Mitchell arrived promptly for the scheduled appointment to figure out why our refrigerator was not working. He quickly determined it was the compressor and said he could do the repair but the cost, because it was a linear compressor, would be high enough that we might consider buying a new unit. As the fridge was bought about ten years ago he suggested determining if it were under ten years as it might still be under warranty. After he left I called LG and it is indeed under warranty though we have to pay a fixed cost for labor and any other needed parts. I've used M&R Repair a few times in the past and always had great experiences with them. Today, my AC unit would not provide any cooling. I called M&R and he said he could be out in two hours. Upon his arrival he quickly realized that the unit had no power. He checked the breakers and found that one had tripped. He then was able to power on the unit. While he was here, he tested the refrigerant pressure and temperature and they looked fine. He told me that if my breaker trips again I might need a new compressor. I asked him how much the bill was and he said "No Charge" You are my longtime customer. I reached into my wallet and gave him a wad of cash and said "have a nice dinner". We had a problem with our washer today, on a Friday afternoon. When I called they said they were in my area and could come within 30 minutes! The Tech (I wish I could remember his name?!) was there right on time! Very quickly he diagnosed and fixed the problem (something minor, but it fixed the machine!) and he was done in less than 15 minutes! My service request was to check and repair gas range which recently triggered carbon monoxide alarm. PG&E emergency was called and they recommended calling appliance technician to adjust oven's air flow. So I did call M&R, which was a mistake. Well, to begin with, M&R's technician apparently did not understand the difference between carbon monoxide (CO) and carbon dioxide (CO2). He was claiming that "every oven produces carbon monoxide when working". So we could not have a productive conversation how to repair anything. On top of that he did not have functioning gas sensor. Mitch repaired our dryer and we were happy with the result. When the washing machine quit with error E18 (Blocked or kinked hose or fouled pump), I talked with the Bosch company, and they confirmed that I had taken the correct first step (opening the front port and cleaning inside). When I told them that it had not helped, they told me that the next step was to check the drain hose and see if it is blocked or kinked. We cannot move it, so I called M&R and expected that Mitch would take that obvious step. Instead, he ignored what I told him, got the model number of the machine, did NOTHING, and announced that we needed new parts, which, frankly, I don't really believe since he did not even look at the machine. What parts does he honestly think we need, and why? How could he think so when he didn't even look at the machine? To be continued, I guess. EDIT: I talked with him to ask him those last two questions, and he became upset and canceled the repair. I am wondering if maybe he misunderstood which error code had come up? In any case, we will be finding someone else to look at this washing machine. UPDATE: Meyer Electric sent a certified Bosch-trained technician who found that -- as I had suspected, and had said so to Mitch -- the drain pump was clogged. He cleaned it out and now the washer works perfectly. It did NOT need any new parts. read more
