I've been to Gianna's twice, once for lunch and once for dinner, and have to split my review numbers down the middle. Lunch garners five stars and dinner gets one. I went to lunch and my coworker and I ordered lasagna on her recommendation. Their lasagna was the best I've ever eaten, hands down. It was so good I ordered another to take home to my wife and she loved it too. Service was courteous and prompt. Fast forward several months to dinner last night: my wife and I ordered a lasagna to split, since we don't eat a huge amount. The lasagna was just as good, but we were dismayed to discover the twice as expensive dinner portion is barely larger than the lunch size. We should have ordered the lunch size and saved $6. We also ordered a tiny slice of $8 turtle cheesecake and found out too late that it had an apricot sauce on it, which made it taste terrible. The server didn't mention it the pie had this bizarre sauce on it and not the traditional caramel. If she had, we would not have ordered it. Who puts fruit sauce on a chocolate cheesecake? And the service was godawful slow. Each trip to our table took an age and the restaurant was not terribly busy. She looked at our table but made drinks for other tables, avoiding ours at times. We wondered if it was because our tab was cheap compared to the larger wine drinking tables. We will probably come back for lunch but will definitely avoid dinner. read more

Came in tonight for Valentine's Day. They had a Valentine's Day menu which I am assuming were their picks from their dinner menu. I ordered the fried ravioli for an appetizer which was really good. The garlic bread served as an appetizer as well was very good. The entree I ordered was so disappointing. I ordered the chicken Parmesan and it was so bland. They gave you literally like 15 penne noodles. The issue I had was everything was drowning in marinara sauce. And it was watery marinara too. It seemed as though the sauce was covering up the fact that the chicken was blah and bland. Such a let down. read more

We were recently out in Tomball and looking for something comfortable for dinner, and we weren't in the mood for Goodson's. A quick scan through Yelp brought us to Gianna Italian Kitchen. What a great neighborhood place. Warm, inviting environment, even though it's nestled in a strip center. Very friendly staff. The kind of place where you're a regular on your second visit. And there's excellent Italian food - nothing trendy, but the type of Italian-American cuisine that comes to mind when most folks think of Italian. A superb Caesar salad, with a spicy dressing made with actual anchovies. Delicious pastas, and a deft hand on the grill with meats. Something we love: Many of the dishes are available in either a full or an appetizer portion. This lets kids (or those who aren't too hungry) dig deeper in the menu while not being stuck with a huge portion they won't finish. More restaurants should consider doing this. Gianna is exactly the type of Italian restaurant we'd love to have in the Woodlands. But we'll be driving to Tomball regularly to enjoy it. read more

This place is definitely over rated. First time going there with our three year old, we went after work in jeans for our Friday night dinner ritual. From the minute we stepped in to wait for a table (waited 35 minutes mind you...) we were given dirty looks from all the OLD PEOPLE who come eat here. The staff was only nice and attentive to the regular (OLD) folks. I was excited to try something new in town. The food was okay. The tables were very close together and barely any room to sit! Ambiance was VERY loud. IF Gianna's wants to stay in business I highly suggest getting a bigger locale, catering to customers of ALL AGES and not turning their nose on clientele with children. We love Gianna's Italian Kitchen. My husband and I sought out this place after searching for Italian in our general area of town. We drove there from Cypress, so it was about 25 minutes away, but we wanted to try something new. We are so happy that we gave this place a shot. We have visited a handful of times since that first visit about two years ago. The restaurant is located in the corner of a strip center, and is nothing to look at from the outside. The inside is more inviting, with wooden floors and a cozy bar area. There is also a more private room near the back of the restaurant which is great for larger parties. We have always felt welcomed and the service has always been good. Now on to the food, it is good. Very good. Not the best Italian you can find in the city, but it beats the competition hands down when you are comparing it to restaurants in this price range. So, for what you pay, you will get an exceptional meal. I love the Carbnara, although you have to love genuine prosciutto if you want this dish. No bacon here as many places try to pass off. Love it!!! Also, the homemade "Cream of Asparagus Soup" is amazing. Creamy and rich with just a few tender pieces of asparagus, and just a touch of salt and pepper. So good. I was very wary when my husband ordered it, but then I couldn't quit sneaking bites from his bowl. A must try. Also, any baked pasta dish has been a winner with us as well. So, for about the price of a meal at Olive Garden you will receive far better food and service in a setting that is its own. Nothing chain or commercial about this place. For Italian in the Tomball area, this is the place to go! They've got an extensive menu with hot and cold appetizers, baked dishes, pastas, and meat and fish dishes. They also have a pretty good wine list. The calamari appetizer is wonderful--so many places overcook the calamari, but Gianna's is flavorful and tender. If you want something simple, the spaghetti with meatballs is great! There's a chicken combo with marsala sauce that is out of this world. We've never had anything there that wasn't mouth-watering good. read more

Who doesn't like garlic bread? Seriously. I ended up getting chicken Alfredo. It was good Alfredo, could have used a little more sauce, got a little dry near the end. This is rich, mouth watering Italian cuisine. They are a little slow getting the food, so make sure you have plenty of time if you're going for lunch, but the wait is well worth it. Nothing rushed for a reason here. You have wonderful bread to snack on while you wait. This is one of the few Italian places I have been to that did NOT require any salt or pepper, the food comes perfectly seasoned. My wife and I shared some Fettuccine Alfredo, and their Manicotti. We were craving a classic spaghetti and meatballs and came across Gianna's in Tomball. It's tucked away in a small plaza off 249 business. We ordered the appetizer size spaghetti and meatball, Gianna salad with creamy vinnagrette, and a dinner size of the lasagna. My my the lasagna is one of the best we have ever had. Really! Fresh ingredients topped with a nice layer of cheese. Wow. Topped it off with a healthy dose of the house Chianti and voila! Great meal, priced right. We were even treated to live music which was well done and set the mood in the restaurant. Service was nothing short of awesome and they even kept the garlic bread coming. Can't wait to be back. This place is nestled within a strip mall with businesses next door, but the restaurant is actually pretty deep and can accompany large parties, with a private room in the back. The menu is very expansive, with many choices on your old Italian favorites. Desserts are also tasty. They also have a third thursdays events which hosts mixers for the local business community. I saw people there for drinks after works and families enjoying a nice dinner. Just remember it is 249 Business North, not the 'regular' 249 when you are coming from the city. read more

I was highly disappointed with the meal, especially since this place has so many stars on average. Since it was down the street from my hotel, I decided to give it a try. I would've been better off getting takeout elsewhere. Fried calamari - This was very dry and somewhat salty. This was definitely nothing like the freshly fried calamari I've had in Boston. This batter was very heavy and starchy, not light and crunchy. I only ate half. French onion soup - The soup itself was not bad, but I was only given a small piece of bread (half the size of my palm) and a few bits of shredded cheese. The cheese melted onto the lid of the soup. It's a far cry from John and Molly's in NJ where you get a WHOLE slab of cheese and bread in your soup. I did finish the soup though, since the other two items were terrible. Chicken Fettucine Alfredo - I don't even know where to begin. The chicken was so white it almost looked raw, but it wasn't. It had been pre-frozen. The pasta was so soupy with alfredo sauce it was as if the sauce came from a jar. There were no herbs or lemon for flavor - just the chicken, pasta, and sauce. I took four bites and that was it. My total was $25.18 after tax and tip, but it was definitely not worth the money! read more

Stopped in for a business luncheon, so didn't know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and price. I ordered the appetizer portion of the lasagna. Gianna is good... After devouring 2 baskets of garlic bread. I love the fact they have appetizer portions for those who can not eat a whole regular portion. We ordered the calamari and it was lightly battered which did not make it feel too heavy. I ordered the appetizer portion of the spaghetti with meat sauce and a meatball... Don't expect any tomatoes in your meat sauce. I don't know what they do to it but it's delicious. The waitress was every tentative. I would definitely recommend this place. And we will be back. Tonight I had the worst service I've ever had at this restaurant. It was horrible from the management down to our waitress. The mgmt does not know how to handle situations! One issue ... of many... we had is one of our meals did not arrive with dinner and come to find out it had not been placed. The waitress did not admit to the problem, nor did the manager address it. We had to request the manager and yet nothing took place! For everything we wanted or needed we had to ask for it! We even requested to see the higher up and he would not come to our table! The family went to tomball specifically to try out Gianna's. We had a great time. It was nice to be offered a smaller portion of food if desired for most entrees. The alfredo sauce was rich and creamy, the chicken cooked well, though prefer mine grilled. The spices were noticed and well seasoned. I enjoyed the spinach and bacon salad and my wife raved about the asparagus soup. Of course my 3 year old liked both. the neat part is the deserts are made in house. including chocolate mousse in a dark chocolate bowl. Cheesecake was delicous and so was the coffee. It is a great establishment, the staff are great and the food is wonderful. they give you a great family feeling if you frequent it often enough. We stopped after church last Saturday to try this place. We were promptly seated in the far, far back room. Ask to be seated in the main room where the piano player sits. The waitress took our drink orders and we settled in. I tried the escargot. The sauce was great, but I have had better. I tried the asparagus soup with caution. To my surprise it was very good. The garlic bread was great. For my main I had lasagna which I thought had a sweet flavor. Not exactly what I was expecting. My friends and I went to eat at Gianna in October of 2011. We were quite a large group of about 6-7 people. First when we walked in we had spent all day hanging out at the Texas Renaissance Festival so we were tired, but bathed and not dressed in our Sunday best. From the beginning people gave us looks like we shouldn't be in there. Then after seated our waitress took forever getting our orders. After about 20-30 minutes of waiting for our food we started to complain loudly until one of the managers walked by and heard us complaining and then like magic our food came out. Amidst all of this, we never once saw our waitress past ordering. The only person that kept refilling our cups of tea, water and soda and bread was the one bus person there. She was amazing and attentive to our every need. Needless to say next year when we come we will not be eating at Gianna and we hope that our waitress learned a lesson that day when we gave her tip to the person that was really doing a good job. Also, this place is NOT good for kids. They do not have a kids menu and I wound up sharing my mediocre food with my 5 year old. We will not be returning when we come to stay in Tomball in October of 2012. read more

So this really hurts because I know it's a tough business and I hate to potentially hurt someone but I have to do this because you can't call yourself an Italian restaurant and serve food that is subpar and not cooked with pride nor according to proper Italian culinary standards. Either they just don't know or don't care, neither of which is good. For example, the chicken used for the chicken Marsala was several days old, dry and rubbery- when I told our server that it would be nice if they didn't serve re-heated microwaved chicken, she compassionately tilted her head in agreement. This is one of many shortcomings , I can tell you how their recipe ratios should be dramatically adjusted, and which ingredients should be omitted, but the onus is not on me to tell them how to be a better restaurant. However, here's a hint-a good start on how to improve would be to use fresh, quality ingredients, and properly season the food. I will say the service was wonderful, very knowledgeable and attentive but the food was just terrible, and at the end of the day great service is nice but the primary reason for going out to a restaurant is for good food. read more

My family and I had occasion to eat here and we had a great night. The service was quick, accurate and not over baring. I can't stand it when a waiter breaths down my neck (I waited tables and I know there can be pressure to push people into buying things they don't really want). The food was great while the selection is broad - I did have a bit of trouble finding something that didn't contain mushrooms - The wine list was decent and the price was too. 5 diners, dinner, coffee, desert and a bottle of wine was $161 (tip included), that's a good night out to me! Food was cold and did not prepare salmon as requested. Salmon overcooked and dry. Salmon was only 3 inches long. Returned the salmon, this time it was not seared long enough and the center was refrigerator cold. This chef should NOT be cooking salmon. So what did I get with my $23 dollar meal? About a fourth cup of penne pasta with marinara sauce and 3 very skinny asparagus. Had to eat bread bread bread to satisfy my hunger. Most worst restaurant I've ever been to in my whole life. Our table was filthy, the food took too long, and we had found 4 long hairs in our meals. The waiter lied about seeing the hair. This is one of the better small Italian restaurants. I had the linguine in white wine clam sauce. I was amazed at the quantity of clam, I finished my pasta before the clams. My friends dish was the same but instead of clams it was some kind of pork. They have a nice atmosphere. It's not very dark like most Italian and they had some nice decorations and even some live music in the back. I always hate having to spend 15 bucks on a giant plate of pasta that I will never be able to finish and Gianna's has fixed that for me. They offer smaller portions of many of their pasta dishes so if your not that hungry, you wont have to have reheated leftovers the next day. And you can save some cash. Completely disappointed. I read other reviews before going so my expectations were not too high. We were the only couple waiting to be seated, yet it took 30 minutes. Mind you there were numerous open tables. I ordered Alfredo con Pollo with mushrooms. I will say that the Alfredo did taste fresh, had a nice flavor to it, and wasn't too thick. The chicken, however, was inedible. It was probably 80 percent fat and had no taste whatsoever, salt and pepper couldn't even save it. My fiance had spaghetti with meatballs. The meatballs were pretty good, but the sauce could have been store bought. In fact, I've had better from a grocery store. Honestly the highlight of the meal was the incredible bread. BUT that wasn't the worst part. Ultimately the service we received is what will keep me from ever returning. Our waitress barely spoke to us, yet there was plenty of time for her to stand by the bar and chit chat with coworkers. In fact I had to request red pepper from the owner. Although the icing on the cake was when he came back not two minutes latter to pick up the red pepper THEN ask me if I was finished so he could give it to another table.
