We saved George's until our last night of vacation, because of the incredible experience we had last year. We were underwhelmed this year with the service and food. We were seated immediately but waited nearly an hour before our meal arrived with missing items. Some food was extremely hot and some was cold. The salt and pepper shrimp I remembered from last year was not nearly as tasty. The sauce seemed too heavy and overly sweet. The other guests at our table ordered fried grouper and it was also subpar. The service was the most inattentive service we've experienced anywhere on 30-a. It definitely was not worth the $200.00+ tab for three adults and three children with no alcohol. We planned to stay and order desserts but could not wait any longer. Food 3-4 star, service 5 stars. Grouper sandwich was lightly breaded and fried, hot and fresh, could have used a little extra sauce but that is my own preference, but was nicely toast. I thoroughly enjoyed the grouper sandwich I give it 4 stars. My husband got the burger and we shared half sandwich, half burger. I wasn't impressed with the burger, pretty plain and basic, claims to be best burger on 30A which I think there are better burgers out there. Service at Georges was EXCELLENT. Decent food, but at the prices they charge I would expect far better. The steak I had that costs $33 would be a $20 elsewhere in my book. If the prices were cut in half I'd give it at least 4 stars, but at the current rate I would suggest spending your money elsewhere. read more

We've enjoyed many good meals at George's over the last few years. We enjoyed the variety in the menu, and the seafood bowls which were well done and priced appropriately. Our last visit was disappointing. The menu seems to have been compressed, and the dishes are priced beyond their value. The gracious attitude of the hostess and waitstaff seemed to have eroded. Even the phone call to inquire about availability of a table was handled rudely. Maybe it was an off night, but we will likely not return. read more

It has been two years since we visited George's. The food and service were wonderful. I was told recently that they are under new ownership. Their website states dinner hours are 5pm until 9pm and they do not take reservations. We attempted to go for dinner recently at 8pm and were told they stopped taking names for a table at 7pm. Unlike one of the previous reviews the gentleman who informed us was very polite. It is hard to believe as a restaurant you would choose to be open only two hours and then turn customers away but that appears to be their business model. As a patron it would be much appreciated if they would inform you of this on their website. read more

I am so glad we tried this place. We sat outside on the front porch (a table of 8) and it couldn't have been more lovely. I love Alys Beach; it's so tranquil and beautiful. We found this restaurant to be very charming. The decor is splendid. The theme of frogs and the color green run throughout and it's Southern beach charm at its very best. The inside of the restaurant is tiny, but has a clean and urban feel. The food was very good. Not the best meal of my life, but the overall EXPERIENCE of eating here was so nice, I would definitely hope to be back. Beer and wine only. From the moment we walked in the door I knew it was going to be a great dining experience. The wine was phenomenal (they even gave me a glass on the house after my clumsy self knocked my first one over!). We started with the lobster quesadilla and coming from someone who does not like seafood very much I can tell you I could eat this all day! Amazing. We also tried the chicken curry soup and my only complaint about that was the temperature. It seemed like it maybe sat back in the kitchen for a while and was almost less than room temperature. For my main course I had the steak. For years I claimed the best steak I had was in an underground jazz bar in New York but George's steak changed my mind. I couldn't get enough!! George's is a spot I definitely hope to visit again! We did have to wait quite awhile, but that wasn't a problem. Our waitress was super friendly and helpful, and we really felt like she took her time to talk and chat with us, even though she had a bunch of tables to take care of. I had the Special (I forgot what type of fish it was, but it was delicious), and we ordered the Chocolate Goo and the Key Lime Pie for dessert - SO GOOD. Went for lunch, excited to try something new. Order two grouper sandwiches "world famous". She tells us that they are out of grouper, substituting sword fish. My girlfriend settles for an abundance bowl. After a while she comes to tell us they do have grouper and quickly walks away. Evidentially that took a little longer because her food comes out with a cold egg sunny side up when it should be over medium, cold sautéed mushrooms, and a soapy flavored kale salad. My world famous grouper sandwich couldn't have even been two ounces and came on a cheap hamburger bun. At fifteen dollars a piece I wish id just set my money on fire. The food is usually tasty here and eating out on the patio is always nice, but seriously the wait staff is awful every time I go...specifically their attitude/impatience. It must be from working in a town of visitors and not worrying about returning patrons but there are a lot of us who live close enough to frequent these places. read more

My partner ordered the fish tacos they were decent ( the beans and Pico were tastier) I ordered the pollo san Miguel. The menu described it as chicken flavored with lime topped with cilantro and avocado. It was BLACKED chichen (to the point I couldn't eat it) with a lime wedge on the side and a half of an avocado grilled also on the side. I reallllyyy wanted to give this place a higher rating. The atmosphere was super upscale and beachy with nice outdoor seating. But due to weather we needed to be seated inside which was next to the hostess stand and kitchen. I understand the limited seating inside but I must have hit elbows with employees and patrons many times. We ordered a variety of food. My cheese grits were the blandest grits I've ever eaten. I sent them back and they promptly delivered fries as a substitute. The server was friendly and food ok, but didn't impress me compared to other restaurants in the area. I do recommend the calamari fries though. They were delicious. read more

Fell short of expectations. They could have done so much better. Appetizers were very bland and generic in flavor. The Shrimp dish they recommend in the "spicy" sauce was horrible. Go do some more RD and revamp your menu. The kids fried Grouper was over cooked. Our waiter RJ was very pleasant and kept it at a 2 star or else it's a 1 star. Over priced and under delivered. We went to George's to celebrate a very special friend for her 50th birthday in September. I live in Dallas so I had never been there before but heard it was good so we picked George's for our celebratory dinner. What a disappointment!!! The food was terrible and so was the service. I had the halibut and got very ill. In addition, the staff made us feel rushed. When were were leaving we tried to use the bathrooms and they were locked. We were stunned. We had to have some great seafood...found it at George's At Alys Beach. Around the corner to the west of Panama City is the more upscale stretch of coast road and communities on East County Highway 30A or 30A for short. George's is on the east end of 30A at Alys Beach. The ambiance is understated elegance.While many of our fellow diners were dressed more formally, the hostess had no problem seating us wearing shorts and flip flops. Our wait person, Joe, immediately put us at ease descriptions of the house specialties and a small flashlight to help read the menu in the low light. I ordered the seared scallops with asparagus ravioli, my wife had the grilled Gulf shrimp. We had the fried oyster appetizer. The oysters were good and included sweet sautéed onions and pickled ocra. My wife reveled in the shrimp. She had ordered some the prior evening at another restaurant and was underwhelmed. There were three large scallops and three large ravioli. The scallops were done just right, slight crust on the outside and melt-in-your-mouth tender on the inside. We had the Meyer lemon curd for dessert. It was delicious and a fitting conclusion to the meal. If you're looking for a special meal and willing to spend a little more, I highly recommend George's at Alys Beach. read more

Best meal of the trip. Sat on the screened porch off to the side. Most of the seating is outside in a very pretty setting across the road from the beach on 30A. Started with the dip trio which included Tomato jam, raita, and basil hummus. The jam and raita were fabulous - flavor just popped. Fried goat cheese and poached pear salad was very good too. My husband and I were visiting the Destin area for the first time and heard great things about George's. It was out of our way (over 45 minutes), but we decided to go there one evening for dinner due to the great reviews we read on it. We arrived at 8:15 and were cut off by a woman in line for guests putting their names in. It was then our turn in line and the hostess said they stopped taking tables at 8:15. I looked down at my phone which said 8:17, and said, "Ma'am is there any way you could squeeze us in? We drove a long way to come here and when we called to check your hours, that was not mentioned." She looked at me and said,"Sorry," without sympathy or good manners. I'm sorry but that is terrible customer service. I worked in the restaurant industry for 5 years and I can say that says a lot about that place. We were a couple coming in well before close, not a party of ten. If you decide to go there I suggest getting there during senior dinner hours, ha ha! But we won't be going back. read more

Absolutely wonderful! The food was incredible. The service was fantastic! James and Lauren were our servers. They were friendly and made us feel at home. The portions of food are very large. The place was a bit more expensive than I thought. A meal for two can easily hit $100. I think I'll be more cautious of the dollar signs I see on here on Yelp. I considered writing a bad review, so we could keep this little gem of a restaurant to ourselves, but that wouldn't be fair to the excellent chef and staff at George's. We enjoyed all aspects of our dining experience here. The waiting staff was friendly, efficient, and well informed of the dinner selections. The lobster quesadilla and short rib appetizers were my top picks. No one was overly thrilled with their entrees. The waiter had really talked up the lamb dish I ordered (it consisted of a chop, a sausage sort of thing that I very much did not enjoy, and I think it was a nibble of leg? - 3 different sorts of lamb meat anyhow) and man it was just a let down. I think it's unsafe for waiters to really sell a dish because 1. Expectations are high & 2. If you don't like it and your selection had been swayed by the sell you're left wondering how the dish you almost got would have been. Makes for a disappointing time.
