Great location, good food, quick service! Would recommend trying if you are in the Boston Common area.

They only do reservations for parties of 5 or larger but you can just walk in - there's no wait and they have great turnaround service. There's two floors so there's plenty of space - great for a cute date or friend hangout. Seaweed salad 7/10 - A little more savory than I'm used to but I really appreciated the flavor! Spider roll 7/10 - - [According to my partner] Good but it's a heavy roll. Spicy king crab tempura roll 10/10 - - [According to my partner] Light & crispy; almost melts in your mouth. Spicy yellowtail nigiri/roll 9/10 - The yellowtail was so fresh! I added some of their eel sauce which was also different than I'm used to (i.e., less sweet + more spiced) but still added a nice touch. Salmon sashimi 10/10 - [According to my partner] Fresh and melts in your mouth. Ume shiso roll 5/10 - This had an unsuspecting bite? It's very strong but it was much better once I added spicy mayo. Sweetie roll 10000000/10 - As someone who hates mango in their sushi, this was the best sushi roll I've had in a whiiiiiiiiiiiiile. I even forgot that it was vegetarian. So good!

Was staying at the W Hotel when my buddy fell asleep and was on my own for dinner. I was in the mood for some sushi, but wanted to stay close. Walked by this place and stopped in. Asked to see a menu and decided to stay. Asked if they had a bar and he said up the stairs. Upstairs is a 6 seated small bar. An older Asian man asked me how I was doing. I told him to make me a not so sweet vodka drink. He landed on a lemon martini. Odd, since I said I didn't want sweet, but it worked. He made it not very sweet. It was pretty delicious. After looking at the menu I landed on the sushi and shami plate for like $42. Fish tasted fresh and the shrimp was extra good. Highly recommend for a quick fresh bite to eat

Food was great! The hand rolls were really big. It's surprised me because they were priced really well, and the glass of wine was the cherry on top. The Staff is very attentive and friendly.

Definitely one of my favorite sushi places considering I do not eat seafood or meat. It has selected vegetarian options, but in my opinion they are pretty good compared to other places in town. Most of the locations are small and cozy, except for the Boston location. Parking is hard to find considering the location. The service is good but if you sit upstairs and they are busy, it can take a little bit before someone takes your order. My favorite items to order are- Miso soup Yasai Gyoza Sweetie Roll - my favorite Hawaii Roll - 2nd favorite Order the gyoza sauce instead of soya sauce and have your sushi with that. the sauce is delicious.

Salmon Torch Roll + some epic Yellowtail nigiri

Truly, ignore other reviews. We were not going to come in due to the 3.5 average, but on a wicked busy Saturday evening we struck out at several nice restaurants near the W hotel. Genki Ya = fantastic sushi!!! Everything we had we loved. Hand rolls, sashimi, double salmon roll. But the TORCHED SALMON was so good and different. Service was great & crazy fast.

I stopped in here during a slow part of the day, so I was the only one in there. They had a plethora of vegetarian options, more than I've seen at any other sushi restaurant I've been to, which was super nice. The rolls themselves were good, the one with banana in it was a nice suprise.

I just placed an order through DoorDash, I got the California king roll, salmon, avocado roll, along with tuna and yellowtail Negri. As soon as I opened the California King roll, we were hit with an awful ammonia smell, after trying two pieces of the roll I got sick from it. And the tuna head a thick slime on top that also had a sour smell to it. It did not try the other two items I ordered because I did not want to chance it since it clearly made me sick. I tried calling the restaurant but couldn't get through so I contacted DoorDash. The future does not issue refunds through DoorDash.

First time at Genki Ya. I frequently stay at the Moxie across the street. Didn't want to venture far so I stopped in. Sat at the bar. The server was kind and attentive. I had Miso soup, edamame, and two rolls. Everything was excellent! Will definitely return!

The spicy king crab tempura is the best thing I've ever had. The staff is top tier and it's in a great place in the city.

Extremely fresh fish with generous portions in a casual, underground space…read more I think this is a reasonably priced establishment for the level of fish (phenomenal) and service (reasonable and attentive, but not like a fancier sit down restaurant) that you get. I am always surprised at how full I am when I leave! I'm stuffed every time. There is complementary miso soup with all of the bowls I've tried, outlined below. I really loved all of the bowls I've tried but my favorites are probably the Sake Aisuru Don and Kuromon Don. I just prefer more salmon to more tuna though, and they're all very good! Food: - Sake Aisuru Don: their classic all-salmon bowl! I loved the larger cuts of salmon, and I was pleasantly surprised that even the more pulverized salmon was flavorful! - Kuromon Don: loved the yellowtail in this! Each fish comes with two pieces (except the mackerel for which there are four), and I liked the sampler style for the salmon, tuna, yellowtail, and izumidai. - Maguro Toro Don: so much tuna! And all such high quality. The otoro was so fatty that it practically melted in my mouth without chewing. - Sake Maguro Hamachi Don: a mix of salmon, blue fin tuna, and yellowtail. I liked the yellowtail in this a lot and found that it stood out the most from the other two fish in this particular bowl!

It was adequately busy but still had seats open. The lunch menu is very affordable! If you can, I'd highly recommend going for lunch instead of dinner. Service was really quick! Received my meal in like 5-7 mins after ordering. Fish was super fresh and I really liked the different textures in the Hoseki Don. I also added in negitoro. They gave me a big clump of it! The second time I went back, I ordered take out so I could eat it at the airport for dinner. I ordered the Sake Maguro Hamachi don, added ikura and negitoro. Again, so impressed with the quality of the fish and the size of it. They didn't skimp out and really enjoyed the thickness of the sashimi despite it only being 3 pieces. It was a very satiating bowl. Cant wait to come back next time again!

Whether you're here for high-end sushi, creative small plates, or comforting kitchen dishes, everything is executed at a very high level. We ordered a massive spread, and almost every single dish was a hit. The Raw Bar & Sushi: * Oysters: These were 10/10. Incredibly fresh, perfectly halved, and meticulously cleaned--not a single piece of shell in sight. We loved them so much we had to go for a second round. * 8pc Omakase & 6pc Aburi Set: Both sets were fantastic. The Aburi (torched) set is a must-try for that smoky melt-in-your-mouth texture. * Uni Nigiri: Even my wife, who usually avoids raw fish, was won over by how creamy and fresh the Uni was. * Tuna Tataki: This was the only "just okay" dish for me. It had good flavor, but I think it would have been elevated with some shredded daikon and a colder temperature. Kitchen & Family Favorites: * Foie Gras Appetizer: Rich, decadent, and a perfect way to start the meal. * Sea Bass: My son absolutely loved this; he finished the entire portion with rice. * Snow Crab Roll: An excellent option for those who prefer cooked rolls. * Tonkotsu Ramen: We finished off the meal with a hot bowl of ramen, which was the perfect savory "topper" to a great dinner. The Experience: The service is efficient and the wait times for food were surprisingly short given how much we ordered. One of the biggest takeaways was the value. The pricing is very fair for this level of quality; back home in Nashville, a meal like this would have easily cost significantly more. The Verdict: While I would love to see a few more small, refreshing salad dishes on the menu to balance out the richness, I left extremely happy. This is a top-tier dining experience and a definite "must-visit" whenever I'm back in town!

For an appetizer my friend and I had the spicy salmon tartare which was excellent. Thick cubes of salmon poke tossed in a bright yuzu vinaigrette that enhanced the flavor of the salmon excentuated by bursting ikura added another level to a refreshing texture. The saffron threads added aesthetic and a perfectly delicate garnish. For entrees, we had to try both the homemade soba and udon noodles. Both were so soft with great flavor that provides the essential reminder that homemade is superior. The soba noodles, if you have never had them, are almost sweet. The tofu in the yasai soup was a delightful fluffy pillow of fried tofu skin thinly cut and same flavor as inari tofu. I added a poached egg and the flavor of the yolk mixed into the noodles is unrivaled. I want to eat it for breakfast. I will definitely be back to try more of the menu.

XO Seafood Udon: The restaurant specifically labeled it "wok-tossed," and it truly had a wonderful wok-hei鑊氣 (wok aroma), with an irresistible fragrance as soon as it arrived at the table. The XO sauce was extremely rich, sweet and umami, and the udon noodles were soft on the outside and bouncy on the inside; the sauce was glossy, smooth, but not greasy, allowing it to coat the noodles evenly and infuse them with flavor. The shrimp, squid, and scallops were all fresh and large, making for a very satisfying meal. The shrimp, in particular, were coated with a thin layer of starch before being pan-fried, adding layers of texture and locking in the juices. This plate removed the scallions and onions to suit my taste, and if you like spicy food, adding a little chili oil would greatly enhance the flavor. The restaurant had an elegant and refined ambiance, and the service was attentive, making it a very relaxing place.

When I made the reservation online I put that the occasion it was for was my birthday- I notice that most restaurants don't pay attention to this on OpenTable, but Fuji definitely did! We were seated quickly and with no issue at all, despite it being pretty crowded. The vibe was intimate and classy- a great spot for date night, or for dinner with your parents. At our table was a card (in the pictures) which was such a nice touch and was a great start to the meal. Our waitress was awesome, and it seemed like there was a floor manager too that was making sure everyone was happy. It felt like the staff truly cared and wanted to make sure everyone was having a good time and experience. Our waitress checked in on us multiple times, and was very helpful with the menu. Speaking of the menu, I was very pleased to see the amount of vegetarian dishes! You don't see that often at Japanese restaurants! For our appetizers we got the lobster Rangoon and spicy edamame. Technically the tofu is an app but you would never guess that from the portion size. The edamame were outstanding! They were spicy as expected and were so tasty. We demolished the whole bowl. The Rangoons were also amazing- the chunks of lobster were divine. I myself love lobster and crab Rangoons, so a combo?! Amazing. Both the edamame and lobster Rangoons are can't misses. For our entrees/ mains we got the crispy soy noodles, miss Waldorf roll, sweet potato roll, tofu, and fried rice. The miss Waldorf roll is amazing, and I can not wait to go back and get more sushi. Truly the best sushi I have had in boston. There are other upscale sushi restaurants I have been to that charge a pretty penny but taste like grocery store sushi. Fuji is not one of those- it was truly exceptional sushi. The sweet potato roll was also delicious! I am very picky about my sweet potato rolls and had one that I have dreamt about since I had it in 2022. I have finally found a sweet potato roll that matches my standards. The crispy soy noodles were also amazing! They reminded e of one of my favorite restaurants when I was a kid and it filled me with such joy to eat something with that flavor. The serving size was pretty big too, and they were not shy on the shrimp! Note though, they were a tad oily (I added a little bit of soy sauce to balance it out). The fried rice was also very good and tasted like a good bowl of comfort fried rice. My parents ate it with the tofu and liked it! The only dish I would want some change in is the tofu- it wasn't bad but compared to the other dishes it definitely lacked the flavor punch you get in the rest of the dishes. The sauce was okay with it. After dinner our waitress brought a slice of vanilla crepe cake and ice cream! This was such a nice touch and it was SO good!!!!! It was the first time I ever had crepe cake but I loved it! I'm not sure if they have a dessert menu or not (we weren't asked if we wanted to see one) but I would love to go back and get that cake again! Overall I am beyond happy that I picked this spot for my birthday- I had an amazing experience and amazing food. Will definitely be back!
