The sandwiches at Gere a Deli are awesome. The Avocado BLT was awesome and really hit the spot after a nice hike. My girlfriend had a pastrami and sandwich which was great as well. Coleslaw was solid and had the perfect consistency (not too mayo-ey and not too dry). The chowder was pretty run-of-the-mill, but as a fan of chowder I still enjoyed it. Only drawback was that the service was a little bit slow. Definitely would stop here if you're in beautiful Anacortes. read more

Clam chowder was the best I've ever had, besides for when I was in Boston. Sandwiches were delicious. Tried to get a to go box for the remaining sandwich and was treated as though I was a HUGE interruption. Really amazing sandwiches are made by Gere-a-Deli. My father-in-law who lived in the area for years brought my husband and I here for lunch. We were very impressed and can't wait to return. My FIL schooled us in what is good, explaining you choose the type of bread you want and that a regular sandwich is pretty big. My husband ordered the meatloaf sandwich which is served cold and choose a bag of chips as his side. He ranted about how good his sandwich was. It came with a sweet mustard, mayo, lettuce, tomato and red onion. My FIL got the Gobbler, which is a turkey dinner on a sandwich, consisting of turkey, cranberries, cream cheese and mayo. He said he orders it all the time and it was just as good as always. I ordered the shrimp sandwich, the shrimpie, on sourdough. The bread was phenom! It had sprouts growing in it even, it was so fresh! It came with cream cheese, avocado, cucumber, tomato and sprouts - I asked for no mayo. All of the ingredients were fresh and just super delicious. I choose coleslaw as my side dish which was homemade and not bad, but not good. I would get chips next time. My FIL bought us each a Fidalgo Cookie that was bigger than my hand. It had corn flakes, chocolate chips, pecans and coconut. Super good! I don't like hard cookies, usually not cookies in general either - I don't have much of a sweet tooth - but this one was really good. We took our food to go and ate at a beach, but I want to comment on the atmosphere here. We waited 15 minutes for our food since they were very busy, so I took in my surroundings while waiting. The restaurant is decorated like a 50's diner with a lot of the old signs, red and chrome and also offers patio dining. We saw several people get their to go orders before us. I asked an employee for the status of our food to make sure the order didn't get lost. We also watched a couple walk in the door and walk past the dozen people in line waiting to order to get cookies. The cashier gave them to them without asking them to get in line, irritating a few people that had been waiting in line. One orders and picks up at the counter here. Besides sandwiches and baked goods, they also offer salads, breakfast and salads. Also, if you don't want chips or coleslaw with your sandwich, the other choice for a side is a pickle wedge. Parking is available on the street or a few blocks away in various directions. We had to search for an available parking spot for lunch on a weekday. This is one of my favorite Anacortes stops! The value can't be beat and they offer gluten free bread at no extra charge! My favorite is the East Coast cause the pastrami just can't be beat. My only complaint is I wish they were open on Mondays and that sometimes it is so busy I have to pass on them for lunch because I'd never get my food and have time to eat it on lunch hour. It is nothing short of an exceptional lunch experience where the breads are exceptional, the variety and quality of the sandwiches, soups and desserts are exceptional and can compete on the big stages of Deli's anywhere in the country, yes, especially New York. i ordered a classic breakfast sandwich with sour dough. i don't think it would be worth your time to order that. the sour dough was was to light and almost like a white bread with a little sour taste. the cinnamon roll was delicious and I believe the other items looked good as well. but just a heads up about the breakfast sandwich would not recommend. read more

Egg salad didn't have much flavor neither did the coleslaw. The veggie pocket was okay would have been better had it been layered properly. A local classic! I've had sandwiches in every continental state and I can say without a doubt that these are the best. The fresh mozza is the best by far- but as a vegan I now get it without the dairy. I hope they start carrying vegan mozzarella. Overall, AMAZING. read more
