Our refrigerator's freezer stopped working. So, an Appliance technician was called through my home warranty . The technician came and told me that the fan was not working, but he said that he couldn't get the part, because only sear has the part. So, the home warranty company had to call another Appliance technician, GilTech Appliance. When I talked to Gilbert, he asked for information about the freezer. He said that he would have to review the refrigerator schematic before coming to my house. So, he came to our house and found out quickly what the problem was. He was at my house working on the refrigerator until, I believe, 7pm. Once he fixed the problem, he told me to let the refrigerator run until in the morning to if everything was OK. The refrigerator and the freezer were working fine. He told me to wait a week to see if the refrigerator is still working and if not, he would come back. Seldom I see technicians care that much about their clients. Gilbert is very knowledgeable and knows his stuff. He is very honest and cares how he does his work. Second time working with Gilbert. First time was our gas burner and range hood fan and lights. He fixed the fan but the lights fused out a few weeks later. I was too busy to call and request service again as the 30 day warranty period had passed. So I got 2/3 on that situation because at least the range burner and hood fan kept working. This time, a year or more later, our dishwasher was not working- low water pressure and dishes not washing plus an inch of standing water. I'm not an expert at these things besides just using them- like most other home owners:-) Gilbert came over to take a look while I was out and ended up almost yelling at my nanny about why it was not maintained and since there was water standing at the bottom he did not want to touch it or fix it. He told her to use CLR which I did twice the same night. I called him the next day and more of that obnoxious attitude and he basically told me I was responsible and the warranty would not cover it and so on. Needless to say I called the warranty company and told them I don't want rude people in my home. He may be good at his skill but basic good manners is not too much to ask for in a customer service role. read more

Gilbert performed shoddy work and took shortcuts in fixing our Subzero fridge. It required the replacement of the whole sealed system. Parts were ordered - the compressor, the evaporator and the heat exchanger. When the parts came in, Gilbert tried convincing me that he need to replace only the compressor and not the whole system - Subzero recommends replacement of the full system. I insisted that he replace the whole system. Here's where Gilbert took a shortcut - he did not pull the fridge out and replace the heat exchanger, instead he cut the heat exchanger from the evaporator and installed just the evaporator. Of course, it failed within a few years and I'm paying to have it fixed properly now. Don't trust your subzero to GilTech. read more

My Bosch dishwasher wasn't draining. I went online to Just Answers and they weren't helpful at all. So I called GilTech Appliance. Gilbert showed up and promptly found the problem - a plugged air release valve. Doh! The Just Answer guy said I would have to replace the control panel, but Gilbert said he doesn't like to do that just to make money. In short, I found Gilbert to be skilled, pleasant and trustworthy. My refrigerator died on Memorial Weekend. Talk about poor timing. I had just gone grocery shopping so naturally I was hoping to get it fixed as soon as possible. As you might expect no repair shop was even answering their phone on a Holiday weekend let alone coming out to look at my appliance. I stumbled upon GilTech on Yelp. Not only did he answer the phone but he stopped out on Saturday. He was able to temporarily get the fridge working until the parts came in. He was prompt, knowledgeable and courteous. I had couple issues with my appliances- first was a Thermador oven and second was a Subzero refrigerator and ended up calling Giltech after a little bit research. Gilbert (owner) came on time and fixed the computer board right a way because the display was too dim and it was amazing that he could fix the computer board which another tech was asking for more than $300 for replacing the board and Gilbert fixed it with just half the cost! Money stayed in my pocket :) Subzero had a seal system issue and he replaced all the components and now my fridge works great :) I will diffidently recommend Gilbert to who ever wants a professional service and a reliable individual to work on their appliances. I was introduced to GilTech and Gilbert since he was the assigned contractor for First American Home Warranty. First I was given A&E Appliance (known as Sears Appliance). Suffice it to say they did NOT fix the problem . I called FAHW back, and they dispatch GilTech. Gilbert From GilTech was great. He has since fixed my washer, dryer, refrigerator, and now dishwasher all in the past 6 months (yes, I've had lots of appliance "issues" since purchasing my condo). Our refrigerator stopped cooling on Friday, and after reviewing the manufacturer's authorized service provider's uniformly dismal online ratings, I discovered GilTech. I sent an online request for service on Saturday, when GilTech was noted as being closed, but received a telephone call from Gilbert shortly after posting my request, asking me to describe the problem. On Saturday evening, I texted and asked whether I might be worked into GilTech's schedule for Monday. On Sunday morning, Gilbert called and asked if he could stop by to check the refrigerator on his way to another destination. I expected he might be able to diagnose the problem and schedule a repair during the week. But when he arrived he quickly determined what was wrong (as I understand it, a faulty overload relay was preventing the compressor from running), made the repair, and charged a most reasonable fee. We were struggling with our oven not warming completely to temperature for baking. My husband researched online and ordered a couple different parts to try, but they didn't fix the problem. He called GilTech because on NextDoor.com, I'd read that they are "great for ovens". After a brief conversation with them, my husband learned that there is an igniter at the bottom that we couldn't see and didn't know of. Sure enough, when we ordered and installed that part, it did the trick. Afterward, we called him back and offered to pay him for his over-the-phone help, but he wouldn't accept payment. He saved us a lot of headache, not to mention a service call, and labor costs. His integrity and helpfulness, even over the phone, is commendable. The previous repair company they sent claimed the oven could not be repaired without damaging the cabinets it was installed in. Gilbert ordered the right parts and showed with all the right tools needed to do the job. The job took longer because of the poor quality of work of the previous repair job. Came out on a Saturday to fix our microwave! Very old microwave, so suppliers didn't have the part. Gilbert created a temporary fix that got it working while we wait on parts. Gilbert call before he came. He was there promptly and during the agreed on time. It took dishwasher apart and although the dishwasher would not leak while he was here he cleaned off the built up soap which may be causing the seal to not seal correctly. He told me to use less detergent clean the area where it seals on a regular basis and call him if it leaks again. (The other repair man who was here before him didn't say anything about cleaning or using less detergent) He was here a year ago and fixed my gas stove and he did a great job solving a very complicated problem caused by another repair man. Hands down !!! this guys knows his appliances and fix them FAST lol I had a broken LG dryer and Kitchen aid fridge and I called Gil after checking the reviews and calling couple other companies. I called him on friday and he put me on scheduled for saturday within 2 hours window and he even called me before coming to my place which was nice. Gilbert is a great technician, he is punctual and competent. Let me share the detail of my story here. My built in Thermador Oven stopped heating and I called American Home Shield (insurance company). They send Sears guy the first time and another guy the second time, both didn't do anything: the Sears guy didn't even find the Serial Number and didn't bother to read the owners manual, in which it clearly said where to look. The second guy open the cover, and didn't see the diagram and balked. When Gilbert came in, right on time, he opened the cover, started to testing the board with his multimeter and replaced the capacitors on the board using the soldering tools he brought along, and after that the display came back alive!! However, the oven still not heating so he ordered a new board and came back the second time to replace it, and also correctly diagnosed the mismatch on two of the wires what controls the broil and convection roast functions. Now the oven works as new! He is head and shoulders above other two guys and I highly recommend him for your appliance repair work! read more

Gilbert at Giltech is better informed and more able, than anyone else I called! I looked up what the possible causes would be for the symptoms my oven was displaying. The conclusion was that it needed new computer boards. Corecentric has a service that fixes these computers. Calling several reputable appliance repair shops locally, I inquired if they could take the computer boards out for repair. I could not find one that knew about Corecentric computer repair, never mind taking the unit out of the wall. They just wanted to sell new ovens and relegate this perfectly fine oven to landfill for future generations to deal with. I called Gilbert and he understood right away what the problem was. It was not easy getting the unit out of the wall, but he did. He removed the computers, sent them to get fixed and put them back in and put the oven back in the wall. He rendered amazing service that left all the other lazy repairmen contacted before him, in the dust. Santa Jose is lucky to have a well-informed, hard working repairman like Gilbert. I have been working with Gilbert from GilTech for the last year through my home warranty company. We have been dealing with a host of problems with a built in refrigerator. It probably should have been replaced, but as it is a $10,000 plus unit, the home warranty company has only approved repairs. Initially, they assigned three other companies to diagnose the problem. None were successful and left me without a fridge for 3 months. Finally, Giltech was assigned to my case. Excellent Service and highly recommended. My KitchenAid built-in refrigerator had a problem with sealed system. Insurance company sent Sears service person to fix my refrigerator. After one month and 3 visit from them, they could not fix my refrigerator. Every time they sent a new service person and they misdiagnosed the problem. At the end they said they could not fix it. When Gilbert came to my house, he temporarily fixed my refrigerator on day one (after a month of month of not having my main refrigerator life).
