I used to come here a lot pre-COVID and during COVID, but honestly it's fallen off a bit since then. Decided to give it another shot on a Friday evening. I will say, they've added more options to the menu, which is a nice change. I tried some of the newer, non-BBQ items and they actually weren't bad at all. That said, compared to spots like YakiniQ (my go-to), the meat marinades here just don't hit the same. Overall, not terrible, but not quite what it used to be.

Gen Korean BBQ is a fun all-you-can-eat spot, especially if you're going with friends or a group. The regular dinner menu already has a good amount of options, but if you want wagyu and better cuts of beef, you do have to upgrade to the premium menu, which is about $20 more than the regular dinner price. I think it's worth considering if you really care about meat quality and want to try the nicer cuts. The experience is still enjoyable either way because you can order a lot and cook everything at the table. Overall, it's a good place for Korean BBQ cravings.

Came for the about 10th time now and loving all the impgorem! The portions sizes are definitely much bigger now so that's appreciated. The food is also coming out much faster than before when there were long waiting times (10+ minutes). A separate shoutout to our waiter Alex (worked on Saturday 4/4 at around 12 pm) who was very attentive, fast, and polite. Will be back againt :)

We came in after hearing their lunch AYCE was one of the more affordable options around, and for the price point, it delivers solid value. Service was attentive and efficient, refills came quickly, plates were cleared without asking, and the staff kept things moving without making us feel rushed. The food itself was good, not exceptional, but fair for what you're paying. We went through three rounds of steak along with several other cuts of meat, plus a rotation of sides that were simple but satisfying. Nothing felt premium, but nothing felt disappointing either...it matched the expectation of a budget-friendly all-you-can-eat. If your goal is to leave full without stretching your wallet, this spot makes sense. It's not a culinary event, but it's a dependable, value-driven lunch option.

Valentine's Day at Gen is not for the weak. We joined the Yelp waitlist at 5:30 p.m. Estimated seating time showed around 6:46-7:06 p.m. We did not get seated until 8:05 p.m. So yes... bring patience. And maybe a snack. To be fair, it was Valentine's Day. The place was packed, chaotic, loud, very "love is in the air but so is smoke from 40 grills." Food We did the Premium selection. * Premium Wagyu - solid marbling, cooked beautifully on the grill. Worth ordering early. Our favorite * Marinated Short Rib (center cut) - tender, flavorful, dependable. * Skirt steak - good sear, but not life-changing. * Brisket - we tried brisket and honestly 1/5. Ever since they had the premium upgrade, I feel like the regular meat plates went down hill * Bulgogi fries - honestly? The sleeper hit. This plate disappeared fast. Overall, The meats came out consistently and quick! Service Our server was hustling. He grill swapped 2x and didn't forget us. Even got us napkins without asking and if you've ever been to Gen, this is gold Wait Time This is the category that hurt them. 2.5+ hours from waitlist join to being seated is a commitment. Especially for a party of two. If you're going on a holiday, adjust expectations accordingly. Overall Gen is still Gen. Good value for AYCE, fun group vibe, solid meat options. I like the upgrade.

Can never go wrong with gen for kbbq! Their sides especially the soy marinaded radish, salad, and potato salad are top tier. The service was kinda slow for a slow week night, but was still good. It's been so long since i've been back, but they have a handful of new meats. My favorites are the pork cheek, honey soy beef belly, and hawaiian steak.

We tried this Gen Korean for the first time to celebrate Grandma's birthday and had a blast! Parking can be tough in this single level shopping plaza, but very early Saturday evening at 4pm, it was manageable. The AYCE deal without the premium cuts seems to be the best value and has plenty to offer. For a party of six, we were seated with two grills. Everyone was very professional and friendly, and efficient about replenishing us with a fresh grill. The stand-out meat cut to me was the honey soy beef belly with the green onions...super flavorful! Thank you for a great time Gen Korean!

Dinner for Mother's day at Gen BBQ.

I bought two GEN Korean BBQ gift cards from Costco for $79, but their actual value was $100. For Mother's Day, I took my husband and child there to eat. I would rate the food around 3.5 stars, but the staff service definitely deserves 5 stars. I would suggest that the restaurant add a salad bar. Eating too much meat is not very healthy, and nowadays people should eat more vegetables. I hope the restaurant will take this into consideration.

Gen San Jose. What the hell is going on? A couple days ago I broke my boycott of Gen, my first regret of the New Year. Why was I boycotting? Because the service was horrendous. 10 years later, nothing has changed. Gen was our last resort to satisfying our late night KBBQ craving, as any other place we would have gone to was closed. Getting seated was rather quick, but once seated, we waited 15 minutes before flagging someone down. We were as patient as we could be, but after a while, it was just like.. what are we doing here. It came to a point where we considered leaving. We decided to stick out because we were hopeful it would get better. Spoiler alert: it did not. Lets get into these pictures, shall we? The rice paper was greasy and hard definitely been out for too long. The mash potato dish. Dirty as hell. The ring of red that could literally be scratched off? Insane. Bulgogi fries were sad, cheese isn't even remotely close to being melted. The last picture was the most comical. The black grill. Our server looked at our grill as he walked passed and didn't even think about changing it. Might as well just have shrugged in my face and told me we were SOL. Every single time we needed something we had to ask. Felt like we were bothering him. Our server did not come to us to check without us having to flag him down. On top of that, our plates were stacking up like Tetris at the edge of our table. I think the biggest note to make is that it was not THAT busy. And even if it were, we are very understanding, having worked in the service industry. But this, was just downright unacceptable. Another issue that we had was that not only was the service so damn slow, but people were just standing around. Doing NOTHING. I could have been fooled into thinking there wasn't management present, it was so bad. The only reason why this review is 2 stars instead of 1 is because the food was decent-ish. Banchan though, tasted as if it had been marinating since last year. Overall, theres a bare minimum standard that restaurants should operate at. Prompt greeting, quick ordering, checking in every now and again. Grill change. Clean dishes. Needless to say, Gen San Jose is not operating at that minimum. I will be boycotting for at least another 10 years, and hopefully by the time I return they either have their act together, or that location is replaced by a KBBQ spot that is not abysmal. Message to GEN Management if you see this: For the love of God, do something. This is just ridiculous.

Our group of 5 came to Gen BBQ around 6pm on a Sunday - we joined the waitlist ahead of time and were seated promptly after checking in. The space is very large and spacious, and surprisingly well lit at each table despite the darker club lighting ambiance. It is quite loud and chilly inside though. Service was very good throughout, and we were able to find someone to order or change our grill, and our server Sean was excellent and checked in to ask if we were doing okay or needed anything throughout our meal, which we appreciated a lot! The exhaust fans also work very well here and there was basically no smoke in the air. Dinner was $31/person (we didn't opt for the premium option). They have no physical menus, so you scan a QR code to look at the menu on your phone: qrco.de/bbZYzP here's the one from when we were there for reference! The quality of the meats was really good, and this location seemed a lot cleaner than some of the other Gen locations I've been to. I like that you order the banchan, salad and other side dishes and even sauces a la carte, so nothing goes to waste! we enjoy the galbi, chadol, and woo beasal as our main proteins, but always enjoy trying some other options from the extensive menu! Definitely get the radish and rice paper to go with your meats too. Overall, this was a great experience and I'll definitely come back to this Gen location in the future for the great service, cleanliness, and quality :)

We visited San Jose and ate dinner at Gen Korean restaurant . We loved the food , the quality meats like bulgogi, riblets, pork chops and steak. Our waitress was awesome, very attentive and helpful. It was fun to cook the food. We will go there again soon.

I've always enjoyed coming to Gen Korean BBQ because of the great vibes and energy the restaurant gives, along with their amazing selection of delicious dishes. I always recommend this spot to friends and family visiting from out of town and they always say the same thing, that being it is very flavorful food and they plan to visit it every time they're here. Our server was very friendly and polite as well, keep doing your thing Gen!

My friend is allergic to sesame and nuts. He wants to eat at GEN but is unsure if the food here contains what he's allergic to. Are there ways to accommodate my friend and his allergies?

They have a laminated allergy menu, ask for it. There's a lot of sesame, but there should be safe I marinated meats. There's no tree nuts, and peanuts are only in the hotteok.

When is this place not busy? The only two times I've been here has shown me that they are quite popular so they get quite a lot of customers. Also, is it okay to go alone, like you don't need to go with multiple people?

The Chinese sausage pieces sprinkled throughout added extra flavor too. The bowl is deep so there seemed to be roughly 5 cups of rice. Unfortunately the laksa shrimp fried rice was disappointing in comparison. It didn't have much flavor overall - better than plain rice but definitely needed more seasoning. The menu lists homemade laksa sauce as an ingredient but we didn't taste that, and the dish wasn't spicy at all either despite the 1 chili pepper rating. But it looked just like the menu picture so maybe the description is wrong. Fried chicken with tom yum sauce came with 6 pieces. Very juicy. We also enjoyed the herbal roasted prime steak with sausage rice. The delicious rice had the taste of fish sauce. Most of the short rib slices were soft and a few were slightly chewy but overall decent quality. Some of the fattier pieces of meat were still attached to the bone.

I came here on a Friday evening with my friend to grab dinner around 6:00 PM. The wait was around an hour, so be very prepared if you're coming during the dinner rush. This spot is located where the majority of the Asian restaurants are in Milpitas, so it's safe to say the parking can get a bit hectic and intense. The interior of the place is very bright, modern, and clean. There is a lot of seating for a small space, but the reason they are so busy has a lot to do with the number of people wanting to check this spot out. When you sit down, you scan their virtual menu via QR code and order there instead of through a server. You have the choice to order on one phone as a group or separately. Between my friend and me, we ordered a beef mint salad, fried tofu, confit mushrooms, and truffle mushroom rice. I will say that when we first got the fried tofu and confit mushrooms, we were quite surprised by the small portions compared to the price. That said, they were delicious, but skippable if you're trying to find the best bang for your buck. What I absolutely would recommend is their truffle mushroom fried rice. This might have been my best bite this month. It was so savory, the mushrooms hit perfectly, and the coating of butter on the rice was supreme. It was $28 for a bowl, but it was a good value to split between two people. Overall, this place had great, fast service (our food came out in under 10 minutes), a nice ambiance, and fresh, flavorful food.

Given the short…read moretimeframe and large order size, they delivered everything quickly while serving great quality food. The service was fast, organized and the food was consistently great. If you're looking for a catering food truck for a small lunch window that delivers high quality and very quick service, I HIGHLY recommend Fire and Rice. Their Hawaiian Asian fusion menu is unique and stands out compared to other Asian or poke trucks I've tried. The garlic shoyu chicken and tuna poke were my personal favorites. I tried some of my coworkers garlic shrimp & Miso tofu too...surprisingly pretty GOOD! With inflation being what it is, their food is absolutely worth the price, and they were also flexible and willing to work within our reasonable budget. I can't recommend them enough. For catering inquiries, It was a little difficult getting them on the phone so we played phone tag a lot. I suggest texting or emailing Micah or Jessica for the quickest response, as they're often busy on the truck or during service.

Final Thoughts: 4.33/5…read more They were our caterer for a work party. This is a food truck and they seem to have everything ready to be served to us. Asian fusion foods are typically my go-to choice and so I was very excited that they were providing us food today. Food: Garlic Fried Chicken Bowl: 4.3/5 The sauce on this is divine with the chicken. It's like an unagi sauce with garlic in it. It has some saltiness, sweetness, and that umami flavor. Garlic taste and scent is present, but not too overpowering, which I really enjoyed. That flavor is great, but some places really overdo it for me. Just a personal preference though. For the chicken itself, it's very tender and juicy on the inside and still has some of that nice crunch on the outside. Perhaps this is because the cut of meat is the chicken thigh. It's not super crispy because I don't believe this is being fried to order for us. Seems to be food held in a warmer until its ordered. Kimchi was the side that they had provided with this dish and I am here for that. Some people aren't the biggest fan of this and I saw that from the looks my coworkers gave it. Personally, very much enjoyed it though. That sourness and spice from the kimchi just balances out this bowl really well. The veggies are nice and crispy. Gives it that freshness. Also, very slight detail and addition, but I always enjoy the sesame seeds and furikake sprinkle as a garnish. There's a nice nuttiness to it that they provide as a simple garnish. Spicy Tuna Poké: 4.0/5 This item was alright. The flavor was also really good, but I did get tired of eating just one type of poke protein. Typically when I go to get poke, it's 2 to 3 scoops of different proteins with various sauces to change up the flavor. I did get tired of this one after a few bites. The flavor of this item was very good though. There's a nice kick from it and the flavor tastes like a mix of kewpie mayo, soy sauce, sriracha, and sugar. Very simple, but you can't go wrong with those flavors. For the side, they added seaweed salad. Again, not your average side dish. Personally, I enjoyed it, but it might not be a common or familiar side dish for other individuals. It has a nice sweetness and nuttiness to it. For texture, there's a nice bite to it, which is ncie since the tuna is very soft and doesn't contribute much to the texture component. Menu: Small Their menu seems quite limited, but again, that is normal for a food truck, I believe. The items they provide do it just fine for me. I appreciate that they also have an option for the vegetarians. The menu we were provided was limited to 4 items, which is fine since the scale of this party wasn't anything too wild and we were able to satisfy everyone with what they provided. --------- Quality: Alright The quality of the food seems OK. It came out within a few minutes for us and I don't think it takes just a few minutes to fry that piece of chicken. I could be wrong though, so no one quote me on that. Just an observation. Not the highest expectations because their limited to the space and area in general. The product they provide is very good though. Overall, for something that has raw seafood in it, it seemed quite fresh and tasty. The items aren't made to order either and it's more assemble and serve to order, but again, they seem to be making it work with the product that they are selling. Price: Estimated Because this was a catering event, I am actually unaware of how much my administrator paid for the food. What I know is that she paid for a certain amount of bowls. From the looks of this item though, I want to estimate the price of each bowl being around $16 to $20 depending on the food item provided. Seems quite average for a bowl of food these days. Service: Quick and fast Because most of the food is already prepared and ready, the interaction with them itself is very limited. They took our order and provided us with the food. Nothing too significant to note and that is to be expected with the food truck. They were very sweet though and explained the menu items to be when I had a question. Ambiance: Simple and cute food truck The design on their food truck is so cute. The riceball is my favorite because it has this very cute face and just looks darling to me. The outside has a simple design with the name and logo on top and then perhaps some of the food items they provide written on the bottom section of the truck. Doesn't seem like anything too fancy, but simplicity is best for me. Location/Parking: Wherever they travel and navigate to Because they're a food truck, they can drive to you, which is really convenient. On Yelp, it states that their located on 36 Commercial Street in downtown, which might be where their truck is serving most of the time. Again, it is a food truck though, so they have the ability to drive to you and travel around to their customers, which is quite convenient is reaching a broader group of people.

CHECK YOUR BILL!!. I recently dined at Elyse in San Jose and wanted to share a mixed experience…read more First, the positives -- the food was genuinely very good. The dishes were well-prepared, flavorful, and thoughtfully presented. The overall ambiance was also enjoyable, making it a nice spot for a dinner out. Unfortunately, the experience took a concerning turn at the end of the meal. Our bill came out to $86.42, and I handed my credit card to the waiter. Within seconds (thanks to my card alerts), I received a notification that $103.92 had been charged. When the waiter returned with the receipt, there was no mention of any discrepancy. After waiting a few minutes to see if it would be addressed, I brought it up myself. The waiter appeared flustered and then claimed he had accidentally charged me for someone else's food. That explanation didn't align with the itemized bill I was given, which made the situation feel questionable. He assured me that it would be corrected and that I should see the adjustment in a few days, which I'll be watching closely. Mistakes can happen, but the lack of transparency and the fact that it wasn't proactively disclosed is what left a bad impression. Being overcharged without explanation -- and having to catch it myself -- is not something I expect when dining out. I'd consider coming back for the food, but I'd definitely be more cautious when it comes to the bill.

Final Thoughts: 2.50/5…read more My girlies and I went here for a simple dinner and to try it out. Very Asian fusion, specifically French-Vietnamese. Seems fine-ish dining vibes with the dim lights and modern interior that they have. While the whole experience itself was quite nice, the food is not the best and perhaps should still be in the works. It leans so much on trying to be Asian fusion, but the execution isn't there yet for me. Will push the 3 star today given the overall experience we had. Food: Prime Rib Phở (NO MSG): 3.0/5 This was the entrée that we shared. They give around 3 to 5 pieces of meat, which isn't the most ideal thing to see. The meat is tender though, so that's a plus. Given the cut of it, I really wouldn't expect anything less of this though. Speaking of see though, the presentation lacks a lot for me. There wasn't too much color in the bowl. Really just broth, the noodles, and the meat placed on top. Essentially that's all it is, but there's no pop of anything to it. The flavor of the broth is quite good though. It's a lighter, but deep flavor. Will attribute this to some kind of bone meat that they used versus loading it with MSG. The noodles were overcooked and more on the soft side for me. Not much of a bite overall. Grilled Pork Spring Rolls: 1.5/5 This was really underwhelming for me. The grilled pork was nothing extravagant. Crispy eggroll wrapper roll inside was stale. Lacking in body and shape. Each of the rolls were really small and thin and lacking a lot of the filling. Usually I find that other places will overstuff it with vermicelli and vegetables because those are the more inexpensive ingredients in the roll. Here, the proportions were balanced in a sense, but lacking in size. Their sauce is what gets me. I can understand the experimentation, but I do prefer the typical sauce that is used. Perhaps doing a variation of this sauce may be better versus changing it to a completely different sauce. This sauce was a spicy kaffir lime leaf sauce and the tartness and sour flavor just overwhelmed the whole dish, so it became less appetizing for me. Belgian Fries: 3.5/5 These were honestly my favorite item here. Umm...I can't say they're anything extravagant. They were super crispy and the right size for me. Some potato without being too starchy on the inside. The sauce is a truffle aioli and that was truly the star of the show. Most of the rating will be regarding the dipping sauce. It was very rich and the flavors were very balanced. The combination of the truffle with the garlic flavor contributes really well to the dish. Honestly comparable to Cajun fries. Shrimp Mango Ceviche: 2.0/5 Fourth item was also not my favorite at all. The curing sauce was just so tart and sour that it took so much away from the dish itself. Aesthetic wise, was very underwhelming. In my opinion, this would have looked better served inside of a rounder bowl?? versus a shallow plate. The plate just makes it look half eaten given the serving size. The chips were just chips, so nothing extravagant. Balance of shrimp to vegetables appears appropriate though. --------- Quality: Fresh The food items did come out hot. The fries were crispy. They claim their pho broth takes hours to make and I can only take their word from that. Waiters and waitresses seem genuine, so I shall trust them on that. Food appears to be fresh, so no concerns here. Price: Quite steep; $$$ The prices here are quite steep. With what I was served, the prices seem to lean more on the expensive side. I can understand that some ingredients are more pretentious, but I really can't say I would pay this much for what was served. Range is around $8 to $16 for smaller dishes and $20 to $40 for the entrees. Service: Amazing; A+ The service that we were provided today was amazing. The waitress and waiters are very nice and super attentive. They checked on us a few times after all the foods came out and refilled our waters as needed. When we were deciding what foods to order, they were also really patient in going through some of the food choices with us. Ambiance: Fine dining vibes The space really isn't that big and there are really only a few tables inside. The space is big and the ceilings are high, which again, leads me to feel that this place has the fine dining vibes. Interior is quite dim lit and has this calming and warm vibe to it. Location/Parking: Downtown Area/Parking Downtown San Jose is probably all I need to say for people to understand what I mean. IFKYK kind of a deal. I can't say the location is in a bad place per se because it is around this line of other restaurants and stores. The parking is terrible though and perhaps you will find yourself paring at the parking structures for a more affordable cost or a closer one for a more expensive price. The parking lot I chose is free for the first 90 minutes and then they start charging. For one of the closest parking lots, my friend paid $20+ for her ticket.

I love mochi, so I was really curious how it would work on a pizza. It actually worked surprisingly well. The chewy mochi added a unique layer of texture to the crispy crust and paired nicely with the other toppings. We also had a variety of pastas, both seafood and meat. The portions-especially the seafood and pork cutlet-were generous, and I really enjoyed the subtle sweetness in the meat sauce. The blueberry yogurt drink was beautifully presented. The little heart-shaped container held syrup that you can pour over the ice to turn it into flavored shaved ice, which was a fun touch. The matcha parfait was also tasty and a great way to end the meal.

The servers are very attentive and the wait time for the food is barely 10 minutes. Very efficient. The meals are great, the baguettes came with refilled. The whipped butter is light and creamy. I kept wonder if a drizzle of honey could amplified the taste. Pizza and pasta are obviously very taste and chewy. The restaurant is very nice and cozy as well, a mixtures of Japanese and Italian cuisines. It's a cutesy and vibrant, perfect for date. Overall, I think it's a wonderful experience and meals. Very unique concept!

Originally we had opted to go to a vegetarian restaurant but they stopped selling food at a certain time and we were hungry. We kept walking and stumbled upon Nomikai. We entered around 9pm and was seated immediately. The food closed soon and we got our order in during happy hour. We were impressed. The service was absolutely amazing and staff / patrons enjoyed our fit. The cocktails are beautifully crafted. Delicious yummy! As a cocktail enthusiast I had no complaints just keep them coming! The dude enjoyed his cocktail as well. We didn't drive so we overindulge because we can! At a certain point this establishment turns into a club more than restaurant and the line was out the door by 11pm. We did try the Brussel sprouts which was delicious and wished we would have tried more food but we were stuffed. They had great music, loved the decor and glad we stumbled upon this place! Can't wait to come back!

Checking another downtown bar off my list!…read more This is a Japanese-fushion bar with very interesting drinks. My drink contained gin, sake, black sesame, coconut milk, and orange blossom water. It ended up being sweeter than I expected but it was balanced with a strong nutty tone from the sesame and was overall a unique drink! My friends drink with sparkling wine and lemon was a little less interesting. We ordered the nori fries to share which came in a generous portion. My friend ordered the sausage and pepperoni pizza with Thai basil, which was a fun twist on a traditional Italian flavor. Unfortunately the 5 spiced duck pizza was not it - the duck was cut so small you could barely taste it and it was drenched in a way too sweet sauce that made it sickening. Logistics: - indoor seating only - Limited street parking nearby but close to light rail and several paid public garages - Only open Wednesday through Saturday - Happy hour until 9pm ($9 selected drinks and 20% off apps)
