Side salad, potato bacon chowder in bread bowl
    Colleen J.

Service was friendly and attentive without bring too much. Fried Pickles were crunchy and seasoned perfectly. Patty Melt was toasted well, cooked to order on point, dressing on it tangy. The fries could have been a little crisper but they were hot and yummy. Potato Bacon Chowder in a bread bowl, nice chunky pieces of potato, creamy base with great bacon flavor. The bread bowl was soft and tasty. Side salad was nothing to write home about, iceberg lettuce, tomatoes and cheese. The ranch dressing was amazing though. I was a little surprised by the paper/Styrofoam plates and plastic utensils but ‍

The McGertie- turkey, bacon, lettuce, cheddar cheese, and parmesan peppercorn with cheese soup filled bread bowls and pickle.

Service - good Food - consistently good for years Ambiance - its a sports bar Been here since 2005 or before. Went on April 4, 2025 after a long hiatus. Lunch special, 1/2 sammich with soup in a bread bowls, and a side. Got the 1/2 mc gertie sammich... The McGertie - Smoked turkey, bacon, lettuce, cheddar cheese, and parmesan peppercorn. With an Open volcano 3" tall bread bowl serving of cheese soup - excellent pairing! Filling, great combination for lunch, did i say filling! Side o pickle is a full pickle, crunchy, sliced in half, lengthwise. Think Claussem, not Vlassic....

Solid sports bar with nice staff and lots of TVs. Nothing super fancy about the ambiance of Gert's, but they have a large menu of mostly sandwiches that'll get the job done. My grandma absolutely loves this place. She's not known for having the most adventurous palate, but my gosh does she love her cream cheese. Must be genetic. She always orders the TAC (turkey, avocado, and cream cheese) with extra cream cheese so we split that sandwich with the California Kid (literally the exact same sandwich, but on a croissant). Tough to screw up a sandwich with those ingredients. We both enjoyed a lovely lunch, but the food was just a notch above average for me.

I went here for lunch today and received excellent service. The place is very close to my work, but this was only my second time coming. I had a very hearty lunch for the reasonable price of $20 after tip. I got a half sandwich (The Garden + Turkey - Sprouts), a cup of chili, and a bag of bbq chips. It was a good amount of food. This is a great place to hang out and there were plenty of screens to watch games if that is what you were interested in.

Even the best bar food is rarely ever great, and seldom even good - but hopefully it's not terrible either. Gert's food lies somewhere in this grey area. The cheese soup tasted like a cross between cheese soup and queso. The fried chicken salad was made with frozen chicken tenders like you would get in the grocery store, shredded lettuce that was probably intended for their hamburgers, and I think shredded American cheese rather than the cheddar I was hoping for. The pasta salad was 98% pasta and probably 2% salad. Everything was "OK", but definitely not great, and nothing you would ever crave when you're hungry. On top of the food, the TVs that line the walls are very inconsistent - some looked sharp and others looked old and faded, including the dimly lit large projection screen in the main viewing spot. On the bright side, our server Heather was a ball of fire, literally a blur as she moved from table to table, deftly addressing the needs of all her customers. She's one of the best servers we're had in recent memory. Heather is the reason my score is a 3 rather than a 2. I don't drink so I can't speak for the bar, for all I know if may be quite good. Considering they had a decent crowd on hand I'm guessing the drinks are the main attraction. But if you want to know what bar food tastes like, Gert's would make a good measuring stick for you.

This is our server that had the attitude.

The food here is pretty good, it's bar food for sure but it's decent. Our schedule has been weird so it's been about a month since we were here last but, we do tend to go here a lot, especially on the weekends. This last visit however, we went to lunch on Wednesday. I attempted to order from the back of the menu. Not only did I forget but, I overlooked the fact they don't serve the items on the back of the menu until after 2pm Monday through Friday. Apparently this upset our servicer. She was short and snippy. So I took a few more minutes to order. When she came back my husband ordered French fries which again are part of the items not offered after 2pm. Again she was snippy when showing my husband the item that were available with his sandwich. The food was delivered by a different server which isn't a big deal. The problem was is that our server didn't check back with us for over 10 minutes, and my sandwich needed mustard. Had they been busy or she At least appeared to be trying I would have understood. The fact of the matter is she visited with staff add bussed tables instead. Yes table do need to be bussed, but there were a lot of empty tables. She barely looked our direction so flagging her down wasn't an option. I did stare at her for those 10 minutes but, apparently we were invisible. She finally came to the table when I put my nearly empty cup at the end of the table so I could get a refill. We do like the food here, but like won't be back for a little while. It's too soon for me to end up getting her as my server again. Despite her behavior, we did tip her. Granted it was only 10% vs the 20% we typically leave. It was clear she didn't care about tips.

My husband and I went to Gertz Grill for the first time upon recommendations from plenty of people that we didn't even really know. We got the club on Texas toast and the Smoke Stack on rye and both were PHENOMENAL. We were sad we didn't order the soup and the owner brought us out some potato soup to have and try and it was AMAZING. Service 10/10 food 10/10

Gert's Is Our Lunch Time Treat For Our Work "Lunch Committee"! We've Been Here Twice And Both Times We Weren't Greeted But Decided To Seat Ourselves. Once We Were Seated The Waitress Did Come Over And She Was Very Kind And Helpful. Gert's Menu Consists Of An Array Of Sandwiches And A Few Soup Options That Come In A Bread Bowl. You Can Grab A Large Portion Of A Half Sandwich Combo With Soup And A Side For $12.29 Which Is Why Our Lunch Committee Enjoys This Place! I Ordered The TAC, Regular Potato Chips And The Southwest Enchilada Soup And It Was Perfect! The TAC Was Hot And Toasty And The Soup Was Creamy, Cheesy And Well Seasoned! There Is Enough Food If To Take To Go If You Wanted To. I Like The Relaxed Vibe Of Gert's And Feel Comfortable Going Again. The Place Seems Like It Can Be Fun During Game Days Especially Since The Drinks Are A Reasonable Price. Thank You Gert's!

My friend recommended this place to me so I went with him and some other buddies to determine if I could still be friends w him based on his recommendation. It was a fri night so we did expect it to be busy and it was fairly crowded. We were still able to find plenty of seating. I believe the crowd are made up of locals because the waitress who was working spoke to most of them as if she knew them. However she also looked very tired because she was the only one on the floor working. The food all came out fresh and hot and tasted great. it had good flavor but not overly salty either as some bar/grills can be. I was definitely in the mood for a sandwich and soup bread bowl so it worked out great. Its like going to Panera but being able to order beer with additional bar food options. Overall it provided a good atmosphere to get some bar food AND deli food and I will definitely be back

Gert's had the feel of a neighborhood sports bar with plenty of loyal customers known by the wait staff. I enjoyed a pretty good sandwich and fast service during my dine-in lunch. My "angel" sandwich on choice of bread and with choice of side ($9.29) was served just four minutes after I ordered at the table. The sandwich was nicely sized and stood 2-1/4" tall. I enjoyed the generous portion of premium, tasty, white turkey meat slices (no low rent deli slices) - mmm! The wheat bread was sliced thicker than normal and toasted - nice. I liked the thick slice of cheese, and the fresh tomatoes, but the menu called for sprouts on the sandwich and I received shredded lettuce. I'm not usually a macaroni salad fan because it can be rather bland, but this salad was pretty darn tasty. Of course, there were plenty of TVs (I counted 13 including the big screen), a large, horseshoe shaped bar, a game area, and background sound coming from the TVs, which were tuned to a sports channel. They offer a pretty good happy hour M-F 3-6 PM. I also noticed a small patio out front. I wish the lunch prices were lower, but overall, pretty good.

Some of the people in our group thought some of their dishes were a little bland, but I liked everything I tried. We had the okra and fried pickles for appetizers. The pickles have a very crunchy breading and a dip that was delicious! The okra is very good - especially with the dip for the pickles. We also tried the biscuits with butter and peach compote. They were great! Unique, fluffy, flavorful, and definitely worth a side order. I ordered the chicken and waffles with the peach. It was a good dish. The chicken tenders had a little bit of a spice that I didn't totally love, but they were still good. I also tried my friend's shrimp and grits, and they were delicious. The person next to me got meatloaf and brussels sprouts sprouts and really enjoyed it! He was practically licking the plate! Everyone seemed to enjoy their drinks as well. The only one I tried was the espresso martini, and it was very tasty! I would definitely go back to Tupelo Honey the next time I'm in Lenexa.

Waitress took our order and food came out pretty quick. Mozzarella sticks were standard, nothing too special or remarkable. Now the pizza slice, I tried the KC Hunna BBQ which is their bbq Hawaiian pizza and let me tell you, it was huge! I saved room so I was able to eat the whole slice but don't be afraid to have leftovers. It's a thin crust because it's NY style but it doesn't come out burnt, just a little crisp. So much flavor and plenty of meat, I also choose no jalapeños since I'm not a fan. I also tried a tater tot and those are well seasoned so I'd also expect their fries to be seasoned as well. The only issue I had was it being quite warm, but for an open kitchen and the heat index being 115, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. I will definitely be back to try more pizza, and I'll make good use of their big parking lot and bring some friends!

They absolutely have the processes of this little restaurant honed to perfection, and even during a busy lunch time kept things humming so that there was minimal wait time (to order, for the food to be brought out, and to pay for our meal). Many, MANY thanks to Robert, who seated us, took our order, brought our food out, and settled our bill. He was friendly, efficient, and so welcoming. It was a joy to watch him work; he made sure to greet each and every customer coming in the door, and was consistently so upbeat and positive. And many, MANY thanks to Tony at the grill! Our food was FANTASTIC!! I have high standards for Mediterranean food, and the falafel wrap was totally delicious! The falafel itself was perfectly cooked, with a crispy outer layer, and the other ingredients in the wrap were chosen for a perfect melding of flavors. I had the side salad, with homemade Thai peanut dressing, and it was equally tasty. My husband had the patty melt, which came on homemade bread (!) and was, per his report, perfectly done. His side was tater tots, and we shared them. They were crisp and light without being greasy, and addictively yummy! The restaurant is in a strip center; it's not very big, but the tables are well placed so that no one feels cramped. The open reception area and kitchen/grill make it easy for the staff to respond to what's happening in the dining room (e.g., new folks arriving). It was a truly memorable meal, and we'll definitely be back! Again, MANY thanks to Robert and Tony for such a great lunch. We appreciate you!

You can get a burger with a regular side (like fries) for around $10. And it's a nice size burger and generous side. They are also really good at allowing customization. Many have no extra charge but you can add ingredients (like bacon to a burger that doesn't already have it) for a reasonable upcharge. That's really awesome! We get our burgers to go a lot. I do recommend you check your to go order. It's why I put 4 stars. Unfortunately, I think because they are busy, they forget ingredients and sides a lot. That's the only frustrating thing. You can get back home and realize all the toppings for your burger are missing. Just check your order before you leave. They are very nice about fixing it quickly. Unfortunately, the service side fell flat. We arrived mid-afternoon around 1:30-2:00, and the restaurant wasn't busy. We asked if we could sit upstairs, and the host seemed confused before telling us it was closed, then seated us directly next to a loud group despite plenty of quieter open tables nearby. A few minutes later, we looked upstairs ourselves and saw multiple occupied tables being actively served...what the heck? The most frustrating part of this experience wasn't the seating, it was the complete indifference from the staff. Drinks didn't arrive until after we had already finished eating, and despite the restaurant being relatively slow, nobody seemed remotely concerned. No urgency or communication. Just a normal day for them, I guess. A kitchen can only carry a restaurant so far when the front-of-house operates with this little care for hospitality. The atmosphere gives the impression of a place that wants to feel polished and upscale, but the service felt lazy and disconnected from the guest experience. Mistakes happen in restaurants. What matters is whether the staff notices and cares enough to fix them. We left wondering how a restaurant with food this solid has become comfortable delivering service this poor.
