During a recent 4 day stay in New Haven, my family's favorite meal was hands down at Georgie's Diner. My sister and her husband were excited by the vegan bounty on the Georgie's menu. She had a seasonal vegan hash made with butternut squash: he had a vegan reuben! The rest of my family had variations of eggs, all cooked to perfection. Cooking eggs isn't easy! I would give a sixth star to the staff who are probably the ones giving TLC, food and shelter to a wild cat behind the restaurant, by the train tracks. A neat local diner with decent vegan options. This diner is the sister location of Guilford's Shoreline Diner. The menu here is similar, but somewhat smaller. It also looks newer inside and has a recently redesigned menu. The vegan options range from pancakes to soups and a few sandwiches. The Tempeh Reuben is usually my go-to here. It's a decent-sized sandwich and the meal is fairly filling and tasty. The prices, much like Shoreline, are just a bit too high. Sandwiches for $12.50? The food is good, but not that amazing. Five bucks for a glass of juice? Service is inconsistent. My most recent visit featured lazy service. We went to pay the bill and three young women were just standing at the register chatting. They didn't even acknowledge us for at least 20 seconds. Overall, Georgie's is a neat diner with novelty offerings, including many vegan and gluten-free options. I recommend Georgie's for a special meal or gathering, but not for daily visits. Even though they have vegan meals, good luck finding more than one vegan dessert. They have a loyalty program, but you have to spend $1000 dollars (1000 points) to get a reward. That's just silly. read more

This is an amazing Diner! It's not your typical Diner because it offers vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and organic food. It has a small restaurant feel and has really creative options in addition to your Diner classics. I love how they have outdoor seating with flowers and plants to block you from the highway. Parking is tight, but they have a dirt lot behind it and always a spot there. Always crowded so you can expect good food and portions. They love powdered sugar, so make sure if you don't want any to say so. Seating is good but the booths are tight with a wide angled metal support under them. Best French toast I've ever had. If you get it plain, it has a creme brûlée quality to it, where the sugar is slightly burnt. The crispy sugar edges contrast the custardy bread perfectly. This diner has great food and service . Passing through CT, needed Gluten Free option for one family member and she got the chicken parm which she loved and was very happy with its quality. So hard to find good GF food on the road. They have practices in place to prevent cross contamination, have great fries, burgers , wraps and more. Fresh home made lemonade, too! There was clearly a line to be seated which probably means the food is good but no one greeted me for 10 minutes and I kept asking where I needed to go to be put on the wait list and everyone told me 1 minute but no one helped so I left. I wish I remembered his name so I could give him a shoutout. We were there on August 2nd if that helps. Many gluten free choices. I had the crab Benedict, gluten free. Tons of crab, really good, thick, whole grain gf bread and the hollandaise was divine. My husband and I shared the caramel apple French toast, gluten free!! It was heavenly. What a wholesome breakfast! I tired the southwest scrambled pictured above and so single buckwheat pancake ! Pancake was delicious with vegan butter and not overly sweeet maple syrup. The scramble tofu was more beans than tofu and the recipes could use a little more "umph" to it because it really tasted more like beans. I went with four other non vegans once of which had a burger and he classified it as a "good diner burger." It's aiite. Props to an old-school looking diner like Georgie's to try and offer healthier options in its menu. The service was good. It's a small, neighborhood diner in the middle of West Haven and I stopped there in the middle of a work trip for a quick lunch. My concern is that food could be healthy without sacrifice too much taste, and I was just not impressed with the taste of my food. The chicken salad was a little bland and kind of dry and the beef barley was over salted. Colleagues report similar experience with their sandwiches. I was surprised when I bit into my pickle expecting... well, a pickle, and ended up with a salted cucumber. Not sure what it is exactly. Kind of a shame, because I did appreciate the warms service and the wait staff. I will probably skip this next time and try another option in New Haven as time permits. read more

Great little find in southern CT, with easy to navigate vegan options! Found this place via Yelp and decided to head over during Sunday brunch. Tiny little parking lot and tiny little restaurant overall. The breakfast menu had about 6 options, the lunch menu 6 or 7 as well. Your non-vegan friends can order what they want and you can order what you want. Win-win! I was feeling something savory so I ordered the vegan breakfast burrito with vegan bacon, tofu, avocado, and tomatoes on a whole wheat wrap with a side of salsa. This is my favorite diner ever! And I've been to plenty all around New York but Georgie's in New Haven takes the cake! My best friend lives in Connecticut and has recently been in the hospital so when I came to visit her in February with my mom and sister we needed to find a place to eat on our way home. My sisters vegan so it's always tough trying to find places where everyone can eat since my mom is also really picky! I found this place by chance on yelp and I'm a sucker for 50's diners so we came on in. Best choice I ever made. The decor is so cute and retro and we had such an incredibly friendly server! (She had lots of tattoos, I don't remember her name!) I got a burger which is incredible because there's dry-aged beef which I wanted to try for a while, and my mom also got one as well, my sister had a vegan burger and said it was really good! The food was awesome and the service was absolutely incredible! We also ordered some coffee (which has free refills!) and before I left I asked for a to-go cup to pour the rest of my mug into and the server brought me a fresh hot cup instead! A month later when going to visit my friend again my boyfriend came with me instead and after I raved about Georgie's the first time he offered that we could go (which I was totally gonna offer as well) I got the crab cake BLT which was so incredible and he had the cheeseburger which he said was a really great burger and super juicy!! The crabcake didn't taste fake and processed, or bready like they usually do but instead you got the taste of crab and it was so incredible! It comes on a home made english muffin as well with an Old Bay remoulade which sold it for me, my boyfriend hates crabcakes but said this one exceeded his expectations! The second time we had an equally friendly server and the hostess told us about their adorable cat who was outside and we saw her go over to feed her and check on her, it feels like such a homey environment! Also two other nice things: A. the bathrooms are REALLY nice and clean! like a bathroom in someones house! B. I was getting blisters on the back of my heels from my shoes and I asked the hostess if they had bandaids and they actually spent time looking for them which was super sweet and were genuinely apologetic when they didn't have any. This place is exceptional and whoever hires these workers does a great job because they're all some of the sweetest restaurant staff I've ever met! Great diner in the New Haven area. This place has a dedicated vegetarian / vegan menu which is a huge plus. The food is delicious, the service is good, and it has a great atmosphere. My only qualm is that the grill for breakfast food has a ton of meat and bacon cooked on it , and if you order hash browns with a vegetarian meal , you are definitely getting some meat grease with your food. I wish they would have a vegetarian section of the grill or some other solution. We were on our way back from New York City and needed a quick dinner so decided to stop at Georgie's As they had vegetarian options. From a vegetarian perspective it was disappointing. Everything that they had on their vegan menu contains soy. As we all know Soy is not good for you! I ended up getting a salad-which was OK. I also got a bowl of their bean chili which left a lot to be desired. It was tasteless. My fiancé ordered a cheeseburger which he said was fantastic and his fries looked really good. If it was up to me I would give them one star because the vegan menu is terrible. And, their menu online is not the same menu as when you get there. However my fiancé loved his meal so much that I feel it depends on what You were going there for. read more

This is a gem, a secret little spot that offers amazing fresh food. They home make their own salsa - wow it was like fireworks on my taste buds. Great find along our travels for two very picky breakfast eaters. Being plant based it's such a challenge to find a breakfast place that offers more that just oatmeal. But Georgie's did not disappoint at all. With two tofu scramble and a tofu wrap I settled on the butternut squash scramble and it was great. And a vegan butter !!!! Wow way to pay attention to details :) My hubs had two eggs over medium and he's a stickler for correctly cooked eggs and he was so happy with Gus breakfast he even says it's the best breakfast he's had in longer than he can remember. Used to love this place, but as covid hit I've had their food a couple of times since and their quality is not the same and portion size dropped noticeably. I've been to other restaurants/diners that have similar prices to what Georgie's charge, Georgie's quality doesn't compare to those other places that I've questioned their prices multiple times. They're new menu is SO detailed, listing the top 7 allergens, and makes it easy to navigate, no matter your food preferences or restrictions. Now let me be clear, their food is great, and if you have strict dietary constraints, as I do, then they are a blessing. Generally I like the staff as well. Here's the problem: the prices. MY GOD the prices. Not only are they monumentally high, but they are sometimes double or even triple the cost of the same dish elsewhere in town. And their sizing doesn't make any sense either. We were here with a group of people and the food was great, the decor is very retro-kitsch. the only problem (its not really a problem) was for me the counter stools weren't super comfortable for sitting a long time.. i have been to the other vegetarian enclave diner and used to go to their location in fairfield years ago. they all have been good food with many options for vegetarians, vegans, and people looking for gluten-free choices. cant wait to go back and get the vegetarian reuben. fries looked good. rings looked really good. the super clean flat top griddle is out in the open right in front of the countertop so you can watch them cooking most things while you wait. I had never been to the elm diner that was here previously so i cannot comment on the previous quality or the quality of where that one moved to (and last i checked i couldnt find a web page or review for their new location) parking lot was a little on the small side and the enter and exit lanes werent totally ideal for entering and exiting. getting out of our spot took a few back-and-forths .. no big deal though, the food was great! read more

The food seemed like what *I* would consider a diner - usually overcooked, not that tasty, but filling and decent enough. It isn't something I would seek out - it was "just there" - I didn't enjoy it immensely, but I didn't NOT enjoy it either. The company was more fun than the food. I've always gotten their sausage, egg and cheese with wheat toast and grits, my signature dish when it comes to this place and my fancy breakfast needs. Ever tried grits with carnation milk? Very different and delicious. Their French Toast is incredible. Although I've not had many of their other meals, their food has not tossed me to the side.
