Stopped by for late breakfast 11:30 AM and ordered the 3egg scrambled eggs w/ bacon, toast, home fries and unlimited coffee. Food was good especially bacon was not salty and very smoky. My friend ordered fried egg sandwich w/ ham and Swiss on English muffin. It's a sort of blue collar place serving fresh food in a simple fashion. Place was clean. Coffee full bodied and endless cup. They use real butter, not margarine. The lunch menu features sandwiches, wraps, burgers and hot dogs in all varieties. Met grandchildren of the founder, and they are working at the place . I love coming here. I grew up in Carmel so when I come back I come to George's and always bring my Dad. I had Eggs Benedict, which I usually don't get when I come here, and it was perfect. We always come in for breakfast and my favorite food item to order is a McGeorge with Keibasa. Service is always good and I'm never let down by the food. We come here quite often and is one of my favorite stops in Carmel. Prices are reasonable too. read more

The food here is nothing to write home about. Looks really outdated. I come here from time to time for breakfast. I'll stay and have breakfast as long as I don't get this particular waitress. Her job is an after-thought and she never checks on tables. I have had to get up every time she is my waitress to get my own condiments or (God forbid) ask for a coffee refill. You're better off going to the Carmel diner or Eveready diner. read more

I like this place- we need a good go-to diner and this is it! My husband and I just moved from Westchester to Carmel, and we live down the road from George's. It's got a level of kitsch that I appreciate, especially with the picture of George on the way in! We came here for breakfast when we were house hunting and ate outside with our 2 dogs on their patio, and recently when my family helped us move in we went to get food here. Home fries were crispy, and the Carmel Waffle is amazing- my brother got the Turkey Dinner or something and it was pretty good- the stuffing was delicious. We got some sort of baked egg dish too- and it was delish. Waitstaff was SO friendly, and it is still a family owned and operated place which is always a plus. This is definitely a go-to place for us now that we live nearby! read more

Terrible service. There is one typical rude and grumpy waitress around 60 plus age. She was wearing george's place uniform and name was "D something" She didnt smile and look at customers like animal, because my parents didnt speak English between family and that waitress didnt understand what we talked. I ordered coffee and asked refill, she never came back so I thought I do self service since she seemed so busy then that waitress said "refill is only once" and yelled at me. So I said " should I throw it away now? We dont have waitress' service at all "She didnt bring any water cups anything. She brought bill only. There is another nice waitress who was wearing beautiful scarf and jewelries, she apologized instead and brought waters for us, so I still paid tips for nice waitress. It was very first time to go to George's place because we have things to do nearby and my neighbors recommended so I was excited but this waitress was completely ruined my mood and restaurant is too filthy, too old, and foods are not so tasty when comparing with same level diner like carmel diner, eveready diner. Egg omelet was too dry, cheap white bread from supermarket,m. Coffee was tasty and blueberry pancake was great, though. My family have usually been to upscale restaurants in NYC, westchester area and yes it was very big mistake to go to George's place. I am popular at town and knows everyone so I am going to share my horrible experience with that waitress and at least my friends wont go there anymore. read more

Crabby Waitress and Torn Upholstery When you show up at a restaurant you want to feel that you aren't interrupting the waitress. Given she is doing nothing for other customers it gets things off to a bad start. The next problem is the booths. We got snagged on the ripped seat cushion. This elicited no interest from the staff. The place needs freshening up. The photos on the wall are faded. This is not a restaurant where they are keeping beloved antiques. It is a place where they are not spending a dollar that they can keep. I used to like George's but as they say, "That was then." read more

Don't go to this place. It looked quaint on the outside but when entering it was a completely dismal atmosphere that was outdated. The ceiling tiles had water damage or were missing. I decided to give this place a chance but the service was what really did it for me. None of the waitresses seemed eager or available to help serve us. We had to get up to get our own straws because it was impossible to track someone down. The food was okay but not worth the service. Our waitress messed up our order and was very unfriendly until we left. How can you mess up 2 eggs? Very disappointed. read more

Breakfast sandwiches and omelets are all delicious. The decor makes you feel right at home, as does the staff. I will continue to go to George's as long as I live in Carmel. I hesitate to write this brief review. However, I feel the need to help my fellow neighbor. After moving up from the city I felt I needed a good replacement for the neptune diner. The Mt. Kisco diner did it for a while. The improved their food game big time but it went to crap after about 6 months. Bedford diner is no better. Country side kitchen seemed promising but that place is always crowded and the portions are too large (yummy though). Eveready Diner likes to mix chicken bits into its home fries (GROSS). But on a whim, my family and I ended up at Georges Place. Man oh man! The food is solid. No weird stuff. The sausage links are great (and I don't like them usually). You just go in, seat yourself, and they get the coffee on the table. They are fast, friendly and the food hits the spot every time. I have only one complaint, WHITE GRAVY FOR THE BISCUITS PLEASE! Not BROWN! :) Okay, so now you have it. The secret is out. Go here, make it your diner. You wont regret it. read more

Alright first of all... George's is NOT is Westchester. This is Putnam, its a completely different county. And its so not the boonies, if you want to boonies, try going another 2 hours or so farther up. Im talking cornfields in backyards, two cops to a town and you can honestly say that every Saturday night you go muddin'. So yeah, George's might not have frills, but they dont need it. The food more than makes up for it. Quick service, good eats, friendly people, and good prices for these days. Besides, its better than the ACTUAL diner across the street. George's is one of those places where you think of a good breakfast (bacon, eggs and hash browns) and say... I'm craving George's. The seating is definetly older diner. All booths, no loose tables laying around, and a nice view of Lake Gleneida. As for the coffee, Ive never had it, but wow... is cream such a big deal? All you have to do is ask for some. Why hand it out and have it go bad, when a lot of people will only use regular milk? So from me, George's, you are THE BEST, and you so get 5 stars. read more

We made our first trip back to George's since the TV renovation a few years ago, and we were pleasantly surprised by the updated look of the restaurant. George's is now bright, cheerful and clean. Unfortunately, it appears the Food Network didn't have enough money in its budget to fix the stained ceiling tiles in the front dining room, but overall a vast improvement over the old look. The food was very tasty, with our only complaint being that our burgers were extremely well-done, after having asked for medium and medium-well. The staff is incredibly friendly. We like that George's is very community-minded, particularly in providing free Thanksgiving meals each year to local residents with no place else to go for the holiday, so we'll very likely return soon to sample some other menu items. read more

My family and I live about 30 minutes away and have visited here twice in the past year for special occasions, as we enjoy frequenting locations that are privately or family owned. We have had the same unpleasant experience both times. This last visit, we arrived at 12:20pm on Sunday afternoon. We were kindly greeted and shown to our booth. The waitress was friendly, although I quickly realized shortly after what was going on. She asked if we were ready to order, and we asked for a few minutes. She literally returned a minute later asking if we were all set, even though we all had our menus opened. We asked again for another minute or two, and quickly decided. She took our order. She never returned after that until she brought our food, even though the restaurant was less than half full. I had to ask someone else for more coffee. When she brought our food, she was stacking plates that had the bottom of one plate resting on the food underneath it. That is disgusting. After she dropped our food, we never saw her again. Never came to ask how our lunch was or if we needed anything. I looked around to see where she was, as my daughter wanted a side of bleu cheese for her sandwich, and she was behind the counter doing her side work. Again, I had to ask someone else for a side of bleu cheese. Nobody ever checked on us. I had to ask others for things we needed. After about 20 minutes, she came over to us and cleared my father's plate, who was finished, not saying a word. Then she proceeded to quickly wipe down all the empty booths around us, which was about half of them, again, never acknowledging us. She dropped the check and thanked us, and again, disappeared behind the counter. We couldn't have felt anymore inconveniencing or unwelcome than we did this day, and had a similar experience when we arrived an hour before they closed the last visit we had. We like to support family businesses and places that are apart of their community, although we will not be returning here. This was supposed to be a nice part of my daughter's confirmation day, and nice it was definitely not. Working in the restaurant business myself for 20 years, this is exactly how you should never treat your guests. read more

George is turning in his grave. This place has gone downhill. The ceiling tiles show serious signs of leaks and some of them are hanging loosely. The air vent on the ceiling is filthy black with dirt. The floor tiles are a mess, with many of them missing, and you can't help but notice all the food that diners have spilled on the floor which has not been cleaned up. As for the food, I have issues there too. The coffee is tasteless and refills were not offered. The hamburger I ordered medium came out very well done. The french fries were tasteless too. I was last here about 10+ years ago and I remember that charbroiled burger being one of the best ever. I was quite disappointed today, and I will not be returning. read more
