    On the grill

I realized I hadn't been to this spot in over ten years! I think places like Goku and Seapot, where you get Korean BBQ AND hot pot have been my preference over just Korean BBQ. But Gen is definitely the original. We went for fourth of July, after calling to confirm they would be open. I think they said they don't close for holidays. For about $32 a person, you get all the meat you want. They have some kind of premium option, but the regular one seemed sufficient. There was no wait at all - plenty of empty tables. Service was pretty fast, and they were good about changing the grill out or bringing us more things when needed. They were out of Napa cabbage kimchee, which was annoying. I had to try the carne asada, and it comes with tortillas and salsa. It was actually really good. Actually all the meat they had was good, and we tried the garlic beef belly which I haven't seen at a lot of places!

I took my mom here for lunch as she has never been here. All you can eat lunch for $21.99. We picked four different types of meat and end up also getting a mild tofu soup, four different types of appetizers. We were so full. We had a late lunch. I end up not eating dinner because I was so full from lunch. Everything went well. Server Alex was great! Ambiance is great too.

I stopped by on a weekday for lunch. I got a seat right away. Most of the folks having lunch appeared to be on the early twenties. All you can eat lunch price was reasonable. There was a heated plate in the middle of the table, and I had to cook it. I was doing this for the first time, and had difficulty to get it right. Woo beasal and Beef bulgogi were my favorite meats. I had difficulty to get Chadol cooked right. After cooking for a while, I went for some cooked food and felt instant relief. Bulgogi fries, calamari rings, double dragon shrimp and pocorn chicken were all good. I also cooked some spicy chicken.

I used to come here a lot pre-COVID and during COVID, but honestly it's fallen off a bit since then. Decided to give it another shot on a Friday evening. I will say, they've added more options to the menu, which is a nice change. I tried some of the newer, non-BBQ items and they actually weren't bad at all. That said, compared to spots like YakiniQ (my go-to), the meat marinades here just don't hit the same. Overall, not terrible, but not quite what it used to be.

Came for the about 10th time now and loving all the impgorem! The portions sizes are definitely much bigger now so that's appreciated. The food is also coming out much faster than before when there were long waiting times (10+ minutes). A separate shoutout to our waiter Alex (worked on Saturday 4/4 at around 12 pm) who was very attentive, fast, and polite. Will be back againt :)

We came in after hearing their lunch AYCE was one of the more affordable options around, and for the price point, it delivers solid value. Service was attentive and efficient, refills came quickly, plates were cleared without asking, and the staff kept things moving without making us feel rushed. The food itself was good, not exceptional, but fair for what you're paying. We went through three rounds of steak along with several other cuts of meat, plus a rotation of sides that were simple but satisfying. Nothing felt premium, but nothing felt disappointing either...it matched the expectation of a budget-friendly all-you-can-eat. If your goal is to leave full without stretching your wallet, this spot makes sense. It's not a culinary event, but it's a dependable, value-driven lunch option.

Can never go wrong with gen for kbbq! Their sides especially the soy marinaded radish, salad, and potato salad are top tier. The service was kinda slow for a slow week night, but was still good. It's been so long since i've been back, but they have a handful of new meats. My favorites are the pork cheek, honey soy beef belly, and hawaiian steak.

Valentine's Day at Gen is not for the weak. We joined the Yelp waitlist at 5:30 p.m. Estimated seating time showed around 6:46-7:06 p.m. We did not get seated until 8:05 p.m. So yes... bring patience. And maybe a snack. To be fair, it was Valentine's Day. The place was packed, chaotic, loud, very "love is in the air but so is smoke from 40 grills." Food We did the Premium selection. * Premium Wagyu - solid marbling, cooked beautifully on the grill. Worth ordering early. Our favorite * Marinated Short Rib (center cut) - tender, flavorful, dependable. * Skirt steak - good sear, but not life-changing. * Brisket - we tried brisket and honestly 1/5. Ever since they had the premium upgrade, I feel like the regular meat plates went down hill * Bulgogi fries - honestly? The sleeper hit. This plate disappeared fast. Overall, The meats came out consistently and quick! Service Our server was hustling. He grill swapped 2x and didn't forget us. Even got us napkins without asking and if you've ever been to Gen, this is gold Wait Time This is the category that hurt them. 2.5+ hours from waitlist join to being seated is a commitment. Especially for a party of two. If you're going on a holiday, adjust expectations accordingly. Overall Gen is still Gen. Good value for AYCE, fun group vibe, solid meat options. I like the upgrade.

Gen Korean BBQ is a fun all-you-can-eat spot, especially if you're going with friends or a group. The regular dinner menu already has a good amount of options, but if you want wagyu and better cuts of beef, you do have to upgrade to the premium menu, which is about $20 more than the regular dinner price. I think it's worth considering if you really care about meat quality and want to try the nicer cuts. The experience is still enjoyable either way because you can order a lot and cook everything at the table. Overall, it's a good place for Korean BBQ cravings.

We tried this Gen Korean for the first time to celebrate Grandma's birthday and had a blast! Parking can be tough in this single level shopping plaza, but very early Saturday evening at 4pm, it was manageable. The AYCE deal without the premium cuts seems to be the best value and has plenty to offer. For a party of six, we were seated with two grills. Everyone was very professional and friendly, and efficient about replenishing us with a fresh grill. The stand-out meat cut to me was the honey soy beef belly with the green onions...super flavorful! Thank you for a great time Gen Korean!

Is there outdoor Korean bbq here now?

Not seeing tables and chairs outside

What's the menu for the outdoor dining?

Should be the same for the Indoor menu

    Is restroom available for customer?

Yes, customers can use the restrooms

How much cooked meat do they give? Is it a pound worth of cooked meat (like I cooked meat)?

When ordering for to-go online, you can buy by pound and they will cook it for you.

It comes with the soy and spicy sauce. It's $1 for the sesame oil and $1 for the salt.

Adults are $15 for lunch and $25 for dinner. But I don't know about kid price.

Nope, just a lunch price for weekdays. Check menu pictures for price

For all you can eat what is the price for dinner? Also what is included in the price besides the meat? Are drinks like soda and rice included?

For All You Can Eat the dinner price is $24.99 With that price you get all access to all the meats,…

My friend is allergic to sesame and nuts. He wants to eat at GEN but is unsure if the food here contains what he's allergic to. Are there ways to accommodate my friend and his allergies?

They have a laminated allergy menu, ask for it. There's a lot of sesame, but there should be safe I marinated meats. There's no tree nuts, and peanuts are only in the hotteok.

When is this place not busy? The only two times I've been here has shown me that they are quite popular so they get quite a lot of customers. Also, is it okay to go alone, like you don't need to go with multiple people?

I recommend going late afternoon around 4pm on the weekend, no wait and they'll be able to expedite your orders(s) quicker.

We arrived on a Sunday afternoon for lunch recently. The restaurant is located in downtown San Jose off north 1st street. Parking is accessible in the back parking lot. The spaces can be tight but there is additional parking on 2nd street as well. The restaurant is fairly large with plenty of tables and high tops. A full service bar is located to the right as soon as you walk in. The restaurant is clean and has nice modern decor. The vibe is welcoming and bustling. We ordered uncle Greg's smoked ribs with cornbread, candied yams, and rice, beef brisket with cornbread, coleslaw, and mac & cheese, watermelon lemonade, lemonade, and a glass of Chardonnay. Everything was delicious and hearty. Both the ribs and beef brisket were tender and juicy. All the sides complemented the bbq meats very well. The candied yams were sweet and tasty. Mac & cheese were creamy and gooey. The cornbread was tasty and moist in the inside. Both lemonade drinks were refreshing and hit the spot. Overall we enjoyed our experience at Jackie's Place. The staff were so nice and attentive. I appreciated the cozy and family friendly atmosphere. Price point was fair. I definitely want to come back to try the happy hour and of course other items on the menu.

The location that we went to is located next to Maggiano's Little Italy in Santana Row on Olin Ave. There is a free 2 hour parking structure across of the restaurant where my boyfriend and I parked at. We came during their Lunch Specials (until 4pm) and Happy Hour (from 3-5:30pm) which worked perfectly as we wanted something smaller in portion compared to the dinner portions. We started off with drinks. I got their Pig Ol' Bitties Blonde Ale, and my boyfriend got their Friday Beer & Shot special of This Little Piggy Went to [Mark]et with a 16 oz Dirty Little Pig IPA and a shot of Benchmark whiskey. My fault for having him get a whiskey shot on an empty stomach, though HAHA. He did like how smooth the whiskey was at least! We shared a 2-meat BBQ Lunch Combo Plate, and honestly, we should have gotten 3 meats because of how tender and delicious everything was! We got their Tri Tip and Sliced Brisket with their Garlic Mash and server recommended Sweet Potato Tots. Ahhh, everything was so good! Aside from the tender, flavorful meats, the two sides, especially the garlic mash, were sooooo good. We both loved everything! It was definitely a great choice coming during lunch as we were quite full after ordering one of their happy hour shareables of Chips & Queso (kind of pricey even for happy hour in my opinion for chips and cheese). Honestly wished we got their Chili Cheese Fries or their other fries which were the same price than just chips and dip LOL. But it was a good hold over food with us drinking a bit (at least for me). Shoutout to the only server who was working on a late Friday afternoon as she was doing her best to accommodate everyone + trying to clean up the previous tables. It was kind of sad seeing that the other workers didn't help bus the tables in my opinion. Overall, a great place to watch sports and have some good whiskey as this restaurant is known for their whiskey selections! The lunch BBQ exceeded our expectations, and we would definitely come back for another lunch special meal but probably with 3 meats this time!

I ordered one of their meal packages, plus some extras on the things we needed more of. the meal package was supposed to include 2 types of bbq sauce plus ranch for the wings. they didn't give us any of the bbq sauces or the ranch. considering they charge $5 each for sides of sauces, that's $15 they shorted me. so we had dry chicken wings with nothing to dip them in... which means nobody wanted to eat them. there's another $25 I was out. we ended up having to use the bottled sauces that I bought as a gift... another $20 gone. pulled pork was fine. the brisket was pretty tough. my dad usually loves leftovers and didn't want to keep any of it... so that said a lot about the meal all by itself. the positives (?): cornbread was pretty good. wolf turds were good (though crazy expensive for what they are - only 2 come in an order for over $10). mac and cheese was good, though it has far less meat than it used to. all in all, not a positive experience. seems like they've really gone downhill. if you order to go, check your order carefully before you leave. they had everything ready when I got there and had tied the bags shut (double knotted), so it would have been hard to get them open. do yourself a favor tho and take the time to open each bag. it sucks to get all the way home and find key items were left out.

You cant really find a skewer place with this type of vibe, def a spot i like to take my out of town friends to for a good time I love getting the fried tofu skins, this is my favorite skewer to get. I actually prefer the regular skewers than the mini skewers just because the mini is so small you have to really bite into the metal stick (which can stab your mouth if your not careful, especially if you end up drinking too much) razor clams are bomb here! Yes they add hella chillies in here so you have to pick it out, but its hard to find places with a razor clam dish that is super tasty and flavorful The alcoholic drinks here are super unique and interesting, my method is to go for the cutest branding, and just order it, and suprisingly it ends up working in my favor LOL my favorite part, is the seasoning they use on all the skewers! that classic chinese taste :D

Some other good skewers are the chicken skin, pork belly, and corn. Love the drinks here too, most recently noticed they added an alcoholic blind box to the menu and it was so exciting to try 12 different mystery shots. Biggest surprise was the dessert of a scoop of strawberry ice cream with a. piece of fried banana. Never had any ACE given me dessert! The place was busy but the wait did not seem to be long even without reservations. Overall, this is a must return ACE!
