Sausage and spinach tavern style pizza
    Lina W.

George's really deserves the accolades for their pizza. Their tavern style pizza I've ever tried in Chicagoland area. It is a very technically excellent thin crust pizza. Let's start with their sour dough thin crust. It's flavorful, perfectly crispy but not cardboard dry and has the right amount of bite and chew. The dough at every part of the pizza was evenly cooked and there were no wet spots. I don't know how they balance all that out for perfect texture and bite! The crust is also sturdy enough to hold the toppings. Nothing irks me more than soggy dough that lacks structure. The tomato sauce was evenly and slightly spread. The sauce flavor bright, flavorful and not sweet, which I like. The toppings were balanced and evenly spread out, which takes a lot of time and care. One interesting and smart choice they do with the sausage topping is that they flatten the sausage a little bit into almost like a disc instead of a round meatball. What that does is it helps the sausage cook evenly and all the way through plus some tasty browning at the same time with the pizza crust. They way they portion out and plot out the toppings is smart so it's evenly distributed. I can tell they put a lot of R&D into developing their pizza craft and execution in production. I'm blessed they're quite close to my home - no need to drive all the way to Kim's Uncle's in Westmont. George's is one of my favorite neighborhood spots now.

    Halas' Classic (yum!)

Just fell in love with my newest favorite thin or cracker or tavern style crust pizza called the O'Keefe!!! It was such a hit with my family that it was the clear favorite amongst the three pizzas we ordered. The other two were a plain thin cheese (good but nowhere near the O'Keefe) and a classic deep dish (Halas'). The sourdough crust really makes it lighter on the stomach, don't get me wrong until now Pequod's was our go to but if we want a lighter deep dish George's has our vote!

    No sag on the crust!

George's pizza came on the scene a few years ago with their unique take on deep dish, using a sourdough crust. Acquiring a pie used to be almost as hard as getting face value tickets on Ticketmaster because you had to sign up for a slot. However, now that they have been in business for a couple years, they have an easy-to-use online ordering system, with usually an hour wait for pick up and 1.5 hrs for delivery. Like other reviews have mentioned, their deep dish is so good. They use fresh ingredients, and have creative combinations of toppings, but the ability to make your own. However, this year, enter their new sensation: tavern style pizza. This seems to be a new venture, but they are staying true to their sourdough crust. I have to say, this may be one of the best tavern style pizzas I have had in the city. It utilized the fresh ingredients they are known for, BUT the star was the perfectly crispy crust. Even the middle didn't sag. We reheated to eat leftovers and it still held its integrity. This is a definite must if ordering from George's!

Have been wanting to try George's as it's always mentioned on a best of list. Got a deep dish cheese and sausage to go. Ordering online was easy and it was a 45 minute wait. Picking up the pizza was easy ample parking around the restaurant. The sauce on the pizza is amazing and has a good flavor to it. The sausage is also really good that they utilize. The crust was decent but more doughy than I prefer.

Spinach and artichoke dip, the bread is amazing with a flakey/crispy outside and super fluffy inside

Highly suggest dining in if possible as the pizza is at its peak hot out of the oven. Yes, this isn't a "standard deep dish" this is more of an artisan Pizza Hutt pan pizza in the best ways... crunchy bottom to the crust with a light fluffy layer above that topped off with a lightly caramelized cheese crust

Side view of the s & m pizza. That's ricotta on the top.

We have friends that swear this is the best deep dish in the city. We finally tried it on hubbys birthday weekend. Would definitely go back. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Limited seating but opted for takeout and Tivo.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We got two pizzas, salad, and a slice of cheesecake. Tavern style cracker thin pizza was a make your own with mushrooms, half pepperoni, and half sausage. I can't believe I am saying this but it wasn't my cup of tea as it was too thin compared to others I have had. For our deep dish- we went with the spaghetti and meatballs! Yea. You Read that right. Pasta on a deep dish! It was really really good and the reason we will be back. They have a great website and it was easy to order and customize.

This pizza is always great, I typically live 25-30 minute drive each way and it still travels well and tastes delicious. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Friendly, family run space that's cozy inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I've never eaten at the restaurant but would love to eventually because of how committed to great service the family always are at pickup. It also tastes just as good cold the next day while watching Bloodsport on your couch

    Pepperoni deep dish

Wonderful experience definitely need to make this a stop on the list for Chicago deep dish pizza. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Felt like I was sitting at my aunts house.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Pizza was perfect did not need anything extra from the tomato sauce to the crust. 10/10 MUST RECOMMEND AND IM FROM NYC

Chicago pizza is so complicated. One place says tavern style, one place says deep dish. And in the west loop, they're attempting to pass Roman style pizza. I say we can have them all! George's is one of the few new styles I've had in a while. Their pizza is on a sourdough focaccia style crust. I was nervous about it at first but once I had it, I was hooked. The pizza was perfectly cooked, I chose a great combination of toppings, and I was very impressed by this random find. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I ordered for pick up but the restaurant seemed very friendly and clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff was more than happy to help out and even gave me some tips on carrying it as it was SUPER hot as well as how to reheat properly. I'm so happy that I found this place and will be back very soon!

    Today's pizza (10/2025) -- below expectations.

First off, I absolutely love George's. I've ordered there at least a dozen times and have had a great experience each time... except this one. I ordered my usual pie -- Sausage, Pep, Garlic, and Giard. However, the toppings this time were different than every other time I've been. In the past, George used to use whole cloves of garlic on the pie. It was glorious. This time there was none that I could see. I brought it back and was told it was chopped this time and that id be able to taste it when I ate it. Well, my partner and I are it, and we might as well have not gotten garlic. The taste was hardly perceivable. I certainly won't order garlic again if this is how it will be from now on. Similarly, the giard was extremely small. Maybe that's just the brand that's being used now, but it seriously detracts from the nice crunchy texture you'd typically have from giard on the pizza. Lastly, the dough was very off, almost soggy. The crust was far softer than it has ever been, yet the cheese in the middle was burnt. Notably, George did not cook this pie. Maybe it's training issues with new staff, but my partner and I were shocked at how different the dough was. Ultimately, this experience actually deserves a 3/5. I'm going to give it a 4/5 because I love George's and have had many good experiences there. But the quality tonight was worse than it has ever been in my dozen + times going there and I hope that this isn't how will be from now on. Attached is a photo of today's pizza, and my same exact pizza ordered from here last year. The difference is quite obvious. Today's isn't up to the standard I hold George's too. Edit: the owner, George, reached out and assured me that he is assessing quality control. Due to the fact he reached out and my many positive previous experiences, I'm going to make this a 5/5. Will definitely revisit soon and hope to have a great experience.

This is NOT a deep dish pizza. It doesn't have a "dish" and it isn't deep. What it is is a round, puffy crust of pizza dough, with some sauce and toppings spread very thinly on the top. It actually has less cheese, sauce, and toppings than any regular thin crust pizza, and certainly not the double amount you would get if there were actually a dish in the pizza dough to hold it. The experience is like chewing an enormous amount of pizza dough with nearly no sauce. Very disappointing. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I really wanted to like this pizza. After all, the place is friendly and smells great when you go in[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. But this is ridiculous

As Chicago residence for over a decade, the allure of deep dish pizza has worn off. However, when folks are in town, we always have to treat them. After driving by George's so many times since we've moved to Edgewater, we decided to give it a try when our in-laws came to visit... Oh my goodness... It was SO good we have now gotten it twice since on our own without guests in town! What makes George's pizza unique is that it is made on sourdough crust. This makes the flavors pop amidst the scrumptious funk of sourdough. Plus they are very generous with toppings. We got pepperoni, sausage, red onions, and garlic...it was divine! Prices are very reasonable and the service is extremely helpful. One of the best parts of George's is that you can preorder your pizza on Tock as if it is a dinner reservation. This way you know that you have it scheduled and ready to go. Such a great/streamlined idea! The place itself is cute and quaint! But we have not eaten-in ourselves. Maybe one day. George's is now one of our favorite local pizza spots. And I mean it. Not one of our local deep dish spots...but overall pizza spots! After writing this I'm hungry again and cannot wait to order it again! See you soon, George's!

I got the Chicken Avocado Ranch for my selection (Antibiotic-free blackened chicken, avocado, pickled onions, apples, tortilla chips, white rice, chopped romaine, seed oil-free green goddess ranch) and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. As I was home on the Friday after the Xmas Day celebration, hungry, didn't want to cook/heat anything up, I decided to order this salad for dinner through Grubhub. While I was placing the order, I decided to try the Fish Taco for the next day's lunch (Antibiotic-free miso glazed salmon, avocado, shredded cabbage, cilantro, tortilla chips, herbed quinoa, spring mix). This bowl comes with a sweetgreen hot sauce & lime cilantro jalapeño vinaigrette, but I opted to switch that out for the Green Goddess Ranch and the Miso Sesame Ginger. I loved the fact that I would add or not include certain items. For example, I love goat cheese, so I add that to both bowls and it was delish. Delivery was pretty smooth, with the driver coming up to our floor to drop everything off. Both bowls looked visually pleasing and the overall taste was pretty good. The flavors were nice and there was a freshness to both bowls, even the Fish Taco one on the next day. FYI the Fish Taco bowl can only be ordered online, not ordered in the store...not sure why, but since I will not be going to the store, I am good with that. You also have the option to order a slice of bread with each bowl and that was nice. Next time I will see if I can get a second slice. Total cost for the two bowls, with some add-ons and service fee and tip was about $58. I will say it will be cheaper to go to the store and pick it up yourself, but I will pay to have stuff delivered to me for peace of mind. They do have an app for placing orders, but I will stick with Grubhub because that is free for me through Amazon. I realize sweetgreen has a mission statement about eating healthy, lowering their carbon footprint, a commitment to animal welfare, but before I knew any of that, I still would say the bowls were pretty good. Not that I crave salads or bowls that often, but if I do, this will be the first place I order from.

No if, ands, or buts about it, the pork belly was the star of the show. It had that bit of char to give it that maillard charm [sic], and it was just the right cut of meat that it was tremendously flavorful and savory. Not over salted either! I used to think that my favorite gyro filling was lamb. No. My favorite gyro filling is pork belly, 100%. Far too many places stuff it to the absolute brim for the heck of saying, "Hey, look, we're not greedy at all! We're give you more ingredients." Though this throws the balance off and it becomes a piping hot mess. Not here. I didn't find myself saying, "They skimped on the meat," nor did I find myself saying, "I would have liked a little more veggies." While a bit more onions wouldn't have hurt, I am not complaining. The only thing I will say is the tzatziki sauce could have used a little more flavor. I'm not sure if it needed more cucumber or maybe some herbs, but it felt more like a yogurt sauce than what I would call a true tzatziki. All this is good and fine except for the service. While I do want to be fair and say that I was here as part of a larger group. I don't think that's an excuse. It took us just about an hour for our manis to start coming. The restaurant wasn't very busy, either. If it's an indication, one of the things I ordered was a EPSA soda (by the way, it had no carbonation and was more of a fruit juice). It took well over 15 minutes just to get a bottle of this stuff. Come on, folks. Just get it from the fridge, give it to me, and there's more likelihood I'd finish it before the food gets here and I'll ask for another one. The final thing I do want to give them massive props for is their low prices, probably about the same as a meal would cost you at a fast food joint, with comparable portions. It's not something that you're going to be waddling away like a penguin, but unless you have a massively voracious appetite, you will not leave hungry, just not brimming to the full. Thus, the pork belly gyro is definitely worth a return visit. However, I have to make sure I give myself plenty of time because based on my experience with a larger group, it may take unreasonably long to get my food.

Carlos, our waiter, was so knowledgeable and friendly. He clearly has tried everything on the menu and has a deep understanding of flavors and pairings. what not miss - 1. fried artichoke - heavenly, fried to perfection 2. blue cheese + pear dipping - so smokey you'd think there was bacon in it, with the perfect tang of the pear / mustard flavors. (this plate was something I NEVER thought I'd order and enjoy, I'm not a blue cheese fan normally) 3. short rib wellington - I rarely eat meat, but wow it's so tender and the spread in the bowl pairs effortlessly. The pastry on the outside wasn't doing the dish any favors but didn't take away from it either. A small portion for the price so definitely a special occasion plate IMO LGBTQI+ friendly atmosphere. Was not crowded on a Thursday late night. Great prices on small plates + many pour sizes to fit your budget. What I didn't like- Very close to your booth side neighbors with little separation, I would recommend a stand alone table for more intimate dining. Also, I would enjoy it to be a bit darker (yes it was dark already, give me even more) and the music a bit louder. The check came, I gave my card, the check came back with an extra drink on it that they forgot to add before giving me the check. I will absolutely be back!

For an extra $15, it made sense to order the prix fixe menu with the wine pairings. A cocktail likely would have cost more. The soup and salad were delicious and paired perfectly with great wines. We all loved our entrees, although I suspect I loved my short rib wellington a little harder. I'm not a huge desert person but I can't stop thinking about that Nutella creme brulee. Also paired with a great dessert wine-- possibly the only dessert wine I have ever really liked! Yes the portions are a little smaller for restaurant week, but with four courses I was happy to not feel like a glutton at the end. Incredibly thoughtful and knowledgeable service made this a great choice for dinner. The space is well laid out too. We didn't feel like we were sitting on top of people, and it was easy to have a conversation even when the room was pretty full.

Tl;dr the food here is really great, even if you're not a vegan. Portions are pretty generous, and…read morethe menu is wide-ranging. Highly recommend the crab rangoon + soulful platter. ===== Stopped by one weekend near opening and was able to get seated right away! They have a good number of tables outside and inside and seem overall fairly popular since there were already a few tables before us. The menu is huge and had seemed to be mostly Asian-ish, with some other items sprinkled in. We ordered: - crab rangoon - 5/5 - very tasty and light, sauce was a great complement - soulful platter with 'chicken' wing - 4.5/5- loved the variety of components. The 'chicken' wing was a highlight and had great texture and flavor; cornbread was also really tasty. Mac and cheese had a strong nutritional yeast flavor, which I enjoyed, but kind of wish it were more cheesy. Mashed potatoes were ok. Generous portion of collard greens. - mush love - 3/5 - huge portion, but the breading was very thick and crunchy. I wish the individual pieces were split up more and the breading a bit lighter; i also wish the sauce were the same as the one for the crab rangoon. This one was more of a bbq. Definitely would come back to try more items on the menu! I was intrigued by the drinks, though they were extremely expensive (e.g. 9$+). Staff were friendly, and I appreciate the disclaimer on the menu that they pay their staff a livable wage.

And a friend with whom I was traveling (a carnivore) loved his meal too! I had the Banh Mi. Totally yummy. I want to take this place home with me!
