Corn bread, Mac & cheese, large chicken dinner and collard greens
    Help Y.

I am a sucker for when I'm craving chicken, mac&cheese and just so happens all the sides I like to eat. So I'm always down to try spots serving up southern style dishes. I reallllyyy like the chicken at this place and since I love Mac & cheese, thiers was very good too! The collard greens was also good. It wasn't tooo salty. I would definitely come back for lunch again til I try everything!

This restaurant just saved my life. The food and service is impeccable!!! The fish was so fresh. Beautiful souls. The establishment is nice and clean, beautiful decor. I'm Going back every time I'm in town, I have to try everything on the menu. I'm so upset my storage was full so I couldn't take pics of the food but trust me it did not disappoint!!

    Mac & Cheese

Sigh, I'm not one to post reviews regardless of the food or service. As a business owner I know how much this hurts a business BUT I feel forced to say something. I feel like I just got robbed. Paid $8 for this Mac n cheese. Boxed Mac n cheese is sadly better. The price for the portion given and quality of food just doesn't seem fair. Hope they can do something about this but we definitely won't be returning.

I remember going to Gee gees back when they first opened in Olneyville and they were pretty amazing. They closed their brick and mortar for a while which was a bummer but now they're back and better than ever y'all! They are not updated here on Yelp but that's what I'm here for. They are now on 539 Smith St., Providence RI 02908 (Right in the ALDIs plaza. The place is NICE y'all (see below for pictures), I put in an order to go and will update y'all on if it's as great as I remember but I doubt it won't be. You'd be a fool not to stop by. I got the chicken dinner with Mac and cheese and collard green which they make with smoked turkey and Genesis who was cashing me out gave me a sample of the yams because I was indecisive (picture included). Food update - hold on while I finish licking my fingers...yess, they still smack down on the throw down. The chicken was crispy and juicy, Mac & cheese was cheezing, collards will put you in a chokehold, and yams were nice and cinnamon-ny. Everything well seasoned ‍ I'll be back with friends, colleagues, and everybody and their momma. Run y'all, they are a gem!

Chicken Wings, catfish, candied Yams, Potato Salad, Collard Greens, Mac & Cheese, and Corn Bread

Do not spend your money here. $60 for this food. It was not worth $10. The chicken was dry and unseasoned with literal feathers still on the chicken. The catfish was so dry I could stand it up and it didn't fall over. The yams tasted like cinnamon. That's it. Nothing else, just cinnamon. As if I was partaking in the cinnamon challenge. The cornbread was soooo grainy and had the weirdest sour aftertaste, they also left a weird filmy texture on our tongue. The greens were awful. It was like eating leafy vinegar. The mac and cheese was honestly one of the worst mac and cheeses I have ever had. It was not creamy or cheesy at all. It was like a sour sponge of sour gross cheese and oil. The only redeeming thing about all of that food was the potato salad. It was okay, I liked the consistency and the flavor wasn't bad. Food is overpriced, extremely unseasoned, chicken is clearly not cleaned properly (which leads me to believe that kitchen is clearly not sanitary and up to safety standards), and everything is either dry, sour, weird filmy texture, or all of the above. Go to Popeyes before even thinking of coming here. I ordered based off of the pictures posted. They should be shut down for false advertisement. The food looked SO GOOD in the pictures. It's so wrong of a company to post a couple pictures of good looking food and then to serve this garbage to paying customers. I will never even think about spending money here again. I would strongly advise everyone who thinks about coming here to literally go anywhere else. This food is an insult to soul food everywhere.

Smothered Pork Chop, Steak Rice, Collard Greens and Cornbread. When I say home cooked soul food, I mean like grandma used to make. Chops (notice I said chops as in 2) were well prepared, just enough breading to hold the gravy, tender to the chew, steak rice was flavorful with huge chunks of steak, onion and pepper. Collards were tender but no way soggy, just firm enough to give a good chew. Overall an amazing dining experience. PEOPLE, SOUL FOOD IS IN PROVIDENCE AND ITS AT Gee Gees Southern Cuisine. You are missing out if you don't go. I'm jussayin.

Food was just okay. My critique is that the fried chops were soggy. You need to find a way to keep the moisture out of the fried foods container because the crispness is gone. Wrap them separate in foil and do not put them in a foam container. I had to refry them to get the right crispness back. A lil disappointed by that and the chewiness of the pork chops. Spend good money and should get what you order. Fried not fried and soggy. And the ribs tasted old and were not fall off the bone. I just cannot. My second time here and disappointed again. I do not know if I will give it a third try. 30.00 for old ribs. Not cool!

I really wanted to love it. Im all about supporting local businesses. Decided to have something different for dinner and been wanting to try this place. I think my only disappointment was the 1 wing dinner seems more like a kids dinner with just 1 wing serving. The food although very flavorful it was a bit saltier than what I am used to. And I suggest calling ahead to order because my wait time for my small dinner order was 30 mins Im sure its because it was cooked fresh well the meat at least. Other than that its a cute little spot and clean inside.

Corn bread looked like this because I couldn't wait to get home to eat it lol was delicious!

Is everything served on styrofoam? I know that's pretty "authentic" for southern food but also kinda gross.

"Hey Foo, good to see you, have a seat." said Antonio. "Menu please?" "Of course. Specials are on the board, what will you have for a drink?" "I'll have a Canadian Club Manhattan." "How about Rittenhouse Foo?" "Sounds good Antonio, best bartender but how about Crown Royal?" "Foo, relax, I'll make you a nice drink," said Antonio. "Hey Antonio," Foo says, "I'll have a cheeseburger, medium, no bacon, fries is okay." As Antonio put down my Manhattan I told him that I was at 22 Bowen's and ran into Chef Eric. Antonio said Eric invented the grind ratios for the Slow Rhode burgers. "Well, Foo believes you best burger in city. Not in state but in city," said Foo. Antonio said, "Who best in state?" Foo, me, the reviewer of the review leaned back in the barstool, looked around the funky ambiance space, and stroked the long scraggly beard Foo tries to grow and said, "I believe best burger is Clarke Cooke House on English muffin with the Gorgonzola." "Really?" "Yes, but one that beats that is Newport Creamery Big Beef patty melt!" "Yo homes, that's a tasty burger," said Antonio. "Righteous!" Foo yelled while giving daps and hugs to Antonio all while jamming a massive stack of grat, all tens, into his pocket and yelling, "My name Foo!" and disturbing the nice people at Slow Rhode. Foo loves Slow Rhode.

Luckily, there was a perfect corner of the bar had just opened & we grabbed the seats. The atmosphere was convivial, upbeat & super comfortable, despite the crowd. Service was fabulously friendly & competent - the bartender handling the packed house with ease. We decided to go with an array of small plates to try as much as possible. The menu it designed perfectly for grazing & the prices are super reasonable! The selections are definitely on the comfort-food side with a strong southern hint. Ingredients are often locally sourced - something I greatly admire. We began with the a small plate of Pimento Cheese Toast. Just a few bites each but a nice start. Duck Drumettes. The horseradish-y white sauce was delectable! Even my non-duck loving partner was blown away. I was happy to hear that the salad was available in a half portion - enough for a light fresh break to our heavy selections. Next came a much heavier choice - the gravy fries with duck confit. We left off the cheese, but it wasn't missed at all. These were decadent, delicious & super filling! Next time we'd get a half portion - that would have been plenty! Our final dish was the Shrimp & Grits, but we'd already filled up on the other dishes & ended up asking for this to go. Even reheated, it was a perfectly delicious accompaniment to our brunch the next day! I'd be tempted to order this to-go again for just that purpose. While we didn't imbibe, the cocktail list looked wonderful & the bar was very well stocked. We did enjoy a nice selection from the interesting beer list. The sandwiches that we saw come out looked delicious & huge! We'd love to try them as well. We will be back - this is certainly a new favorite for us!

As a non-chicken eater, I ordered salad, hush puppies and the catfish sliders. I was also excited that they had a number of local beers on draft. The salad was pretty average and underwhelming. The hush puppies were also just okay. The catfish sliders were the tastiest of the three but I did find a small piece of bone in one. We chose this restaurant because it was close to an event we were attending later in the evening. Since the chicken was well received, I might come back with other chicken enthusiasts, but unlikely I'd check back here myself. Service was pretty speedy but although we requested separate checks at the start of the meal we still got a combined check and had to ask again for the split. Ambience is nice with a bit of a bistro flair and cute chicken themes. The process of making a reservation here is awkward. You have to request the reservation and then they email you later to confirm it. Would be much more convenient if they did Open Table or Resy. Limited parking too. Their lot is small and we had to park on a side road, which was not a big deal as the road seems to be in an industrial area and was not busy.

I'm glad I made a reservation! Our server, Ayden, made the whole experience very special! He was personable, available & fun to chat with as he is also a semi-professional wrestler. We were there to try the nachos as they looked delicious when other diners ordered them. WOW! It is a HUGE platter of chips topped with shredded monterey jack, homemade black bean corn salsa, beer cheese queso & a drizzle of guacamole & sour cream. I asked for extra queso because I like everything to be smothered & that it was! Two people could easily make a meal of this platter alone. And we didn't even add any protein (pulled pork, grilled or crispy chicken option)! Not knowing the size of the nachos, we wanted to try something else. I asked Ayden: quesadilla or Nashville naan. He said for former but we felt that we were already doing a Tex-Mex inspired dish so we opted for the latter. On top of naan, crispy chicken with mozzarella, smoked bacon, scallions & house-infused hot honey drizzle. A good amount of toppings & the naan was delightfully chewy. I thought it was going to be Nashville hot spicy given the name but you have to order Nashville hot or buffalo chicken for an additional charge. We added a good amount of Cholula to kick it up a notch! Definitely a good return visit. Thanks Ayden for making us feel special & being such a fun person.
