We found Gere-a-Deli after walking and shopping for a couple hours and it was exactly what we needed! We had a cup of clam chowder and a roll and it was delicious!! Everything is homemade and so good! My husband got a brownie and it was perfect! This is a touristy area but this place was super affordable for a quick bite to eat. There was five of us. We each got a cup of clam chowder, a roll and soda, plus the brownie and it was under $40! Highly recommend!

Such a gem Lovely location in Annacortes. Such a beautiful place. This restaurant is so cute and retro. Sandwiches are uber fresh and delicious. Also ordered the tomato soup but it was too salty. The cinnamon roll is huge and big enough for three people Highly recommend

So yummy!!!! My favorite deli of all times. Everything you want however you want it and the do Gluten Free! I like to build my own sandwich with gf bread, of course, turkey, Swiss cheese, cranberry, avocado, sprouts, and mayo. Their pickles are delicious, as is the coleslaw so I choose both - denying oneself of either is not an option. I can forgo the chips, or add the as well. The service is always warm and friendly. If there's a line out the door, don't be intimidated. It was quickly in. It's worth standing in line. Or, you can order ahead and pick it up at the side door and take it with you. Which I do often.

OMG ginormous portions. We had a cup of chowder, a sub sandwich that was enough to feed four people and a Caesar salad with chicken and some chocolate dessert. I think it was a giant dingdong, but square. I guess the kid said his grandma open this in 1981 the place is packed. Great food great service great portions definitely coming back.

Busy Saturday December 14th 2024. Extensive menu with many options of hot cold sandwiches and salads and a few desserts. I chose the 12" French Dip. Bread perfectly toasted good amount of beef of good quality. Not stringy au just maybe a mix but had a good flavour and not overly salty. I was not a fan of the potato salad had a strong vinegar taste but each their own. I'll be back when we visit our Anacordian friends in Anacortes!

We dined next door however, when we first passed by, we noticed the line was long. With that said, I had to just stop by and grab ne a sandwhich. Long Lines=Must Be Good. We ordered the Old Chicago which is a Pastrami Sandwich. The sandwhich was tasteful and I loved the flavor of the meat. Service was ok. Order at the counter and wait for your name to be called. A nice spot in Anacortes. When I'm in town, I'll stop by again and try different sandwiches. It's a pretty big restaurant.

Easily one of the most crowded restaurants in Anacortes and for good reason! There was a decently long line with pretty full tables, but there was plenty of seating and the interior was very cool looking. It took about 20 minutes to get to the front of the line before ordering. The worker taking the order was very friendly. I ordered a turkey sandwich of some sort with a side of chips. Ate this while waiting for the ferry and it was absolutely delicious! My sandwich was warm, flavorful, and toppings were generous.

Yummy cafe that serves all kinds of sandwiches. You really won't believe how many different kinds they have. We stopped here for lunch as we were visiting Anacortes for the day and then off we went to go hiking. They also have quite a few pastries and desserts to top off the end of a good meal! We sat inside but they have a few tables for outdoor dining. The service was friendly and fast which matched the style of food.

This is our GO TO spot for a GREAT sandwich or salad. I'm addicted to their Greek salad add chicken, or the Turkey chest delight ( and I get Gluten free bread). The sandwiches are huge and are perfect for splitting, the French dip is fantastic as well as the daily salads that you can get in three different sizes. The homemade cookies are such a treat too. Lots of options for soft drinks, and the serve wine and beer. This is THE DELI! But more!

So glad it is back after covid. It was hard to know what the hours were. One of my favorites. They are as good as ever and such a treat with all there selection of wonderful sandwiches, salads, soups and yummy treats. The seating is spacious with outside as well. The staff is very kind and I just really think you cant go wrong here. Super good! read more

I was recommended Gere-a-deli by a travel company and it was so worth it! They've got great measures in place for covid-19 and they are well practiced. Everyone wears a mask, and stands on the stickers for both the bathroom and to order. They have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Their prices are right - you get a great amount of food for the cost. The vibes are vintage, fun and chill. The staff was extremely friendly and let us bring our 10 week old pup inside. They loved seeing her! As far as food goes, it was phenomenal. All their sandwiches can be customized and they offer build your own as well. read more

Gere-a-Deli is one of my new favorite spots in Washington. I discovered it late last year, and have been back several times since. The staff is really friendly, the food appears to be all homemade, and everything I've tried has been delicious! I usually mix it up, sometimes ordering one of their incredible homemade soups, sometimes ordering the sandwich special, and sometimes a salad. I discovered on my recent stop that they not only make lovely homemade desserts (try the Panda Bear, thank me later) but they also sell their soup by the jar to take home, and on weekends they have a take-and-bake lasagna that is really, really good. Stop in and enjoy! read more

One of our go-to favorite places when we visit Anacortes. The food is all delicious. We've tried the quiche, several of of hot and cold sandwiches, the brownies (my favorite in the entire world), cookies and clam chowder. The prices have remained very reasonable. $9 for a quart of clam chowder! $13 for a 12" supremo sandwich that took me 3 meals to finish! Great vibe and friendly, hard working staff. read more

After an unfortunate mishap of arriving 3 hours too early for a ferry out of Anacortes, I decided to try the ever popular Gere-a-deli to get a bite and do work. Gere-a-deli is set up for walk up ordering, which makes it easy for their local patrons popping in for a coffee, but a little trickier for the large groups coming in. Their menu is a plethora of sandwiches with any kind of meat you could think of, all piled high on their homemade bread. While these looked amazing, I was craving some breakfast, so I got their breakfast sandwich on a house made everything bagel, latte and a cup of the clam chowder. The breakfast sandwich was the perfect size with bacon and ham layered on thick. The bagel itself had too much fennel in the seasoning which I am not a huge fan of. The coffee was good but the milk was quite flat. The chowder was an absolute home run with huge chunks of clams and the exact amount of potato to soup ratio! This spot is well lit with great seating and even outdoor seating with heaters, great little brunch/lunch spot! read more

This place can make a sandwich. It was wonderful. I got the pastrami, and it was good. Parking can be a problem, only street parking was available. They do get busy, and the line gets long, but it moves quickly. When I am back in the area, I will definitely coming back read more

I don't like sandwiches but I will get a sandwich here. It's really good. Solid tasty as good as home cooking. Sandwiches, quiches, baked goods, all delicious. It's almost always busy. Grab lunch and hop a ferry ride for fun. read more

If you want a quiet chit chat place, go elsewhere-- but if you want the Best Sandwich value in town, rich and tasty soups daily, the delicious Giant Fidalgo cookie & a loud, crowded place to enjoy it, GERE-a-DELI is your place!! Service can be a bit slow, but training staff is ongoing, so give 'em a break. Fab food that won't break the bank. read more

My first visit here was in 1997, and they have always delivered a delicious and memorable meal ever since. Their soups are outstanding, great sandwiches (try their Ruben!!) and good salads. These days with restaurant prices going crazy, they still deliver a good value. There are nice gluten-free options here so there is something for everyone. On the not gluten-free side, their desserts, brownies and cakes are AmAzing read more

Trendoid but not a lot of content. It's basically all sandwiches but nothing really special with a play on the name of a chocolate company and not really a true deli like you'd find in New York. Crowded at opening, but I'd pick the diner across the street instead. read more

Insanely good sandwiches!!! We ordered ahead online so we could take them with us to eat in line for the ferry which was perfect. The blt was really hearty with lots of bacon. The east coast pastrami was so good and they packaged the coleslaw separately to add later. They include chips with every order and the prices are super reasonable for the area. Excellent Deli right on Main St... They obviously take a lot of pride in their work... Sandwiches are nice sized and tasty with plenty of bread options... All the baked goods are baked in house... I really like this place. I'm working Anacortes Art Festival for 3 days and came here 2days now. I'm coming to get some breakfast and lunch tomorrow again. I like their scones but sold out this morning.....so I ordered a big cookie this time. Cookie was a good! I ordered breakfast menus sandwiches, big scone and drinks. Dinner for white fish with mashed potatoes and beans and big salad and veggies lasagna. All foods were so good and made me happy. Good atmosphere and retro 50's displays. Service guy was a nice and gave me good suggestion when I asked some question. It's a very comfortable place to eat or take to go~ I enjoyed here. read more

There was a bit of a wait - and I understand why. our Mozza was superb - we added Turkey to make more of a full meal out of the sandwich and they split the sandwich for us - wrapping it into separate sandwiches with sides as well. This worked great as we were headed out of town on bike toward Oak harbor and had quite.a ride ahead of us. Very nice people and excellent food, just be prepared to wait a bit for it - this is not McDonalds. read more

Oh my! This was hands down the best place to stop in for a quick, filling affordable lunch. Everyone was SO happy with their order which is a hard fill when eating with the family. A fun, airy place with great friendly service, a huge selection of sandwiches and other lunch fare such as individual quiches and salads. We had a BLT, an Italian sub, a quinoa salad, and a quiche Lorraine, and they were all deemed excellent by our party. The desserts looked good but we passed since we had dessert at home. I particularly loved the old-style decor touches, a fantastic old neon sign inside. read more

I didn't go into this restaurant but I got to try the sandwiches here. They ARE SOO FREAKING GOOD. I sent my husband to pick up some sandwiches here. The sandwiches he picked were so top notch and delicious. They were affordable too. I think out of the three sandwiches, they were all so memorable and mouthwateringly delicious. They even accommodated to our family's food allergies. Great restaurant. I wish we had a sandwich store similar to this one near our home. read more

SOLID sandwich place. We stopped in to pick up sandwiches while driving through Anacordes. WOW! Just incredible! If we were not in a global pandemic, I would have loved to sit inside and eat. The decor was adorable--I snapped pictures of the vintage signs decorating the walls and sent them to my antique-loving parents. I was happy to see a dedicated (albeit, small) vegetarian menu, as I don't do meat. I ordered the fresh mozzarella sandwich with coleslaw. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. The coleslaw, in particular was absolutely delicious. I cannot recall what my partner got, but it was something with a lot of meat. For some reason, he ordered a 12" sandwich, and that thing was MASSIVE. He loved it. read more

amazing sandwiches, friendly helpful customer service. took 1 point off because they only have those nasty paper straws that disintegrate and have been found to not only be worse for the environment than plastic straws, but are also harmful to your health (the coating is poison). read more

YUMMMMY If I had more time I would have went multiple times but I was just in Anacortes for their annual Shipwreck Festival and someone on Tripadvisor recommended eating here. Good thing I didn't have to hunt to find this place as it was in the heart of the festivities on Commercial Avenue. It was jammed-packed due to the festival (understandable) and there was a line for the toilet (understandable) and hardly anywhere to sit (understandable) and one of THE most popular places to eat (totally understandable). Clam chowder was scoop-it-yourself (no refills) and your server brought you the plate of the side biscuit and salad; a great deal for about 5 clams. We had to share a table but luckily the other eaters ignored us. I got to see their lovely cheesecake and it made me want some but I passed as the thing looked like it weighed 2 pounds and would take 3 days to eat. read more

Absolutely amazing…read more I wanted to find somewhere to buy a bottle of wine for friends we were going to have dinner with later that day: he's a chef and the former part-owner of a series of very popular restaurants in Seattle (owned by his family)... so no ordinary wine was going to do. We spied Compass Wines by accident driving from Anacortes toward I-5 Southbound, and took a chance that they might have a good selection of wines with which to choose from. Indeed they do. The individual who helped me not only recommended an exceptional wine -- a 2016 vintage of a Cabernet Sauvignon -- but one that impressed my friend... who is not easily impressed. Not at all. What's more, they were featuring Scotch -- and while my partner and I seldom drink, we occasionally have a bit of scotch every once in a while (we still have a few bottles purchased ten years ago... almost all of them have only had 4-5 ounces consumed). My partner and I are very partial to Macallan, but the Gordon & Macphail won out. Single malts rock! It's been my experience that those wine stores that have great selections cater to regular customers who know a great deal about wine -- but they tend, more often than not, to be a bit snobbish and look down upon those of us whose knowledge of wine wasn't genetically-encoded in our DNA. Not these people: the proprietors were very forgiving and helpful, and they know their wines! (And Scotch!) The individual helping me took all the time I needed to gather information about which Cabernet to buy, and it certainly paid off for me! That kind of service should be a standard for other companies to emulate. What impressed me more was their selection of Leonetti Cellar wines: I've known Gary Figgens, the owner of Leonetti Cellar, for over 40 years -- and have a number of their wines in my cellar. I'd give Compass Wines a sixth star if possible... just on the merit of featuring Leonetti Cellar wines, one of six favorite vintners. I do know enough about domestic wines to understand that this store has a superlative selection -- and I'd love to come back and talk about foreign wineries and wines. I know a good deal about Australian, New Zealand, German and Austrian wines.., but I'd like to come back just to see what I might learn. A friend of mine, working in London for a prestigious law firm, thought he might purchase a derby to wear. He spent three and one-half very enjoyable hours in conversation and being fitted for a derby, and felt so impressed by the impassioned storekeeper that he write him a letter thanking him for a memorable day. While I intended to pop into the store and quickly buy a bottle of wine, I spent 83 minutes in conversation about Cabernet Sauvignon, Scotch, and Scotland. There are many wine stores in Washington -- and the U.S. -- but very few of them are of the quality of Compass Wines in terms of selection, knowledge, and customer service. Try them!

Gere-A-Deli is where the locals go because they know where the good food is! I've had them cater my son's wedding reception, my daughters wedding, and all of our company christmas parties. I know I can count on them to consistantly deliver a delicious and attractive meal. We go there often for lunch and have always had great service and wonderful food. read more
