I was here during Father's Day 2026 when I was coming off an Alaskan cruise in Seattle. A large selection of sushi and other items (potstickers, seaweed salad, etc) passes you on a conveyer belt system. Right as we walked in, I shoulda listened to the red flags. We were second waiting in line and it took a while for us to be seated. There weren't a lot of clean tables, we were offered to sit at the bar or wait 20 minutes for a clean table. First of all, why don't they have more tables and why don't they have staff bussing? Ok. Fine. Whatever. The bar it is. I noticed there were lots of plates on the belt. I had my first plate which was the squid. I didn't expect it to be lukewarm and slimy. I didn't even finish the other piece in fear of being food poisoned. Even their yakult was warm. I proceeded to take another plate which was overpriced and greasy. Most of the plates were overpriced I my opinion. Also, it took a while for our waters to be filled up..so long that my kid was sucking on ice cubes -down to the last drop. Usually this place is good. Today it was not. The fatty salmon had been previously frozen and thawed. If you know sushi, this basically renders it inedible. I informed one waiter (who took the dish away) and upon paying spoke to the other waiter (the manager?) who apologized and admitted someone had accidentally turned the salmon cooler to maximum. No harm there; I suppose. Anyone can make a mistake. But why should they thaw the (obviously frozen) fish and serve it to customers? I did not discuss this with the manager - I noted (with stomach churning) they had NOT removed the previously frozen salmon from the belt. I mean, you don't expect superb sushi at a Kaiten place, but I went away feeling like I was considered only one in a crowd of indiscriminate cattle, who (the management) who would eat "anything." My first time at Genki was in Factoria and I was never impressed with their spam and imitation crab stick nigiri. I guess this is good for people that don't want to try raw fish and still want that sushi experience. But for me, this is going to sound super pretentious, this ain't real sushi in my eyes. I mean, yes they do have salmon, tuna, and all that good stuff, but when you only see just the cooked stuff on the belt, I'm going to judge. This Renton location is better though because they do actually put out the raw stuff on the belt. So that's good. I don't know if they use a machine to shape the rice for the nigiri, but they be thick! If you like rice a lot, this is great for you. But this is too much rice for my comfort on a nigiri. I honestly had like 3 or 4 plates before I got full. And normally I would get 8 on average! So that says a lot. And I saw another customer just straight up not eat the rice and created a giant pile! This place isn't for me. I've been too scarred by my first time experience at a Genki. A server came and took our drink orders while we were looking at the menu. As we were seeing what we could pick from the conveyor belt, the pictures of the food on the menu looked really good. However, when we selected a couple of California Rolls, Dynamite Roll, Shrimp Tempura roll and a couple of others, they did not taste good at all! For instance, the Avocado tasted old, the rolls were missing salt, sesame oil on the seaweed and some seasoning. California Rolls were very bland. Could only eat it by dipping it into spicy mayo, otherwise it was tasteless. The Shrimp Tempura didn't taste fresh, either. It was missing something as well. Not sure what it was, but all of the rolls were pretty bland. Even the basic egg and Spam rolls were dry, and tasteless. Homemade Spam and Egg tastes much better! This is a solid spot to quickly grab some sushi if you are hungry and in a time crunch. My sister and I stopped by Sunday afternoon at about 12:15PMish. We were seated essentially right away and since this is conveyor belt sushi, we didn't have to wait for food to arrive. We came Tuesday afternoon around 5:45pm and I'm sure the closing time is 8pm. The waitress had table for us right away, right after we asked for ginger( never got it) and beverages. When I came in, i was greeted right away and checked on immediately - I liked their positive and friendly attitudes, the employees there seem to have fun together there.
