I don't normally review things but I had to in this case. AWFUL customer service. The lady at the front desk berated me several times because I asked how to check my tire size for replacing the tires. It was my first time getting new ones. All we had to do was walk a few feet to check, plus it's their job to be the tire professionals. She then proceeded to angrily yell at a different customer on the phone for the same thing. If you're making big $$$ off of us, you may as well have two seconds of patience. Overall bad communication from her afterward and she was very standoffish and rude to all the customers. Didn't have a time estimate, and I would have liked to just drop off my key after checking in and leave to go back to work. Took 3 hours, and they messed with my camera without telling me. It was like walking into the Confederate South. Go to Metropolitan Garage! They're waaaay nicer, they actually care, and the service is better. They're by appointment, so you won't be stuck waiting during a busy time. read more

Pulled into this place at 3pm in the afternoon, needing a tire repair for my RV. I was in and out in less than an hour - the office staff and repairmen could not have been more helpful. My car needed the tire balanced in a jiffy as it was becoming to much vibration in the steering wheel. I called mid- afternoon, explained my issue and the lovely lady at the front counter, Sweet as pie, was like come on it and we will look at it. Upon arrival everyone was so kind, ready to assist and very helpful. No questions asked, very kind, super fast, reasonable price to get all tires balanced and they even explained thing to me about my tires and my car. Wonderful customer service! I purchased my wheels from american tire and auto. When they told me they couldnt put the wheels on my tire, I took them here! The wheels are a 20x12 with a -44 offset on a 33x12.5 tire. They do a lot of custom work and will help you when needed. They look great and I urge you to take you business here. read more

I needed my tire plugged and after calling around to several shops who told me that I would have to leave my vehicle, Giant Tire told me to bring my vehicle and the will fix the problem. I decided to get some all season tires since the winter is coming and the influx of people will need them and they were able to accommodate all in the same day. I am happy that I came to Giant Tire and will definitely come back if I need anymore tires. Without letting my emotions of the day and my anger with 'another local tire company who tried to tell me I HAD to replace all four tires' get *too much* in the way, let me say this: GIANT TIRE ROCKS and so does the owner, PHIL, and mild-mannered, put my panic to ease like a magician Tire-Guy (don't know official title) JOHN! Seriously. I went to them in a panic after someone else tries to sell me 4 new, then 4 used; tried to tell me I HAD to get all 4 tired replaced. I'm NOT stupid; I trust the experts. I thought they were experts and I'd bought my last two sets of NEW tired from them. However - it's -42*F, it's 4:15pm, the bank account is drained - what do I do? THey pretty much said 'go somewhere else'. So I did! I Called GIANT TIRE from the other place. PHIL answered, listened to my problem and assured me they would help me if I was help-able. JOHN not only helped me but *without slamming the other guy* graciously and in plain English explained to me how the tire business works, how the bigger companies work, how salesmen make their commissions, etc. etc and - like I said - he never bashed or accused the other guys... and I really respect that! He just told me honestly and in straight forward terms what was up with my tires, which ones would last, which one needed to be replaced soon, and which one needed to be replaced NOW. And then he replaced it. He let me stand right there and watch and ask questions. He never got short with me and I ask a lot of questions (I wanna know! I wanna learn something), some kind of stupid questions, but TIRES ARE A SAFETY FEATURE too! I may cut corners but not safety. I WILL ABSOLUTELY BE A GIANT TIRE CUSTOMER FROM HERE ON OUT! And I am loyal like a dog... like I was to the 'other place' until they give me reason not to be. read more

Now I see why this place comes sooooo highly recommended. All of the staff are so wonderful. Hilarious, in fact. I felt well taken care of by everyone I spoke with. They checked out my tire that had a puncture (my brother patched it on the spot and it managed to hold for 9 months and something like 20,000 miles) and rather than try to upsell me a new tire, or even a used tire, they asked if I just wanted it repatched. What? You're not going to try to rob me blind? Win! I also am used to the "you need your tires rotated and this done and this done and this done." Dear other tire places, look at what I'm wearing. Look at my hair. Does it look like I can afford the bells and whistles? I was warned about the tread wearing thin on the 2 rear tires (originals), but the other tech said I'd be fine and just to drive slow and as soon as I could get em replaced, get em replaced (not to take the fact that I was running on basically bald tires lightly). So appreciated. They also offered me a really reasonable price should I decide to get them replaced before I hit the road. I showed up at 12:30 on a Tuesday and was out by 1. The patch will buy me an extra 10,000 miles. Cost me all of $25. With the jovial service combined with that price, why bother going anywhere else? read more

Started out the day giving the folks here a call based upon reviews of this establishment an the reviews of other tire places here in Fairbanks. The woman on the phone was very helpful. I was able to drop in (no appointment necessary) later that afternoon to see what tires they had in stock. Once I saw the tire that I liked, I was told that they could have the tires mounted and balanced in about 30 minutes. I thought that sounded great since again, I had not made an appointment. While waiting, one of the staff offered me some chicken noodle soup that she brought in, and some homemade pineapple upside down cake! Sure enough, in 20 to 30 minutes, my car was done. The shop owner mentioned to me that she thought my car would even ride better than it had because of the new tires. I initially thought that this was a bit far fetched, until I drove away - and sure enough my car rode better. I couldn't get over it! Great product and even better service. I'll be back, and so will several of my friends that I've told. read more

With a name like Giant tire you would think they specialize in big tires. Unfortunately if you have a lifted truck with over sized tires it is too much for them to handle. We took our truck there first in May to have the snow tires removed. We call ahead of time to make sure the shop could handle a job this big. They said no problem we do any tire size, great. We went back in September to have the winter tires put back on. Apparently within a few short months the price has gone up $60 for bad service. Not only did they tell us "this is a job nobody wants" and "I am never doing a f***ing job like this again" they didn't balance the tires. I understand they were busy and we waited patiently. If they didn't want to bother with our big tires they should consider changing then name to Giant tires (just not too giant). read more

When I first came to Fairbanks almost 30 years ago, I didn't know about Giant Tire and did business at American Tire. I put up with the rip off tire prices, mediocre tire inventory, and dealing over the counter with guys who can't manage a smile and are endowed with a 25 word vocabulary, half of which is profanity. I finally found Giant Tire and what a change. Along with a superior inventory of tires at fair prices, they also have a seemingly huge inventory of used rims and reasonably good takeoff tires that they have sold me at very reasonable prices when I have had spare tires stolen. I especially appreciate the very warm, friendly reception I get with the counter help, plenty of hot coffee, and I actually enjoy the wait to have my tires mounted. It is a bit of an extra drive out of town but well worth it. read more

Seriously... old school service you won't even believe.. Got a nail in a tire of our rent a car while on vacation last month. Called the rental car company and they referred us to another tire shop. After being told in a rather gruff way we would have to leave it for the day.. on vacation remember.. I immediately looked on yelp and here is Giant, really close to where I'm at. I call, they pick up 2nd ring, and was told to bring it right in. An hour later and $35 out of pocket ( so cheap) we were on our way. No computers, to be seen anywhere. Got a nail on my front left tire and went to 2 shops in town they all told me that's "unfixable", yes, and quoted me almost $300 to get ONE tire, rotate and balance. I took my tire to Giant which only cost me $30, and half hour later I got it installed on my way home. Nobody in the shop ever tried to persuade me to get a new tire or other serves. I was selling a complete set of winter tires in Great condition I put less then 2k miles while being here for 3 years. I was asking 120 for the set. This Old lady told me 30 dollars for everything. Then she told her coworker 205 is their selling price. (I PCS today so I had to sell) This place is SUPER SHADY. Avoid at ALL COST. The Devil himself is more trustworthy. Called Giant and was greeted by the very polite, Bernie, this began the best service in Fairbanks. All of the employees had great customer service. Then and here is the kicker along with polite, fast service without an appointment, they also had the wheels, tires and sensors in stock ready to go for our 4 Runner! I've bought used tires for my cars my whole life. I do it because its cheaper and somewhat eco-friendly. I've dealt with many used tire dealers all over the country and I have never seen prices like the ones I see at Giant. I got a set of decent used studded tires for my small mercury tracer a couple winters ago, they asked for $300, and one turned out to have a slow leak. This summer I called to get a price on a very average set of summer tires for the same vehicle and they asked for $250! I can get new tires for less than that. They have tons and tons of used tires just baking in the sun. If they could let them go for a reasonable price they would have my business back. 250 for marginal summer tires, no thanks. read more
