The beers were okay. The food on the other hand....it could have been so much better. I appreciate the fact the whole menu is gluten free. We ordered two burgers, and I've had gluten free buns before, but these potato buns were not fully baked resulting it being mushy. I thought the mushroom burger was also going to have more mushroom or a big portobello mushroom as the patty. This is a 100% dedicated gluten free brewery. They offer FANTASTIC gluten free brews on tap, and offer delicious eats. I always get the fish and chips here, because as someone who NEVER gets to eat fried food, I indulge a bit. I can tell you the pieces of fish are gigantic and fresh. Everytime I make the trek across the Puget Sound, I make sure to leave time to eat here. The best part about the beer? It is all gluten-free! They have plenty of varieties for you to choose from and you dont have to drink out of a can. WINNING!! My boyfriend isn't gluten intolerant, but he also loves the food and admits the beer is just as good (if not better) than some he has had at other local breweries. I went to Ghostfish last weekend after not having been in for a few years. I used to come here with my gym crew when Northwest Strength and Performance occupied the building next door... and the food is still as good as ever! It's hard to believe that everything is gluten free! I had the spicy crispy chicken sandwich with my favorite beer- the black pepper saison. Not a lot of breweries are gluten free all the way, so I was behind excited to find this brewery!! I had a flight of all IPA's, and loved them all. Their Fresh Hops IPA is hands down my favorite beer I have ever tried. It was our first stop in town and I'm already looking forward to coming back. They are pet friendly (we saw a bird in a cage and a few dogs!), and it's great atmosphere to relax. The bartender did a great job with suggestions and was very attentive. I really wanted to *love*this gluten-free allergy-friendly restaurant. I haven't had beer in years and finding safe restaurants with lots of menu choices is like finding a unicorn. I happily spent $30 on Ubers for the experience. However, it just wasn't a good experience. The service is awkward if you don't know the "drill". My son and I arrived not knowing you seat yourself so waited for a while at the front. 4 staff members saw us but I eventually asked and was told to sit. The ordering is all done by QR code at your table. We didn't realize that if you order it all at once, it'll all come out at once (appetizers too). No one is going to check to ask if it is good or if you need anything after. If you want room temp water, you can pump it out of a barrel yourself (literally pumping every stroke into your cup). Maybe a misinterpretation, but I felt like the person who showed me how to use it was annoyed about it. The beers are decent. I wouldn't normally have chosen them but I was grateful to be able yo drink them and experience tasting beer again. I had a flight and enjoyed most of them. Definitely worth trying if this is what you want most. The food... I would've skipped that. My son and I both had the Mac and cheese. I was excited bc I hadn't had pasta in a restaurant for a long time. The pasta itself is good, taste/feels like real pasta. The cheese sauce had no real flavor and it's pink (turnoff for my son). It's the first time he's ever given a thumbs down for Mac and cheese before and I had to agree. The pulled pork I added had no real flavor either. I also ordered pretzel bites and they were over cooked and like shoe leather. It was physically difficult to eat them. Ghostfish, what a great dining experience we had on March 17, 2023. We picked this gluten-free restaurant because of my being gluten intolerant. Robert greeted us and asked if we had been there before. We said that we had not, but from Yelp we knew how to order. He showed us where the water was and led us to a table. We read the QR code with our phones and ordered: A flight of beers A cider White fish and chips Onion rings We are not beer fans, but we could not pass up the chance to see what this brewery creates. We really liked the Vanishing Point Pale Ale. (FYI: They have cans to purchase and take out as well.) The fish and chips were magnificent! The delicate, succulent white fish surrounded by the crunchy batter was a dish I wish I could get in my hometown. My hubby had the French fries, but I substituted my fries with kale salad for a small up charge. The kale salad was delicious. I only chose it because it is healthier than fries, but I was surprised how great it tasted. I will make some at home because the salad was so inspiring! The fish and chips also came with homemade tartar sauce which I truly enjoyed! It did not seem to have a lot of dill or vinegar in it. The slaw was very tasty as well: no sickening sweet sugar in it like KFC, and it did not seem to have a vinegary taste. My hubby eats neither tartar sauce, nor slaw, but he ate the slaw and gave it 2 thumbs up! Re: onion rings. They were big and perfectly cooked. (I make great onion rings at home, so I am rarely impressed by others' recipes.) Before our arrival at the restaurant we noted some complaints on Yelp regarding the batter composition and the greasiness of the batter on the onion rings. The batter tasted great to us, and we adored the crunchiness. (I love crunchy, hubs does not. However, he declared the crunchy batter a winner!) There were a couple rings that were a little greasy, but that is what napkins are for! The onion rings come with a sauce, but we preferred the ketchup on the table. Not only Robert, but a waitress checked in with us a couple of times to make sure we were in good order. I asked about purchasing some of their clothing and was told that if my size was not found, then to let her know because they had all sizes in the back. I settled on a very soft sweatshirt that I wore daily while vacationing here. We are not locals, and we wanted to eat in our AirBnB that night, so before the Uber came to pick us up, we ordered food to add to our lunch leftovers for our dinner: Pork belly pieces, a can of Vanishing Point beer, churros, and a red velvet brownie with an Oreo bottom layer. All were amazing, particularly the churros: I have not had a churro in 26 years. I was in culinary heaven! We had a delightful experience and scrumptious food at Ghostfish. The staff explained that we could seat ourselves, the location of the self serve water station and bathroom, and how to order using the QR code. When he had finished eating, she was walking by and I let her know my food still had not arrived to which she quickly replied "yeah it's coming" in an annoyed tone while walking away from me and making some waving gesture as if I was being a pain. I came by this place with a friend who has celiac and visited this restaurant multiple times during their visit in Seattle. I didn't try any of the beers here, so I can't comment on them. The food was pretty typical selection for bar food, but it's impressive that they're all gluten-free, especially the pastas and sandwiches, which explains their slightly higher than typical prices. Unfortunately, the tacos I ordered weren't available so someone came to our table to change the order, which made my meal come later than everyone else's. Ghostfish has been on my list to go for a few years now, having tried a few of their beers that made it to locations in Nor Cal. It just took a little longer than expected to make it, once I moved up here... so many breweries in between eastside Seattle and SoDo district. Lol oh, those distractions! I figured Ghostfish would be a great place to start celebrating Seattle beer week, and it definitely was! Parking on the street was fairly easy, Ghostfish has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating choices, choosing to sit at the bar, a good place to see the action and talk beers with the servers. Service was on task, quickly answering questions and filling orders on a fairly busy Friday early afternoon. Plenty of both beer and food choices, I started with one of their in house only selections, Secret Handshake Unfiltered rice lager, so good and refreshing! Modeled after the Japanese rice beers, light and flavorful. After looking over the many delicious looking choices on the food menu, I chose the Ghostfish burger with goat cheese, which I had never even thought of putting on a burger.. what was I thinking? A good well made burger, patty thick enough, not over cooked and juicy, but the addition of the goat cheese really added to the taste, similar to adding blue cheese, but even a bit more twang to it, definitely on my list to add to burgers now. Orders were quickly out, the fries were tasty as well, crisp and just the right amount. All went well with the Secret Handshake. Next up was a half pour of the Gosefish Hibiscus Cranberry gose, a very flavorful gose! Just right amount of tartness, perfect for a sunny summer like day, this is one that is available in cans to go. Seasonal I believe? From the bar you can see into where the magic is made, as well as through the big windows to the street. To finish off my first, but not last visit, I tried their farmhouse ale, which was herbaceously tasty, very reminiscent of the farmhouse ales at Fieldwork in Berkeley. One of Ghostfish's unique points is they are gluten free beers, which you would never know from the great taste! I come for the food but stay for the beer. I have heard that their menu is going to be updated regularly. Hoping they keep the fish and chips and onion rings and maybe have some fried chicken or chicken and waffles for brunch. Get rid of the tacos, you can get tacos anywhere, they're always gluten-free.
