I ordered the Seafood Pasta and the food was okay--not great, but not too bad either. It was just good (right in the middle). The cornbread that comes after you order was pretty good. Service was extremely friendly and fast. I highly recommend the Appetizer Sampler which is good for 4-6 people or 2 people as a decent meal. While every item was great, the standout, hands-down were the Devils on Horseback (bacon-wrapped dates, goat cheese, and oil and vinegar). Perfect Wednesday Date Night If you're having a birthday or if you have a large group I would definitely recommend Georgia Browns. We started off with happy hour. Happy Hour ends at 7pm. We had at least 12 people in our party. The table was ready when we arrived. The service was good and the food was good. I thought the calamari was a little salty. What a DC staple! The only complaint I have is with myself because why did it take me so long to come here?! It was so nice we tried it twice. Once as a date, then again with visiting family. They do automatic gratuity no matter party size and my biggest issue with this is, it determines the mood of the service bc their is no lose to the server. I had the unfortunate opportunity to visit your spot on my last day of vacation in Washington, DC It was unfortunate because of the following: 1. We were told no seating was available outside, only for us to view a table unused the whole hour and half we were there 2. We were seated away from all other guests in the restaurant, in a very cold area,and after asking if a fan could be cut off, we were told they had to ask a manager, after we also witnessed another table doing the exact same thing and their fan was quickly turned off without notification to a manager. 3. Waitress comes to table, never introduces herself; explained specials and began to leave until I told her we were ready to order. 4. Our drinks (iced tea) arrived, and then we never saw anyone until our food arrived. Waitress never came to check to see if drinks needed to be refilled, which mine did. When she did finally show up my brother asked for a different drink; she never recognized or cared that my glass was visibily almost empty. I also at this same time asked for a to go box. She never returns with that. Another waiter shows up with my brother's drink, I request a another drink (iced tea), and that never shows up. 5. We were never offered any appetizers (I ordered bread basket w/o being asked) nor desserts. Another person shows up to clear plates, and I again ask for a take out tray, which she came right back with. I was just done by now and ready to go, but because of where we were seated, it was hard for us to see them and them to see us. So, I just told my brother, let's go, I'm done with this place. Waitress casually walks by us as we stand by the front door and I ask for our checks. Yes, I'm very angry by now and we're standing by the bar, where I see a register and I simply want to cash out there. I don't want to give my cc to waitress. The person seating those coming in finally realizes there's a problem and steps in to try to help. Again, I am very upset and trying hard to not shed tears or get louder than I was. I just wanted out. When I saw my check had an auto gratuity, it was just another blow in the face; no one there deserved a tip. He took it off. He did ask several times how they could prevent this from happening in the future, so here it is. Treat ALL guests as the GUESTS they are, with the utmost respect and genuine concern. We told the person who seated us, we were both from out of town and we were there to celebrate our last evening in town. If you hear this (HEAR this), make sure these people feel really good about being in your establishment. We witnessed many of the people around us (those that I could see, my brother's back was to them all) being talked to and laughed with from their encounters with staff, but that was not anywhere close to what we got. Just not that good. That's what you'll come away from this place thinking. I ordered the country fried steak, and at $36, I expected a decent bit of heavily battered crispy juicy cube steak with a couple heaps of mashed potatoes and alongside a bright and spicy corn medly. Nope. It was a 10oz bit of tough rubber steak with many large chunks of gristle (actually inedible) slapped onto of a smear of mealy mashed potatoes and a spoonful of creamed corn with some pepper bits. The cornbread was okay, but very bread and little hint of cornmeal or taste. The butter was excellent, reminiscent of Texas Roadhouse, just without the cinnamon. The ice tea was awful. Lipton instant peach... seriously? Just so dissapointing. The breading on the steak was thin and greasy with no flavor or texture. The gracy (brown) was just salty and was likely from an instant mix. The service was good. The wait staff kept checking in and I feel like they were pretty dissapointed when I left more than half my meal at the end of the dinner. Just not worth it to eat it. Someone recommended this place while I'm In town. The atmosphere was very elegant and thy had live music until Closing. They are a little pricey but the food was AMAZING!!! I had the salmon and my daughter has the chicken, very good portions. The staff were really nice and our waiter was comical and informative. It's located in downtown so they have valet parking for $20 although we took an Uber. We had a reservation for Sunday brunch and it was delicious! They had a live jazz band playing while we ate. Our brunch meal was 4 courses: Inspirations, Omelets, Entrees, and Desserts (see pic of menu). We also opted for endless mimosas - they had several flavors to choose from and we selected pineapple which ended up being a great choice. The food we selected was delicious: fried green tomatoes, smoked salmon salad, omelets, French toast, Grandma's Smothered Biscuits, and slices of pecan pie, red velvet cake, and sweet potato cheesecake. My server explained the menu - they were serving 6 courses on this particular day & you had several options to choose from. I started with biscuits which were nice and fluffy but did not hold up once they cooled. Then the catfish bites and the shrimp and grits - worst I've ever had...ever! Like everything served, my food was under seasoned which was a major red-flag considering the place is listed as black-owned. I will say that the creole salmon was very salty but paired well with the dirty rice. I didn't even wait on the dessert to come out because my experience was so underwhelming. I came here a couple of weeks ago for dinner. When I came on Saturday night; it was very good. The waitress Diamond was wonderful and Shane the bartender was great. The place was very nice and the food was very good. The food was done very well. I ordered the biscuits and they were perfect flavorful and fluffy and soft. The main course I had were half orders. I had the seafood paella and gumbo. I wanted both dishes and the waitress recommended I order half dishes. The half dishes were the perfect suggestion for me. The seafood paella was very good. The gumbo was ok but I think it was because it became cold by the time I ate the dish. That was my first time eating gumbo. Therefor I have nothing to compare it to. My husband surprised me with a visit to Georgia Brown's this past weekend to celebrate my birthday. We haven't dined here for years, so it was definitely a very welcome surprise! Thanks, husband! First, you can book a table for the restaurant on the app called Open Table. My husband and I live in Baltimore county, so it is great to know that you will have a table at a set time, rather than just showing up and trying your luck. She provided us with suggestions and recommendations from the menu, which a greatly appreciated because I was help to try to menu items instead of just one. I ordered The Hartley, which was a very strong, yet very tasty alcoholic beverage. My husband and I shared an appetizer sampler which was said to feed four to five people, but the two of us were able to finish it on our own. As self-identified foodie, we can eat! Appetizers were fried chicken livers, devil eggs, bbq bacon wraps, fried green tomatoes, and catfish. Catfish was good. My husband loved the bay on wraps. Shrimp and grits with sausage was next. Stopped at Georgia Brown's on a trip to DC. It happened to be happy hour at the bar, even though it was Sunday. Most places don't do happy hour on Sundays. That was a pleasant surprise, and they had a really good happy hour menu. I started with the soco mule, a nice take on the Moscow mule. I ended up getting a couple of those. Complementary corn bread came out next, which was a nice way to start the meal. For my food order, I started off with the biscuits. It's 3 large biscuits with butter and jam. I only ate one, and it was delicious. I took the other two home and made sausage, egg & cheese biscuit sandwiches with them. I also ordered fried catfish fingers and calamari. The catfish fingers were so good. The best catfish I've had anywhere. The calamari was a perfectly fried top notch plate of calamari. I was there on national chocolate cake day, so I ordered a chocolate cake for dessert. Unfortunately, it was a flourless cake. I came here recently for dinner with group of four people. They brought out water and cornbread with sweet cream butter. The cornbread was served warm. I had a Moscow Mule (that was not served in the traditional copper mug). Our server sort of got our checks mixed up and made several mistakes splitting the bill. Another issue was in the ladies restroom. There were two stalls, one smaller and one larger. Inside of the smaller stall, there were not hooks on the door to hang a handbag or jacket. Just a tight stall and it was out of toilet tissue. Unacceptable. The portion for the baked chicken was impressive. The seasoning was ok. The skin was extremely flavorful, really good, but the flavor did not go throughout the rest of the chicken. It was sort of dry and lacked flavor. The gravy helped, but I've had way better baked chicken. The side dishes were delish. I really enjoyed the corn and collards. Everyone else at the table enjoyed their dishes. Another issue, I asked to take some of my meal to go. When I opened the container, the mini metal cup holding the gravy was inside the take home container. I figured that was a mistake. There was no gravy because it spilled and the corn bread absorbed it. Went here on Easter for my friend's birthday brunch and loved it. There was live music playing and the decorum was very classy. Our waiter was friendly and made sure to keep the bottomless mimosas coming. The brunch includes an appetizer, entree, omelet, and dessert platter. I got the fried green tomatoes for my appetizer and it was definitely my favorite part of the meal. I know it's simple but it was made to perfection. For my entree I chose the fried catfish and grits. It was okay but I wish the fish had more seasoning. They have an omelette station where you go up and get your omelette but I decided I didn't want one. A couple of my friends got one and it looked delicious. The dessert platter was mid; nothing amazing but it wasn't bad. It consisted of things like pecan pie and cheesecake. I really think the ambiance won me over but I'm not mad at the chef. I was pleased to give this long standing establishment a try. The venue was nicely furnished and decorated. The menu at first glance was impressive as were the dishes we observed being enjoyed around us. I selected the fried green tomatoes to try as it's one of my favorite dishes. I was very pleased. I got the fried chicken dinner as my main entrée the chicken was generously portioned, crispy yet juicy and the gravy was a very nice compliment. I have had better mashed potatoes but the greens we flavorful. Unfortunately, the pleasantries from our server Kai were short lived. Her temperament led us to believe that she was agitated. I asked for a dessert to go. The menu stated that it was a la mode. I noticed that my ice cream was not in my package to which she responded that there were no more bowls although my cobbler was packaged in a bowl. I was taken aback that she just decided not to give me what should have been included in my purchase rather than ask me my preference but I politely asked for a dine in serving. We had a group dinner of 10. Service was a little slow, but Emanuel was attentive and caring. Food was excellent. Everyone had a variety of the menu and all commented on the taste and quality. The restaurant was not full. Normally it is packed. Atmosphere is pleasant. read more
