The chicken is dry/not very flavorful, and the size of the chunks make it hard to eat an even ratio of chicken to veggie in every bite. Those who don't love mayo (me), beware: there's a lot of it on this sandwich. The rest of the veggies are lovely. Clam chowder: 3/5. The amount of clams included is very generous, but the soup is much thinner and less flavorful than I'd like it to be. Green giant sandwich: 5/5. Yum! The avocado portion is generous, and the vegetables are hearty. I love the addition of sprouts. Blueberry scone: 4/5. Very inexpensive and not too sweet. Service and atmosphere: 5/5. Nice, open space with high ceilings, with plenty of seating, more inside than outside. Great offerings of freshly baked goods and lots of sandwich options. Unlucky for us, we ordered sandwiches that were layered thick with mayo type spreads which was too heavy and unnecessary. Had we gotten them on the side we would've enjoyed our meal more. This place is amazing! Situated in a historic building, the atmosphere of this deli keeps patrons looking at all the antique signage and decore. The menu is extensive with large portions. People were lined up to the door. There are so many items I want to try on my next visit such as their quiche or salads. Service was quick and the food was excellent. We loved the Cole slaw. I've searched far and wide for a deli in WA and when I walked in I immediately knew I found what I've been looking for. Delicious deli and a variety of options. The scent of bread, soup and deli meats fills the air right when you walk in. Lots of seating with old school decor that gives you that homey feel. Long line when we walked in but it moved quick. Friendly staff with prompt service. I customized my sandwich and my partner ordered liverwurst and a meatball sandwich. We also ordered a cookie that was bigger than my hand! We were famished after a 4.5 hour whale watching tour and had planned on grabbing a meal a couple doors down. Oh my freaking god. After wandering up and down the road deciding where to eat, my wife and I chose here. We are so glad we did! The interior is old in a charming way. It is not made to look old and vintage, it just is. Not forced. I had "Some like it hot" which is a ham pastrami sandwich with provolone. That in and of itself was one of the best sandwiches I have ever eaten but then they served it with a side of hot mustard that looked homemade. It was more like a chunky paste. The sandwich was good, but I was expecting more meat in the sandwich. The soup was good, but not super flavorful. Based on other Yelp reviews, I should have tried the cobbler for dessert. However, I just wasn't in the mood for dessert after lunch. The decor is retro and comfy casual. Definitely a nice place to relax a bit. We try to hit Gere-a-Deli whenever we are in Anacortes. On sunny days there is usually a line out the door, which sends us to go find another place to have lunch. This time we picked a cloudy day and the line was almost to the door, but not outside. We had to be fast to get a table when someone got up and left, I raced a woman to a booth but she beat me to it, we were so happy when a window seat opened up right after that! We split a Tuna Melt and a Caesar Salad. The salad was delicious, and it came with a yummy roll. The sandwich was a little light on the tuna, in fact some of the sandwich didn't have any tuna at all, and the sourdough bread wasn't the best I've had. Next time I will get my sandwich cold, I much preferred my sandwich the last time I dined at Gere-a-Deli. Our lunches came out really fast considering how busy they were, and I saved my bag of Tim's Cascade chips for the drive home, I love those chips. I will return to try some other items on the menu, but probably not during the lunch rush, I'd rather not race other people the get a table. read more

Ordered a Reuben sandwich and tomato soup to go. I only ordered the 1/2 sandwich was fine as the portions are very generous and the sandwich included a bag of chips and a helping of potato salad. I had read that it can be very busy so I purchased my sandwich around 11:00 AM. They said it would take 15 minutes but it was quicker than that. This is a limited review only. Every year, I drive 1.5 hours to Anacortes for their Anacortes Arts Festival. Every year, I stop at the Gere-a-Deli for their blueberry cobbler with ice cream. Yum, yum!! A huge stack of trays waiting to be served seemingly nonstop to the festival-goers (like me). Scooped from a big tray with plenty of berries visible, it is best to eat it with the vanilla ice cream on top! There is seating, bar style, at the outside of the restaurant so you can sit while you enjoy the treat. The inside is always busy.
