I absolutely loved the burrata salad, but I thought the fish dip was a tad too fishy for me. For our entrees, most of the table got the red fish and the other two got the steak and the pasta. We all devoured the red fish! It was so delicious and a good portion. Others in my pastry weren't fans of the pasta, but the steak was one of the best I've ever tasted. Later in the day, we called back simply to confirm that a high chair would be available for one of the babies in our party, only to be told that there wasn't a reservation under our name. It was a stressful start, especially with such a large group to coordinate. Thankfully, when we arrived, the staff was able to accommodate us with outdoor seating, and we were grateful they found a way to fit us in. Our server was kind, and I understand that serving a party our size isn't easy. That said, service throughout the meal was quite slow, and there were several mix ups. Some guests waited a long time for drinks, a few orders were missed initially, and it took quite a while before everyone had their meals. The cocktails, however, were excellent. Our table ordered espresso martinis, margaritas, and several other drinks, and those were definitely a highlight of the evening. Unfortunately, the food was the biggest disappointment for our group. The appetizer portions were much smaller than we expected, and overall, most of us weren't particularly impressed with the quality of our meals. Considering we were celebrating such a special occasion, we had hoped the food would be just as memorable as the setting. Proper is in a beautiful location, and I do appreciate that the staff was ultimately able to accommodate our large party after the reservation mix up. Based on our experience, though, I think this is probably a better spot for drinks and a couple of small bites than it is for a large celebratory dinner. While I'm glad we gave it a try, I don't think it's a place we'll be returning to.

Ok so first the good - or great really. The service was excellent. Staff was efficient and generally friendly. Our waiter was timely with food and the backup service (drink refills, food runners, etc..) was spot on. Our waiter got a little less chatty when we declined dessert and consequently was a little rushy with the check (gave the feeling of wanting to rush us out and turn our 2 top after $125 dinner for 2). The not so good. The surf special of the day was swordfish that the waiter stated they had for dinner and it was outstanding so both my wife and I ordered. It was average swordfish that I get in Dallas regularly and pay about $22 for a portion at least twice the size of $34 George's charged me. The $34 meal was about a 4 ounce swordfish (which was ok but not exceptional or even great) and some green beans (which again were good but not even great) and a tiny amount of sweet potato puree (just for decoration and a little taste). For $34 and the reputation of being a 5 star seafood restaurant, I was very disappointed. I expected exceptional and would have settled for great. I got ok with very small portion and good service. For the $, the quality, and the amount of food (along with the rushing me out after $125 because I declined dessert) - We won't be back. Vue on 30A was outstanding for the same money with an ocean front dining, better food, and normal size portions. Don't waste your time on George's - head to Vue on 30A or the Great Southern Café in Seaside. Great Southern was also outstanding for the same money and normal portion sizes. read more

The service from the waitress was adequate, but she displayed a passive-aggressive attitude towards me. I requested the grouper sandwich to be grilled blackened, and she questioned whether I wanted it grilled or blackened. It was obvious that I wanted it blackened, as blackened implies not fried. As a restaurant owner myself, I can assure you that when someone asks for blackened, they do not mean fried. It's illogical to have a blackened fried grouper, as that doesn't even exist. The waitress should have understood my request instead of laughing at me. Additionally, my partner ordered a burger cooked medium, but it was served rare. The older lady serving us seemed very arrogant. When someone specifies blackened or grilled blackened, there should be no room for debate. I take pride in my restaurant and have high standards for service, so it's disappointing to encounter such low-quality skills from a server. read more

Started our meal with the best appetizer, Blue Cheese and Crawfish Cheesecake,,,so much flavor and delicate and the same time. It was tempting to order another, we were all fighting for the last morsel. We all decided on separate dishes, thanks to our waiter, RJ, for a great description. I had the grilled grouper, which was so tender and full of spices that made my tongue very happy. My Mother tried the fish of the day, which was a surprise with that smokie flare and delicious sauce. Each of my sisters, had the shrimp. One grilled and the other fried, all to perfection. We love to try different restaurant and LOVE, LOVE George's and we will be back. I recently dined at George's At Alys Beach and had a wonderful experience. The service was top-notch, with friendly and inviting diverse staff. The restaurant had a laid-back vibe and a calming atmosphere. I enjoyed a delicious French 75 cocktail. While the Lobster Quesadillas were a letdown and none of us finished them, the Fried oysters were a standout with flavorful Asian seasonings and tasty batter and sauces. The Calamari was good but a bit too salty. I recommend trying the Jerk Crusted Gulf Snapper, which came with delicious forbidden black rice and plantains, as well as the jumbo lump crab cake and sweet potato gnocchi. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant and look forward to returning. read more

Well, it had to happen. After a number of enjoyable meals at George's, the place has gone the way they all do down here. Very good the first few years, and then the bottom falls out. I don't know which was worse........ a sullen/obnoxious waitress; a wrong order; so-so food; or the obligatory next table full of loud, obnoxious Alabama blue-haired matrons who want EVERYONE to know how important they are. OH!!! And the thousands of flies EVERYWHERE were such a nice touch to the decor!! This is all so sad - there really aren't all that many good restaurants on 30A anymore, and now George's joins the list of over-hyped tourist traps. We wont be back. I seriously wish I could clone her. The kitchen was taking a very long time to get our food out, but Jen never let it affect our experience. She took matters into her own hands by bringing us fresh hush puppies while we waited. Even though a food runner was supposed to deliver our meals, she personally brought everything out herself because she cared about making sure we were taken care of. The kitchen delay wasn't her fault, but she handled it with professionalism, kindness, and a smile the entire time. To top it all off, she surprised us with a variety of complimentary desserts to take home because she felt so bad about the wait. That's exceptional customer service! And one more thing... try the gumbo! It was the best I've ever had. Thank you, Jen, for turning what could have been a frustrating wait into such a memorable dining experience.
