Pizza was cold the fist time it came to the table after an hour of waiting. The second time it was half as good as it usually is. My husband and I ate at Geraldo's on Sunday evening. The atmosphere was nice, but overall our experience was not. We were seated at 5:50 and did not receive our food until 6:45. During that time I was completely underwhelmed by the salad bar. The lettuce did not seem fresh and the Italian dressing just tasted of oil (my husband couldn't even taste it!). The disappointment continued when we received our entrees. I ordered the Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. The Alfredo sauce was alright but that was all I enjoyed about the dish. The pasta was overcooked and the dish was greasy. My husband's sausage calzone was the real disappointment. It seemed overcooked on the outside but when he cut into it there was a lot of raw squishy dough inside on the bottom of the calzone. On top of that it had an overwhelming taste of pepper and had huge pieces of green bell peppers that made it hard to eat. By the end of our meal my husband was starting to feel sick to his stomach and when we got home that night he became ill. I definitely attribute his upset stomach to the food at Geraldo's. The service staff was somewhat helpful and pleasant besides the fact that they neglected my empty drink for the entirety of the meal and I did not get a refill. I'm not one to leave reviews but this restaurant made me want to write one. This was the saltiest food I have ever consumed in my life. I bet the water is even salted. Earlier today, my family ordered 3x beer batter halibut entrees, two with french onion soup, and one with salad to go. Considering I've eaten at Geraldo's more times than I can count, I'm incredibly disappointed over this. $87 dollar order that nobody was able to eat more than a few bites of. -The beer batter halibut was literally unseasoned, incredibly greasy, and overall bland. And yes, I do mean 'literally' in this case. -The french onion soup was incredibly salty with a full mm at least of oil sitting on top of it. -Didn't even try the salad at this point. Called the restaurant and asked to speak to a manager about this order. Long story short, she (the manager) explained that they 'don't season the halibut in case someone is allergic to something,' and that she could either have the order resubmitted with salt added, or speak to the owner about a partial refund and get back to us later in the evening. As of this review roughly 7 hours later, they have not contacted us in any way to attempt to make this right. Edit: earlier today my family received a call saying that they'll refund 20% of the order, basically less than the cost of one entree when nobody could finish more than a few bites. While they did 'attempt' to fix this, it is still unsatisfactory in my opinion. read more

I got seated quickly. Ordered the fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp,comes with garlic bread and choice of soup or salad. I opted for the salad. The salad bar was very lacking. No croutons,and only had lettuce and a handful of different types of dressings. The fettuccine as well was a miss., it came with jumbo shrimp as promised but the whole dish itself was bland and had no taste. I had to add a bit of salt just to have some flavor. Garlic bread had seasoning but came out cold. It's a 3 because of service alone, my server was attentive and friendly otherwise I would have chosen only 1 star overall. read more

I raved about it and took friends and family, Well last month I went and ordered the French Onion soup and...what a let down. Geraldo's may be the best Italian you will get in Fairbanks. Let's be honest, that's not saying a whole lot. It's Fairbanks you know. I've been several times. The food can be quite good. And they do love garlic, so your food tastes really garlicky (and if you don't like that you won't enjoy the food). The pizzas are quite nice, and again if you like garlic, you can go all out. The last time I came, I got the eggplant parmesan and it was incredibly tasty. Very enjoyable. The service is a bit spotty though. Our server seemed to disappear for ages (and it wasn't busy when we went at all), and we were trying to find someone to get us some wine. Then before we were finished eating we were offered dessert. Strange. Just remember fairly good Italian and lots of garlic. If this sounds like your ideal, Geraldo's is your place! read more

What you got here is a half way decent italian restaurant with expensive food that is half way decent. You'll pay a lot, and get an OK meal. I would advise staying away from the the main pasta dishes and sticking with their pizzas. Their pizzas are really good, my personal favorite is the garlic lovers pizza. Here's their biggest down fall--their service. It's an unmitigated disaster. In an ideal situation when you eat out, you expect the following: 1. A host will greet you and take your name down. 2. Eventually someone will escort you to your table and possibly ask for your drink order. 3. A short while later a server will ask for your order. 4. Every now and then your server may check your drinks. 5. Food comes out. 6. You eat. 7. Your server takes away the unedible vittles and give you a check. 8. Your server comes back for your check, takes payment and usually draws a smiley face on the receipt in hopes of receiving a tip. This establishment seems to do OK with step 1 and 2. Then things fall apart. Step 3 may or may not happen and if it does, it won't happen in any particular order (I've found if you're a white person with a collared shirt, step 3 will come your way a little quicker vs the mustard stained wife-beater.) Instead expect step 4 to happen. A lot. They seem to have these servers whose sole purpose is to nothing but fill water glasses. It's all they know how to do. They don't speak, they don't serve and they don't answer questions; they just fill your water glass. It kind of reminds me of those floor reps in Walmart. Whenever you need them, they look at you blankly and tell you they don't work that dept... which then begs the question, if you don't work that dept, what the helll are you doing there right? I digress. Once your server does take time out of her day to get your order, I would suggest getting out your cell phone and playing some video games, Soduko would be the way to go. I play Zombiebirds myself and after about 40 mins, I switch over to Angry Birds. Eventually your food will come. My wife got the pasta with meatballs. The meatballs are not homemade, they come from Sam's Club and are frozen. They may or may not be thawed by the time they reach your table. These are just things us Alaskans just have to learn to accept, right? The pizza was good. Not worth the wait. Just good. I'd highly suggest carry-out and just order the pizza. If you insist on eating in, plan on a long night and bring cash, if you give them a credit card, your server might get lost between the register and your table. I was very surprised to find this place in Fairbanks. It's more like what you would expect to find in a large city in the lower 48. It's a lot larger inside than it looks from the outside so if the parking lot is full, go in anyway. My wife and I had a large plate of spaghetti with meatballs and a Cesar Salad. The wine selection is fantastic and served in great wine glasses that really allow the wine to breathe. Downsides: the parking area is a little small to handle busy weekend customers. And last night, my girlfriend and I were seated at a table crammed into the back corner of the room. We found this on a recent outing in Fairbanks, looking for a good Italian restaurant. Geraldo's was close and had decent ratings. It was not very busy when we arrived, but we had to wait several minutes before our drink order was taken, and by that time we were also ready to order our food. Nice salad bar, and the food was well prepared, but more expensive than we were used to. Also, there was nothing extra like bread or anything, something we were accustomed to in the lower-48. With no extras, no special drinks, and pretty basic menu choices the bill for four of us was $100 with the tip. Geraldo's is a very quiet and pleasant Italian establishment in Fairbanks. The food was very good not too much, but you didn't leave hungry. We both had Spaghetti and meat balls but what impressed us the most was our waitress Lydia. She was so cheerful and attentive even though she had a waitress in training. Went to Geraldo's for dinner tonight. I had the special of the day which was chicken breast in a garlic cream sauce with mushrooms and sun dried tomatoes and it was delicious! Had the buffet for lunch. One person was complaining about no zucchini, and sure enough after we paid, and started walking out they were putting zucchini on the buffet table (just in time for the late lunch crowd). Meatballs were ok, marinara a tad sweet. Other than the, salad options (boring) and zucchini, the choices are pretty high on the calories and glycemic for lunch. Italian food is so much more than semolina pasta, with cream sauce and cheese. The lunch buffet is too mundane and too heavy, and pricy, for lunch. I was cautious about going to Geraldo's because of the reviews but found it to be really good food. The servers are nice. We were seated right away on a busy holiday weekend. We helped ourselves to the salad bar which wasn't bad. We got the Fried Calamari for an appetizer and it was awesome. The calamari was tender and my favorite part of the sauce was the dab of minced garlic in the center. I wished they'd given us a teaspoon full. We were practically full by the time our meals got there after a big salad and huge plate full of calamari. But my lasagna was so good that it was the best I've had in some time. There were chunks of funneled sausage and bits of ground beef with tons of sauce and cheese which was perfect for dunking the buttered, garlic bread in. My partner got the veal scallopini that came with a side of olive oil and garlic linguine. The gravy and mushrooms that came with the veal were outstanding as was the side of pasta that accompanied it perfectly. The only downside was the limp, unseasoned side of zucchini that came with both dishes. I'm not sure what that was all about. We took home half of each of our dishes and they even reheated to another great meal. So pleased with Geraldo's that I've promised to bring my mom back here for a dinner I'm sure she'd really enjoy. We were too stuffed for dessert but maybe next time. Update: We've been to Geraldo's many times over the years and it is really hit or miss. Things that are pretty guaranteed are limp zucchini and a million scallion threads on every dish, very hot inside in the summer and super long waits for service. Depending on what you order, Geraldo's can either be really good or just plain average. The pizza is usually what we go for, since a lot of times my whole family is there and we don't feel like paying for a huge dinner. The pizza is normally pretty good, but we have had a few times where it's just been awful. The appetizer list is solid. Where Geraldo's has consistently let us down is in service. It seems like we always have to wait a long time and we're always searching for someone to give us refills. The first thing you see when you walk into Geralado's is a sign that proclaims the restaurant's love for garlic. It was love at first sight! My favorite part of this Italian restaurant is it's quaintness. It feels well lived in but not dirty -- like a comfy pair of old jeans. Not glitzy but comfortable. Their menu is what you'd expect, lasagna, spaghetti, manicotti, oh my! All lathered in the deliciousness we love to call cheese. If you're into counting calories this is probably not the place for you, but the salad bar is always stocked with fresh crisp veggies and the pizza (though I've never had it) looks delicious as well, so there really is something for everyone. The average cost per person is about $20 on the cheaper side and $30 on the higher end depending on what dish you get and if you're a wine lover like myself. I recommend taking a good friend or a first date to this quaint place -- the atmosphere is perfect for chatting the evening away and the booths allow for a bit of privacy. This is NOT the Geraldo's you remember fron several years ago. The food has gone downhill in the last year. I ordered spaghetti and meatballs. Spaghetti arrived 40 minutes later (& only after we had grabbed the waiter and said :Hey!) as a cooling cold lump with a heavy cold tomato sauce. A dark and dingy but strangely attractive Italian Pizzeria. The outside is rather ugly but the inside is uniquely furnished. The staff is very friendly although when I went there they were a bit overworked and so were a bit slow. The real issue is that the food is outright bad. Let me put it this way, I hope you like chunks of garlic the size of your pinky finger nail in your food because that is what you're going to get. I'm all for garlic but you have to chop it fine otherwise every other bite is going to be a bitter crunch which is what we got. It doesn't matter what you order if it has garlic you're going to get this. The bites that manage to be garlic free are quite good just they are few and far in between. In the end if they just minced their garlic finer it would be a good place, but to put it bluntly we had lots to take home and it ended up never being eaten. read more

Ordered the Ravioli, and it was as good as could be expected. For Fairbanks, AK, this is a pretty nice place. Pricey, but good, expect to spend about 20-30/person.
