It took me years to ever find a hair stylist I was happy with. After much failed attempts I resigned to just waiting till I go to Asia to visit family and will only then get my hair cut. But this all changed when I found Mio. She is by far the most talented stylist around. She is an award winning creative stylist who's produced artful styles that's been published in many reputable magazines and have worked with many celebrities. She takes styling to the next level -- she isn't just a hair stylist, but an artist. Despite all this though, she is modest, honest, and such a joy to sit with. And even for simple non-adventurous hairstyles, she is immaculate. Her attention to detail is like no other. A haircut from Mio doesn't only look good as you walk out the salon, but will grow out perfectly and will stay stylish and looking good until 6 months and beyond. This is where good and bad stylists differ, people. Even when I got a short boyish cut, a cut notorious for a painful grow out process, I was able to sport the growing out hair for over a year without ever feeling like a moppy mess. This is true talent. The salon is beautiful as well. It is overflowing with light and has a wonderful energy, and is filled with bright and pleasant people. It is always such a treat to walk into Trio. I live in NYC now and always fly back for hair cuts with Mio, and will forever get my hair cut only from her no matter where I'm living in the world. Trio's quality has really changed for the worse. I remember years ago that this salon used to be on all the top lists of Chicagoland. This is not the case and it really because of the quality. When I came in years ago, I had great haircuts and the stylist just completely understood what I was saying and she delivered. I walked out of the salon looking like a million bucks. I can't say the same. Now, stylists are trying to convince you how good they are instead of their work speaking for itself. Communication between customer and stylist is a miss. Aaron is a great stylist. Your appointment will feel like hours because he is so precise (and I mean this in a good way), don't fret, it will really only last an hour or so, it's just so great when someone is great at what they do and make you feel like they are truly interested in you and their work . The only reason I won't give the place 5 stars is because the other staff and atmosphere is not all that great. It's a bit stuffy. read more

UPDATED 5/6/2016: First, the positive. I absolutely adore Nikki. I have been going to her regularly for years for my Keratin treatments and she is nothing short of professional, wonderful, and an absolute delight to be around. I completely trust her and though I do not get my hair dyed, I hear she is a fantastic colorist as well. She is the reason I continue to come to Trio. I should also mention that, overall, the staff is very friendly, courteous and happy to provide recommendations - this includes the gracious owner, Alex. I really appreciate that. I also really loved the Baba & Theo line he created. I've had friends try the products and they love them too. Particularly the hairspray and the shampoo & conditioner..and I think they cost less than the other salon brands they carry, and also work much better in my opinion. Unfortunately, the line was sold a while back and is no longer carried at the salon. Now for the bummer. I wish this could be my one-stop shop for all things hair, but ever since Aaron left (omg what incredible cuts!), I've had a hard time finding a stylist I love. I actually got a couple of bad bang trims at Trio as well - I know bangs are difficult, I get it, but I shouldn't have to resort to cutting them myself or walking out feeling embarrassed by how they look until I can get home and try to fix them or wait for them to grow out. I do remember thinking the cut Mio gave me was really nice but I came in for a bang trim a couple months later and unfortunately got stuck in terrible traffic. I felt awful about it and called the salon to apologize on my way there and let them know I was running late, but the reaction from Mio was pretty off-putting once I arrived. Though the staff was nice about it and set me up with someone else to cut my bangs (kudos to the staff and the person who trimmed my bangs), Mio ignored me and whispered something to someone on the staff and I was told she can't help me. I get it, I was late, but the way she handled it caused me to never reschedule for a cut with her and made me uncomfortable. Also, the person who did cut my bangs was very sweet and I'm sure she's a great stylist but she did not cut them the way I like and I walked out really dissatisfied. I will continue to go to Trio for my hair treatments but have given up on finding the right stylist there. read more

I went here for waxing. It was a little expensive, but the lady who does it was very professional and quick. Unfortunately she went so fast that some strips of hair were left behind, but the rest of my skin has remained smooth over 2 weeks later. It helps to have someone else do waxing for you because it can be really messy. read more

Started coming here when I wanted a totally different hair cut and met Maggie at Trio Salon. She was very patient and helpful in trying to pick a haircut that worked with my face shape. I first met Jeri over 10 years ago and I have never been disappointed. I went in with the Groupon for the Brazilian Blowout. They were very professional, and did a great job. The pre-treatment wash, was pleasant, and comfortable. I have gotten Brazilian Blowouts done twice already (at various salons) and they did a great job. The trim post-treatment was done well. I have very thick hair, and they thinned the ends well to make it not look too blunt. They took a little too much length off during the trim, but the trim looked good nonetheless. read more

I used to get my hair cut here and it was just OK. It's a really cute atmosphere in a little house on Walton Street. Brooke was my hairdresser and she did a great job cutting it, but I wasn't thrilled with her styling skills. I realized that for what I was paying I could go somehwere else and get an awesome haircut and style. I've been jumping around from one hairdresser to another since Brooke because I'm extremely picky, but so far I've been happier with all my recent salons over Trio. read more

I've gotten my hair done here a couple times already and it has always been a good experience! I got my hair done by Harlow and she was great! She was very knowledgeable when it comes to what color or products to use with current hair condition. I asked for a plum/burgundy color and she mixed the colors very well. Renata is a magician with hair color. I'm a strawberry blonde and I get red/blonde/gold highlights/lowlights. She makes my hair look fantastic every single time. She makes it look so natural that many people are surprised to find that I get highlights I have also had complete base color done with Renata before. Now I stick to just highlights and lowlights - we tweak it just a bit with each visit and I somehow like it more each time. I have never been disappointed and I've been seeing Renata for almost two years. She's the best! read more

I went in recently for the Brazilian Blowout deal on Groupon. Nikki did a wonderful job! She was attentive, answered all questions and gave good info to go home with. She is a gem & I love my hair! Thanks, Nikki! This salon is in a great location but with limited street parking, so beware. Be sure to factor in the nearby parking garage cost to your overall service cost. This is a cute, hip salon but really needs some maintenance. The floors are very dingy looking. Also, the area where they wash your hair is really gross looking. I really hope the owner takes the revenue from the recent Groupon deal and does some updating to this cute salon. read more

I have nothing but great things to say about Elea and Ramsay - they both made my first experience at Trio great. I used the Groupon to get the Keratin treatment with Elea and wanted to give it some time before I wrote this review. It's been a few weeks and I am extremely happy with the results. My hair is thick and curly/wavy and frizzy. Now my hair blow dries in no time and when I wear it curly it is a little more relaxed and definitely less frizzy. Elea was super knowledgable and experienced with the process. She does color as well and I def be coming back to her to brighten up for the summer. I came to Ramsay for my first cut and wash after the straightening. She gave me more layers than I think I am used to but they definitely work better with my hair when it is both curly and straight than my blunt cut did. OH! She did a great job on my bangs! I feel like I am constantly struggling to find someone who gives a great haircut AND does bangs well and she was the full package. read more

BEST CUT- THERESA. BEST COLOR-DIANA. Hands down the best cut and color specialists in the country. I've been going to these women for almost 13 years now and during that time I've been forced to try other salons because of traveling constantly for work and having since moved to LA. I have tried several stylists in LA, NY, Mexico and Canada and no one compares. I've learned my lesson after countless times of getting my hair butchered by someone else and then always running back to Theresa and Diana to fix it. I have been getting my color done by Blue for a couple of years (I was referred by the pickiest hair person I've ever known, so I knew going into it he would be good), and I can't tell you enough what a great job he does. I literally feel like going out somewhere every time I leave him, even if its a Tuesday night! I have even gotten comments from strangers about how much they like the color, which at first was unexpected, but it has happened frequently enough that it doesn't surprise me anymore....I just tell them where they can go to get it! Blue is very easy to get along with, listens to what you want, and cares about the way you look and feel after he works his magic. I'm not one to enjoy the process of getting my hair done, but I do enjoy going to see Blue and love how I feel when I leave. At Trio Salon, there is a trifecta of colorist, stylist, and eyebrow wax. I have Asian hair and had gone to several salons beforefinally finding Trio. The colorist, Coco and the stylist Jeri are both artists. Coco has done several movie stars who have been filming in Chicago and she specializes in using multi-colors to give a more natural look. Jeri has also styled hair for several actresses and has a flair for creating cuts that are stylish and professional. Both Coco and Jeri are terrific in cutting Asian hair. Nicole, the brow wax person has worked in several of the best salons in the US. She is the best brow person I've ever had. read more

Terrible. Went to Mio with one simple request which she forgot to do. Went back and Alex the owner only partially fixed. Returned a 3rd time on a day they were supposed to be open but WERE CLOSED. We had snow that morning. Returned a 4th time and Mio attempted to fix. She made it much worse. I look like I have 2 completely different hair cuts on each side of my head. I've since gone to another salon that acknowledged the Edward Scissor hand cut and will begin the fixing process once it grows a little. read more

TRIO is awesome!!!! Coco and Kim did my color and cut (respectively) and it all turned out amazing!!!!! I have never had someone else color or cut my hair like these two! Honestly, I am blown away. Got my hair touched up last saturday. OMG! It was my first time here and they got me right!! I have an ashy to golden blond natural hair color. I always get a little color when fall arrives to match my summer ends to my "up and coming" winter roots. Since my hair stylist moved I've hard a hard time finding a colorist who can match my color and make it look natural w/o over adding red tones. Eilia did a great job! The Shampoo was relaxing and I enjoyed the scent of the products. I didn't get the name of the stylist whom trimmed my ends. I just moved to the area from Washington DC where I had a stylist that I was obessed with. In all four years ever gave me a bad "do" and knew what I wanted (and would look good) without me even having to tell her. I would get compliments all the time on the cut and highlights and she literally gave the best blow outs ever. So when I moved to Chicago I was nervous to find someone that would meet my high standards and replace my old girl. I got a glowing recommendation from a coworker to go to Trio so I figured I would give it a try. Nikki did my color which turned out great. She was able to match the color I had already had and my roots, even 8 weeks later, it looks good. She asked a lot of questions about my preferences and style and was just generally super sweet to talk to! Highly recommend. Kim did my cut. She was also a doll. Since she hadnt seen my hair dry (came in after the coloring began) she first blow dryed my hair completely straight and then started cutting. While I ended up with a few more layers than I would have prefered (I like blunt but angled), the cut was good and what I needed (it had been awhile with the move). I will for sure go back and just be more specific plus this time she will know my hair, cut preferences, etc better. Like I said, I am super picky and am headed back to Trio and back to both Nikki and Kim and would highly recommend to others as well!! read more
