Suddenly beginning in October 2024, without any company notification of closure, they stopped responding to my phone calls, texts, and emails for typical service needs. I continued to reach out to this business for many months - even directly calling and leaving messages to the owner's direct cell number, (Martin Gilbert) who has never responded up through May or June 2025! Updated review - Gilbert doesn't fulfill obligations when a permit is required for work to be done according to law. If you have work that needs to be done with a permit, find someone else. The electrician is the only one who can apply for the permit, not the homeowner, but you are on the hook when they do the work without getting the permit first. Make sure you have a permit in hand before you let anyone touch your home. Gilbert refuses to even respond to requests via email, phone or registered mail. Save yourself the headache, time and money. Funny how Mr. Gilbert posts in LinkedIn about not getting paid by a business he did work for, and expects timely payment and fairness. Martin did a fantastic job installing a transfer switch to connect our GoalZero Yeti 3000X battery system to our electrical panel - this allows the Yeti to power devices on up to four circuits during an outage. Martin and Gilbert were excellent in their communications in the lead up to the job and gave advanced warning of when Martin would be coming by (on time). The job went smoothly and there was no disruption to our day-to-day activities. Moreover, the cost seemed very reasonable. From initial inquiry and messaging on Yelp, which was professional, prompt and direct, to the appointment confirmation email + text feature, tracking notification to monitor my technician's journey to my place, arrival and professionalism of Milo + Chris (I think that was his name!) to the post-appointment correspondence and invoicing, I am SO happy I found this company. My dad is my typical handyman for all things, but with COVID, it's been a forcing function to find reliable vendors as he is now out of state living his best life at the beach (ha!) I picked Martin Gilbert and Gilbert Enterprises based on the Yelp Reviews - and I was right to do so! I am a real estate agent and had a buyer under contract on a house. The home inspection turned up some potential HVAC issues and I needed a good HVAC company quickly. Mr. Gilbert came the same day and spent almost 2 hours diagnosing the home's HVAC problems and giving my buyer and me an idea of what the cost would be to replace a furnace, AC unit, and the coils in another furnace. I found Mr. Gilbert to be really thorough and great diagnostician. He explained everything to us in clear terms, and if (when) we did not fully understand, he patiently explained it again until we understood the problems in the system and the different ways to solve them. I will certainly use Gilbert Enterprises again when I need more information on a home's HVAC system for a client. Martin replaced our central air conditioning unit. It was a bit of a tricky job because he had to order a crane to put the outdoor unit on the roof. They brought along two portable AC units to make sure we were comfortable while they were working on it. Initially the unit didn't work correctly--it was a hot July day and the AC couldn't get the temperature down to 72 degrees. It took two follow-up service calls to get it working--eventually he figured out that the intake tube had been crushed and so the unit couldn't get enough air. I'm giving Martin five stars because he worked through the weekend to make sure the issue got resolved. He also let us keep the temporary AC units while he was working on the problem to maximize our comfort. read more

i ordered a new stove and over the range microwave for my mom as a surprise over the holidays. i initially requested an install from Best Buy for just the stove, as the appliances were ordered from there & had arranged for our current electrician to come by the next day to install the microwave. Best Buy came early in the morning to deliver but was ultimately (1) not only unable to install the stove as our former stove was hardwired but also (2) unable to haul away the old appliances. the kitchen was a huge mess. i needed an electrician asap. i wanted my mom's surprise to be perfect -- i didn't want new appliances without an install. i frantically started looking up highly-rated electricians in the area and contacted a few as my electrician wasn't available. Gilbert not only responded so quickly but was willing to come by the same day to provide a consultation. i didn't know if a consultation meant that he could work on it then and there so i was reluctant to have him come by. however, i set up an appointment for him to stop by within the next 2 hours. he called to tell me he was running late (was only 5 minutes, really) and, long story short, he did a quick and thorough assessment of the situation, provided his recommendations/solutions at a *very* reasonable price. prior to Gilbert, i called around a few electricians in the month before to see how much it would cost to install an over the range microwave when there is no outlet in the cabinet above. Gilbert's price was unbeatable and, in retrospect, i am so glad Best Buy couldn't install the stove as I was able to get both the stove and microwave installed at once. Gilbert came and immediately went to home depot to get the supplies and went straight to work. i've been very interested in DIY home projects and all the intricacies & details of a home's interior. i asked a lot of questions while he was working related to A/C, lighting, & etc., and he was more than willing to share his knowledge of his craft. Gilbert finished in about 4 hours - i ended up getting both the stove and microwave installed. SAME. DAY. I must say very fair price. Our bathroom light wasn't working and needed him for a consultation. It was an easy fix and didn't charge me at all. Especially after he drove all the way from DC to Clinton, MD at 7pm. I needed an outside outlet installed and only charged $150, needed a light installed in my downstairs closet and charged $110, then needed a hanging light (approx 13 ft high) and only charged $200. Very nice guy, mild tempered. He even shortened the length on our light to properly hang it, which he didn't have to do. He went above and beyond!!! Definitely recommend! 10/10! read more

My dining room lights went out unexpectedly and I needed an electrician. Not knowing where to turn, I went on to Yelp and put out a request for estimates in my area. Gilbert was one of the companies that got back to me. I chose them since their prices were the most reasonable. They charged me $150 for a consultation whereas other companies that responded started around $200. They were prompt too in their response and able to come within a few days. After 2 weeks and a whole lot of wasted money, there was still a gas smell. This review is overdue, and I apologize for that. These gentlemen were the absolute BEST! They were professional, courteous, and most importantly, extremely reliable! They gave me an honest quote on my a/c, which was leaking onto the carpeted basement floor. Subsequently, there was water backup into the unit, and a bit of mold had set in. These guys showed up, gave me a detailed description and diagnosis. They came back, fixed the unit, along with other issues that were the result of the contractor taking shortcuts. The prices quoted were what I paid - no hidden fees...no "um ma'am, we're gonna have to add..." nope! They did exactly what they said, and were extremely careful to keep the area clean and tidy upon completion of the project. I will not be using any other team than Gilbert Enterprise LLC. This review is mostly about Shenel, but she's the office manager that you have to get through to contact Martin. I emailed about an EV charger installation and Martin sent a quote through Shenel. I emailed Shenel to accept and asked if there was anything else necessary before the appointment. No response. Day of, no one shows up. I call the number and Martin asks if I paid the deposit and filled out the paperwork, neither of which Shenel sent me. Martin comes by to start the project but then has to leave and can't come back that day. So he comes back the next day to finish it and because there's additional wire needed, charges me extra(~15% of the cost). But when he enters it into the system it double charges me. I contact Shenel the next week and she says she'll investigate. She figures out the double charge and says she will refund me. A month later, no refund so I check in again. She says she'll look into it. Two weeks later I try again and she says she'll look into it. Two weeks later I try again and she doesn't even respond. Martin is great, but Shenel essentially stole $150 from me. read more

There was a big temperature difference between the first and second floor and he quickly diagnosed the problem with our first floor vents. His relatively inexpensive solution fixed the issue.
