mind what this place is over comparisons of other places it's more than 3 stars it's 4 stars. One thing for sure, it fulfills a need and it doesn't without any downside. The dolmas are good. This place has been in business 22 years. read more

What a gem! After my workout w/ Basho, I had a hankering for some protein and carbs. I checked my nearest bookmarks and knew in my heart that I had to come here. I worked on shoulders and did HIIT so the carbs was definitely needed (and justified). A super small restaurant, unpleasant setting but the service and clientele was purely awesome. It seemed like everyone knew each other. They all can tell I was new to the restaurant but that did not stop anybody from being friendly and welcoming to us. I ordered the combination plate (I love lamb) and I ordered Gavin a chicken plate. Had I took the time to read the reviews, I would have ordered the gyro because it was hella raved on their reviews. The order took about 10 minutes. I was starving. Gavin was hungry, too. I got out of the gym a little past 7PM so we were seriously overdue for dinner. I was excited and super anxious to dig in. Once our tray arrived at our table, I wanted to inhale everything including Gavin's plate. I stopped then realized that I needed to make sure he knows what is what before I touched my entree. From the salad, pita, hummus, and choice of protein... I made him eat all that he could before I gave him some water. My parents were very strict when I was kid; I couldn't have water until my dinner was done. Anyway. Gavin's chicken was flavorful but a tad dry, the hummus was creamy and thick, and the salad was fresh. My combination plate was pure perfection. The lamb was a little dry (just a little) but it was bursting w/ flavor. The rice wasn't fluffy but it was cooked al dente like it should be. Best part was the service and clientele. I've been to Gaters quite a few times now and I really do like their food selections & their prices. When you order a gyro from them, they really do stuff it with a lot of meat inside. At only $5.99 for their gyros as of 2015, makes it a very nice bargain. I especially like the option that you can pay with a credit card without any additional fees. A lot of these mom & pop restaurants usually only accept cash or forces you to pay a surcharge when you use a credit card. Not here! I've also ordered their combo meals (which comes with fries) and their platters before too (which comes with rice, a side salad & a pita bread). The fries are decent in their combos and I do enjoy the additional side items that comes with the platters; but they were on the smaller portions. I feel like this place is kind of family-owned in that they can change the rules of the game (ie: exceptions of Groupon, substituting items if they ran out..) but then also professional/established enough to be a chain. We ordered: -1 order of combination grilled plate with chicken and lamb, extra meat // They ran out of basmati rice, so they just gave us extra salad. Salad was also really mediocre. Just rated like diced up cucumbers, onions and tomatoes in sauce. -1 order of chicken wrap // not bad but just the wrap to meat ratio is too small. Also, the vegetables were not enough! -1 hummus with pita bread // Yum! You can definitely taste the freshness of the hummus. I didn't like the pita bread though..it's like the pita pocket sandwiches but cut in half. Not even warmed or anything! Pros: -Quick service. -Good menu options. Cons: -Why is everything so chopped up?!?! It's giving you the illusion you have a lot of meat, but in reality I was just eating the ends/leftovers of chicken...felt like I was eating crumbs. Tips/Observations: -Check-in on Yelp if you were to order more than $15 worth of food! You get the free hummus. -$3 for extra meat! Supposedly 50% more. -No tip needed for dining in or to-go! I have been going to Gater's for years and due to COVID Stopped, unfortunately today I went there and the quality of food is awful and very expensive. I ordered a large veggie plate and a large combo and one soda total about $45. When I got home the veggie plate was so small and without pita bread and the additional plate was also a very small portion. She add some mild spice on hers and for me none. The gyro plate included rice, pita bread, steak, and some veggies. I thought it was okay and wished I added spice for more flavor. This place is amazing!!! At first, when I called them to make a reservation, the owner made sure I get a seat by the time me & my friend got there. (As this place is really a "to go" sort of place.) This place is really small & has only maybe about 5 tables inside, 2 or 3 tables outside. I say, "so what?" When I got there, I told the owner who I was, and she made sure I got a seat as soon as a table of 4 was available, (as I was about half an hour earlier the time I told them I'll be there.) Man, is the owner amazing. She's like superwoman! She's like doing 1 billion things at once. Even though it was packed around that time (7ish) she helped every single customer to the fullest & made sure we all knew about the combo specials. Which, my friends & I had. The combo I had came with 2 kabobs; (1 lamb, 1 chicken.) It also came with basmati rice, hummus, pita bread & mediterranean salad w/ cucumbers, & tomatoes. (YUMMY!!!!!!!!!!) (It also comes with onions, but I asked not to put that in my plate.) One of the cooks was so nice, he gave me 4 pastries, an extra side of hummus & pita bread for FREE!! This place is definitely somewhere to go if you're picking up to go, and it gets really packed. Very popular. They also have Groupon & Yelp deals. Beware - I just ordered through Grubhub/Yelp and then went to pickup the food. Gaters was closed. No one answered the phone, the lights were off. They were supposed to be open until 10p, Grubhub charged me and sent confirmation. I had to spend 20 minutes on the phone with Grubhub to try to get a refund and they said it's going to take 3-5 days to process it. And also, nothing at all offered for the trouble, just stranded and hungry at now 9pm on a Sunday night.
