What can I say? I Am having a serious craving for Gaters tonight. (Which prompted me to let everyone else know how freaking delicious it is!) The portions are generous (and you can get extra meat for only a couple $$, which is worth it.) I always get a spicy combination plate. The meat is tender, juicy, flavorful and reminds me of a home cooked meal. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu, I've tried almost all of it and haven't been disappointed yet. Was delicious! We were supposed to go to the sushi place next door, but they were packed so decided to give this place a try. Ordered the combination kabob plate with chicken and lamb kabobs. A Greek salad, Pepsi and dessert entree that I forgot the name of. All were delicious and tasty. I thought the portions were small at first, but after beginning to eat I could tell that this was going to fill me up. The kabob plate had, in addition to the skewers, yellow rice, a light salad, hummus and falafel bread. The Greek salad was standard with feta cheese sprinkled on top. First the customer service -- rude rude woman took the order, then nickle and dimed us for hot sauce -- I have never been charged 50c for hot sauce. RIDICULOUS. Then they forgot our order for fries and when we went up for it they pretended we never ordered it and didn't give it to us. Price -- charged us $16 for just plate of kabob -- should have been 9$. but kept adding $ for extra rice and chicken. Somehow it went up another $7 and then the missing fries. The woman running the show is extremely overbearing and so so pushy. My friend and I ordered 2 combination plates, for which we were charged for the sides instead of including them as part of the combo. Went there on a lark after a boat ride around the lake. Got totally overridden by hubby dear (I'd suggested Jambas - yea, not my usual preference, but it was a hot day). Hubby loves shawarmas (from his military days in Saudi) so we decided to go ahead, especially since the sign said "halal" . That was a mistake. I got the chicken Mediterranean platter, hubby got the chicken shawarma wrap, and we got a veggie plate to try it out. Good Fast Cheap Eats: Gaters is good fast food style Mediterranean Food. This is one of the few places that you can get a combination of good tasting food & good portion size at a cheap price. For what it is (a fast food style place) the food quality here is good and the food portion size is above average. You can get yourselt one of their wrap meal for under $7 and a nice entree size meal for under $10. The entrees come with a very good selection of food. The chicken wraps are very good but are on the spicy side. The falafels here are some of the best in the bay area and may be worth stopping by in the neighborhood for either the falafel wrap. The 2 negatives I have about this place is the dolmas are not good at all and there is very limited seating here. Overall I would say Gaters is worth a quick stop by if you're in the neighborhood if you're looking for good, fast, and cheap Mediterranean Food. read more

The dude recommended the most expensive item on the menu and short changed me by giving me a kid sized meal. It came with a good variety of meats, however it was just a bunch of tiny pieces chopped up over rice. The small portion of meat was too salty and way too oily. First of all, they are very generous with the meat, they don't rip you off at all. haha, we felt like we had too much meat, which in our husbands point of view, "GOOD! Why eat veggies?!" Middle Eastern fare done right. Owner is a caring individual who aims to please, and I bet you walk away pretty damn happy. A random drive-by with some fellas from work, and we ended up in a delicious spot that will most certainly enter the rotation. I wanted shawarma lavash sandwich, but got talked in to getting the mixed plate by the owner. Came with both lamb and chicken that had been sliced off the rotisserie and then grilled. Add in rice, some side salad action, and a complimentary scoop of hummus, and you have the makings of a really good plate of food, for around ten bucks. I bet many other things there are just as good, as I don't see this place really serving any bad food, as everything I had was pretty flavorful. Love Middle Eastern food, love me some hummus, baba, and shwarma, and was not disappointed with their offerings here. I will be back, and on the regular, and if you are looking for this style food and are in Fremont, stop searching, and just go here. You will thank me, and you will be quite pleased with your meal. I've been to Gaters before the owner change, during the owner change, and when they changed back to the original owners of 2005. Anyways... I would strongly recommend the chicken wrap. The meat is tender and juicy, and the price is good at about 5.50. There's also a Baskin Robbins next door which is hard to beat! I haven't been disappointed by the wrap yet, but a few of my friends who have strayed away from the chicken wrap were a little less than happy with what they got. But, based on the chicken wrap, I'd give it a 5/5 but since it's not... Bottom Line: Good Chicken wraps... that's really about it... Try take out, because the seating is a little limited. read more

Every time I come here the lady, (I believe she's the owner) gives us attitude when we ask for their white sauce. She's really cheap with the sauces and very unprofessional in manner. Oh dear God this place is AMAZING. The food here is absolutely delicious. I've been to dozens of middle eastern restaurants in San Jose and they cant compare to Gater's. I came here 2 times with my sister-in law and I always get the chicken kabob with rice. They cook it to perfection and the humus is SO GOOD. I also had the lamb kabob, i'm not a person who likes lamb but hands down this is the best place to try it. The spice and everything is good and it's not to chewy. Also try there baklava! Best I ever had! It's not to sweet (: Every time I came here the customer service is really nice. I would meet the same guy and he would greet us with such enthusiasm and a smile which makes me happy. This place is the best. I am a huge fan of middle eastern and Mediterranean cuisine. Moving from Michigan, I knew I would miss being so close to Dearborn (highest concentration of middle eastern people outside of the Middle East). This place definitely makes me feel at home with the best dolma, marinated chicken, lamb, and of course hummus. If your on the fence, jump over, you'll love it. It was one of the best tasted food once, but a bunch of part timers working here don't even know how the Mediterranean food need to be prepared. Last 4-5 visits to this place was really disappointing. The chicken philly sandwich tasted horrible. The shawarma chicken is not cooked completely. They are chopping the chicken off before its completely cooked. Platter was no different. If you ask them to make the food spicy, they will pour hot sauce all over it. Ambiance: 2 stars: It's quite small and a bit grungy, so definitely sit outside if you can help it. The place is located in a strip mall. There aren't any bathrooms for public use nearby. Food: 3.5 stars: We didn't have any complaints about the food, but it wasn't particularly memorable. Honestly, there are much better places in Fremont to go to, but this place isn't bad by any means. We ordered a mixed gyro platter, a chicken gyro platter, falafel, and baba ganoush. We also got drinks and the free hummus, which was pretty good. Everything was fine except for the falafel and its tahini dip, which was oddly...sour? It was odd. The chicken was much better than the gyro, which looked like a premade ground beef/lamb mix that was on the rotisserie. The pictures showed actual meat pieces on the gyro, but that day, this wasn't the case. Nevertheless, the meat gyro was fine. If this place were a street vendor, I'd be happy. I think I expected more because they have a physical location. Service: 4.5 stars: The man who took our order not only brought the food to us, but checked up to see if we were happy and asked how it was when we were returning the trays.
