So disappointed. We arrived at George's at 7:30 on a Wednesday night and were told that the wait list had been cut off. Because it had rained 3 hours earlier, they apparently weren't able to seat in their outdoor seating area. I'm pretty sure a few dish towels might have remedied that; but because that requires extra effort, didn't seem to be an option. I'm no restaurant expert, but if you want your business to survive, it would seem that you would actually WANT people in your restaurant. I'll start by saying the food is delicious! Started with the crab fritters which comes with a very yummy and spicy sauce. I had the grilled shrimp seafood bowl. Very good flavor, just wish it came with a little more shrimp for the price. Boyfriend had the jerk crusted gulf snapper. VERY good. Complete with black rice and roasted plantains, topped with a delicious pineapple salsa. Very different but awesome flavor. We left full, but not overly stuffed. Service was great. They even offer (very cozy) blankets for those cool breezy nights on the patio, which was pretty impressive. My only complaints include the fact that we were told the wait would be 30-45 minutes (after calling about 10 minutes prior being told there was no wait, but I understand that); we waited over an hour. When my boyfriend went in to check, they said it looked like our buzzer must not have worked..we should have already been seated. That was very frustrating. You would think they would see on the list that we hadn't been seated yet and they would have come to find us. Oh well. Also, I got pretty much the same meal at Seagrove Village Market (which I think is owned by the same people) the next day for lunch for about $12 cheaper. Exceptional. Dined tonight and had the same fish tacos entree ...wow, the changes to the fish tacos makes them the best I have had anywhere. Period. The new slaw/cabbage addition along with salsa and fresh cilantro on top of fried just right grouper on a slightly fried flour tortilla is perfection. Thank you for making the best fish taco! The only suggestion our party would have for George's would be to add acoustic guitar entertainment for the supper crowd. Your food and service are exceptional. Live music would step it up that one last notch. We love the ambiance of the live music at Edward's but always leave feeling disappointed in the food. Yesterday 3 friends took a fourth friend to George's. She was visiting from out of town and had never been. We have been going there for years and it's one of our favorites. Its a familiar stop and we typically order the same thing every time - because we love it and we stick with what we like. One friend has dietary restrictions and likes to support restaurants that have options that she can enjoy. She has ordered the same thing at this restaurant for 5 years. Yesterday she ordered and was told that there were no substitutions allowed. She explained that she had always gotten the same thing for 5 years. And just for perspective - she orders a dish that has five scoops of different salads. She cannot eat one of the salads so she just asked for two scoops of the potato salad - nothing crazy. The server was firm that there were no substitutions but my friend asked her if she would please check with the manager because it had never been a problem in the past. A few minutes later the manager came over and stated that there were no substitutions and that it was a policy that was written on the menu and asked us if we had read the policy on the menu. The discussion that followed was escalated by the manager. None of my friends raised their voices or spoke disrespectfully. We just explained our previous experiences at this restaurant and our hope to get the same things we always ordered. The manager stood over our table with his arms outstretched and stated that we were welcome to leave because he had plenty of customers who would be happy to have our table who didn't want substitutions. At this point, my friend said we did not want to leave unless they were going to spit in our food and the manager said, "I cant make you any promises." Obviously, we got up and left. I struggle with leaving bad reviews for several reasons. First, I don't like to say bad things about people. Second, everyone has a bad day and it seems like this was the case for the restaurant manager. Third, I don't know his story. He could be going through horrific things in his personal life. But we did not treat him with disrespect. And this is a service industry. And he is the manager. It is his job to manage the restaurant in a way that ensures that the business is represented well. None of that happened yesterday. The good news for us is that we went right down the street and had a great lunch at Amici's. We had great food and wonderful service. read more

George's has always been a go-to spot for us as we own a second home in the area. Our experience today is made more difficult because of the history of good food and service. Four ladies went in excited to have a post Thanksgiving lunch but it turned bad rather quickly. One of our party is gluten intolerant but she always orders the same thing - The Dab Salad - asking for double potato salad rather than the pasta salad. Today the waitress said "no substitutions" so my friend asked her to run it by the chef or manager since it was such a small request. Soon a very aggressive manager came out seemingly looking to make an example of us. In all our experiences none of us have ever been spoken to so rudely, and frankly, in such a bullying manner, as the manager of George's. As he loudly argued that they would never have subbed in the past and they were way too busy to deal with this, he finally said "I'll happily pick up your tab (we had only ordered our iced tea so far) if you'll go." We were shocked and I said "goodness no, not unless they're going to spit in our food now," jokingly. He said "I can't make any promises." Let that settle in for a moment. Needless to say we got up and left. I know the owner reads these reviews and she needs to know we were not rude or aggressive, it's a nurse, therapist, non profit owner and local realtor. He was itching for a fight and he picked one. We won't ever be back which is a shame. Unforgivable to treat your customers like this. Over a tiny bit of potato salad. read more

We had 7 people in our party and every one of us got food poisoning. My doctor bills were over $1500 from the horrible experience. Would recommend to no one. I had never been here before and decided to ride my bike to order lunch to go today. I understand that things are different because of the pandemic, but after six months of business being different, there is no excuse for my experience today. The attitude from the employees was snotty and condescending. I wanted to place an order and have a drink while I waited. Not so fast! After I explained to the, "host" what I was trying to do-she told me to go inside. I went in and several employees behind plexiglass looked at me like I was in the wrong place. I asked for a drink and they begrudgingly obliged I paid and then was told I had to go back outside to place my food order on an app and I could not wait in the restaurant. In a time when restaurants and retail businesses are most affected, I really couldn't believe how careless everyone seemed. Location aside, this place has zero redeeming qualities. I think it is tacky to ask $1 for added cheese to a hamburger that costs $15. I also think it is ridiculous that the fish sandwich had the smallest piece of (not grouper) that I've ever seen on a bun and yet they wanted $20 for it. On the same note...while you are placing your order, there is an unavoidable 20% "To-Go gratuity" that you cannot remove or change. Why would you tip for something before it has occurred?? I would never go back to this, or any of the commonly owned, businesses. We have owned or vacationed in this area for decades-no establishment is bulletproof. read more

They served it out of a small bottle premix and charged $32 for 2 really bad drinks. No price posted so my fault for not asking about the price. We were seated within 15 mins. Table was noisy with heavy foot traffic around us. So, not a very relaxing atmosphere. We ordered the ABC salad which was a nice size and tasty. Also, I have never witnessed such a collection of pretentious and entitled people in all my life. Food was decent but portions, for the price, were small. A kids chicken tender and fries meal was 11 or 12$ and it came with 2 tenders! Long story, short: 4 Stars Ambiance, 2 Stars Food Myself, my sister, and my boyfriend ate at Georges this past week. It was my sisters birthday and the atmosphere definitely fit for a special occasion. Unfortunately, the food was not so great. First, the restaurant was gorgeous. They have a beautiful porch and an outside dining area. We sat outside under an umbrella that had built in fairy lights. It was beautiful. There was a great breeze and not many diners, so we had the courtyard to ourselves. Our server was very sweet and made us feel welcome. For appetizers, I had the fall nicoise salad and my sister had the baby wedge salad. My sister liked hers, but agreed that it's hard to mess up a wedge salad. The Niçoise salad was also tasty, but again, it was cold vegetables in a light dressing. Hard to make it taste bad. For entrees, I had the grilled catch of the day which was cobia, my sister had the tagliatelle, and my boyfriend had the scallops. My fish was cooked well, but my potatoes were burnt. I was also not impressed with the seafood stuffing on my fish. It was relatively tasteless. I think my sister enjoyed her pasta, but she didn't make any specific mention of it. My boyfriend was disappointed with his scallops. He said while the scallops were cooked well, they and the risotto also had little flavor. I will say that the worst part of the food was the price that went with it. Everything was way over priced, especially for the small portions. If each item was about $5 less, it would have taken some of the sting out. The desserts, on the other hand, were very good. We had the warm chocolate toffee goo, the apple cake, and the key lime pie. Those three desserts went a long way to make up for the rest of the food. Unfortunately, for the price and quality of the food, I don't think I will be going back to Georges to eat. This review is a bit tardy and dates back to June 2013 while my husband and I went on vacation in Florida. Now let me state for the record that we were previous Floridians and good quality seafood is not foreign to us. If gourmet seafood is what you're looking for, you won't find it here. This place is quite possibly one of the WORST gourmet "seafood" restaurants that Florida has to offer and I'll tell you exactly why. This area is a complete TOURIST trap. There's condos/villas everywhere surrounding this place, hence the influx of flubby pastel wearing douchebags in sandals who don't mind throwing away $100 for a meal ticket for two for bad quality food. When you enter the restaurant, it's very crowded and very loud. All the tables are spaced out only inches apart, so eavesdropping is inevitable while you're chowing down to your expensive meal. Go ahead and give that evil glare at the obnoxious idiot at the table next to you -- there's bound to be a few of them. Throw out any possibility for a nice, quiet, intimate evening with your date. We were seated at a table squished in the corner where the traffic flow from the waiters were quite heavy. I looked at the menu and immediately settled for the Lemongrass Curry Cioppino ($30) and my husband chose the Harissa Rubbed Pork Ribeye. ($28) We thought okay, well the ambiance was extremely poor, so maybe the food with the steep prices would make up for the difference. Boy was I ever wrong. First off, there was no lemongrass flavor in my dish. It tasted like bland chicken broth spiked with powdered green seasoning. I grew up eating lemongrass, so what the hell was this made up concoction? On top of that, the seafood wasn't even fresh. The shrimp, mussels and clams were rubbery and overcooked. My husband's ribeye turned out to be a disaster as well. It was a mere 3-oz piece of under-seasoned meat over a bed of grits. When his plate came out, we actually wondered if he had accidentally ordered from the kids menu as the portion was ridiculously small. We received our steep tab and $80 later, he was left STILL hungry. Lucky, there was a Publix down the road to mend our taste buds before heading back to the hotel. Honestly, I don't know what I'm disappointed at more. The fact that I was stupid enough to believe the yelp reviews that led me here in the first place, or that I fell into the category of "dumb Florida tourist" with the preconceived notion that I was entering a fine dining establishment. The only kind of people who are going to rave about this place are people who have NOT been to bigger cities with huge gourmet dining (NYC, Chicago, Frisco, Austin). Those people can easily be spotted simply by trying to order Cioppino and failing to pronounce the word correctly. They shouldn't be given credence on their reviews. Shame on you, George's at Aly's Beach, for obviously creating fake yelp accounts to boost your rating. Shame on me for believing there was more to your gourmet dining. Beautiful setting. Had a wonderful waitress who gave great recommendations. My Spicy salt and pepper shrimp was divine. It was just the right amount of spicy for me. I wasn't expecting it to be fried shrimp, but it was worth every calorie. And the sauce--I basically licked up every last drop of that yumminess. While staying in Alys Beach we decided to try the local restaurant, George's. We had to wait a few days for it to open. The outdoor screen porch was very pleasant and the service good. We ordered the fish tacos made with grouper, and the grilled grouper plate served over a bed of greens with fingerling potatoes. The fish was supposedly fresh. Although the tacos were decent, but not spectacular (the grouper was fried) my grilled fish was absolutely inedible. It had a very strange bitter taste and it was extremely dry and poorly seasoned. I tried adding salt, butter and lemon but it did not help. The fingerling potatoes were dry, undercooked, and just tasted old and they consisted of 2 small potatoes. Hardly a side dish. It was a most horrible meal and the worst fish I've ever had. I should probably have sent it back but I just didn't feel like the hassle. I complained after we finished our meal to the hostess but she didn't say much. I 'm sure their fried seafood items are probably what they do best. I don't know what was wrong with that grouper, because I've had it before and that is not what it is supposed to taste like. What a waste of $50! read more

Ate here twice during my stay in Rosemary Beach. Enjoyed the lunch more than the dinner. The seating for dinner was a little chaotic, but then again it was a Friday night. They do not take reservations. Both meals were delicious, although the fish tacos are larger than what I am used to so they can be hard to handle. I really wanted to like this place based on the reviews and location; however, it was a disappointment. There was a group of 7 (one was a 2 yr old) that came here while we were on vacation. We made a reservation and were seated as soon as we came in, which was great! We all ordered our meals pretty quickly. We enjoyed our drinks and were all looking forward to our food. I ordered the scallops with risotto, it sounded delicious. The food then came out for everyone except for 1 person. The server then came and said that someone forgot the order and that it'll come out shortly. The rest of us proceeded to eat our meals. My scallops were very mediocre (they kind of had a strange smell) and didn't have much taste. My fiance ordered the swordfish; it was better than my scallops but still not as good as I would expect from a place like this. About 30 minutes later, we all finished our food and my fiance's sister (the one that didn't get her entree) was still food-less. We had checked with the waitress, who said that it should be coming out soon. She didn't even come to check on us while we were eating and apologize for not having the entree out. At this point, we didn't even want the other entree anymore since everyone was done eating and the 2 year old was tired and ready to leave. The last entree finally came out and the waitress had it boxed and removed it from the check. Overall, the experience was not as expected and the food was average. read more

We were seated immediately but waited nearly an hour before our meal arrived with missing items. Some food was extremely hot and some was cold. The salt and pepper shrimp I remembered from last year was not nearly as tasty. The sauce seemed too heavy and overly sweet. The other guests at our table ordered fried grouper and it was also subpar. The service was the most inattentive service we've experienced anywhere on 30-a. It definitely was not worth the $200.00+ tab for three adults and three children with no alcohol. We planned to stay and order desserts but could not wait any longer. Food 3-4 star, service 5 stars. Grouper sandwich was lightly breaded and fried, hot and fresh, could have used a little extra sauce but that is my own preference, but was nicely toast. I thoroughly enjoyed the grouper sandwich I give it 4 stars. My husband got the burger and we shared half sandwich, half burger. I wasn't impressed with the burger, pretty plain and basic, claims to be best burger on 30A which I think there are better burgers out there. Service at Georges was EXCELLENT.
